On Cowherd, Our Site, and the Ombudsman’s Swift Response
Uncategorized April 9th. 2007, 1:58pm
Yo. So by now, you may have heard - ESPN radio host Colin Cowherd knocked us out of the blogosphere Thursday. In an unprovoked attack, the bombastic host screamed, ‘wouldn’t it be great if we could blow up a website?’ and then urged his legions of fans to visit our blog and destroy us. Mission accomplished. We were eviscerated for about 48 hours.
There appeared to be no rhyme or reason behind his malicious attack. This man doesn’t matter, thus we never talk about him. In our yearlong existence, the only time he drifted into our orbit was when he blatantly stole material from the M Zone, a popular blog about Michigan sports, and tried to pass it off as his own. Classy guy, indeed.
We would, however, like to thank Mr. Cowherd for his asinine antics. Just so he doesn’t think he’s Mr. Big Swingin’ Dick, here’s the backstory on our blog: all along, we were doing it on the cheap. We paid a measly sum to have our blog hosted in Romania of all places, where we shared server space with many other blogs. When Cowherd sent his listeners to our site, it crashed the server, which screwed more than just us. The kind Romanians then booted us off their server, and we spent Easter weekend shelling out big bucks so that if Howard Stern, Rush Limbaugh and Dan Patrick mentioned our blog simultaneously on air, we could withstand it. We’ve long needed that swift kick in the pants, so thanks, Colin. We’re back in the States!
Many thanks to the kick ass sports blog community. The support has been overwhelming, and it will not soon be forgotten. Lastly: we’re still not sure if this hit was ordered by ESPN, or this was Cowherd acting like a lone ranger, but either way, the voice of the little people will not be silenced. The media often bows down to big, bad, ESPN, but we will not. We’re going to continue to hold their feet to the fire when necessary. There’s plenty to love about the network, the .com and the magazine, but ESPN gets away with far too much bullying, and should be held accountable.
After the jump, a brief Q&A with ourselves (lame!) that will hopefully answer any outstanding questions:
Q: What’d you do to piss the guy off?
Nothing. One of two things happened - ESPN put him up to this to silence one of its many critics, or Cowherd feels the need to pick on bloggers in hopes of ‘getting people to talk about him.’ But we welcome his listeners. Poke around, stay awhile.
Q: Do you listen to his show?
No. We’ve got Sirius, so that’s where we spend most of our time. The only ESPN radio guy we listen to is Jim Rome, and not all that frequently.
Q: Will you sue?
Readers mentioned this option far more frequently than we imagined. Since what he did was illegal, we may look into it.
Q: Cowherd called your blog a ‘media’ site. Accurate?
We like to think of ourselves - there are three of us - as a sports blog that also plays the role of sports media watchdog. When USA Today unjustly blows an athlete (happens far more often than you think), we’ll call them on it. When ESPN tries to steal another journalist’s scoop, we’ll try to point it out. Also, we
interview media types once or twice a month. If you care to peruse the archives, there’s some interesting stuff in there from Richard Sandomir of the New York Times, Jason Whitlock of the KC Star, Dan LeBatard of the Miami Herald, Mike Freeman of Sportsline.com and many, many others.
Q: Harold Reynolds, Sean Salisbury and Colin Cowherd walk into a bar …
Stay close to your women, avert your eyes from all cell phones, and fortify your websites.
There are 9,461 blogs that referenced this incident, and we’d love to mention them all. But two blogs below did a fantastic job capturing the zeitgeist of sports bloggers everywhere, so be sure to check them out.

Used to listen to Cowherd, thought he was funny. Can’t anymore. He’s a douche. Love thebiglead’s coverage of ESPN and all other media. Keep it up!!!
April 9th, 2007 at 2:25 pm
You people actually read the articles? I am here only for pictures of beautiful women. Good to see you guys back.
April 9th, 2007 at 2:32 pm
i dont listen to cowherd anymore, I watch him on his webcam.
April 9th, 2007 at 2:33 pm
Posted on the other string…think these thoughts need a better audience.
Sorry @Patrick…time to take off the blinders. Thanking Cowheard in this situation would be akin to buying dinner for the man fucking your wife.
As for your bold proclamation regarding the blogosphere’s inability to compete with traditional media…welcome to the future my friend. You are playing witness to the second most monumental shift in the dissemination of information since Johannes Gutenberg’s invention of the printing press. Why is this significant? It’s not too far a stretch to state that independent blogs, for the most part, offer a conflict free platform from which to view any range of topics from sports and media, to politics and religion. There is less of an agenda, no shareholders to represent, and the absence of a bottomline dictating the coverage of topics. Best of all? Blogs are self-policing; meaning that if the content contained within isn’t of very high quality on a consistent basis, the audience will simply stop reading. Try telling me that the big boys in traditional media face this sobering reality (ESPN - no competition; Newspapers - at best you have 1-2 other options in most major markets).
Anyway - I could rant for hours on this topic. A few lingering thoughts. Cowheard’s a douche. ESPN is the 600 lb. gorilla in the room, being outworked and outdone by the more agile blogosphere. Lastly, if you only consume information from traditional media and consider yourself an informed individual, I will laugh you out of the bar.

Welcome back! You guys really should look into some sort of legal equivalent to bending Schrutebag over and ass-f**king him. No lube.
April 9th, 2007 at 2:36 pm
I hope and suspect that Colin Coward will get what’s coming to him. I also am a Sirius subscriber; once in a blue moon all of my presets are at commercial or on songs I don’t like so I end up on ESPN Radio. I find him largely impossible to listen to, apart from his “Spanning the Globe” segment in which he doesn’t do much talking. I think he’s about to get a throat full of karma.
April 9th, 2007 at 2:47 pm
God Bless thebiglead being back, my week has gotten off to a good start already. The Romanian Mafia should totally go after Schrutebag.
April 9th, 2007 at 2:48 pm
you quoted She’s The One, didn’t you? Love that flick.
April 9th, 2007 at 2:51 pm
Although I am by no means an avid sportsblog reader, I have an interesting take on Cowherd’s “attack”. I read a couple of local blogs and deadspin.
First, let me say that I usually listen to Cowherd’s show for part of my noontime commute from work to school (about 20-30 min.); however, almost every day I turn the radio station because I get annoyed with him. I was listening to his show when he launched the attack, and (as per usual) changed the station to listen to some music instead, because he annoyed me (again).
Second, I had never heard of The Big Lead before Cowherd’s attack. Now, after some national coverage, I’ve taken a look at your site. I like it. Heck I’ve even added it to my rss reader.
In the end, you might as well enjoy the 15 minutes of fame that Cowherd threw your way. There is no such thing as bad publicity on the internet. Hopefully, you’ll take the extra traffic from people like me and give us some interesting content.
April 9th, 2007 at 2:54 pm
Like a lot of people I’ve always listened to Schrutebag more for entertainment than actual sports analysis. Now that he’s shown the world what an egotistical, self-centered Bitch he can be, I’m no longer entertained by his ridiculous examples and analogies. I think he’s going to lose a lot of listeners over this. Not that ESPN cares about it’s listeners or anything.
April 9th, 2007 at 2:56 pm
You guys are morons. Colin Cowherd is the man and your stupid site will be silenced long before his site is. I hope that enough individuals continue to overwhelm your insignificant little blog and keep shutting it down. Cowherd simply took steps that should have been taken long ago. Too bad the suits at ESPN and the Ombudsman did not recognize the importance of what he did.
April 9th, 2007 at 2:58 pm
If you try to sue, he’ll blame the officials.
He has the voice of someone who hasn’t had his ass handed to him in a long time.
April 9th, 2007 at 3:02 pm
I’m sorry to hear that it caused you to change servers. Send a bill to an advertiser because my friends and I will be back to check out the blog from now on. Great stuff on this site and I never would have known about it until I listened to The Herd. Keep up the good work!
April 9th, 2007 at 3:04 pm
Until all the bloggers started talking about the asinine attempt to kill your blog, I hadn’t heard of your blog, but now I have, and I will check it out more often.
What an idiot he is, his attempt to kill you will prolly strengthen you in the end. Good luck, I’ll be back to read more.
April 9th, 2007 at 3:06 pm
love how the ombudsman never mentions the illegality of cowherd’s actions. nice one, lady.
cowherd’s show always baffled me. how does an unfunny, not very engaging, arrogant jerk get three hours on the wwlid’s radio network? oh, right, its sports talk radio.
war eric wynalda!
April 9th, 2007 at 3:09 pm
I akin this situation in Rocky 5 when the Don King type guy keeps saying “Touch me and I’ll sue”, and Rocky just ends up clocking him. He’ll get his comeuppance…..for sure.
Thanks for the link…..and if AA is missing any articles/posts feel free to add your article in the comments section (even though you might break our site in the process as well……What are you trying to do TBL?!?!?! Just kidding.)
Good to have you back.
April 9th, 2007 at 3:14 pm
If you claim that ESPN has gotten too big then maybe you should examine why that is. Try lack of competition oh wait, that’s right, ESPN has continually destroyed all their competiton. If you are claiming that a problem exists then maybe the problem is with this blog and all the lame individuals who visit it. After all, if everyone was not tuning in to ESPN in all of its formats then ESPN would not be the be all end all that it is today. Obviously, its legions of fans worldwide do not see things as you poor pathetic fools do. Get a life and realize that ESPN is the best.
April 9th, 2007 at 3:23 pm
Wow, Brett sure has some love for boys from Bristol. It seems unhealthy to me.
April 9th, 2007 at 3:25 pm
Thanks to cc for introducing me to this site. Its all entertainment.
April 9th, 2007 at 3:28 pm
Do us all a favor and go for your optalanalogy* soon, Brett. The booyah era has done nothing but show that it’s the ‘entertainment’ in the “entertainment and sports programming network” that matters to these ass clowns.
Optalanalogy, n. Surgery were the belly button is replaced with a clear plate so the patient can see clearly when they have their head up their ass.
April 9th, 2007 at 3:28 pm
Hey Salisbury…I mean Brett…hi!
April 9th, 2007 at 3:31 pm
I think Brett likes to be told what to do. ESPN makes his life easy by spoon-feeding him everything they deem important. Way to be a mindless follower Brett!
April 9th, 2007 at 3:34 pm
This man deserves a collective blogosphere teabagging.
April 9th, 2007 at 3:39 pm
screw colin blowhard. he’s so bad that the ny espn re-placed his horrible show with mex kellerman. if that’s doesn’t say how bad you are, then i don’t know what will. screw espn radio.
April 9th, 2007 at 3:42 pm
First, great to have you back. I missed you. Second, who the f**k is this Brett guy? Dude seriously? Go away.
April 9th, 2007 at 3:48 pm
Good to have you back TBL!
Now at the very least you can consider yourselves the Crispus Attucks of the Revolutionary War for Sports Media. The ramifications of what happened should be akin to “the shot heard round the world.”
April 9th, 2007 at 3:49 pm
Brett is just a pseudonym for a bitter Mark Shapiro.
April 9th, 2007 at 3:50 pm
And I never thought Cowherd would be good for anything.
Thanks to CC acting like a 4 year old, I have come across your website for the first time. You are now part of my morning read.
I sometimes like to play a game and see if I can listen to Cowherd for more than 5 minutes. I’ve never made past 3.
April 9th, 2007 at 3:54 pm
Welcome back guys.
April 9th, 2007 at 3:57 pm
Rome isn’t an ESPN Radio guy. Yes, he’s on ESPN TV, but not ESPN Radio.
April 9th, 2007 at 3:58 pm
That Colon Coward is little minnow in the big pond known as ESPN. He is about as listenable as that sawed off Tom Likeus and as big a schmuck.. I would suggest sueing him…
April 9th, 2007 at 3:59 pm
Is it possible that espn had a hacker DNS attack the site and CC mentioning on the radio was just a cover? I mean it is more than a coincidence that it was your site that was picked. I think this was premeditated and I am sure many others agree.
April 9th, 2007 at 3:59 pm
Hey Brett…check the internet Nielsens for 2007 so far…ESPN is NOT the most widely read sports site on the web. So, I’d say they haven’t exactly destroyed the competition.
April 9th, 2007 at 4:04 pm
Came here because of the attention created by Cowherd. (Read about it on Duke Basketball Report of all places). I’ll be back. I’m not going back to espn.com though. In the past year I’ve come to believe the E stands for Evil. I’m not even planning to watch SportsCenter for at least 2 months, wish me luck, my kids may revolt.
April 9th, 2007 at 4:11 pm
ha ha ha. i think everyone here is more self-important that necessary. Cowherd is funny sometimes…an idiot a lot of the time…but his schtick works on air and he’s popular. No rocket science involved.
your site is ok, as far as it goes, and under no circumstances would i have found out about it without the controversy. i’ll be checking back.
steve
April 9th, 2007 at 4:12 pm
Let me be about the last person to welcome you guys back - I missed my Big Lead fix badly.
Considering Kornheiser got a suspension from ESPN Radio just for talking a little trash about ESPN suits, you’d think Cowherd would be in line for an unpaid vacation for doing something that appears to be illegal.
April 9th, 2007 at 4:17 pm
ESPN douchefucker Schrutebag, knocked us out of the blogosphere.
Corrected.
Welcome back (again) TBL.
April 9th, 2007 at 4:28 pm
While I ocassionally catch a few minutes of Colin on my 45 minute drive to work in the morning, I had no idea about this mess at all until it was mentioned in Jim Romenesko’s blog this morning. Sadly, though, I live in rural Oregon, so my choices for talk radio (let alone sports talk radio) are pretty limited, so I don’t have a whole lot of choice in the manner. While I think Colin’s a nice enough guy (listened to him when he was in Portland), based on his actions, I might have to change the channel — I just really don’t want listen to Rush Limbaugh if I don’t have to
April 9th, 2007 at 4:30 pm
Oh, go away, Brett. No one asked you about how awesome Schrutebag was in a post about how Schrutebag destroyed a website that did nothing to him.
April 9th, 2007 at 4:54 pm
Wow look at all the dumbass ESPN/Cowherd supporters.
How lame are these people? Do they realize how much they are similar to blind sheep?
April 9th, 2007 at 4:57 pm
It’s pretty obvious that ESPN is on the ropes. The fact that Fox Sports beat them on Internet hits. They buy TrueHoop. The blogosphere is bigger and more compelling than they thought.

you should hire a Romanian lawyer to see ESPN back to the stone age…. or hire Arnie Becker….

you should hire a Romanian lawyer to sue ESPN back to the stone age…. or hire Arnie Becker….
April 9th, 2007 at 4:59 pm
CC is a rotten listen, simply another blowhard in love with the sound of his own voice. If you guys are so inclined, I would love to see you pursue this with legal action. This could be the motherfarking Brown v. Board of Education of the blogsphere.
April 9th, 2007 at 4:59 pm
Hey TBL, Could this lead to an showdown with ESPN and you with Jason Whitlock in your corner! This will be best thing in years!
April 9th, 2007 at 5:01 pm
I need something to listen to at work so it’s usually him or 1050 espn radio, hence the time I sent you guys the confirmation that Quite Frankly was done when he announced it on his show. Well today I just put it on during lunch, and he gave a minute apology, a pretty weak one and he didn’t mention The Big Lead by name but an apology nonetheless. It went something like this:
Last week I pulled a prank on an internet site, it was dumb and I shouldn’t have done it…
Not that heartfelt.
April 9th, 2007 at 5:02 pm
Schrutebag just offered a lame apology on his show. He blows.
April 9th, 2007 at 5:07 pm
Welcome back, TBL! Are you sure the site was only down for 48 hours? Either I am very much hooked on the site, or my math sucks.
Probably both.
Dave
April 9th, 2007 at 5:29 pm
Who knew ESPN had any idea on IT since they can’t even get their fantasy baseball stuff in order…
Good to have you guys back and keep up the good work.
April 9th, 2007 at 5:41 pm
Great to have The Big Lead back. Not so great that Cowherd is still on the air and ESPN hired another tepid Ombudsman.
April 9th, 2007 at 5:43 pm
I used to travel a lot, so I listened to sports radio. The Tony Kornheiser show was really good. Then one day the network pissed him off and they replaced him with Coward (cowherd whatever) I couldn’t stand to listen to this pompous idiot that tried to use sound bites and catch phrases to make up for his lack of broadcasting ability.
In short, Coward sucks and his Attack on that server should not go unpunished.
April 9th, 2007 at 5:47 pm
How much did you pay Cowherd to publicize your site?
April 9th, 2007 at 5:52 pm
Now that’s funny, Dale.
April 9th, 2007 at 6:07 pm
His popularity seems to be due to his overemphasis on college sports and getting on in small markets in college towns.
He has always been a poor substitute for TK.
The less press he is given, the better.
April 9th, 2007 at 6:09 pm
Coward looks like a Who.
Coward steals Rome’s shtick.
Coward steals bloggers’ content.
A desperate act from a desperate act.
Well played guys.
April 9th, 2007 at 6:17 pm
I was listening to his show when he pulled the prank. He’s done it to other sites that are small just for fun. He just asked someone for a random site, and his producer Amanda, was actually on your site looking at stuff and he asked her what site that was….. She told him the name of the site and wasn’t going to go with it because he though t you were bigger than that. He decided to try it anyway, but wasn’t planned out all day that it was your site that he was going to do it to. I myself found it hillarious, but I’m in his demographic so maybe I would. Either way, glad to see your back up and best of luck to you.
April 9th, 2007 at 6:22 pm
I think SM has it RIGHT ON THE MONEY!
“Is it possible that espn had a hacker DNS attack the site and CC mentioning on the radio was just a cover? I mean it is more than a coincidence that it was your site that was picked. I think this was premeditated and I am sure many others agree.”
No way in HELL that douche has enough listeners (who also happen to be surfing the internet while listening?) to shut down your website.
They wouldn’t have attacked you if they believed you were insignificant.
And Brett- what was that you said? I think having Coward’s micro-penis in your mouth might have caused you to mumble a bit.
I haven’t visited ESPN’s website since it turned into the worldwide leader of pop-ups.
April 9th, 2007 at 6:29 pm
I hjave Listened to Colin for 20 months now without hesitation. He is very entertaining and the format for the show is enjoyable. Yes i was one of his faithful pareticipants in flooding your bandwidth, see, i’d been here about two months ago, after doing a search on Whitlock who got fired for doing what i thought was very necessary at ESPN. Put some of these blowhards in their place. I immediately fell in love with you guys, who also put me on to Deadspin and ProFootball talk, and i have been here everyday since then and you all are a dominant presence in my favs. Being familiar with the content here i was immediately curious as to why he chose you guys as a target, but then thought, great, it will give ESPN listeners a chance to experience a great alternative to the biased reportin g evident there, and expose the Hypocrisy of the opiinions of much of them when they brand the NFL et al as ridden with bad eggs while their Campus is rampant with bad judgement.
At the time i thoought it was beneficial to you guys and if any thing would result in a freze of about an hour, nothing as what i’ve learned so far. Since then i’d forgotten about it and did not even visit over the Weekend until Colin offered that hideous apology at the end of his show and left his chair like a pompous, spoiled bully. Then i revisited and am very sorry for having participated and is very dissapointed that Colin did not do better on his apology. It showed me that there was malice in his deed, and he should bre held liable. When these guys make a fortune lambasing athlketes for missteps in a much more stressed environment then turn around and c ompletely whiff in a simple situation, then my trust and loyalty is irreparably damaged. For an individual who preached class and being a grownup, Colin today looks like a little boy, what a jerk!
April 9th, 2007 at 6:30 pm
The WWL always lookin to take down the “little” folks. The revolution will both be televised and documented via blog…
We’ve got your back, TBL.
April 9th, 2007 at 6:30 pm
He finally apologized…in the last five seconds(literally) of his show on Monday, and sounded about as sincere as a runaway freight train.
April 9th, 2007 at 6:30 pm
I turned off ESPN when I decided I didn’t need a TV to be informed of everything NFL. Chris Berman…what does he do exactly other than be Chris Berman?
I turned off ESPN radio when I realized that Mike and Mike are two complete morons and all the programming is comprised of idle-brained loudmouths saying words that, when put together in sentences, have no meaning and are just filler for the next set of commercials.
I will listen to FSR only because they don’t engage in any of the PC big-corporate Disney suckassness that ESPN does and the hosts are actually funny.
Fuck ESPN.
April 9th, 2007 at 6:39 pm
I learned about this incedent on Profootballtalk.com and I think Collin Cowturd was trying to drum up ratings for his lame radio show. This seems like typically bad behavior from an employee of the buyah, back, back, back network(Harold Reynolds, The Peter King(Sean Salsbury), Michael Irvin and the hiring of Dusty Baker). The good news is, he just brought in a group of new readers like myself to your site.
April 9th, 2007 at 6:43 pm
King Kaufman of Salon.com addresses this in his latest column

April 9th, 2007 at 6:52 pm
You must sue. Justice needs to be served, and a lawsuit may be what get this piece of shit off the air if ESPN is angry enough about the bad attention.
April 9th, 2007 at 6:56 pm
little did cowherd know that there would be an equal and opposite reaction to his resistance of thebiglead. think about how many more visitors you’ve attracted from this juvenile act. i had never even heard of thebiglead and guess what, i’ll be visiting alot more often now.
Sometimes people just don’t get it. the media conglomerates certainly don’t get it. you will never silence creativity and logic and reason.
April 9th, 2007 at 7:02 pm
Hopefully not to steer the subject away, but my god, Mike & Mike are terrible. I refuse to believe that actual people can be so tirelessly politically correct without microchips controlling their minds. They were talking for damn near a week about the terms of their NCAA bracket wager. Great Caesar’s ghost, you’re going to wear a dress and sing a song or something completely boring; shut up about it already.
Do we really need the “fake stupid guy” persona? Golic’s an idiot, Golic can’t spell, blah blah blah, now time for his take on deep social issues, and you’d better listen because…?
Sports radio for housewives.
April 9th, 2007 at 7:06 pm
Take them down, what he(they) did is punishable so make them pay.
I just want to know if you got any sort of written or verbal apology personally.
Long live The Big Lead!
April 9th, 2007 at 7:06 pm
Glad to have you back, TBL.
April 9th, 2007 at 7:09 pm
I think the name Schrutebag is o.k. but whynot bring pigvomit back into play, thats a term that is vastly underated. Anyways, the biglead is the first blog that got me hooked on blogs and I am glad you guys are up and running again. It cannot be overlooked what this guy did in not only shutting u down for a hot minute but stealing those questions from the M Zone and not giving credit. Granted I do believe that some assistant came across the M Zone and handed in those questions to Cowherd to score some points and maybe a rimjob but this disgrace of an act needs to be rectified, what can we do?
April 9th, 2007 at 7:19 pm
My attorney Dolores Blasingame is filing a class-action lawsuit against Mr. Colon Coward for impersonating a talk radio host. He will be off the air shortly.
April 9th, 2007 at 7:31 pm
I’m sorry, but I still think he has the best show on radio. Unfortunately I can’t listen all the time, but when I have a chance I always tune him in.
April 9th, 2007 at 7:39 pm
I am in Portland. Cowherd used to be here. When he was here, the format of his show was relaxed and fun. He arrived at ESPN and started this whiny, combative persona. I find it unlistenable. The guy is a college drop-out of Eastern Washington University. His rise is due more to “right place-right time” than talent.
The other day he was talking about how ugly Rachel Ray (cooking host) was. Dude, sorry, but have you looked in the mirror at that banana dick you call a nose? Oh, and feathered hair went out in 1986.
I listen to Adam Corolla, then flip over to sports radio-KFXX in Portland for Jim Rome. Cowherd will never get a second of my ear time.
April 9th, 2007 at 7:39 pm
Andy wrote: “I’m sorry, but I still think he has the best show on radio.”
I would have to agree with you, sir. You ARE sorry.
April 9th, 2007 at 7:41 pm
Actually no I’m not anymore. You guys have to get off yourself!
April 9th, 2007 at 7:43 pm
He’s a total mo-ron. Mo-ron. M-O-R-O-N. There are plenty of internet testimonials to that effect, especially his minutes of HELL in trying to explain his version of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Ick!
April 9th, 2007 at 7:59 pm
It just depends if your in his demographic or not. If your not a 25-39 year old male, he doesn’t really give a crap what you think.
April 9th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
Andy, how long has Colon Coward been your boyfriend? Just wondering…
April 9th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
3-4 Years now I believe.
April 9th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
Are you the real Steve Bozell that sues everybody?
April 9th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
Congratulations, Andy! Are you primarily the pitcher or the catcher?
April 9th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
The Columbus, Ohio area recently had quite a bit of its ESPN radio coverage changed from national to local. Cowherd got pruned by an hour, and Dan Patrick was completely replaced by Chris Spielman and Mike Ricardotti. I was horrified when I first heard the news, but I listened, and I like them better now than I ever liked the national guys.
April 9th, 2007 at 9:19 pm
Cowherd is a jerk and will never change. He has no respect for any of his listeners I listen around him uless he has a guest host sitting in for him, which is quite often as he is as soft as a pile of baby do-do. Some blame on his producer for allowing such conduct. The ESPN suits must have a small application pool for them to allow such a nit-wit on the air.

Okay TBL, mixed bag here, but mainly love. ESPN haters need to know that if it disappeared completley you would all go nuts, all sports fans need ESPN for one reason or another. This is the first blog I ever visited, and the only one I go to regularly (honestly, I was done here before this whole thing) I had a big hand in all of this, and while it was ugly for a minute there, this whole ordeal will have a positive outcome. CC will be punished and will lose listeners, you’ll gain readers and most likely lose none. If you’re smart, you’ll turn this into a shitstorm with a lawsuit and REALLY make a name for yourselves. As for the idea that the WWL called in the code red, please. What would be the point of that? Its not like they could have killed you off forever, so what good would it do for the big cheese to shut you down for two days? Cowshit is an idiot, it doesn’t go further than that. Congrats on the new fame guys, give ‘em hell.

Concur with Jay the Most Hated. There is no vast corporate conspiracy. Having worked for the federal government for the last 12 years, I can tell you there are no vast government conspiracies either. The government is not competent enough to orchestrate a massive conspiracy — neither is ESPN. What I will say is that this whole thing has been only good for you and bad for him. I was a Cowherd listener and never visited sports blogs at all until last week. Consider me reformed!

I’m glad to see you guys are back online. I started reading your blog last month and I absolutley love your blog. I now go to you guys and Deadspin for all of my sports news. Very rarily do I go to ESPN.com.
Hearing about Cowherd doing all of this stuff angered me. I have decided to not listen to Cowherd anymore (I’ll listen to FM radio if I have to, I live in Iowa after all). I also plan on leaving his facebook group (yes he has a facebook group and yes I’m pathetic for having a profile, I’m a college student, cut me a little slack).
I’m glad you guys are back online though and admire your work. If I could give up ESPN I would, however my roommate would kill me. I’m behind you guys and keep up the good work.

oh my god i am so happy that tbl is back. cowherd can kiss my ass. as a small-time sports blogger, i understand the importance of protecting us little guys. who cares if cowherds producer just happened to be on tbl, and cowherd picked them to hit? that doesnt give any credibility to the attack. what if the producer was reading my blog, or any of the other millions of blogs out there? his actions were foolish, and ILLEGAL! harold reynolds was fired for a supposed inapropriate action (hugs = sexual harassment), yet cowherd is still on the air after ILLEGALLY attacking tbl. if you dont get my gist, im emphasizing the word ILLEGAL. this wasnt just a dumb decision, like cowherd said in his “apology.” it was illegal, at the idiot needs to be fired. great job, tbl. good to have you back, and keep fighting for us little guys!

*and the idiot needs to be fired.
sorry bout that

Hey, Andy, how do you know that I’m NOT in his demo?
April 10th, 2007 at 12:39 am
You guys and this site are rediculous. Cowherd was an ass in what he did, but heading straight to name calling and all this utter horse-shit about “we’re just too cool to sue ESPN, despite what all the lawyers are telling us to do.” Please. They could spend more on legal defense in a day than you can generate in a month. Takes a real hero to not want to fight an entire army single handed. Pathetic.

Echoing what has mostly been written previously, I have been a deadspin reader for years now but never really ventured to your site unless linked.
Since the ‘incident’ I have been checking in ridiculously regularly. Congrats on all the new readers, I’m sure you advertisers will appreciate it

After reading the comments from your supporters I would have to say way to go Collin! The best part is when someone wrote and supported his show the next comment was a slam. Just what many complain about and bash both Collin and ESPN. I would have never visited your site if not for the report of the problem on ESPN’s own site. I wanted to see what great insites I was missing. Guess what? None!

ESPN Radio is a joke, but that could be said about most sports radio. However, the TV and Internet presence of ESPN is a great source for sports fans. Quality sports blogs are the perfect complement to that coverage as sources of local expertise, creative analysis, and yes, MSM watchdogging to prevent theft of blog ideas and material.
By the way, here’s an analysis on a Sports Law blog (and no, I’m not pimping my own site, I have no connection to it):

Big lead 1
Final- It’s over.
He got you shut down, however, you guys got free advertising and a lot more listeners out of the deal.

“Can’t we just all get along?” He was just being a silly little boy.

Maybe you guys should get Mr. Cowherd to write one of your blogs and you could become friends. There is just too much hatred in this world right now. Let cooler head prevail and you guys come together for some sort of resolution. Maybe if you will let him right a blog entry he will let you come on his show.
It would be very grown up of everyone to come together to make this better. You can start helping the world to become a better place. It just takes baby steps. I think Mr. Cowherd is sweet sometimes…and I am sure you guys could be too. Let’s just find a happy medium to come together please. Think of the future in this matter.

First thing I thought when I found out was, what luck for TBL. Already an outstanding blog, now more people will know.
April 11th, 2007 at 5:05 pm
Colon Cowturd is perhaps the biggest douche bag on radio today. His show ranks right up there with my dog’s dingleberries. Brett, or should I call you Colon, careful or you maybe get lockjaw from servicing all the wonks at the wwl. I really wish the wwl would bring back Mr. Tony!
Cowturd probably has developed the gag reflex of a blow-up doll, considering how often he kneels in front of Weis and Tressel when he’s not wailing some inane bullshit over the airwaves.
TBL, keep fighting the good fight!

Good to have The Big Lead back. When do we drop the bomb on CC’s radio show?
April 14th, 2007 at 11:17 pm
I’ve never heard Cowherd on the radio for a single second; I’ve only listened to ESPN radio a couple times by accident.
But I heard about the DOS attack on the Curly W Washington Nationals blog. I’ve now put your blog into my bookmark lists.
That small-minded ESPN idiot certainly gained you at least one new subscriber! Someday, someway, Big Media will figure out that independent media are here to stay.
April 14th, 2007 at 11:43 pm
Actually, what Cowheard did was criminal. Orchestrating and DoS attack is illegal.
