Jets, Mangini Fined $125,000 For Not Reporting Favre Injury Last Season
1-liner, NFL September 16th. 2009, 3:45pmInjury Reports Are Important: The NFL fined the Jets $75,000, GM Mike Tannenbaum $25,000 and former coach Eric Mangini $25,000 for not listing Brett Favre’s arm injury last season. He should have been listed as “probable.” Somewhere in the bowels of the Patriots’ offices, Bill Belichick is laughing hysterically. (Plain Dealer)

This is the stupidest fine I’ve ever heard of. Can someone explain why this is the biggest of deals? This is going to sound dumb, but this coudn’t have anything to do with insurance reasons or anything like that, liability wise. I don’t know. I’m dumb and just dont understand.

wagering. This is all about wagering. That’s the #1 reason those injury reports have to be accurate.

I don’t want the wrath of jpq to fall upon me, but what the fuck? It’s 4 p.m. and still no college football? Hell, I’d take a Michigan-ND redux post. Who fucking cares if Mangina was fined? How does it affect anything?

It’s the NFL’s stupid ass effort to keep gambling from influencing the outcomes of games. I’m not making that up. Florio has like a dozen stories a week, and brings it up every time. Also, this headline is a bit misleading. I initially thought they each got popped for $125k.
September 16th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
and yet the NFL also doesn’t condone gambling.
/playin new game on my phone, bored at work, partially distracted.

you need to practice your threadjacking. At any time, you can steal any post and bend it to your purpose, if your will is strong enough. You may have to talk to air for a while, but the CFB guys will show up.
Earlier, I got to play “nemesis” for like 30 minutes, because I wanted to.
September 16th, 2009 at 3:56 pm
So whay not list every single person on the entire team as probable every week? That way you cover all of your bases and never get fined.
September 16th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
The great hypocricy of the NFL.
@Dirt: The Nemesis convo was a nice change of pace. If only Paolo could have been there to ruin it like he ruins everything else.

There isn’t dick going on in college football. Wednesdays are the worst day during football season in either league. Unless Ocho, TO or Favre takes a picture of their dick or something, you can get practice reports.
That’s about it. Believe me, I’ve been looking all day.

*Laughing maniacally*
Seriously if the NFL were serious about this issue, why didnt this come up last year, when everyone in the media was talking about Brett’s injured shoulder? Its like they didnt care until someone(Brett) said it out loud.
September 16th, 2009 at 3:59 pm
Breaking:
I am probable for work tomorrow. Shit, I don’t know what is going to happen.
September 16th, 2009 at 3:59 pm
Totally agree Mags. I’ve had enough of each version of Hoodie Lite at this point. They need to be their own person/coach. Stop fucking around and do your job.

I think TBL could do some game previews instead of posts on Mangina and Co. There are so many good games this weekend. Not the marquee games like USC-OSU, but very good games nonetheless. You’re right about Wed’s though, they suck balls during football season.

That’s why we need the NHL back Gods. So people like fetch and I can have something to talk about during the slow days.

im doubtful for work tomorrow with a bong.

I really enjoyed watching the playoffs last year and I could care less about hockey, but I could not get into full season. I’m sure people feel the same way about the NBA.

Why would it be about gambling? What the hell does the NFL care if gamblers don’t actually know who is injured? How many people have not wagered on a Patriots game because it’s possible Tom Brady broke his hand but the Patriots didn’t report it? And I also doubt the NFL cares if Vegas makes money or not. I’m not saying the NFL isn’t completely hypocritical in regards to Vegas and gambling and its importance to the popularity of the NFL, but I just don’t see much of a connection with the NFL demanding accurate injury reports for the sake of Vegas line makers and prospective NFL gamblers. People will bet on the games regardless, and on top of it, it leads to “Inside info” from gambling tip websites on who is injured and who isn’t, further fueling the NFL gambling fire. I just don’t see the connection.
September 16th, 2009 at 4:15 pm
the only probable on mangini’s new team is brady quinn. probably gay
September 16th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
Keep that single-game wagering out of Delaware Commissioner Goodell! You’re fighting the good fight! Just make sure Vegas knows how to properly handicap the games.
September 16th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
wasn’t brady on the injury for a couple years?
September 16th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
injury report that is.
September 16th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
Go read Pro Football Talk. Go right now. I’d wager almost anything that Florio’s got a story up today about the injury report, and he mentions why it needs to be accurate. It’s so that all injury information gets disclosed publicly, and underworld types can’t pay off team employees for inside information. But, still. Go read PFT.
September 16th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
Yup. He was “probable” every week. The Hoodie must have had a laugh with that.
September 16th, 2009 at 4:23 pm
That “so underworld types can’t pay off team employees” makes more sense, but I wouldn’t call that a hypocritical gambling connection between the NFL and Vegas. That’s just being smart.
As for reading PFT, I just can’t bring myself to do it. Mike Florio annoys the piss out of me.
September 16th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
No need to ignore. You said sport in your first sentence not game.
September 16th, 2009 at 4:26 pm
Agreed on the hypocritical part. Their hypocrisy in regards to gambling manifests itself elsewhere.
September 16th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
PFT is fucking awesome
