Turn Back the Clock Thursday: Allen Iverson’s Bowling Alley Rumble
1-liner, Courts, Legal, Fighting, NBA September 17th. 2009, 12:00pmSI Vault and Allen Iverson, 16 Years Ago: “‘You ain’t gonna do nothin’ to me,’ Iverson says he responded, his nose an inch from Forrest’s. Then, according to Iverson and his friends, Forrest swung a chair at him and set off a melee in which chairs, fists and slurs flew like bowling pins. Several of Iverson’s pals waded in and overwhelmed the whites. Another bunch of whites, who didn’t know either group and didn’t want to, was caught up; two people were knocked unconscious, one of them a 23-year-old college student, Barbara Steele, who was struck by a chair and would receive six stitches near her left eye.’” [SI Vault]

SI vault really is fantastic. sometimes it makes me sad to see how well written it used to be, and now peter king is their bigtime guy.

Ahh memories–right after his sentencing, two of my co-workers stormed out the office and headed to the court house to protest. It was a pretty intense time.

the punishment did seem pretty extreme for a fight at a bowling alley

I find the term “the whites” rather odd.

no matter how many of these are posted, I’m not taking the bait. It’s 2009, let’s move on.

Granted clemency by Doug Wilder and then a scholarship by John Thompson. Shows what a wicked crossover and a jumpshot can do for you.
AI is probably one of the best athletes of this generation. Guy was a star qb in high school and Vick was compared to AI when he was coming out of high school. However, he was/is such a selfish player that you could not build a perennial contender around him.

AI is one of the greatest athletes to ever come out of that Hampton Roads/Tidewater area; and that is saying something.
