ESPN Continues to Scare Local Markets: Here Comes ESPNDallas.com
1-liner, ESPN, Media Gossip/Musings September 24th. 2009, 12:30pmESPN: Here’s an anonymous quote. Can you detect the fear? “Look around at the existing local Web sites. We knew that once we spent money on our site, we’d beat [local newspapers and radio stations]. But now that ESPN is looking at my market, things are different. ESPN does sports so well that if they come in and dominate, we might not get that audience back. We have to control the local audience.” Oh, and ESPNDallas.com goes live on Monday. Guess what else happens Monday? The Cowboys play on Monday Night Football. ESPN knows cross-promotion. [Sports Business Journal, Dallas Business Journal]

If a market can prove to be profitable, they’ll keep going until they find the break even point.

Haha with all of the religion talk earlier, now there’s an ad for a free bible from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on the top right. Too funny.
