What About Mitch?
1-liner, College Football September 22nd. 2009, 6:00pmWhat About Mitch?: TJ Simers asks the penetrating question that Trojan fans have been wondering since the 16-13 loss to Washington: Should Arkansas transfer Mitch Mustain start this week if Matt Barkley’s should is still a problem? (Answer: Yes. Aaron Corp was that bad.) At some point, Mustain may become a trivial pursuit question – who is the winningest NCAA quarterback without a loss in his career? It might just be Mustain, who was 9-0 at Arkansas but hasn’t sniffed the field for the Trojans. Shame on USC for going to Mustain and specifically telling him not to talk to Simers. [LA Times]

Does Mustain’s # on the USC depth chart speak more to Arkansas’ program or USC’s?…

Why the hell did Mustain transfer to USC? Why not go somewhere you can play?

I think it’s more on Mustain than the two programs.
Remember, Mustain was a top recruit at one point, so everyone, USC included, was after him. He just hasn’t grasped the USC playbook or is too reckless or whatever.

I don’t remember the full story, but the long and short of it I believe is that his mother convinced him too because she didn’t like one or more of the Arkansas coaches.

maybe someone should try to interview the mother.

You could also argue that she possibly makes him millions more than if he started. If he’s a successful starting QB for USC he probably gets drafted by a horrible franchise and is forced to play before he’s ready. If he doesn’t perform as a starter, he’s out of the league before his rookie contract expires.
By being in USC’s system, he’ll still get his shot at the NFL and won’t have to be the franchise savior. If he proves he can stick in the league, he’ll stick (see: Matt Cassell, A.J. Feeley).
