Bart Scott vs. Reggie Bush: Three Years Later
NFL September 29th. 2009, 4:00pm
The 3-0 Jets visiting the 3-0 Saints highlights week 4 in the NFL. And at some point, the media will remember what happened the last time new Jets LB Bart Scott met then-Saints rookie Reggie Bush. Guess who came out on top in that one?
Oct. 29, 2006. The Ravens led the Saints in New Awlins in the 4th quarter. Scott tackled Reggie Bush and there may have been some extracurricular activity while the two were on the ground. Bush stayed down. Then, he limped off the field. Scott said afterward:
“The media darling, aka the golden boy of the NFL, tried to take a cheap shot at me, so I told him I was going to put some extra on it,” Scott told the [Baltimore] Sun. “He can do all those shakes he wants, but I wasn’t going anywhere. I put a little hot sauce on that ankle.”
Sadly, we cannot find video of this anywhere online. [Lil' help, ESPN?] Fortunately, there are more Scott quotes from that afternoon.
“He’s just a guy, simple as that,” Ravens outside linebacker Bart Scott said of Bush. “What did he get this week? He played like a kid who got chased from school.”
Our concerns for the game:
1) The Jets anemic rushing game. We tried to explain after week one that it looked sluggish, and nothing has changed. The Jets are 22nd in the league at 3.8 ypc. Rookie Shonn Greene was thought to be an option; that doesn’t appear to be the case right now whether he’s healthy or not. Just a guess, but fan favorite David Danny Woodhead, perhaps the team’s fastest player, might get a touch or two on the turf in the Dome.
2) Injuries at cornerback. Going into a road game against the best passing offense in the league without two CBs has disaster written all over it. If CBs Lito Sheppard (quad) and Donald Strickland (ankle) aren’t 100 percent, Brees could easily throw for 400 yards and half a dozen scores, regardless of the blitz packages Ryan conjures up.
3) What if the Saints defense is like, good? Tied for the league lead with seven interceptions (QB’s faced: Stafford, Kolb, Edwards) and 5th against the rush. Are these lofty stats based on inferior competition, or could Sean Payton finally have found a defensive coach in Gregg Williams? If that name sounds familiar … he’s the guy who interviewed four times with Daniel Snyder before the job eventually went to Jim Zorn.
(And no, the Saints improved running game is not to be feared – by the Jets, at least. By all means, keep talking about the Super Bowl, though. Especially this week.)

September 29th, 2009 at 4:08 pm
Seriously. Maybe the guy was a d-bag, maybe he was just an idiot. But how this guy didn’t get the job and Zorn did was inexplicable then and whatever word is more serious then inexplicable now.

His scrap has been considered by Jets Fans to be even be Ecksteinian.

he’s nearly as scrappy as wayne chrebet.
if bart scott was any good, boosters would’ve bought him a house when he was in college and his school would’ve escaped scandal free, like reggie.

(WR’s faced: Megatron, DeSean Jackson, T.O.)
The Saints defense is definitely better. How good? I have no idea.

will smith looked pretty good

That was 3 years ago. Reggie Bush is even an afterthought in New Orleans now. He’s the team’s 3rd most productive RB.
Tell-tale sign: The media has finally stopped calling them “Reggie Bush and the Saints” and is now calling them “Drew Brees and the Saints.”

WHOSE RESPONSIBLE THIS!?!?
No seriously. Is he hurt or something? Will Leon Washington have that much more value for me this week?
September 29th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
irish,
i agree 100%. dude talks non-stop, and his performance never lived up to his mouth. and he admitted in that quote to intentionally hurting someone. not a clean-hit with vicious intent, which is what good football involves, but just trying to hurt a guy. what a scumbag.
September 29th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
THE media.
god, weren’t you paying attention? fuck.
September 29th, 2009 at 4:18 pm

My prediction for this weekend. Matt Sanchez meets Darrin Sharper for a pick 6.

who cares about the WRs if you have crap QBs throwing to them?
September 29th, 2009 at 4:42 pm
Bart Scott is a hitting machine. Dont know if he’s an elite LB at his position, but he’s certainly a guy i’d want to have. runs his mouth. backs it up. delivers punishing hits.
the way he leveled big ben here, im surprised you guys didnt want to put up a statue in his honor

Jets suck.
September 29th, 2009 at 4:59 pm
God damn it. FUCK YOU MANGINI.
Enjoy, Spence.

Lynell Hamilton > Reggie Bush
September 29th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
Saints need to have home field advantage to get to the Super Bowl. Don’t think they can go through the Meadowlands in January. If the Jets and Ravens both win this weekend you have a changing of the guard in the AFC.
TBL-Don’t talk shit about Kim. She is one fine (large) piece of ass.
September 29th, 2009 at 5:08 pm
Saints 38
Jets 17
Reggie 1 TD
Geaux Saints!
49ers bounce back from loss to the Vikes to beat the Rams.
September 29th, 2009 at 5:27 pm
Lynell Hamilton > Reggie Bush
George Hamilton > Reggie Bush

@TBL: Yeah, way to link to the non-sports specific, local flare columnist on that Super Bowl story.
who cares about the WRs if you have crap QBs throwing to them?
So I suppose if TO, Megatron, or DeSean Jackson had scored (or in DeSean’s case scored twice) that you wouldn’t be bringing it up since those quarterbacks are crap, as you put it?
Here’s the funny thing, TBL: while Bart Scott is looking to “put a little sauce on it” again when Reggie gets split out, the real action will likely be across the field with Colston. Or down field with Devery Henderson. Or over the middle with Jeremy Shockey. Or maybe it’ll be Pierre Thomas in the backfield. Or Mike Bell. Or Lynell Hamilton.
The Jets can’t possibly account for everybody.
