Nice-Guy Eric Wedge Has Been Canned. Who’s Getting the Job?
1-liner, Baseball October 1st. 2009, 4:45pmCleveland Indians: After seven years managing the Tribe, Eric Wedge was fired yesterday. In 2007 the Indians led the ALCS 3-1 and then were pounded in three straight by Boston. It was Wedge’s only postseason trip. The folks in Ohio seemed to like him. Names that are being mentioned to fill the opening: Tony Pena (formerly of the Royals, now with the Yankees), John Farrell (with Boston), Mike Hargrove, Bob Brenly and Clint Hurdle. Farrell would be the best replacement. Wedge was not a bad manager.
Beadle and Marcellus are about to have wild, crazy, rampant sex.

Wedge was a great manager in AAA Buffalo. He took the favored Bisons to the playoffs every year and lost each time

This is not a true statement. You have not reviewed his line-up cards or watched much of his in-game decisions. He should have been fired the day he decided that Ryan Garko should play in the outfield, or decided that it was more important to keep Ramon Vazquez that required the Indians make a hasty trade of Brandon Phillips.
His transgressions against sound managerial decisions are too long and painful to list.

Again, Eric Wedge did not assemble that pitching staff. Their #3 starter going into the season was Carl F-ing Pavano! Managers really don’t affect things that greatly. Have to question Shapiro.

This is true. I think he has some very damaging footage of the Dolans if he keeps his job, and it looks like he will.

Pavano had a pretty good year, Duffy

person who got rid of both CC and Cliff Lee should have been fired.

If the Indians can get rid of ownership, I’m on board. Browns too!

Wow, outside of John Farrell, the only names missing from the list are George Karl and Del Harris.

I hate when you accidentally roll over an ad and it takes up 97 percent of your screen and it won’t go away.

Is anyone having refresh problems? For the last two days, the website won’t refresh for me for hours at a time. Both at home and at work.

Bert Blyleven was sticking up for Wedge the other day during the Twins broadcast, saying he didn’t deserve to be fired. This confirms that Wedge deserved to get the axe.

Tony Pena is the man for the job
