The world of college sports – it’s fantastic! Everybody loves the Gestapo NCAA. Even we do. Four bizarre stories from the land of college sports this today:

Pregnancy Jeopardizes Some Scholarships: Wonder how the red-staters will feel about this – college females on scholarship are increasingly getting abortions out of fear of losing their scholarship. Aren’t you excited about seeing the conservatives slug it out with the NCAA? That will be one you don’t want to miss. Outstanding work once again by Bob Ley at the Outside the Lines team.

Gay Lacrosse Coach Fired at Missouri: How is this a story? Of note: by all accounts, the lax team at Missouri is a club sport, yet this story was picked up by the Associated Press. Weird. Anyway, Kyle Hawkins had a winning record for eight straight seasons, came out of the closet, had a losing season, and was fired. Cue the Doc Rivers jokes.

Recruit Passes on Virginia Tech: Augustus Gilchrist, a prized college basketball recruit, has decide to pass on Virginia Tech due to the shootings that took place on campus last month. Instead, he’s going to attend prep school for a year and most likely open up his recruitment. Dick. Anyone else think this douche should be booed in every arena he enters as a freshman? Next, Gilchrist’s parents will use the google function, and eliminate any school in which basketball coaches were accused of violating recruiting rules, or where players were arrested. And he’ll end up going … nowhere. Instead, he’ll put his name in the NBA draft and wind up at a Foot Locker near you in June 2008.

Georgia Golf Coach Showed His Team Paris Hilton Sex Tape: Last week, Todd McCorkle resigned his post as the University of Georgia women’s golf coach to help his wife and her struggling LPGA career. Of course that wasn’t real the reason – he was verbally and sexually harassing his players. Not sure if showing the players the Paris Hilton sex tape on his computer is construed as ‘harassing,’ but it’s probably not something his wife is proud of. Surprisingly, the Bulldogs are ranked third in the nation.
