Occasionally, we’ll collect a huge mess of media droppings, and clump them into one gigantic post. Who is the man on the horse, you ask? Dan Steinberg of Blog Show DC Sports bog fame. He’s so big-time that he’s now mounting horses, and getting photographed while doing it.

* Suspended to the unemployment line: Remember Ron Borges? He’s now a former writer at the Boston Globe after announcing his departure. Prior to his departure, he had been suspended from the paper for two months. Perhaps you recall the reason for his suspension - Cold Hard Football Facts, a blog, caught the 24-year-veteran plagiarizing. Naturally, there was no mention of that in the press release. Boston Sports Media has every salient detail you could ask for.

* Fraud? The Freep Wants You!: Ten months ago, Perry Farrell, a former Pistons beat writer, was fired from the Detroit Free Press for the questionable use of some quotes (long story short: he allegedly stole them from a website). Was the punishment too harsh, considering another writer at the paper, Mitch Albom, had previously fabricated a story? Yes! Farrell is getting his job back, plus the 10 months back pay. Wow. Little-known fact: Farrell is a bowling enthusiast; so much so that if you drop his name at any bowling alley in the state, you should be good for at least a free pair of shoes.

* Bloggers Breaking Ground: This is nice to see. AOL Sports [Full disclosure: we blog about the NBA for them] is slowly but surely turning bloggers into columnists, and giving them the frontpage treatment. Bethlehem Shoals is writing about the NBA, and MJD is doing a Daily Debriefing. Both are getting major play at AOL Sports, which makes you wonder … at what point will Fox, Sportsline, and Yahoo follow-suit and scoop up bloggers and their followings? (Oh! Oh! Buy The Big Lead! If not, we’re going to Plan B sell the damn blog on eBay.)

* Columnist Needs Help!: We get some awfully random emails, and someone saw this on some kind of web listserv, and passed it along to us: ‘I am seeking the opinions of experts in public relations as to what Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig should do regarding Barry Bonds breaking the all-time home run record. Should he attend the historic game? Should he stay away? Should he celebrate the moment or scorn it? Contact: Rich Hofmann, hofmanr@phillynews.com.€ If you know a good PR flack, send them Rich’s email!
