The People Scheduling The MLB Playoffs Are Idiots (Phils-Rocks Postponed)
Baseball October 10th. 2009, 12:35pm
Game 3 of the Phillies-Rockies series has been postponed due to inclement weather. Apparently, scheduling baseball games in Denver, Colorado in October isn’t a great idea. Then again, when you’re playing the World Series in New York in November, you could also see some bad weather.
The game has been moved to Sunday night at 8:07 in the Mountain Time Zone. That’s 10 o’clock on the East coast. On a Sunday. Are you shitting me? There’s no way the game ends before 1AM.
Meanwhile, there’s no day baseball today.
None.
It’s the first Saturday of the playoffs and there is 1 game being played. (6pm) Why would Major League Baseball schedule games during the middle of the day on Thursday and Friday while people are working and nothing during the day on Saturday? How does this make sense?
The Sox and Angels play at noon tomorrow, then Yankees-Twins are scheduled for 7pm. Why would Colorado-Philly play at 10PM? Why not 1pm Mountain? Is this not one of the dumbest things you’ve ever heard of? How many more unanswerable questions will this dumbassery make me ask?
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to get back to… Auburn-Arkansas. Right. Ooh! UConn-Pittsburgh is on at 3:30. No wonder they didn’t schedule any baseball when people are actually home.

Phil Mushnick just ate one of his 37 remote controls.
October 10th, 2009 at 12:43 pm
huge win for the phillies. do they even need to start pedro anymore?
colts-titans on NBC … what’s the guess on the rating against phillies/rockies?
4x more for NFL?
5x?
October 10th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
Some Yankees fan in this country might be inconvenienced. Can’t have that……
October 10th, 2009 at 12:46 pm
TBL - nice new “writers roll” over the right. Looks good! When do you come out with the m.thebiglead.com for us mobile users?
October 10th, 2009 at 12:46 pm
That really is fucking horrible.
October 10th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
we get titans for a mnf game. With 2 shitty teams playing im sure the wnba finals will get a higher rating
i wonder if that game gets flexed
October 10th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
Probably not, but conversations I can’t see Charlie “Lidge is my closer” Manuel having include “Hey Pedro, you know you were are last resort, right? This snow has really saved my ass. I’m gonna start Blanton.”
October 10th, 2009 at 12:50 pm
My guess is that if LA finishes off St. Louis today, Philly game gets moved to afternoon time slot. Wouldn’t you guys agree? Or does that make too much sense?
October 10th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
Because Cardinals/Dodgers is playing then.
I agree with your overall post though. MLB is retarded. I was enjoying last night when Yankees/Twins went long and the Red Sox were put on TNT and I could just switch back and forth. They actually used to stagger the starts and use TNT like that, it was so much better and games dont have to start at 10 PM on a weeknight.
October 10th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
I would guess Pedro starts tomorrow still. Then Lee and Hamels for the other 2. I don’t think they move Lee up to pitch on short rest tomorrow night now.
October 10th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
What Riggs said. I have to believe they would be smart enough to do that.
October 10th, 2009 at 12:53 pm
Why Pedro over Happ anyway? JA Happ has been deadly this year!
October 10th, 2009 at 12:53 pm
Exactly, they’re doing it like the NBA now, no more staggered starts. Kind of annoying.
October 10th, 2009 at 12:54 pm
This is like if I spent time wondering how I would tell my girlfriend should I cheat on her with Tiffani Amber Thiessen. A purely hypothetical scenario with no chance of playing out in the real world.
October 10th, 2009 at 12:55 pm
They pitched Happ and Blanton (inexplicably) in game two. Plus Blanton has been a far, far better than Happ (and the underlying skills are better).
October 10th, 2009 at 12:55 pm
Baseball teams should all do 8 day-night doubleheaders a year, 4 home, 4 road, 2x a month May-AUG, reduces the season by 8 days. Thank you.
October 10th, 2009 at 12:56 pm
Happ they know can pitch out of the bullpen, but, with Pedro, I don’t think they know how that would go.
October 10th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
Cowherd is that you? I gave up listening to that fuck when after my beloved White Sox won the World Series in 2005 he spent most of his next show simply talking about the ratings…if you don’t like baseball just don’t discuss it, we get it, people like football more
October 10th, 2009 at 1:01 pm
They should reduce the MLB season to 24 games (only play 2 games every week - Saturday / Sunday) would make each game so much more meaningful and intense. A loss would be HUGE and the crowd would be so into it. Small market teams like Pirates and Royals would have legitimate shots of contending especially with a guy like Grienke. You’d always have 1 vs 1 pitching matchups, etc. I’ve always thought how baseball could make their season more exciting, and this is the only thing I can come up with.
October 10th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
You want MLB to give up tens of millions of dollars in revenue while also making every season primarily about luck? Baseball isn’t football, the better team (even if it’s significantly better) only wins about 6 out of 10 times. SAnd of course records would be gone. But at least football fans would be happy.
October 10th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
Yea.. I realize it’s very very impossible for all sorts of reasons. But seriously… does any other sport play a 162 game season?
October 10th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
I wish there was a baseball game one right now…this is the worst collection of early college games I can remember (had hopes for Auburn-Arkansas but the quarterback Rich Rod didn’t want is doing work again and killing the Tigers)

Since The Ultimate Fighter on Spike did better than EVERY MLB playoff game, I’d say football will win by just a tad…or two
October 10th, 2009 at 1:20 pm
one of the best games ever is on mlb network
October 10th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
also he got nailed by a ball in game 2

It’s a shame the young people and JPQ don’t have the patience for such a beautiful sport as baseball anymore.

UECKER IN THE BOOTH!
Also weird to see Mo Vaughn somewhere that isn’t the DL
October 10th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
canseco flied out last inning. kennedys mustache was more full back then
October 10th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
I remember a deli in Manhattan gave him his own sandwich. It was, like, a foot tall pastrami on rye with pickles. Then a week later he went on the DL, never to be heard from again. Good piece on him on Real Sports, though.
October 10th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
one hit? thats all we got one god damn hit?
October 10th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
He still doing work with buying up housing developments and turning them into top shelf low income places? Pretty cool thing he’s doing (and he’s making money at it, not all charity has to be completely selfless)
October 10th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
saw him downtown like a month ago. guess he just moved here and is opening a business.
October 10th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
where are you, Duder?
October 10th, 2009 at 1:32 pm
that was in cleveland. think hes opening a couple restaurants
October 10th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
Good stuff here, CRM.
It wouldn’t surprise me if you disappeared, 1984-style, though. This is hatespeak and I’d guess Bud Selig has his boys on the way.
October 10th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
Rich Rodriguez really didn’t think he could create an offense that Ryan Mallet could run? Would it cause TBL to have a stroke if I suggested that he’s better than Jimmy Clausen?
October 10th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
boys = Thought Police. Damnit, hit enter too soon and ruined by half-assed joke.
October 10th, 2009 at 1:35 pm

Who didn’t have Matt Stairs…he’s an MLB team slut
October 10th, 2009 at 1:42 pm
@TBL - A very tragic story. At that age, too, how many happy years do they have left?
This is an honest question. What are they doing together the night before the wedding? I thought that was an unwritten no-no?

For what its worth … I hate mobile sites. 90 percent of what I read on this site is from my blackberry. I hate when I have to use a mobile site. I can never get what I want, like that ABC link wouldn’t take me to the story. Just my opinion though.

October 10th, 2009 at 1:43 pm

Speaking of phones, does anyone use T9 on text? I just tried to type “queers” in reference to Illinois football and “steers” came up. Oh, the irony.

too depressing to put in the roundup
at least once a week you put something that depressing or worse into the roundup. Usually worse.
