Peyton Manning Takes a Shot at Joe Buck
1-liner, Media Gossip/Musings, NFL October 12th. 2009, 11:15amPeyton Manning vs. Joe Buck: Last night in a taped segment for the NBC Sunday Night pregame show, Peyton Manning was telling a story about watching his brother, Eli, on TV. In the middle of the story, Peyton made a curious remark about Fox announcer Joe Buck: “… of course, Joe Buck’s just ripping Eli, just cause that [is] what he seems to enjoy doing … just call the play-by-play Joe, let Aikman do the commentary.” Bob Costas was laughing, and Manning laughed a bit at the end, too, but it didn’t appear to be a ‘ha ha, just kidding’ laugh. More of a, ‘ha, ha, it’s funny because it’s true, dick’ laugh. [UPDATE: A reader has found video of the quotes. Around the 10:20 mark here.]

There has to be a video of this somewhere.

Joe Buck wishes he was as good as his father.

That was a good interview. I especially liked how complimentary he was of Marshall Faulk, deflecting praise from himself.
The Buck dig was just awesome.

tbl loves to post articles re: joe buck and on each and everyone i usually feel the need to talk about what an absolute cockmouth he is. However, on this one im going to let him go.

I saw this interview, and aside from the Joe Buck comment, I was mesmerized by the amount of facial plastic surgery Robert Quinlan Costas has had… His eyebrows are permanently arched in semi-circles. With his strectchy-face, nothing out of his mouth would suprise me…

who is Peyton’s favorite announcer? Suckingcock Dotcom.

You’d think a guy who looks that boyish would want the wrinkles, to age him up a little bit. But between him and that stupid guy who does the Kentucky Derby, there’s no end to the eye work NBC will cover in their health plan.
Peyton Manning has been steadily sitting at the top of my favorite current NFL player for about 6 seasons. He’s so much fun to watch. If you think differently, you are most likely an asshole, or a Patriots fan, which is redundant.

wish i had seen the interview. peyton rules, even if he is a tool.
October 12th, 2009 at 11:32 am
no video?
October 12th, 2009 at 11:32 am
Buck is right, though. Eli is shit.
But Peyton was definitely not joking.

That was a pretty good interview. I sometimes forget how candid Peyton Manning is. The Buck dig was pretty good. I didn’t think Peyton was serious, though. Regardless, Buck is a smug, self-loving prick.
I’d guess you guys could probably find it at the Sunday Night Football in America Website. I really don’t feel like looking.
Also, Eli is not shit. Agreed, sparty.

From time to time, TBL turns into Mike Greenberg and tries to make something out of nothing. This would be one of those times.
October 12th, 2009 at 11:39 am
Would love to see video of this interview.
I’d like to know the context of the story, because there were points early in Eli’s career when he did, in fact, suck. And no, it doesn’t surprise me that Peyton is defensive about his brother.
October 12th, 2009 at 11:41 am
believe me, after al the shit i talked about eli’s contract being undeserved, the last thing i want to do is make a mea culpa…
but eli is fucking rock solid this year. how you can say he sucks is beyond me.
sigh…this goes for big ben too.
flacco’s still a fraud tho.
October 12th, 2009 at 11:41 am
Peyton said he believed it was a game last year against the Eagles.
/Buck doing an NFC East game without the Cowboys?!?! BLASPHEMY!
October 12th, 2009 at 11:42 am
Just checking - were any of the NBC Sunday night guys or ESPN guys complaining about the passer intereference rules when they benefited Peyton last night, or did they ignore it this time? Yeah thats what I thought.
October 12th, 2009 at 11:43 am
well, he did suck in that game. gilbrides play calling didn’t help. RUN THE BALL!!!
October 12th, 2009 at 11:46 am
4 of Flaccos 22 completions yesterday were to WR’s. He also overthrew a wideo open reciever in the 4th quarter. should have been an EASY TD

whoa whoa whao lets not blame flacco for the ravens loss just yet. there was a idiotic play buy a guy everyone seems to love because he does a retarded dance before the game. roy lewis? no that is it.trey lewis? no that isnt it either.
October 12th, 2009 at 11:52 am
he deserves blame, but so does flacco, who had more issues than ray did. no production and two INT’s…hurting your team and helping the other at the same time. BUT HE WAS CALM DOING IT!!! LOOK HOW COOL HE IS!!!
October 12th, 2009 at 11:52 am
I agree w/ Peter King: Peyton Manning is lapping the field in the MVP race. He may go down as the greatest of all time. Guy is un-real.
October 12th, 2009 at 11:55 am
I think he’s already there. No one has ever been this good.
October 12th, 2009 at 11:56 am
but didnt the penalty that ron lewis get kinda lose the game for them? i thought they were winning when randy lewis made a really dumb decision. BUT HE DANCED BEFORE THE GAME AND IS REALLY INTENSE AND HE IS A MAN OF GOD!
October 12th, 2009 at 11:57 am
From time to time, TBL turns into Mike Greenberg and tries to make something out of nothing. This would be one of those times.
I think a 3-time NFL MVP taking a shot at an NFL broadcasting network’s #1 play-by-play announcer is perfectly cromulent.
October 12th, 2009 at 11:59 am
Know who else looks calm and cool?
People that undergo lobotomies.
October 12th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
one play does not lose a game. it’s a collective effort, and joe flacco contributed more suck to the ravens yesterday than anyone else on that team did.
October 12th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
Alright that confirms it. Scripty is Joe Buck
October 12th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
if royce lewis doenst make that idotic play do the ravens lose? yes or no?
October 12th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
one play does not lose a game. it’s a collective effort….
That statement is what allows Scott Norwood to sleep at night.
October 12th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
Re: Eli… Anybody that has watched football this year should know that Eli is a top 5 qb right now. He is getting everything he can possibly get out of those young receivers, just like Peyton is doing right now.
October 12th, 2009 at 12:05 pm
Was I the only one who found it funny that Peyton was complaining about Buck criticizing Eli, and in the same breath totally rips Eli’s receivers? Just me? Anyway, I wanna smack his marble filled mouth for the way he says “Cooper”.
October 12th, 2009 at 12:07 pm
I used to HATE Peyton, and liked Brady a lot more. That’s totally reversed the past few years. Never wouldve guessed that would ever happen.
NFL Network is the greatest thing ever. MLB Network should be doing shit like this. I’d watch an entire 2 hour program of just first base conversations and managers screaming at umps.
October 12th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
it is the commercials and one of the best athletes on SNL performances. the united way skit was hysterical.
October 12th, 2009 at 12:12 pm
I just think its his superiority to his lil brother
October 12th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
um, sure? was this supposed to be a rip on Eli?
October 12th, 2009 at 12:18 pm
Eli has been a man on fire this year, as has Big Ben. The Giants-Saints game should be a great game to watch as should the Falcons-Bears game. I’m not sure what the other games are this week (maybe Den-SD) but those two jump out at me.
October 12th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
Love it now that a respected person has slammed publicly the arrogant ass that is Joe Buck at least since his high-horsing on the Randy Moss fake mooning, which of course inspired multiple media copycats whose offense at the episode after replaying the clip so many times offended most of us more than did Randy Moss if he ever did offend anyway.
Even Dungy saw through it for the joke it was, but these East Coast careerist types saw fit to try to grandstand to make career progress in the name of “standing up for what is right,” which you know damn well the “free” media types are hardly ever about.
And who cares what car Joe Buck rents anyway in those ads? What an asshole.
October 12th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
Isn’t Joe Buck from that famous east coast state of Missouri?
Right now, at this moment, with the game on the line, Peyton is the only QB I’d take ahead of Eli.
October 12th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
Peyton Manning is playing in the league right now and is the best QB ever, yet we’re still talking about Brett Fucking Favre. I wish #4 would tear his ACL already.
October 13th, 2009 at 11:46 am
Puhlease Darrell, this is such a naive comment on many levels, especially from someone of your experience.
One of the ridiculous inferences one can draw from this sort of comment is the assumption that media types don’t abandon their roots for sake of an upscale urban lifestyle even as they keep that home in some cozy suburb.
Don’t try to convince us that the likes of a media careerist like Joe Buck is by the people for the people like most of the rest of us slugging it out.
Folks like him in the media spend most of their time ridiculing and mocking the people more than I do at least half the bojack reader types on this blog who live in either Circlejerk or Jerkwater in those loser states of PA,OH,VA,NY,and NJ.
How I wish that each commenter would have to disclose their state of residence, as definitely it makes a big difference with high correlation with the douchebag factor I have found even offline.
