The High School Pole Vaulter That Refuses to Go Away
Women's Sports June 1st. 2007, 4:59pm
Before we get to the latest news about a pole vaulter who is rapidly becoming a national phenomenon, kindly take a look at this recent news clip of her. When done, take a look at this NSFW photo of actress Anne Hathaway (it’s a photo of her with a see-through shirt on that she wore on the red carpet once). Tell me they are separated at birth! Pole Vaulter may be trying to hide from fame, but it’s too bad – fame snuck a GPS on her months ago and there’s nothing she can do to shake it.
So onto the news: the Orange County Register did a story about the pole vaulter in question (we’re going to try and do this without mentioning her by name). They took photos. And as Sports by Brooks points out, the Register is selling those photos.
Interesting – a photog comes down hard on With Leather for using her photo, and she complains to the Washington Post about becoming famous on the internet … but doesn’t mind that the newspaper is peddling pictures of her?
PAPER USES STOKKE PIECE TO HAWK HER PHOTO FOR $215 (Sports by Brooks)

Poor Girl. Hot, athletic, an Internet phenomenon (hellooo Nike and Gatorade deals). It must be tough.
Now excuse me as I get back to roughing up the suspect while looking at a split screen of Anne Hathaway and this nubile young minx.

Anne Hathaway? Your taste in women befuddles me.

I see her as the heir apparent to Maria Sharapova in those camera ads, except she’ll have all these “poles” following her down the street.

First the argument in defending posting her pictures was that “She wants attention (or the ever-popular “it”, wink-wink)”, next the argument was “her dad’s a scumbag, so she deserves it”, and now it’s “dinosaur media are hypocrites too, so who cares what us new media types do!” Yawn. Those arguments are weak and have been changing every day. Why doesn’t the sports blogging community just be honest and say “We like to ogle attractive women and get lots of hits for posting pictures of attractive women, and really don’t care whether they like it or not?”

And SportsbyBrooks could have pointed out that there are other articles where the OC Register is selling pictures (http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/news/local/article_1714938.php) is another example. Of course, that might give the story things like “context”. And we’re listening to SBB be sanctimonious about making money off pictures of hot girls? Really? No bias there.

Yeah, I agree. Boring. I still think someone set this poor girl up to be a “celebrity”. Either her dad (he is a lawyer – they aren’t that smart (see TB passenger guy), or maybe someone getting back at her dad. Or this is a marketing blitz by her coach, someone. Maybe even an ex-boyfriend.
Can we get on with our lives and find another hot female swimmer, tennis player, or volleyball player to oogle at? If we show them all, Allison will no longer be the exception.

What’s funny is that her Dad is a criminal defense attorney, and guess who he defended at one time…a teacher accused of molesting young boys.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that, back in MY day, it was allowed!

In regards to the headline, I think she’ll go away once you guys (and everyone else) stops posting about her every week.
OK, she’s cute. We got it. So are hundreds of random high-school athletes.

Stokke makes Hathaway look like an anorexic herion addict…not even close…also I think she looks more like Lyla Garrity from Friday Night lights (Lyla is much hotter then both of them though)

I dont think as much Anne Hathaway as Mila Kunis who was on That 70s Show.
Hot girl holding a big pole in her hands….. c’mon, were ALL thinking of at least 10 jokes at this very moment.

Newspapers having been selling reprints forever; usually to the person in the photograph or that person’s relatives. I am fairly certain the intention was never to sell pictures to perverts. (That would be a good name for a blog, wouldn’t it? Pictures for Perverts?) What is the world coming to when old sportsbybrooks is an authority on anything? At the end of the day those of you who pass around your little links — I did say links, didn’t I? — should be ashamed of yourselves for what you did to this young woman and her family.

okay okay, she kinda reminds me of Minka Kelly (A.K.A. Miss Lyla Gerraty) from our favorite ‘Friday Night Lights,’ http://www.tv.com/minka-kelly/person/274365/photos.html
But not so much on the Nat Portman or your favorite vegitarian Anne Hathaway (who was extremely slutty in the movie ‘Havoc’). I must give it to you, you have an eye for talent, this pole vaulter is definately hot, but if you remember back to the days of ‘The OC,’ I remember seeing hotter extra’s at good old Newport Highschool over there in Orange County! She is probably your average decent looking chick in her highschool…
June 2nd, 2007 at 7:18 pm
What, exactly, has anyone done to her? She’s agreed to major newspaper interviews and talked about pole vaulting on the TV news.
We talk about what’s relevant in sports … right now, she’s very relevant. Perhaps for all the wrong reasons, but relevant nonetheless.
June 2nd, 2007 at 11:58 pm
Give me a break, TBL … she became news after some little wiener boys splashed her photos all over the internet … that’s what you have done! … And cut with the bullshit; the reason the media did stories in recent days is because of guys like you … because she is afraid … because her family is afraid for her well-being … she did not ask or want this celebrity status … it’s sad that you sports reporting wannabes have so much power, but I guess success is now recorded in hits and tits (in the case of the old sportsbybrooks) … it’s sad that you people can affect lives with your silly little games … please tell me what this young woman has done, as a HIGH SCHOOL athlete, to deserve the kind of attention that she received from a group of you bloggers … well, tell me? … Like I said before, you guys should be ashamed of yourselves …

Matt – sorry you feel that way. Somebody took her photo, put it on the internet, and all hell broke loose. This’ll probably all blow over once she reaches the Olympics and gets a gold medal.
June 3rd, 2007 at 6:00 pm
She kind of has a Raven Riley look about her, or so I hear.
June 3rd, 2007 at 7:06 pm
I agree with Matt here, this is the second or third post TBL has done about this girl, and it aint cuz shes an amazing pole vaulter. We get it, you lust after young chicks, if we wanted to do the same we’d go to some cheesy website that doesn’t hide behind a “sports” front.
