Top Athlete Golfer: Tony Romo. In the Mix: Mark McGwire and Jerry Rice. Where’s Michael Jordan?
Golf, Video October 16th. 2009, 11:30am
Golf Digest has compiled a list of the Top 150 athlete-golfers, and Dallas Cowboys fans will be thrilled to know that lady killer/postseason killer Tony Romo is atop the list.
Romo, with a slew of impressive tournament appearances on his resume, easily beat out Tennessee Titans punter Craig Hentrich. In third place is reclusive slugger Mark McGwire, who apparently is tearing up Shady Canyon G.C. in Irvine, California. Rounding out the top 10: Mike Schmidt is 4th, Jerry Rice is 5th, and four athletes have a 0 handicap: Mardy Fish (tennis), Livan Hernandez (baseball), Brett Hull (hockey) and Nate Roberts (skiing). Pete Sampras is 10th even though he “hasn’t posted a score in two years.” [Tony Romo Tops 150 Golf List]

I would say Tiger Woods is the best “athlete-golfer.”
October 16th, 2009 at 11:32 am
I thought John Smoltz was going to win the Tour Championship in a couple years?
October 16th, 2009 at 11:34 am
Spencer-signal must be up.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:34 am
Al Del Greco.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:34 am
Also, anything Tony Romo is “the best” at cannot logically be a sport, or anything that requires decision making, so this is not going to help the golf defenders.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:35 am
Romo is great for 16 holes, chokes on the 17th and goes home before the 18th.

Tony Homo sucks. Maybe not at golf, but at football.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:36 am
Even Pete Sampras’s golf bag is hairy.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:36 am
what about Rich Rhoden? and there is an old kicker too that i can’t think of.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:37 am
sean jean- that is who i was thinking of. al del greco.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:37 am
Charles Barkley.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:38 am
Don’t forget Ben’s 81 on Bethpage
October 16th, 2009 at 11:38 am

Sucks that Romo’s tee shots keep hitting that damned huge TV he plays under.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:40 am
spending his money and telling his friends how great he is.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:40 am
RE: Romo
When you never get to play into late January, you have extra time to work on that swing.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:41 am
John Smoltz.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:41 am
Holy shit my gravatar makes an appearance. It’s the first time I’ve seen it over a year, but somehow it’s the only one that isn’t blocked at work.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:42 am
jpq is probably playing 18 with LT this weekend at Parkland.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:45 am
Ian Howfield.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:45 am
I freaking love that Derek Anderson is on this list. I mean he’s got enough time on his hands to perfect a short game, but he hasn’t yet figured out that you don’t want to throw a dump of pass to RB as hard as fucking possible.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:46 am
Hear about why Romo and Jessica broke up?
She likes it doggy-style but Romo can’t, wait for it… come from behind.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:49 am
Bob Knight

Eh, while amusing, I think this would be a useful trick to have in one’s repetoire. If things are getting too hot and heavy for ya too early you just get off the girl/push the girl off of ya/drop the girl and flip her over and go to town until she makes the proper sounds, or if you’re one of those men attempting to impress the girl until she makes the sounds several times (marrieds and long term relationships need not apply). It’s easier than thinking about Leona Helmsley and more enjoyable too.

I ran into Bobby Knight last summer in a hotel lobby in St Louis and he was carrying his sticks
October 16th, 2009 at 11:56 am
Shouldn’t this go into the Roundup thread?
October 16th, 2009 at 11:57 am
If you’re including retired athletes, John Brodie has to be on the list. He even won an event on the Senior Tour. Rick Rhoden has qualified for numerous USGA events as well.
I haven’t seen him play in a few years, but Jordan was a vastly overrated golfer. He couldn’t even crack the Top 20 at the celebrity event in Tahoe

13 hockey players in the top 50. Never would have guessed that.
October 16th, 2009 at 12:03 pm

October 16th, 2009 at 12:06 pm
Big Ern McCracken.
October 16th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
This is not a list you want to be on if you are a current athelete in a different sport.

October 16th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
jpq is probably playing 18 with LT this weekend at Parkland.
sparty: don’t forget MJ, Dara Torres and Dave Dombrowkski!
/Girardi’s called and he’s a little busy this weekend
btw: this list is a complete joke. I have played with at least 5 NHL guys that are better than these guys, let alone Rick Rhoden and the rest of the Tahoe guys

Never under-estimate what a well fucked wife will do for you. In and outside the bedroom. Plus if you don’t do it she’ll find someone who will.
October 16th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
Oh sure. every once in awhile. But in the general never underestimate the desire of a wife to get hers, shut your mouth, and roll over to go to sleep.
October 16th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
This is true too.

peaks and valleys, my friend.
1. meet: fuck like rabbits
2. move in/marry: fuck, but starts to slow
3. pregnancy/little kids: you learn to like the couch and your fist
4. older kids: call Vivid and see if they want a 5 movie deal

todd haley should be on this list…he tried to go pro back in the day.
romo is ridiculously overrated…grant fuhr and rick rhoden are the tops. big ben’s swing is ugly as fuck but he’s pretty good.
October 16th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
spencer: Grant Fuhr was one of the 5 I played with that’s better than a lot of these guys that I was referencing. Good call.
October 16th, 2009 at 1:29 pm
Do my eyes deceive me or is Dan Quinn not on that list?
I used to work at a local country club in college (beer man/valet/waiter,etc.) and was able to watch Quinn and Lemieux play quite a bit. As good as Lemieux was, Quinn was the better golfer. Then again, that was 16+ years ago, and Quinn could be dead for all I know…
