Yankees-Angels: Redemption Song
Baseball, Video October 16th. 2009, 5:58pm
How good has SI Vault been this week? If not you’re following them on twitter, you’re missing out. Today, they posted this undated photo of Mike Vick and one of his dogs. And is this Billy Bob Thornton from Bad Santa (2:00 minute mark – spectacular), or Tommy Lasorda? No clue if that’s Mariano Rivera’s wife planting a kiss on him, or just a randy fan.
Where are Artie Lange’s football picks, you ask? Stern fans know he’s been out sick this week, and we haven’t received his picks yet. We’ll post them as soon as we get them this weekend. (And we know you’re waiting – he’s 11-4 against the spread!) Speaking of weekend, same drill: CRM and Hernia will tag team things; their emails can be found on the right rail.
Big Saturday in college football: Red River Rivalry at noon, USC-Notre Dame at 3:30, and Virginia Tech at Georgia Tech at 6. Hopefully, those six won’t make Saturday a snooze-fest, which is what the SEC did last weekend.
Perhaps most importantly, there’s also the soggy Yankees-Angels series. Saturday’s game seems like a lock to be rained out, but they’ll definitely play tonight. (This isn’t terrible news for New York sports fans – two of the best teams in the NFL, the Giants and Saints, play at 1 pm Sunday; the Yanks’ make-up game would be at 4 pm. Not that we’ll be watching – we’ll be enjoying the Jets stomping the Bills.)
There seem to be two Yankee camps heading into the series: 1) This is their year, and nobody can stop them. All that spending paid off! A-Rod’s snapped out of his postseason slump! and 2) The Yankees barely beat the Twins. They couldn’t hit Carl Pavano, and they couldn’t hit Nick Blackburn. If not for some late-inning heroics, who knows if the Yankees advance?
We’re firmly in the first camp. Redemption awaits.
Oh, and because PTI just mentioned this anniversary from three years ago:
Oh, and who could forget this anniversary, from 2003?

My local CBS affiliate cut into shows and kicked Couric off the air so they could air “Big Blue Madness” aka practice.

Buyin’ Evian just to take a fuckin’ bath.
October 16th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
CJ – that’s fucking great ha. I like how the last guy tried to get a line in but was sadly very behind.
October 16th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
Fuck a bank, I need a 20-year water tank.
October 16th, 2009 at 6:13 pm
That album is just gold. I listen to it several times a week, and discover new stuff each time. Been listening to “climb” a lot this week.
October 16th, 2009 at 6:19 pm
Oh yeah, that album’s classic. I’ve been listening to this song all day for some reason.
October 16th, 2009 at 6:21 pm
Nice, I just listened to the Resurrection album a bit ago.
October 16th, 2009 at 6:26 pm
I’ve posted this video several times, but it’s still awesome. One take.
October 16th, 2009 at 6:26 pm
alright bitches, heading for the game. Hopefully my phone doesn’t die so I can leave potentially embarrassing comments on here and/or twi++er
October 16th, 2009 at 6:34 pm
considering the bills suck, this should be the game you flip to check out. not the Yankees game. i question your yankee fandom. it’s FUCKING OCTOBER!!!
October 16th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
well, that was a bad throw.
October 16th, 2009 at 6:46 pm
It looked like Ruiz had some words for Eyre as he was leaving the mound.
October 16th, 2009 at 6:53 pm
VERY nasty changeup from Madson there.
October 16th, 2009 at 6:55 pm
No artie lange post today?
October 16th, 2009 at 6:58 pm
I’m still confused as to why Russell Martin has a “J. Martin” jersey on. Also, anyone else notice the music selection at Dodger Stadium? “Joker and the Thief” by Wolfmother, “Bro Hymn” by Pennywise, and “Map of the Problamatique” by Muse I’ve heard so far…all real good tunes. Interesting selection.
October 16th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
It’s for one of his 42 middle names.
October 16th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
It’s one of his middle names – it’s his way of honoring his mother (she has the name that starts with “J”)
October 16th, 2009 at 7:06 pm
Ah, OK. Didn’t know that. Didn’t know if it was another “Todd Light” type of announcer miscue.
October 16th, 2009 at 7:07 pm
No Artie today… My weekend is already off to a sour start.
October 16th, 2009 at 7:10 pm
/fixed
October 16th, 2009 at 7:16 pm
Seriously…
Chip Caray is absolutely awful (and I know this is not news). But how you start with talking about how the weak point of the Phillies’ season is the bullpen, and then the NEXT sentence is about how Utley pretty much cost them the game. Jesus almighty.
October 16th, 2009 at 7:16 pm
412: what do you think about the Pitt vs. Rutgers game? I’m feeling like pitt is going to run all over them, but this is a classic game for pitt to lose (national tv and expected to win).
October 16th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
thinkin about jumpin on rutgers +6, loved Pitt but the line jumped real high
October 16th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
Jaguars (-9.5) over the Rams: Because Rush Limbaugh is fatter than me
Falcons (-3.5) over the Bears: Because I once did a line off a stipper’s ass at the Gold Club while Patrick Ewing watched back in 1995
Jets (-9.5) over the Bills: I’ve already come up with two sentences that provide no insight or humor to this blog, you ungrateful sons of bitches really looking for a third?
October 16th, 2009 at 7:28 pm
this.
October 16th, 2009 at 7:30 pm
The Utley error was obviously bad, but going to Happ to face Ethier with the bases loaded was stunningly silly.
Especially after Madson had just got Kemp with a nice changeup.
October 16th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
Yeah Recc… not one I’d bet on either way. I think either Pitt runs away with it or they just plain get beat. If I HAD to pick I’d do Pitt, but i’m a huge homer sooo yeah.
October 16th, 2009 at 7:42 pm
yeah this game has stay away from it written all over it, but the gambler in me says fuck it and take the points ya know
October 16th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
Took Pitt -6, not feeling real confident. Fortunately had Cinci -2 last night…
October 16th, 2009 at 7:47 pm
Recc- I also would say fuck it and take the points. It will make the game just that much more enjoyable!
October 16th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
took cinci last night bulldog, needed it after boise state fucked me royally the other night. i havent been that depressed after a game in awhile…took rutgers +6, now watch bill stull become a heisman candidate folks
October 16th, 2009 at 8:06 pm

Had a buddy who lost 5 bills on Boise. Yikes.
October 16th, 2009 at 8:06 pm
Are Swisher and Damon serious with the earmuff hat? I assure you, its not that cold.
October 16th, 2009 at 8:10 pm
there is a guy in the arena wearing a yankee hat. I called him a fucking cocksucker. Needed to get that off my chest.
October 16th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
dumb ass angels, all bundle up out there….its was 95 today for the dogers game.
October 16th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
Speechless. Was Figgins smoking a cigarette?
October 16th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
Fetch is going to get his ass kicked tonight, book it.
October 16th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
High school football blows. It’s cold and one team has 19 fucking yards at halftime and I’m hungry as fuck. Side note. Bob Marley is the man. Redemption Song is the bees knees.

That or he’s about to rob a bank.
October 16th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
Artie picks just arrived.
Yanks take lead.
Seated at movie.
Reports later
October 16th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
Later? How the fuck am I supposed to follow the Yankees game now? My night is ruined.
October 16th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
Also, fuck you, because I don’t have Paranormal Activity within an hour drive of me.
October 16th, 2009 at 8:40 pm
This Being Human show ain’t half bad.
I saw two episodes of the 6. It was a show I watched with my wife, but when 4 of them ended up on the DVR, I deleted them. I wish I hadn’t, but I like to keep a tight DVR ship. About two weeks later, I had nothing to watch.
October 16th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
little over 2 mins in. that didn’t take long.
yeah there’s gonna be a fight tonight. Im sure I’ll catch hell for this but fuck it…the way our two fanbases hate eachother make OSU-Michigan seem like a Kindergarten class
October 16th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
you’re buttfucking a kindergarten class?
October 16th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
Yeah, I’m stuck at home with the flu and concluded earlier I may have exhausted every quality TV show out there, then one of my friends texted me to try this out. It’s nothing great, but fairly entertaining. I had to pause it to watch the new Wizards of Waverly Place, though.
October 16th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
no clue what beadlemania is talking about
October 16th, 2009 at 8:47 pm

October 16th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
Peanut Tillman’s hosting a party tonight.
October 16th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
Amazingly enough, Buck-McCarver is a welcome relief.

Jeter, unclutch there. F him and his herpes.
October 16th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
What game is Fetch at?
October 16th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
I totally agree with tommyp – its amazing how great Buck and McCarver sound right now. They must love having TBS “open” for them in the postseason.
October 16th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
cj I’m at our hockey game vs. Minnesota
October 16th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Oh North Dakota? Nice. Maine sucks this year, again.
October 16th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
Shit where is everyone tonight? Is there a party at mrejr’s house?
October 16th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Lost the last episode of Lost and SNL’s season finale with the perfect version of Goodnight Saigon bcause of lazy DVR managing. You’re as always a wise man.
October 16th, 2009 at 9:51 pm
It’s friday, most people have the decency to have social lives. I, however, am both sick and have no social life (and am still drinking). This game is upsetting me. I thought I was rooting for the Yankees but I just can’t do it.
October 16th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
“The Yankees have the ability to get a bunch of clutch homeruns, with Teixera and A-Rod and all, they just have a lot of clutch weapons.” -Joe Morgan on radio right before the first pitch.
October 16th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
But I don’t know what highlight McCarver just watched. Looked like his toe was on the bag when the ball hit Teixeira’s glove. .
October 16th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
TST: usually Friday nights are hopping in here. Most of these people dont have social lives, you should know that.
October 16th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
Fetch – I just looked at the North Dakota roster. That’s a lot of Canadian kids for a U.S. school. Is that normal? Brad Malone is from the tiny ass town my parents are from.
October 16th, 2009 at 9:57 pm
not really GG, we probably have the most Canadians, certainly of the elite programs.
October 16th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
Bears traded for Gaines Adams. They gave up a 2 rounder in next year’s draft. I like it but I wouldnt mind if they went and got a receiver.
October 16th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
my gf’s away for the weekend. A rare weekend night on LI indoors, with strong, cold winds blowing outside.
October 16th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
yeah I don’t think Im going out after the game tonight. Drinking from 1 until 7 was a bad idea.
October 16th, 2009 at 10:01 pm
I just got finished watching UK’s Madness stuff. Wall, Patterson and Bledsoe. Whoa.
October 16th, 2009 at 10:03 pm
Eric Escobar is jigglely.
October 16th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
When did the Angels forget about defense?
October 16th, 2009 at 10:06 pm
intermission! time to go to the bar!
October 16th, 2009 at 10:07 pm
When they stepped onto the field.
October 16th, 2009 at 10:24 pm
random thought, and I’ll catch hell for this too, but our fanbase’s expectations make Kentucky bball fans seem apathetic
October 16th, 2009 at 10:28 pm
fetch i think billy gillispie would have lasted longer at kansas than he did at kentucky. and im not saying that just to be saying it.
October 16th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
mrejr i’m talking about my school’s hockey team. first off his hockey equivalent never would have been hired in the first place and 2nd he would have been canned like 5 games in, comparatively speaking.
by the way, i’m not drunk anymore. well i can function at least. Im pissed
October 16th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
A rare weekend night on LI indoors, with strong, cold winds blowing outside.
just got back from picking my daughter up at a HS football game (I was looking for you fetch!), and it was fucking 87 degrees at 10:25 when I pulled in back home. Ridiculous
October 16th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
God, Behind Enemy Lines is such a sweet movie.
October 16th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
I keep trying to explain how Behind Enemy Lines: Columbia with Mr. Kennedy is hilarious for so many reasons to people, and I always fail. Never seen the original, assumed it sucked. By and by rotten tomatoes, Couples Retreat 12%, The Mist (which I hated and was praised earlier) 73%, Behind Enemy Lines 36%
October 16th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
if you two thought behind enemy lines was funny, the expendables is gonna be insanely hilaious. i cant wait to see the return of infinite ammo to movies. reloading is for reality.
October 16th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
Behind Enemy Lines is a run of the mill action movie. But it’s one of the few movies about the Bosnian War. Plus there are some fucking OUTRAGEOUS Gene Hackman shots where he is plotting revenge against the bad guys.
The bad guy is sick too.
Just a fun movie, great ending.
October 16th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
to further my point mrejr: our coach went to the frozen four (our equivalent of the final four, although i’m sure you got that) his first four years on the job. but since we didn’t win the national title in any of those years there were plenty of people who wanted him gone
October 16th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
I have never not enjoyed Gene Hackman. Think he is the most underrated actor of the last (God) forty years now.
October 16th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
i like how batista says rey is like his little brother even though rey has been in the business twice as long as him.
October 16th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
I have never not enjoyed Gene Hackman. Think he is the most underrated actor of the last (God) forty years now.
I heard him on LeBatard a couple weeks ago. Said he’s retired from movies now. He’s like 81 (believe it or not) and said they don’t make movies for old people like him, and he doesn’t like them anyway. Good interview.
October 16th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
Fetch name changes of fake names are disturbing. I refuse to call you Beadlemania, so now I’m just confused. Further with Hackman, Roger Ebert’s review of Heartbreakers includes this line that I think of whenever I think of Hackman:
“My guess is that Hackman decided to take the role when he hit on the approach of playing Tensy as W.C. Fields.”
I find this funny. Screw you, I’m sick and drinking.
October 16th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
You have to gooch, it’s TBL code. It might even be in the commenters bill of rights
October 16th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
Batista is at least 41, and I think a little bit older. I’m switching between last nights TNA and the Angels-Yankee game. I think TNA is by far a better product at this point.
October 16th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
JLH in Heartbreakers is a top 10 hot role.
Sniper in Behind Enemy Lines is totally the inspiration for Niko in GTA IV.
October 16th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
i caught the tail end of angle-styles and if tna just had those two wrestle for 2 hours a week i dont think i would mind one bit. that is the only thing i watched of tna. when aj did that flip into a splash i was really amazed. that dude can put on a show.
October 16th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
while Behind Enemy Lines in kinda cheesy, I absolutely refuse to watch a single movie loaded with all that CGI crap. It’s so fake. I’d rather watch a cartoon
October 16th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
No doubt. God. I worked for Wehrenberg Theatres here in St. Louis from my sixteenth birthday through mid 2000 with a brief early college failure inbetween (a little over four years), was a manager at Ronnie’s 20, got coerced into staying to watch Heartbreakers after hours when I was sick. We would stay and drink (Theatre sold beer) and smoke and whatnot (Bowlingo rules), apparently uppermanagement was angry about it (we’d scratched a print) wandered into the food court smoking with my 64 ounce mug, saw movement out of the corner of my eye, thought “kids are still in here” opened the door, my boss and his boss are running by, ask me whats in the cup, I say “what do you think is in my cup” (I had just turned 20), they take my keys, keep running, fire the entire mid management staff that night. I don’t understand why I drink when I’m sick.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
I don’t understand why Jurassic Park (which I watched recently) still manages to look as realistic as dinosaurs can, but everything after 1999 looks like complete shit. I guess they stopped including animatronics with the CGI, but WHY?
October 16th, 2009 at 11:06 pm
everybody notices:
October 16th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
everybody notices:
sportsguy33 Never enjoyed Joe Buck more than tonight. He should ask HBO to launch “The Chip Caray Show” and stick it right before his.
or he’s getting material from us-lol

October 16th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
dont want to spoil paranormal activity, but i’ll confirm it was scary.
similar, IMO, to blair witch with the handheld camera (i went in fresh, didnt know anything at all except that it was scary).
really good buildup for the first 2/3 of the movie.
i did think the movie hit a snag and some of the ending was kind of clunky.
TIP – if you go to see the movie, make sure to NOT be near the theater as the prior showing is ending.
October 16th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
also, the previews had 2 really good movies, maybe even a third one.
-lovely bones looks real good. based on the book.
-nome, alaska looks scary. going to read up on the movie (says it was based on a true story).
October 17th, 2009 at 12:16 am
sorry, it isn’t called nome, alaska. it’s called the 4th kind. takes place in nome alaska.
SPOILERS CONTAINED

URGENT:Anyone planning on going and watching paranormal activity. STOP! It might have been the worst film i have ever wasted money on in my entire life, Boring as hell and the trailor gives away everything. DO NOT GO SEE THIS MOVIE!
October 17th, 2009 at 2:43 am
It completely ripped of blair watch, and speilberg ruined the whole move with his touch at the end. how you thought that movie was anything other than garbage is beyond me TBL. literally the biggest waste of $8.50 i’ve thrown around in years……christie’s cabaret doesn’t count
October 17th, 2009 at 8:16 am
How did Chelsea score?

I think there’s a sickness running through the comment section here. I caught whatever Sanders has.
