General Managers Like the Way Rajon Rondo Plays Defense, Doc Rivers, Less So
1-liner, NBA October 19th. 2009, 1:30pmDoc Rivers and Rajon Rondo: In a recent NBA poll, general managers voted Boston’s Rajon Rondo and LA’s Kobe Bryant as the best on-ball defenders in the league. Rondo’s coach, Doc Rivers, scoffed at that. “That’s because they don’t coach. Don’t get me wrong, Rondo is a fantastic defender, but he’s got a level to go and he can be a great, great defender. For him to do that, he has to stay in front of the ball. When the GM’s start coaching, then we’ll listen to them. Until then, go with the coaches.” [Boston Herald]

and there are about 5 NBA coaches who actually coach anymore in the NBA, and you are not one of them Doc.

I clearly remember D Rose and Rafer blowing right by him in the playoffs. Ronda is overrated. Buck Foston

Rondo is clearly fucking Doc’s daughter. Doc hates him.

and doc is a shitbag coach who owes the rest of his coaching career to kevin mchale. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!!! Including doc winning a championship.

Great motivational tactic by Doc to light a fire under Rondo’s ass. This way, he’ll still bust his ass working on defense won’t listen to the media slurping him.

Agreed. The last thing those guys need is for a headcase like Rondo to start buying into his own hype.

this is having 5 scandinavians vote for a prize and giving it to someone they know little about. with these kinds of votes (ie a large pool), votes are cast based on perception instead of reality.

Because of his athleticism, Rondo is a great stealer of the ball and can anticipate passes very well. His on-the-ball defense leaves something to be desired, however.
Same when he was at UK. Great anticipation and ability to get steals. Bad at stopping his man from scoring in the half-court.

Which is why Kobe made first team defense (again) last year, and LeBron got left off – yet somehow the writers thought he was the second best defensive player in the league. (The Magic laugh at that notion).

LeBron made first team defense. cursed your hatred is terrifying.
October 19th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
Shannon Brown owned him.
October 19th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
and Lebron was runner-up all defensive player of the year to Dwight
October 19th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
Dwight who?
October 19th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
K. Schrute.

So did Chris Lofton. Again and again.
October 19th, 2009 at 4:55 pm
writers vote for that. That’s what I was getting at.

Oh and Duder, come on now, I give Bron Bron mad respect..he’s the best player in the league. I just don’t like him very much.
