Georgia Tech Fans Tear Down Goalposts After Beating Virginia Tech, Deposit Them on President’s Lawn
College Football, Fans, Video, WWE October 21st. 2009, 12:00pmGeorgia Tech knows how to party. Starting around the 2:15 mark, here’s riveting video of rabid Yellow Jacket fans tearing down the goalposts after ending Virginia Tech’s national title dreams Saturday, carrying them through the streets, and dumping them on the lawn of the University President. A hacksaw (not Jim Duggan) made an appearance. Tennessee fans may want to take note; you know, just in case the Vols shock the world and beat Alabama Saturday. Predictably, the President was peeved. Lefty is a proud papa this morning.

Pathetic. A team ranked in the top-20 beats a team ranked in the top-5 and they tear down the posts? Amateur hour at its finest. It’s not like they haven’t beaten VT before. Hell, three days before the game tickets were still available.

Storming the field has been diluted just like the Gatorade bath. It used to be winning a title got you a gatorade dousing, now it’s winning the Big 12 North or ACC coastal. It’s lame.

I helped bring down 2 FG posts after a win over ECU.
It did break a 23 game losing streak, so I think it was acceptable.

How were you gonna get those goalpost all the way back to Iowa on your tractor?

The Bills had lost to the Dolphins 20 straight times in the 1970’s (10 straight years). When they beat the Dolphins at the opener in 1980, the fans tore down the goalposts and carried them up through the stands to Ralph Wilson’s box.

Gonna hang that sumbitch right on the hitch, jimmy-rig a Hawkeye flag on there and drive on the side of I-35 all the way down through the heartland.

puhlease. Tennessee fans would walk the goalposts down Neyland Drive and throw them in the Tennessee River 1998-style.

Lane Kiffin vs. Nick Saban
Or as it’s known in Baton Rouge, AIDS vs. cancer

We would never do such a thing. Act like you’ve been there all you engineering nerds.

Good God. The Big Bang Theory guys should be out of this chick’s league.

by the way, that game is in Tuscaloser so it would be a long walk back to the president’s house.

ill – are the Bammers nervous at all?
Jay – corndogs. that is all.
October 21st, 2009 at 1:09 pm
jpq – Bammer is ranked in the top 2 in all major polls…it’s time for a cheating scandal and the death penalty. I think tape-gate qualifies.

keep in mind that students are usually there for 4-5 years and after they graduate, they may never be able to experience those excitement again. since i graduate in 04, i moved across the country and never been back to campus. it was so bad that week, that they almost (but didn’t) cancel classes. i figured since no one went to class, why bother canceling it and having to make it up later.

an asthma attack????

I just can’t wait to see how the media reacts if Lane brings out the orange jerseys and takes the 15 yard penalty. I know he won’t, but it’d be hilarious.
October 21st, 2009 at 1:22 pm
Spoken like a true bitter Georgia fan, especially this year. It’ll be a great game against the Ramblin’ Wreck as usual this year as well.
October 21st, 2009 at 1:25 pm
I don’t know how far back you are really going in saying this or if you are just really bitter as a Georgia fan, but I am not the only one, having stormed a field myself, to know for a fact that for at least 25 years fans at multiple schools have stormed the field after their teams won big rivalry games or upset a higher-ranked team. Good for GT, as apparently the “experts” had VT ranked too highly for some time.

A possible broken arm, asthma attack and “hurt” ankle are on the preliminary list of injuries from Saturday’s victory celebration after Tech beat then-No. 4 Virginia Tech 28-23, spokesman Matt Nagel said in a statement.
an asthma attack????
gotta be hard to try and keep it real with your boyz without your trusty nebulizer handy
October 21st, 2009 at 1:29 pm
sean jean – I really hope Lane brings the Orange out. nothing galvanizes the fanbase like a giant middle finger toward Bammer.
October 21st, 2009 at 1:32 pm
From the guy whose team rushed the field after scoring a touchdown against Florida two years ago. Stay classy, bulldog fans.
October 21st, 2009 at 1:43 pm
And that was lame, too. Doesn’t change the fact that storming the field after beating a 1-loss VT team isn’t lame.
Not sure I follow. Tech is the better team this year (by far) but should they lose to UGA those Sundeep and Panesh are going to hear it from me for 364 days.
/damn nerds
October 21st, 2009 at 1:44 pm
miz: Exactamundo. That being said, we need every yard we can get, so it’s probably not a good idea.
October 21st, 2009 at 1:47 pm
Just sayin’
October 21st, 2009 at 2:14 pm
I can’t even believe I’m about to respond to this nonsense. Typical UGA dumbass classifying all Georgia Tech fans as “nerds”. Seriously, how old are you?
We beat a top 5 team at home for the first time since 1962, and the win also put us back in BCS contention. After years of Chan Gailey’s medicrity, I’d say storming the field was exactly what we should have done. Enjoy Georgia’s 5-6 loss season this year with your built Ford-tough coach.
October 21st, 2009 at 2:23 pm
No way bama fans allow this to happen in Tuscaloosa. Bryant Denny has never been “rushed” and most likely never will be.
October 21st, 2009 at 11:53 pm
Well we do know
he’s originally from Nebraska and does not think they played that bad given their good defense in a 31-10 loss to Texas Tech,
he really hates Jimmy Clausen and does not think he’s the finest quarterback in the land now based on his play to date
he is aggressively atheist and hates all things Notre Dame and smacking of religion
he thinks Atlanta is an awesome town,
he is busy homering Alabama because they are the only SEC team undefeated than his hated Florida, but of course one of them has to be the best team no matter what and
above all he claims to be an objective and more informed analyst of college football than almost anyone on this site.
Since we know all that about him, why care about his age?
