Marcus Jordan Pits Adidas vs. Nike at the University of Central Florida
1-liner, Athlete spawn, College Basketball October 22nd. 2009, 9:45amAdidas vs. NIKE: “UCF promised Marcus Jordan, son of NBA legend Michael Jordan, that he could wear his father’s Nike Air Jordan brand for the Knights’ basketball team this season. The problem? UCF has an exclusive $3 million, six-year contract with adidas that requires all coaches and athletes to use the company’s shoes, apparel and game equipment. And now UCF and adidas are at an impasse, leaving an 18-year-old freshman with a famous father caught in the middle.” is Marcus Jordan worth the headache? [Orlando Sentinel]

This has nothing to do with this post, but my friend pointed this out to me last night:

The sick part here is that he has a scholarship. Why not just make him pay his own way and give the scholarship to some kid who actually needs one.
October 22nd, 2009 at 10:04 am
ATL Dan, that’s pretty funny, but truthfully Sheldon Williams is laughing at you, while he’s sexing up the lovely and talented Candace Parker.
October 22nd, 2009 at 10:07 am
too funny ATLDan. Mo Williams probably did that after the game last night
October 22nd, 2009 at 10:08 am
He earned it though. Why not reward him for hard work.

Because if that’s your recruiting pitch to him, you’re not likely to get a call back. Kids aren’t going to choose a school based on that school not offering a scholarship. And it’s borderline unethical to offer him one, sign him to an LOI, and then pull it away when he arrives.

ahh my bad irish. he is the son that was actually wanted by major programs, i’m pretty sure the other one wasn’t too great.
October 22nd, 2009 at 10:25 am

October 22nd, 2009 at 10:32 am
@atl
I laughed
He earned a scholarship, then quit, but now he’s coming back, though w/o the scholarship.

the best part of the Shelden Williams thing is that it’s footnoted.

I love how my alma mater only gets mentioned in the news because of Michael Jordan’s son, what shoes he wears, and people being upset because they have tailgating restrictions.
I still, however, love UCF.

The real question here is why is MJ’s kid wearing glasses in his team photo? You’re telling me he can’t afford lasik?
/kids with glasses are dorks stereotype’d

Many players mistake interest as offers or have conditional offers meaning once we hear from a couple people you then you can commit. Marcus Jordan couldn’t sniff the floor at Miami, if the kids name was something other then jordan you wouldn’t have heard much about him.
Also, I am not sure about the butler offer, they got a lot better player in Chrishawn Hopkins, a lot of high majors are going to be mad they overlooked him. I know IU tried to show some interest to him late.
