Phillies Enjoy Final Champagne Celebration of 2009
Baseball, Video October 22nd. 2009, 11:15am
Because the World Series doesn’t begin until Wednesday, there will be plenty of time to dissect the matchups, the benches, the bullpens, the cities, and November weather. We’ll get the discussion started with this: Yankees pitching just shut down the Twins and Angels, both of whom were in the top five in MLB in batting average and OBP. The Phillies were 22nd and 14th, respectively. Will the Phillies’ bats be able to handle the Yankees’ starters? Last night: Jayson Werth homered twice and the Phillies rolled, 10-4.
This series was so lopsided there’s no point in further discussing it. Back to Phillies-Yankees. Two former Cleveland pitchers are likely to start in game one. Cliff Lee and CC Sabathia are already texting about it. If Lee doesn’t come through in the opener, it might be a short series. Their options after that are struggling Cole Hamels, ancient Pedro Martinez, or rookie JA Happ.
Biggest question: Will one of our readers, a die-hard Phillies fan, be able to get us to a World Series game? And if that happens, will we survive while wearing Yankee gear?
Brett Myers is a loser. [The Fightins]

Hope the Dodgers use the offseason to work on their hitting and get a starting pitcher…or 2…or 3.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:18 am
Don’t want to jinx anything but I got my hook up last night for tickets for the first game in Philly and will be supporting my Yankees gear.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:18 am
BRING IT.
You shouldn’t be bothered, aside from random booing, as long as you don’t make an ass out of yourself. You won’t be in friendly territory, don’t act like you are.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:20 am
minor thread jack:
Jim Leyland named Carlos Guillen his 2010 starting left fielder. From the rest of the AL Central, we’d just like to say thanks Jimmy.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:20 am
The reverse jinxing is getting old fast, TBL.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:20 am
lol funny video how come they didnt show him backhand her after she said no.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:21 am
tbl, you are making it easier to root against arod again. this is the one year when i didnt care if the yankees got carried by ARod to a ws win but with more posts just assuming the yankees are gonna walk over the phillies i see that changing.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:21 am
Wait, this is the same starting staff that HAD to use CC on 3 days rest a couple of days ago? With a 200 Cagillion dollar payroll?
Yeah, everyone’s REAL intimidated.
/How did CC do last year against the Phils in the playoffs?
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:22 am
what section? if you dont want to post, email me. if a certain reader can hook me up, we can meet up and get our asses kicked together!
ill – no reverse jinx here. yankees in 5.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:22 am
Interestingly enough, the Yanks only had the best player in the series in the ALCS.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:24 am
i’m assuming tbl is a yanks fan and thats good, this will just be another series where all the analysts pick the other team. last year everyone picked the brewers dodgers and rays to win. this year everyone picked the rockies, dodgers and will pick the yanks. I actually want to win this one in yankee stadium, not at home. christen that billion dollar shitbox
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:24 am
It’s gonna be interesting to see what the Phillies do against a team w/ a real pitching staff, and a real bullpen.
/NOTHING.
Yankees offense will eat Peter, Cole, and Blanton for breakfast and shit them out to make room for Madsen and Lidge.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:24 am
shelled in one game at philly. worth noting:
he’ll be at home for the opener. and if they win tonight, well-rested.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:25 am
Not to mention there is still an ALCS going on!! WOW after 2004 I wouldnt think he’d be so brazen.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:25 am
oh but theres reaaazy to make me want the phillies to lose.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:26 am
good point the only thing better than beating the yanks in the WS would be beating the Angels in the WS with the yanks at home
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:26 am
after 2004 I wouldnt think he’d be so brazen
This isn’t 2004. And the Angels are FAR from being anything close to the ‘04 Sox.
Yanks win tonight.
Smoke the Phillies in 5.

“billion dollar shitbox”
lol
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:27 am
No way MLB allows another series to end early. They’ll bring out the Florida-Arkansas officiating crew to do some Enrico Pullazo-ing if need be.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:27 am
root for the yanks mre
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:27 am
does anyone really think the angels are going to win 3 in a row? the final 2 at yankee stadium? the way the teams are playing?
/yes, aware of 2004
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:28 am
agreed. I thought I was rooting for the Yankees when the Cards went out and TBL has ruined it for me.
Of course if there’s one thing I hate more than rampant homerism it’s “Nobody believes in us WAAAAAAAAAHHH”ism.
/in conclusion, hates all fanbases, including my own.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:28 am
phillies pitching definitely gives them a chance.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:28 am
That does it. I’m rooting for the Phillies now. I previously thought that to be impossible.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:28 am

October 22nd, 2009 at 11:28 am
Ah you are falling into his trap, thats what he wants you to do!
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:29 am
TST theres no WAAAAAAAHH here. i like it.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:29 am
I don’t think Yankee fans are getting this. I know several and they think this is going to be like an intraleague series in July.
I put the over/under on fights posted to Youtube during this series at 7.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:29 am
I don’t remember the ‘04 Sox from being THE ‘04 SOX until after they won three games in a row.

If you are aware of 2004, then you are aware you could have asked the same questions above back then. Sox looked defeated and pathetic after game 3. Im not saying the Angels are gonna win but Jesus dude, dont tempt the baseball gods.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:31 am
I don’t remember the ‘04 Sox from being THE ‘04 SOX until after they won three games in a row.
Like TBL said, do you really think the Angels are gonna win 3 in a row? Seriously?
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:31 am
Of course not.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:32 am
Paolo’s head is going to explode when/(if, but not really) the Yanks Phils series goes down.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:33 am
Every fanbase likes it which is why local papers always play it up and people pick national guys to focus their “they didn’t pick us” aggression on.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:33 am
Maybe, maybe not, but I’m not sure TBL is the horse you want to hitch your wagon to when it comes to baseball.

I seriously did not think the Red Sox could win 4 in a row. Doesnt mean it couldnt happen.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:34 am
TST- ok
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:35 am
The biggest thing worth noting with CC is that the Angels and Twins were both very aggressive against CC. That is counter to the patient strategies that the Phillies and Red Sox used against him the last few appearances in the postseason. So, it will be interesting to see how CC will do if the Phillies are able to come out and work him patiently.

well theN, here’s hoping whoever hands the winning team the ws trophy that right when the trophy is about to change hands the presenter kicks the winner in the nuts stone cold stuns him and hands the trophy to a third team and JR is shouting “IT’S THE CUBS THE CUBS THE CUBS THE CUBS! BUSINESS IS ABOUT TO PICK UP!”
/the only way the cubs can get a ws trophy DAMN YOU CUBS!! [shakes fist]
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:38 am
The Phillies should be hitting Ryan Howard 7th in game 1. Of course they won’t but they should.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:39 am
A Yankees World Series will not be the same without Chad Curtis.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:40 am
I will say this — Phillies-related gear is the ugliest shit I’ve ever seen. I’d rather wear Homer’s gown.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:42 am
What should their order be?
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:42 am
It’s not a gown, it’s a mumu, and he only wears it so he doesn’t look like a weirdo.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:43 am
pinstripes are ugly?
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:44 am
A Yankees World Series will not be the same without Chad Curtis.
Jim Gray disagrees.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:44 am
Yeah I thought that was ironic for a Yankee fan to say.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:45 am
clown is due to return soon, no?
10/27 I think he’s due back.
Let’s see here, a World Series consisting of teams from two loud mouth metropoli….how great for the rest of the country.
/puts gun in mouth.
//hopes Phillies win.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:45 am
Hey, I’m not a jersey guy. But the Phillies are cartoon red. It’s ugly.

Do you guys wear the actual uniforms of your favorite team? Please tell me you wear cleats too.
I’m talking about the colors. The Yankees would be dark blue.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:47 am
Because?
/this is a joke, right?
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:47 am
I like the Phils stuff when they incorporate the blue trim.
/Uniform Watch’d
//seriously though, it’s sharp
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:48 am
Yeah sorry I dont see what the problem with red is.

October 22nd, 2009 at 11:48 am
i own a howard jersey…stirrups too if I’m feelin’ frisky
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:48 am
Yeah, definitely makes sense to bat a guy 7th who is 3 for 7 off Sabathia, and was 2 for 4 off him this year, when that guy has been their 4 hitter for his entire career.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:49 am
Boston’s is a deeper, more subtle red. I like their uniforms.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:49 am
Hey, I’m not a jersey guy. But the Phillies are cartoon red. It’s ugly.
Seriously? Maroon is ugly. The current Phillies unis are great. They’re the same uniforms they wore in the 50’s.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:51 am
HA. I presume on those late nail polish nights.

Indeed, it all came off just in time for me to be Barney Rubble for Halloween.
October 22nd, 2009 at 12:15 pm
Never, would a team come back from down 3-1 against the 3 best pitchers on a staff. Especially when they have to win games 6 and 7 on the road.

October 22nd, 2009 at 12:21 pm
WAY too early for this discussion. Let’s see the Yankees close the ALCS first.
October 22nd, 2009 at 12:46 pm
Because he hits like a backup catcher against lefties.
