pedro-martinez-ryan-howardBecause the World Series doesn’t begin until Wednesday, there will be plenty of time to dissect the matchups, the benches, the bullpens, the cities, and November weather. We’ll get the discussion started with this: Yankees pitching just shut down the Twins and Angels, both of whom were in the top five in MLB in batting average and OBP. The Phillies were 22nd and 14th, respectively. Will the Phillies’ bats be able to handle the Yankees’ starters? Last night: Jayson Werth homered twice and the Phillies rolled, 10-4.

This series was so lopsided there’s no point in further discussing it. Back to Phillies-Yankees. Two former Cleveland pitchers are likely to start in game one. Cliff Lee and CC Sabathia are already texting about it. If Lee doesn’t come through in the opener, it might be a short series. Their options after that are struggling Cole Hamels, ancient Pedro Martinez, or rookie JA Happ.

Biggest question: Will one of our readers, a die-hard Phillies fan, be able to get us to a World Series game? And if that happens, will we survive while wearing Yankee gear?
