Damn Yankees: Anaheim 7, New York 6
Baseball October 23rd. 2009, 10:45am
Nick Swisher failed. Bases loaded, bottom of the ninth, and Swish pops out.
Joe Girardi failed, again. He erred opening the 7th with Burnett. Should have gone with Hughes.
AJ Burnett failed. You knew at some point in the postseason this guy would soil himself.
[We interrupt this post for ... religion: "Sources" say A-Rod is flirting with Buddhism, thanks to Kate Hudson.]
The series will go shift to the Bronx Saturday for game six. It is highly unlikely that the game will take less than three hours. Andy Pettitte for the Yankees, and Joe Saunders for the Angels.
This was the most exciting baseball game we’ve seen this season. We should add that when Anaheim went up 4-0, we put the game on mute, then switched to the Office (which was fantastic, what a season), dabbled in 30 Rock and some football before returning just in time for the 7th. People say all you need to do is tune into the 4th quarter of an NFL game or the 4th quarter of an NBA game? In baseball, it’s the 7th-9th.

pfff. Didn’t he also convert to whatever the hell Madonna’s practicing?
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:47 am
You switched over to the Office while your favorite team was playing a playoff game? Are you Bill Simmons?
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:48 am
Nick Swisher flied out in the seventh inning, twice. Holy crap get this guy outta there.
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:48 am
3-for-29
Swisher’s going to lose his celebrity girlfriend to Melky if he keeps this up
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:49 am
had girardi done the wise thing and pulled AJ and put Hughes in to start the inning, AJ would have been a hero for coming back strong after the poor 1st inning. damn you girardi!
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:49 am
what madonna does isn’t a religion…it’s bullshit for rich chicks who have nothing better to do.
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:49 am
I’ll take Nick Swisher
/every smart GM
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:50 am
This was the most exciting baseball game we’ve seen this season. We skipped an hour and a half of it, came back, and thing thing was STILL fucking on! I couldn’t believe how boring baseball is.
/made accurate
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:50 am
He’s have 2 months of bobblehead nights if he played for the Pirates.
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:50 am
It’s baseball, dude. Who has the patience to watch an entire game from beginning to end unless you’re at the ballpark?
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:50 am
oh.
/honestly don’t care
//arod has problems. scary problems
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:50 am
the office is really, really funny.
what is going to be decided in the 3rd-5th innings, anyway?
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:50 am
Weaver was impressive in the 8th
and really? what the f was up with Scott Boras? Someone should have told him to sit the f down. And where was Pat Sajak last night?
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:51 am
i kinda agree that the guy is getting shit on. damon had not hit the ball for an entire month and half until game 3. law of averages will play out. i just want gardner playing.
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:52 am
Ha! If there’s a God, he will make this series go 7. Every single mofo I know claimed this series was over (cough, cough, TBL). Even if the Yankees win, I just want to see their “fans” sweat out a game 7.
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:52 am
@Sparty: He looks really, really bad though. Afraid to swing, praying for the walk. Reminds of Giambi when he first came back after his “parasite.”
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:52 am
hey man, just shows you are not a hardcore yankee or baseball fan for that matter. well, i think we can say that about all sports and you. Vanilla Sky anyone?
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:52 am
Kidding.
The second I saw that THAT AJ was pitching I flipped over to community for a little while.
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:53 am
even at the game i start regretting that i went in about the 5th inning
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:53 am
really? I must have missed the part of the game when MLB gave the Yankees last ups instead of the Angels.
/just being picky

out 8-12 weeks. not good
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:54 am
how did the yanks bat at the bottom of the 9th in anaheim?
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:54 am
Agreed Sparty, Gardner should be playing over Melky.
I think Hinske should be on the roster too, but Girardi wouldn’t be able to overmanage then.
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:55 am
what is going to be decided in the 3rd-5th innings, anyway?
Ummm… I don’t know. Maybe the game?

Phff. I had more fun enjoying the Lakers exciting victory over the Nuggets in preseason basketball. Don’t you dare sleep on DJ Mbenga this year.
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:56 am
I had a Yankee fan friend in college who went on a date during game 7 of the 2003 ALCS.

That is some depressing shit right there.
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:59 am
well, he could have kept hinske on the roster and drop damaso marte. he would still over manage.
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:59 am

He will be sleeping on the bench all year
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:59 am
It was good last night; Pam was a riot – and very over the top
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:59 am
I’m certainly not a hardcore baseball fan, but you have to admire them. They’re going to outlive us all. People that patient have to have low blood pressure.

I loved Jims reaction when he found out Michael was nailing Pams mom.

Unless supporters of the visiting team are leaving the stadium in body bags, your fanbase sucks.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:05 am
And beating up fans who wear the jersey of the opposing team.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:07 am
My wife does. Probably not a good sign for TBL.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:07 am
I was at a Yankee game in the bleachers and this guy got his ass kicked for wearing a Cubs jersey to a Yankees-Indians game.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:08 am
Because that’s as close as the Twins will ever get to a ALCS.
/sickest burn that ever burned sickly
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:08 am
Have to admit, I would not object to seeing any and all Thunderstix popped at Yankee Stadium.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:08 am
who was the Yankee pitcher who threw a pitch across the plate to Vlad Guerrero? Even I knew that made no sense.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:08 am
i actually wasn’t too fond of last night’s episode. thought it was good, but hard to top the wedding episode, seemed almost too over the top for the office.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:09 am
how will the thunderstix get to yankee stadium?
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:09 am
Somebody obviously hacked into TBL’s account and wrote this.
/Me, trying to help TBL dig out of this hole.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:10 am
That’s a shame. Never been a fan of adult jersey-wearers.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:10 am
it’s much better to show you’re a real fan by vandalizing a player’s lawn, to show you care
/Leodis McKelvin’d
@johndewar: definitely a classless move, but a 15 and a 16 year old kid doing that does not equal a fanbase of an entire city of which 90% should be on home confinement
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:10 am
There has to be at least a few devoted Angels fans here that have them. Then again, maybe not.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:11 am
Shoved up the fans asses.
/sorry, just those and rally hankies are retarded.
//although someone on here told me about the steelers towels. Something with a charity.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:11 am
Probably had less to do with the jersey and more to do with the guy.
I was referencing TBL’s post about Green Bay fans being nice to a guy in a Bengals jersey. bsanders was much snarkier than I.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:14 am
have you ever been to a game in philly, jpq?
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:15 am
I think it’s unlikely that game 6 will take less than 4 hours. The only thing longer are college football games involving Notre Dame.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:16 am
That I was. Anyone who ever goes to a game in Lambeau knows why. Heaven on Earth.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:16 am
have you ever been to a game in philly, jpq?
reaaazy: Eagles and flyers, no Sixers or Phillies though
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:16 am
At least you’re not making broad generalizations about a place you’ve probably never been before.
I thought you Buffalo types were supposed to be all “City of Neighbors” and what not.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:17 am
Saw this in the paper today. Some Northwestern students are writing a program that will generate baseball games stories based on the stats.

October 23rd, 2009 at 11:18 am
i’m sure at the eagles game you saw multiple assaults and sacrificing of toddlers, correct?
and the flyers game, that must have been insane i bet there were killings of anyone wearing a sabres jersey, right?

I’v been to Philly probably 10 times in my life. I like the place, the sites, the restaurant, the history. I have friends that live in West Chester, among other suburbs, and it’s great. The people attending sporting events, though, I could do without

One could say the same about most every city.
I would rather have engage in a threesome with Steve Phillips and his manatee than sit with the fans at Heinz Field.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:43 am
Philly fan expressed her fandom by by getting knocked out by Clinton Portis’ mom.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:45 am

/I needed the laugh
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:56 am
I don’t think this was a bad move. Burnett was dealing at this point in the game. Hard to say things would have been better had Hughes started the inning considering he shit the bed big time when he came in.
October 23rd, 2009 at 12:04 pm
What gives with West Chester, where Moleman also has friends when he visited?
Yes it’s a good visit through October for all that JPQ mentioned but the people here are the worst anywhere I have lived or travelled more than once. They are also the most racist I have met anywhere except perhaps in the Deep South as in Macon, GA.
I am lucky now again where I live with a basic affordable furnished place across from a huge park in a very affluent area.

October 23rd, 2009 at 12:16 pm
I’m still confused by all this talk of Nick Swisher being a good player…he has some decent pop in his bat but has been a postseason trainwreck whenever he’s been in there and should be benched, why not have an outfield of Damon, Gardner and Melky Cabrera, surely can’t be any worse than what Swisher’s been doing
October 23rd, 2009 at 12:17 pm

And this:

DOES NOT COMPUTE.
October 23rd, 2009 at 12:24 pm
Swisher had an OPS+ of 125 and 127 the two seasons before his trade to the White Sox. Last year it was 92, but this year it went right back up to 126. That is a very good player, even if it’s one with little to no defensive value. Plus he does the loosen up the clubhouse thing which the JPQ’s of the world enjoy so well. Gardner, in comparison, had a 91 this year, meaning he is shittier than the shittiest Swisher ever. Melky had a 97. As to his post season failures, guys fail in the post season until they don’t. It’s a small sample size. Look at A-Rod’s hot streak, or Bonds when he finally had a good post season. Good regular season players, with enough at bats, becomes good post season players.
October 23rd, 2009 at 12:26 pm
Yes, because watching the Redskins play the Raiders is FAR more exciting.
I don’t have any points, but you deserve some here.
October 23rd, 2009 at 12:29 pm
Eh, it’s possible that I’m completely soured to the guy after his abortion of a season with the White Sox but I still don’t think there’s anything special about him…but he does fart in the clubhouse so I guess that’s something
