leonard-little-st.louis-ramsderek-anderson-cleveland-brownsMost meaningful NFL stat from Sunday: six teams won by at least 28 points. Lost has the Oceanic Six; the NFL has the Sorry Seven this season. They are: St. Louis (0-7), Tampa Bay (0-7), Tennessee (0-6), Cleveland (1-6), Kansas City (1-6),  Detroit (1-5), and Oakland (2-5).

Colts 42, Rams 6 – Combined record of Indy’s opponents: 11-26. The 15-game regular season winning streak will easily reach 17 leading up to Patriots’ game Nov. 15.
Jets 38, Raiders 0 – New York teams beat Oakland 82-7 this year.
Patriots 35, Bucs 7 – Last two wins over winless teams by a combined 92-7.
Chargers 37, Chiefs 7KC has one TD in the last eight quarters, and has the third lowest yards per game (251) in the league. Last year, Todd Haley’s offensive in Arizona was incredible (26.7 ppg, 365 ypg).
Packers 31, Browns 3 – Whatever records there are for QB ineptitude, Derek Anderson is challenging them. The Browns have four offensive TDs in the last 13 games bridging this season and last.
Bengals 45, Bears 10 – Cincy’s 5-2. However, it lost at home to the Texans, were taken to overtime by Cleveland, and stunned Baltimore and Pittsburgh. These are two teams we have no idea how to peg. The Bears are a perplexing 3-3.

sam-bradford-oklahoma-shoulder-hurt-nfl-draftPeter King said that he expects Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford to go in the first half of the first round in the 2010 draft. We thought he was a Top 10 lock. But then we heard he’s going to be out 4-6 months following shoulder surgery, which means he won’t appear at the combine. His 2008 season was one of the best any college QB has ever had, but will anyone be willing to invest $15 million or more guaranteed – which is what Top 10 picks usually get – in Bradford?

King outlined these teams as possibly needing a QB: Cleveland, St. Louis, Washington, and San Francisco.

How could he not add Tennessee? The Titans invested less in Young than Cleveland has in Quinn. It is also difficult not to include Oakland, Carolina and Seattle in the Sam Bradford mix. That is eight teams with a possible need for a QB, and with Bradford having no peer in the senior class, it seems unfathomable that he could fall too far.

calvin-pace-new-york-jetsWe’ll try not to go overboard this week with the Dolphins-Jets rematch set for Sunday. (Though it’s early, the weather looks to be in the 50s or 60s in the Swamp – maybe rain – which is important to hot-dog eating Mark Sanchez). Miami’s crushing loss to the Saints yesterday after leading 24-3 at home late in the second quarter, leaves the Fish 2-4. There is no way that they could recover from a 2-5 start in the loaded AFC to make the playoffs (especially not with the Patriots looming the week after). So it’s must-win for Miami.

The Jets are 4-3 and we firmly believe their shot at the playoffs is on the line Sunday. The major problem is the AFC North, which looks like it has 10-win three playoff teams (Steelers, Bengals, Ravens). That means the Jets must win the AFC East. A loss against Miami would drop the Jets 1.5 games behind the idle Patriots. The two play head-to-head again, but it is in New England in late November, meaning cold weather. It will be a difficult game or Mark Sanchez to win.

mark-dirty-sanchez-dunk-raidersThe player to watch Sunday is Calvin Pace. He’s the idiot who ran his mouth after the loss in Miami. Pace rebounded with a great game against Oakland (three sacks, two forced fumbles). Other names that will be crucial: Rookie Shonn Greene, who rushed for 144 yards and two scores in place of Leon Washington, who was lost for the season and Sione Pouha, the nose tackle who is replacing Kris Jenkins (also out for the season). Miami rushed for 137 yards against the Saints after gashing the Jets for 151. Pouha must be a factor in the middle or “Ricky and Ronnie” will destroy the Jets again.

New York is 1st in the league in rushing (184 ypg); Miami is 2nd (170).
