Bracing for a Pretty Tremendous Week in Sports
Baseball, College Football, NBA, NFL October 27th. 2009, 6:30pm
One of the biggest sports weeks of the year is underway.
Tuesday: NBA season begins!
Boston at Cleveland, 7:30 pm. Shaq makes his Cavs debut. Rasheed Wallace plays first game as a Celtic.
Clippers at Lakers, 10 pm. Defending champs open the season against crosstown rival that’ll be strong this year. Blake Griffin – poor guy.
Wednesday: World Series begins!
Phillies at Yankees, 8 pm. Lee vs. Sabathia.
Thursday:
Phillies at Yankees, 8 pm. Pedro vs. AJ Burnett. High scoring game, right? Pedro hasn’t pitched at Yankee Stadium since 2006. That was back when his fastball was still in the mid-90s. Now, it is in the low 80s. His last outing against the Yankees was a 9-0 loss in 2008.
North Carolina at Virginia Tech. Would have had more value if each team had won their last game.
Friday:
Bulls at Celtics, 8 pm. Rematch of epic 7-game playoff series from May.
Magic at Nets, 8 pm. Vince Carter goes back to the Swamp.
Saturday: Halloween!
Georgia vs. Florida, 3:30 pm. Cocktail party
Texas at Oklahoma State, 8 pm. If the Longhorns don’t slip-up here, might as well pencil them in the title game. Doesn’t look like Dez Bryant will play. Bad news for the Cowboys.
USC at Oregon 8 pm. Winner likely locks up the Pac-10 and remains a fringe contender for the BCS Championship game.
Sunday:
Dolphins at Jets, 1 pm. Loser can forget the playoffs.
Broncos at Ravens, 1 pm. No way the Broncos remain unbeaten.
Giants at Eagles, 1 pm. Giants looking at a 3-game losing streak?
Minnesota at Green Bay, 4 pm. Favre returns to Green Bay.
Yankees at Phillies, 8 pm. World Series, game three, Pettitte vs. Hamels.

October 27th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
Very excited about NBA tonight. Left work early to head to the grocery store to get snacks; everyone was like “where’s the fire?” I say Lebron is on tonight-gotta go. One says to me “Who’s Lebron?”
/need a new job
October 27th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
Why does ABC have to schedule the two CFB games that really matter opposite each other?
The 2:30 games on ABC are complete shit.
Plus, how many people are trick-or-treating and having Halloween parties at that time too?
October 27th, 2009 at 6:40 pm
I will just wait for the next nationally televised Cavs/Lakers doubleheader.
When is that, Friday?
October 27th, 2009 at 6:41 pm
Can’t wait to see Adam Morrison get his ring tonight.
October 27th, 2009 at 6:41 pm
That’s impressive. The only thing I did was bust out my Thurl Bailey goggles.

October 27th, 2009 at 6:46 pm
@ hernia – I haven’t heard Thurl Bailey’s name in so long. Wolfpack memories. Wow.
October 27th, 2009 at 6:46 pm
Actually, in honor of the NBA tipping off tonight, you must jam out to this immediately.
(seriously, no way I’ll ever get over this video)

Caron Butler was drinking six Mt. Dews a day? Good god damn…
October 27th, 2009 at 6:50 pm
Anyone remember Dave Revsine, the Sportscenter anchor? He’s now at the Big 10 network.
Ohio/PSU fans – this is your chance to unload questions.
Anyone else have questions, type ‘em or email ‘em

I miss the NBA on NBC. Their finals intros were legendary.
October 27th, 2009 at 6:55 pm
What a lot of Big 10 football, do ya?
I used to look forward to The Outfield’s “Winning it All” playing ever year after the Bulls curb-stomped another Western Conference team.

John Tesh needs to perform that song at halfcourt during the Finals. Has to.
October 27th, 2009 at 6:57 pm
Great song
October 27th, 2009 at 6:57 pm
Yes, it is on youtube (shitty quality, though).
Couldn’t wait for this moment to come, couldn’t wait for this state to begin…

anyone in college worth a damn? it would be a feel good story if the rockets could win 45 games but we have some tough decisions this coming off season with mcgrady and yao. if they suck, i hope they suck hard so we have a shot at the lottery.
/probably asked 2 months too early
October 27th, 2009 at 7:09 pm
Cole Aldrich. Rockets are gonna need a big.
October 27th, 2009 at 7:09 pm
So much goosebumps crammed into one video. Forgot all about the Eddie Johnson and John Stockton buzzer beaters.
October 27th, 2009 at 7:09 pm
texans mcgrady is gonna be a monster this year. i think he has a player option this year in his deal if he has already decided to option then he will go into beastmode.
October 27th, 2009 at 7:10 pm
KG has the early “I’m in the zone” look.
October 27th, 2009 at 7:11 pm
Blazers v. Rockets…tip less than three hours away. first year of season tickets for me. lots of nervous anticipation for me this season as a Blazers fan but it will be good to watch them play a real game again.
October 27th, 2009 at 7:11 pm
spencer loves that look.
October 27th, 2009 at 7:13 pm
i know this is mcgradys last year on contract. not sure if it is player option. hes supposed to have an mri november 23rd from what ive heard on the local espn radio shows. thats the earliest he could return.
he sounded motivated this off season but that could be easily explained with the contract year. i dont see him being a rocket next year. i think he burnt too many bridges.
the question now becomes do we trade him for some parts or do we let his 20 million come off the book and go after some marque free agents
October 27th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
im rooting for Greg Oden
October 27th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
holy shit, bobby valentine just gave us the reason as to how important kate hudson was to a-rod, in a baseball sense. it was in a roundabout kinda way, but still impressive.
October 27th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
TBL, if you didn’t honestly know that Revsine has been at the Big 10 network (established three years ago) then how can we take your top 25’s seriously?
/can’t blame you. Big Ten has been awful in recent years.
October 27th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
Dear god did you see the Laker championship ring?
October 27th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
who is saying i didnt know Revsine has been at the B10 network? i have it on cable – not everyone does. therefore, the folks who didn’t know where he was … now do.

I CANT STOP FUCKING EATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 27th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
anyone see Simmons on PTI. Enough with the Trevor Ariza myth that he was some stud all season long. He had some nice playoff games, let’s not get carried away here. The guy was not dependable from beyond the arc, was a nice hustler player off the bench. Beyond that, nothing special.
October 27th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
free league pass to catch to non national games. Looking forward to houstons offense
October 27th, 2009 at 7:25 pm
we will find out this season cursed. mcgrady came off the bench in toronto.

/shoulda went on a honeymoon
October 27th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
He was a stud all season. But its yet to be determined as fasr as the 3pt shooting, he shot 47% in playoffs on more three attempts, 80 than he had in his entire career since last year.
October 27th, 2009 at 7:30 pm
Thought Simmons was good on PTI, but he must have used the term “cap space” more than 20 times in his 5 minutes. Cap space is a big in the league, but Simmons acts like it’s everything. Cap space doesn’t do you any good if guy’s don’t want to come or GM’s feel the need to spend just for the sake of spending.

which is exactly why Joe D signed Villanueva and Gordon. he knew nobody on that 2010 list wanted to go to Detroit with all the other options available.

Did the Cavs go with the away jerseys b/c they think it makes Shaq look slimmer?

Is there enough talcum powder there with both KG and LeBron going with their contrived, stolen pregame rituals?
October 27th, 2009 at 7:35 pm
who they steal it from
October 27th, 2009 at 7:35 pm
I hate this website…I’m currently listening to the kickass NBA on NBC theme and have no doubt that this will still be in my head a month from now
Even when it shifted to the more subdued portion I was waiting for that one guy to start in with “Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals between the Chicago Bulls and the Utah Jazz”
October 27th, 2009 at 7:36 pm
Is there enough talcum powder there with both KG and LeBron going with their contrived, stolen pregame rituals?

/Don’t know if they still do that music, I stopped watching when Jordan left.
October 27th, 2009 at 7:49 pm
kobe is the only one with MJ’s serial killer like need to win. lebron doesnt have it yet. IF he gets it look the fuck out. that would be like Nique getting jordan’s brain when he was in his prime. scary

Sweet jeebus. I just read the Heisman post. Terrance Cody?? What the fuck is that about? Dude is a joke.

Here’s my contribution to the early TBL After Dark Roundup. These guys really didn’t want to be foreclosed on
October 27th, 2009 at 8:04 pm
Apparently the NBA didn’t adopt the two step rule. Marquis Daniels just got called for exactly what they said LeBron would be able to do this year.
October 27th, 2009 at 8:06 pm

I would reccomend reading Christopher Browning’s “Ordinary Men.” It is an amazing read, and you get a sense of what it was like to be an “Ordinary Nazi.” Pretty gripping stuff.
October 27th, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Saw that earlier. It’s disgusting. The most troubling part: 15 people watched and said/did nothing.

October 27th, 2009 at 8:44 pm
This thing is awesome, but it sucks to know that Ali had no business fighting Holmes, people knew this, yet they still pushed him to fight and would not give him honest opinions.
October 27th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
Yes it is. He looks in bad shape going into this fight. I remember my great-grandfather saying that after the fact and thinking later on they were making excuses for Ali. I was wrong.
October 27th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
im watching the ali 30 for 30 and you could tell ali wasnt all there physically and mentally. the people who let him fight should all be arrested. that is crazy.
October 27th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
jeez jpq – totally depressing stuff. I can’t wrap my mind around the depravity of this behavior. Ugh.
October 27th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
Too many people with too much to lose if he didn’t fight. Pretty sad.
October 27th, 2009 at 8:49 pm

October 27th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
he looks buzzed in every clip and people thought he was fit to fight? i hope everyone involved with this crap has/had nightmares for the rest of their lives and goes to hell. i dont like to bring race into this but it seems like there were a whole bunch of white folks wanting a last paycheck at ali’s expense. incredible.

October 27th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
I cleaned mine up and now you’re a dude in a jersey, but I can’t tell who.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
if you ever forget the website just go to TBL commenters bill of rights and read the right to remain anonymous
October 27th, 2009 at 9:37 pm
not yours billy
October 27th, 2009 at 9:37 pm
Oh, and dirt, where you here when I was “outed” as a lesbian when I first changed to Marcie? Wow, I’ve lived 44 years and didn’t know I was one.
/guess it was “news I could use”
October 27th, 2009 at 9:37 pm
you’re seriously dating yourself there. At least half the people who comment here aren’t even going to know the Bullets, much less a guy who retired before 1980.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
In Firefox it’s: preferences -> privacy -> click the “ask me before clearing private data” radio button -> clear now -> check the cache button -> click “clear private data”
Not sure how it is in other browsers. It took me longer to write this than it did for me to clear it though.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
Ah, dammit. I’ve done everything that everybody has ever suggested, to no avail. And like msu said, it shows up on other websites, just not this one. Weird.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
taguchi- i have read that there is some rumblings that tna is moving to monday nights. it will either be huge for wrestling or flame out. i hope it is huge.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
@ dirt, see previous comment. I’m old dude, I’m old.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
I don’t even think Marcie was a dyke. It think she was just lonely and wore glasses. Peppermint Patty, dyke.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
JPQ used to love watching The Juice and The Electric Co.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
The weird this is that mine was fine for a year or two, then when I changed it once, it’s never recovered.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
Mike, you use Firefox on an Apple?
October 27th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
@ bsanders – The Electric Company was the show! Morgan Freeman as Easy Reader. Really good times.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
The Electric Co.
movin’ out in a new way…..
/that show was awesome
October 27th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
I do, Dirt — Safari is great but I’ll never give up my Firefox.
Blasphemy, I know.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
you’re seriously dating yourself there.
JPQ used to love watching The Juice and The Electric Co.
damn right, and don’t forget my partying w/ the Juice and Rick James back in the day when I was an underage little whyyyte boy just beginning on The Mission
October 27th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
I was referring to the offensive line, but the show works all the same.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
I only got a Mac about 4 months ago. This thing is fan-fucking-tabulous. It doesn’t matter how many times my wife tinkers with the settings, I can always get them to go back.
And I’ve got like 200 gigs of available space.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
I know I do.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
v4l: Wes Unseld is great. I loved him. I was a huge Buffalo Braves fan (now San Diego Clippers) back then.
They had some great teams: Bob McAdoo, Ernie DiGregorio, Adrian Dantley, Randy Smith. They even had an 18 y/o Moses Malone for about a day
October 27th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
@ Thanks Mike. That worked. I can now see Mr. Unseld
October 27th, 2009 at 9:50 pm
accounting is horrible.
/ is my avatar working?
October 27th, 2009 at 9:51 pm
i see it Pitino. Now please change your name. you can just be the fetus, or something.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
accounting is horrible.
/ is my avatar working?
if it’s supposed to be a tOSU logo, yeah it is
October 27th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
So guys, if you’ve lived your whole life as PC, is it totally crazy to switch to Mac? I want one but people keep telling me how hard it will be to unlearn/re-learn.
Also, DSi or PSP? I want get something to play those mind sharpening games.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
shaq looks like he didnt even bother working out during the offseason. and garnett just missed a dunk.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
I grew up on a PC and didn’t regularly use a Mac until my sophomore year of college. Now, I get pissed when I have to use a PC for something. Well, not really pissed, just cranky.
God bless the Swiss and their delicious fucking cheese.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
Maybe I’ll just change the avatar to Pitino, or a fetus.
Go Mac. You won’t regret it.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
V4L, there’s nothing to learn. You still just use the computer. There used to be things to learn, but now it’s super easy. I don’t know what you do with the computer, but we do regular computer stuff (upload baby pics, send emails, process words, furtively look at naked ladies, etc) and the functions are all just as easy.
The only thing I hate is that my mouse scroller always bogs down.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:56 pm
I went to a Mac in 05, great decision. never had a problem with it once in 4 years, had to but 2 new batteries but that’s it.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Cool. Thanks guys.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Don’t get the black macbook. I don’t know if they’re still selling those but they had a lot of problems. I brought mine in to Apple three times and they finally just handed me a new aluminum macbook (literally, no box, no papers. just the computer and the cord).
October 27th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
for while the black macbooks were $500 just because it was black.
October 27th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
*$500 more
October 27th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
lost in hoops. played poorly. we were down most of the way, rallied hard at the end, lost by 2.
is it just me, or do the Cavs look … less confident? less imposing?
October 27th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
i just switched from pc to a mac last month. like it so far.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Who knew computers had to manage the salary cap?
October 27th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Ohhh… For a minute, I thought you wanted to get the race talk going again.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:03 pm
is it just me, or do the Cavs look … less confident? less imposing?
tbl: i don’t know. I turned it off at 13-2 Cavs and switched back for the score and it was 73-62 Celtics, so they must have shit the bed in between
/wife has on stupid dancing shows on, so I’m doing some work
October 27th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
yea i was concerned people would think that if I didn’t fix it
October 27th, 2009 at 10:06 pm
@jpq, my Mom just called me all aflutter about Michael Irvin surviving the double elimination round tonight. She always roots for the athletes.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:11 pm
@jpq, my Mom just called me all aflutter about Michael Irvin surviving the double elimination round tonight. She always roots for the athletes.
I guess he survived against some skateboarder kid who looked like Bam Margera’s younger brother. I have NO idea what his name is (but his partner was smoking hot). I didn’t even watch the show, but it’s like white noise in the background. If I had seen her earlier, I might have watched the show-lol
October 27th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
The Electric Co.
Also a great song from U2’s first album.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
the skateboarder dropped his partner twice last week. If the judges didn’t boot him, she should have slugged him.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:15 pm
Poalo was in epic-douche mode today. That shit was hilarious. Especially him not being able to figure out cracker jack was a chick. That was good reading, I was glad I decided to catch up on that thread.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:15 pm
My bad – he dropped her twice last night
/bruises still fresh
//still should have slugged him
October 27th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Varejao is going to need to play better. Moon and Gibson need to step up on D. Cavs do look somewhat lost on some sets.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:17 pm
was that the epic 350+ comment thread this afternoon?
October 27th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Well considering part of their arsenal was recovered by the Feds, it makes sense.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Sometimes when I read Paolo I feel like I’m back at Va.Tech in Economics class. Totally over my head.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
speaking of U2, anyone see their concert lately?
October 27th, 2009 at 10:19 pm
how long will gibson keep that hair?
October 27th, 2009 at 10:19 pm
My bad – he dropped her twice last night
/bruises still fresh
//still should have slugged him
he looked like a nitwit
also can’t imagine ‘ole Mike isn’t trying to score with his blonde partner-lol
October 27th, 2009 at 10:19 pm
Bring on Marv and the Czar!!!!
October 27th, 2009 at 10:19 pm
@V4L
Is it just me or are you just about ready to throw a rock through your television everytime McDonnell or Deeds comes on? Cannot stand either of those two.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:21 pm
Did anyone hear that Cheryl Miller interview with KG after the game? I could swear he said to her “you smell good girl”
October 27th, 2009 at 10:22 pm
Did anyone hear that Cheryl Miller interview with KG after the game? I could swear he said to her “you smell good girl”
he used to say the same thing to Reggie
October 27th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
Poalo went off, I mean OFF, about gay people. It was awesome. I disagree with everything he said, but it was entertaining as hell.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
speaking of U2, anyone see their concert lately?
Yes. They just played at the Rose Bowl. And yes, KG told Cheryl Miller she smelt good.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
@Badger, my god yes. I’m so over it.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:24 pm
So that’s Phil’s squeeze. Nice boots.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
Jeannie is adorable.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
The LOGO!!!!!!!!!
October 27th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
OK, really nice boots…
October 27th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
Is it just me or does this Lakers ring presentation need more Joey Buss?
October 27th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
Rick Fox. Yes.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:28 pm
so robert horry what have you been doing since you retired?
eating.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:28 pm
Dr. Buss, nice.
/thought Magic was going to say Jack Nicholson
October 27th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
Jeannie is hot as hell, Worthy is wearing an Old Navy pullover, our greatest player is named Magic Johnson, Jerry Buss has a Hugh Hefner entourage, and Jack Nicholson is always visible on the sidelines. Never been prouder to be a fan. This is the coolest franchise in the world.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
Those rings are awesome. They have the faces of the players etched on the side.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Oh yea, I forgot about The Logo.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
i wonder how difficult it was to get morrison’s mustache just right.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:32 pm
I wanted to see Phil get some butt cheek right there.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:33 pm
Adam Morrison should follow Pau’s acting lead and get himself on Sons of Anarchy as a meth dealer or something.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:33 pm
@ ballz, me too – epic fail on the kiss
October 27th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
Please no creepy shots of Khloe K. tonight, I bet you TNT
October 27th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
it mst suck to have sit through that if you werent part of the winning team but signed on or got traded to them. after the game everyone is playing with them and fawning over them.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
Derek Fisher – awesome.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
MVP!MVP!MVP!
October 27th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
Kobe looks really happy. I think we’re gonna get our asses kicked tonight.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
a.c. greene rocking the baby fro. i bet if it was for charity he would go back to the jerhi curl. someone needs to look into that. for everone’s sake.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
@ballz, I was just thinking the same thing. That smile on Kobe’s face was luminous.
/not a Lakers fan, but think that was cool
October 27th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
i was just hoping kobe would look into a camera and say “fuck you shaq.”
October 27th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
@BallzDeep: If that were true, they would have stuck to the yellow and purple jerseys.
Seriously, those white ones need to go.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
it mst suck to have sit through that if you werent part of the winning team but signed on or got traded to them. after the game everyone is playing with them and fawning over them.
True. Poor Ron Ron. It woulda been funny if they asked both Kenny AND Barkley how it felt to get their rings.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
Agreed. This one had me rolling at work:
October 27th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
Wow Cleveland – I just noticed your avatar.
/cries again
October 27th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
Seriously, those white ones need to go.
Ok. But if what was true?
October 27th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
@ Mike, was that a Paolo comment?
Hilarious
October 27th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Wow Cleveland – I just noticed your avatar.
Hey, what about me? The Mighty Zep!
October 27th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Kenny Smith killing Morrison was great.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
@Ballz, ok, I see you now. I had to squint a little to make out Robert Plant. Nice.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
@Ballz: I was referencing your coolest franchise in sports comment, but wasn’t really serious.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
Adam Morrison should follow Pau’s acting lead and get himself on Sons of Anarchy as a meth dealer or something.
What did Pau act in? And speaking of crystal meth, anyone hear that shit about Agassi? Awesome! He just vaulted to the top of my favorite tennis players list.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
barkley is drunk. “athaladic”? i can handle turrible but c’mon.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
The King of Pop>>Zeppelin
/Even though Kashmir is still the shit
October 27th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
@Ballz: I was referencing your coolest franchise in sports comment, but wasn’t really serious
Oh. Well I still agree. Not a huge fan of the Sunday jerseys. Neither was Shaq. They always lost when they first started wearing them.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
he should be able to go directly to the NFL as a free agent imo.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Pau’s going to be on CSI
/YEEEEEEEEEEEAAH!
October 27th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
@Ballz, ok, I see you now. I had to squint a little to make out Robert Plant. Nice
Thank you. Too bad you can’t see the dragon going down Jimmy Pages leg. They were playing “Achilles Last Stand.” And oh yea, Led Zeppelin crushes MJ like an ant.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
That was quality, Mike. He just repeatedly uses “high hard one” and “bojack.” That’s it, that’s his only material, and to be honest, it’s fantastic.
For anybody who hasn’t read it, check it out. Heart of Darkness is shorter than all of Poalo’s posts.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
Love the bonus of Marvelous Marv and the Czar.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
My boy Andray Blatche blowing up tonight. 20 points on 8/13..told me once he was going to be a “matchup problem.”
October 27th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
my sister is a huge led zeppelin fan. she had a bunch of vhs tapes of their videos and concerts and robert plant’s lead singer bulger is frightening. could his pants get any tighter?
October 27th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
http://twitter.com/citylife80
thats my twitter account. That picture is the backround. Michael Jackson better that Led Zeppelin… You should be ashamed sir. Count the great songs. The musicianship. The albums that are actually good. Not the fans in Africa.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
@cleveland, I do prefer this picture though

October 27th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
I was just reading that 350+ thread from earlier. How much have I fucking missed lately? I always comment a lot during NBA playoff time, usually read everything and as much of the comments as I have time for during the rest of the year, but wtf? NickP got the banhammer? I think I directed my first comment ever at pointing out how much I hated the way he makes his arguments. If he’s gone, I’ll miss him- I can still remember him and cursed at each others throats probably a year and a half ago. Someone tell me what’s happening.
/so fucking out of the loop
//idiot.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Agreed. Since he’s getting completely shafted by an organization that makes Bud Selig look good, let the kid get paid. That said, they clearly won’t allow that.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
How is this not the NBA finals broadcasting crew (I could do w/o Miller Time though)?? Mike Breen has left us with the most non-memorable calls of big moments (Wade’s circus shot against Dallas, and Kobe’s incredible fading, hand switching bank shot last year…both on par with Jordan’s “spectacular move,” but ruined b/c it was Breen and not Albert.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
kobe bulked up. he is a bad dude.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
robert plant’s lead singer bulger is frightening. could his pants get any tighter?
I know. I’m hetero, but he’s a fucking god.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
+ whatever you want BB, that was hilarious
October 27th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Chris Kaman has to be related to Harry Henderson.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Looks like Kobe has really developed that twisting fade that Jordan had late in his career. Only difference is that Kobe developed it 10 years ago.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
nothing’s happening. some dinner party guests are just more rowdy than others.
also, talked to the lawyer today, and i wont be chiming in on the Salsibury-Deadspin thing. There is a chance i get called in to give a deposition, so I’m avoiding it all until after it is settled.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
agreed, sir.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
No one’s bigger in Africa than Toto.

October 27th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
I see what you did there.
I also see what you did there.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
No one’s bigger in Africa than Toto.
Ok, that made me laugh.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Exactly.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Cursed: Totally agree on the announcers. Its a crime Marv doesn’t do the Finals. He’s the voice of the NBA.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
When Zeppelin heals the world and makes this world a better place for you and the entire human race, you come and let me know.
Yea. Things have been going great in The Dark Continent lately.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
as big as kobe is, eric gordon stripped him nice earlier
love watching baron davis. guy has such a slick handle. plus, ‘boom dizzle’ is bad ass nickname
October 27th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
That’s racist?
October 27th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
im a huge zep fan but MJ had what? 40+ years in the music biz? to say zep smashes him like a bug is kinda dumb. and i would say that mj was as talented at what he did than any member of zep was at their craft.page, bonham, plant, jones…yeah mj was as good as they were if not better.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
It makes too much sense to have the best announcers do the games in the postseason. We’ll just have to wait until TNT gets the Finals…. Coulda used Vin Scully over….. well everyone who announces during the playoffs.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
Gracias. See, that was the best part, he just kept going, ang going, ang going, not really responding in any real order. I want to meet him.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
That’s racist?
No, no! That’s Africa’s nickname. I swear! You’ve never heard that?
October 27th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
Yeah right, next thing your going to tell me DC’s called Chocolate City or something.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
im a huge zep fan but MJ had what? 40+ years in the music biz? to say zep smashes him like a bug is kinda dumb. and i would say that mj was as talented at what he did than any member of zep was at their craft.page, bonham, plant, jones…yeah mj was as good as they were if not better
How many songs of his are actually good? And how many of those did he actually write? Or compose? We can argue all night if he was better at whatever you think he was best at(dancing, singing, molesting) than Page was at guitar, or Plant was at singing, or Bonham was at drumming. They’re all virtuosos. Michael was a pop star. Nothing more.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
This East Carolina-Memphis game could use a little Chris Johnson and DeAngelo Williams.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
It was given that nickname long ago before it was fully explored by Europeans. A bunch of white, probably racist Europeans, granted. But it was mysterious. That doesn’t make me racist. Is DC called the chocolate city?
October 27th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
You know what. I don’t want to argue about MJ vs. Led Zeppelin. I like MJ, trust me. It just boggles my mind how people count fame more than actual number of good songs, good albums, musical talent, and musicianship.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
wow that is going on a plaque to be put in the mrejr mansion’s trophy room in the wrongest comments section.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
wow that is going on a plaque to be put in the mrejr mansion’s trophy room in the wrongest comments section
Um, ok. Agree to disagree. And I am honored my words will be immortalized on a plaque in the mrejr mansion.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
But what is wrong about what I said?
October 27th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
Haha.
BallzDeep – DC is Chocolate City and I’m just messin with ya. Just watched the Football team episode of Community. A “That’s racist” just felt right.

ew.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Nothing is wrong with it, but why does ‘pop’ mean not good (which is what you imply).
October 27th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
i know it’s the clippers but the team defense of the lakers is just nasty
Thank you! I’m sick of everyone who doesn’t like the Lakers pointing to Ron Artest off the court and Lamar Odom marrying a Kardashian as the reasons the Lakers will fail this season.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
Nothing is wrong with it, but why does ‘pop’ mean not good (which is what you imply).
Just that he didn’t write lots of his songs, and lip synced, ala Brittany Spears, N’Sync et al. You know, the only groups who point to Michael as a major influence.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
mike was just as good a singer/entertainer if not better than plant was or page was at guitar or bonham was at drums. to not recognize his musical talent shows lack of music knowledge.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
Holy shit. Looks like Josh Powell spent his offseason at Venice Beach getting tatted up.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:35 pm

His is a singer, I did not know writing was a skill that was a proxy for singing and dancing. Not to mention he was what 10 when he started.
No clue about the lip sync thing, is that true?

I’m not saying they’re going to win the title, but I can’t remember a team this versatile on offense and defense. All five of their starters all do positive things defensively (even though Odom gets lost out there, his length is a huge asset when rotating or closing out on shots).
Offensively, again, so very diverse. Four starters who can post (what teams have had that in the last 15 years?). Their outside shooting won’t be anthing special, but Kobe will get everyone wide open looks and he’s the got one of the best mid-range games in NBA history..so they’ll hit shots).
They can pound you inside, or they can kill you in transition w/ their bench even w/o Ariza.
They’re as interesting a team as I can remember.

ok he didnt write every song he did but he sang the hell out of them.and he wrote a fair number of his own songs that were great and hits. you can write the greatest song in the world but if you cant sing it it is worthless.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
mike was just as good a singer/entertainer if not better than plant was or page was at guitar or bonham was at drums. to not recognize his musical talent shows lack of music knowledge.
I do recognize his talent. I was the only one sticking up for him in the Salvation Army when he died. But, he didn’t play insturments. He lipsynced. He didn’t write all of his own songs. And he had two great albums. Zeppelin had 6. And alot more great songs. And they were much more musical. Jimmy Page was an actual producer and composer. MJ had Quincy Jones. But I like Michael Jackson. I have 5 of his songs on my pc.

just to clear it up, the Lakers team have not been Nasty on D and clips are a challenged team. Granted Pau is out.

He was a very good singer. But he didn’t sing live very often when he got older. I think Robert Plant is a much more powerful and versatile singer. I’ll put any band over any singer/dancer any day. Thought I think Michael was the best dancer i’ve ever seen.

cursedcleveland, very intelligent analysis. Except the “i’m not saying they’re going to win the title” part.
October 27th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
MJ is in Songwriters Hall of Fame , Page is not. For what that is worth
October 27th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
and you’re not even counting the hit records and great songs he had when he was carrying the jackson 5? yeah they didnt write their own songs but if you’re gonna count career vs career we should have mj’s whole career

But he just sung those songs. He didn’t conceptualize any albums, didn’t play any insturments, and used the same singing style into his 50’s. The Jackson fucking 5? Really?

October 28th, 2009 at 12:00 am

October 28th, 2009 at 12:02 am
He was signed to Motown as what a 10 year old? yeah, really.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:02 am
and just because he didnt play instruments in his act doesnt mean he couldnt.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:06 am
Oh, ok. Well just because Zeppelin didn’t fucking moonwalk doesn’t mean they couldn’t either.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:08 am
nice, +1

Houston is having trouble scoring points.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:09 am
and just because he didnt play instruments in his act doesnt mean he couldnt.
And that was by far the dumbest thing said during this conversation so far.

Houston is playing?
October 28th, 2009 at 12:13 am

They covered alot of songs and didn’t properly credit the origonal songwriters because they changed the music so much. I read about it in the awesome rock book “Hammer of the Gods”. Look up the shark incident. Awesome. Sex, drugs, and Rock n Roll baby!

yes.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:27 am
Ballz, I just saw your twitter – nice to have another Hispanic on board. It’s been kinda lonely and oppressive.
(sees comments bashing King of Pop and hyping Zep)
A coconut, I see
October 28th, 2009 at 12:28 am
Yes again. before even that, her being pregnant makes you fat. I don’t know how, I just know.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:29 am
Pat Boone. Really?
October 28th, 2009 at 12:30 am
A coconut, I see
Hilarious! Not the first time i’ve been called that. Thought I have lots of other Mexican friends who love Zeppelin. I wasn’t bashing Jackson. Those were facts.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:33 am
I’m not sure Andrew Bynum knows it’s OK to pass the ball once he gets it. Those looping pull through moves on the block are as ugly as ugly gets.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:36 am
The Lakers’ triangle is more like a rhombus right now. Four guys in the paint at all times clogging up the lane and causing the offense to be out of sorts.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:41 am
Ouch, I hope TBL isn’t still riding Greg O-one this year. He was only 3 turnovers away from a double double.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:43 am
cursed, agreed. and the D is nothing either
October 28th, 2009 at 12:51 am
I cannot get over how physical this game has been. Kudos to the Clips for not backing down. Love watching E. Gordan, and Baron Davis has been getting away with the rare triple handcheck all night long.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:06 am
cc, good pass from Bynum there. Too bad he can’t do it from the block
October 28th, 2009 at 1:07 am
Kobe just picked Bassy’s pocket. Sweet play.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:09 am
he ripped the ball away from him because bassy was looking somwhere (in the crowd?), but yes good play
October 28th, 2009 at 1:12 am
Kobe’s had 7 shots that have either been in or out or glanced off the rim. He hasn’t lost a step either it doesn’t look like.

had an interesting dream last night..i and ONLY 2 others were fighting terrorist house-to-house in slums of a crappy city (reminded me of fallujah or ramadi). we walked into a room full of terrorist sleeping on bunk beds so that was like shooting fish in a barrel. i was getting pissed at a mosque for playing a prayer on a loud speaker so i tried to take the speaker out with my m16. that wasnt doing the job and i was running out of rounds so i called an airstrike on the mosque. nothing like 2000 pound jdams to make your day. LOL UP YOURS GENEVA CONVENTIONS!
