Yankees-Phillies: Bud Selig must’ve done a happy dance Sunday night when the Yankees clinched a World Series berth. “… Yankees’ victory drew a 11.4 overnight — translating to 11.4% of TV households in the 56 urban TV markets measured for overnights — as baseball eked out a ratings win over NBC’s prime-time Arizona Cardinals-New York Giants game.” The World Series will have no competition Wednesday and Thursday, and the NFL has pulled its Sunday night game. World Series ratings in recent years have been putrid, but they are certain to improve thanks to a) Big market teams, b) Big “Name” stars. There’s considerably more interest in this series than there was last year with Tampa, and 2007 with Colorado. Hell, there hasn’t been a competitive World Series since … 2003, the last time the Yankees were here. [USA Today]
