Prediction: Yankees-Phillies Will Produce the Best World Series Ratings This Decade
1-liner, Baseball October 27th. 2009, 2:15pmYankees-Phillies: Bud Selig must’ve done a happy dance Sunday night when the Yankees clinched a World Series berth. “… Yankees’ victory drew a 11.4 overnight — translating to 11.4% of TV households in the 56 urban TV markets measured for overnights — as baseball eked out a ratings win over NBC’s prime-time Arizona Cardinals-New York Giants game.” The World Series will have no competition Wednesday and Thursday, and the NFL has pulled its Sunday night game. World Series ratings in recent years have been putrid, but they are certain to improve thanks to a) Big market teams, b) Big “Name” stars. There’s considerably more interest in this series than there was last year with Tampa, and 2007 with Colorado. Hell, there hasn’t been a competitive World Series since … 2003, the last time the Yankees were here. [USA Today]

8 of the last 11 World Series have been decided in either 4 or 5 games.
October 27th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
this is pretty interesting. when the Mets played the Red Sox in the World Series, the Skins and Giants played on Monday Night Football and it proceeded to be the lowest rated game in MNF history.
October 27th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
i’m not tuning in unless the phillies are in a clinching game or it comes down a a game 7, i’ve got lost re-runs to watch.
October 27th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
wait so you’re saying that 2 teams from the most populated cities in america might be good for ratings? way to go out on a limb captain obvious.

Philly is actually only the 8th best media market in the country. Nonetheless, #1 and #8 are good ones to have in your World Series.
October 27th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
America never tires of seeing the Yankees. Until they do…
October 27th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
Baseball sucks. I don’t get to see Glee until this series is over. I hope the Phillies sweep and we never have to see or talk about baseball again this year.
October 27th, 2009 at 2:32 pm
So college regular season games have out-drawn ALCS games. Wow is baseball hurting!
October 27th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
Whatever ratings the Yanks/Phils WS produces will have little to do with the actual cities or their respective media markets.
October 27th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Between thong song and young mc they are driving me away.
October 27th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
ill: I think it will. That 11.4 share was buoyed by a HUGE # in NYC, which helped bring up the total.

I’m just looking forward to seeing Erkel’s mentally challenged brother perform before Game 1
October 27th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
WHAT?!!! The use of Young MC is epic. And I even enjoyed the Thong Song only because I haven’t heard it since the 90’s. It makes me nostalgic. You’re probably 22 and can’t appreciate 90’s music.
October 27th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
Rays and Rockies will do that to a sport.

Yes, I realize all 90’s music is neither ground breaking nor revolutionary, but it’s what I grew up with and loved. So shove it.

90’s is very underrated. id go as far as to say that the 90’s were right behind the 60’s when it comes to most important musical decades in the electronic era.
it’s no wonder that the hepatits laden era called the 70’s is being mirrored by today’s current third trimester abortion they call a music scene.

There’s some good music out today. I wouldn’t call it revolutionary, but it’s still good. Then again, I’ve also admitted I enjoy Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus.
I would like to continue this discussion but I’ve got to go take a 15 month old for a walk.

I can’t stay to discuss, but there are some bright spots on the horizon. You didn’t like Korn’s new album early this year? Volbeat from Denmark kicks ass. All That Remains and Lacuna Coil put out a solid efforts as well, and I’m liking what I hear from Five Finger Death Punch and In This Moment. There are many other bands that I’m withholding judgement from until I hear at least another single or two (Straight Line Stitch, 3 Inches of Blood, Skillet and Cavo to name a few).
October 27th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
Awesome.
October 27th, 2009 at 2:59 pm
There’s no chance this touches the 2001 World Series. People were scared to leave their houses after that and baseball was the refuge that everyone turned to.
Just because this is NY/PHI doesn’t mean that the cultural impact of the biggest disaster since Pearl Harbor won’t trump those markets.

Nanny.
Reminds me of one of the funniest rage-epithets I’ve heard in a couple years.

too late…i already attended the funeral for jazz
Word. I hated jazz growing up because I thought all jazz was the light fluffy Kenny G adult soft rock radio ‘jazz brunch’ shit with titles like “A Summer Escapade”. In college I heard Miles and Coltrane for the first time and my eyes and ears were opened. Pretty much any jazz made in the synthesizer era sucks ass (Wynton Marsalis excluded for obvious reasons).
/Used to listen to “Bitches Brew” while write term papers and chain smoking in college.
