NBA Draft Analysis, Part II
Uncategorized June 29th. 2007, 6:13pmChicago will love Joakim Noah. He’ll be a modern day Brad Sellers. Or something.
So how’s this for an idea: two summer installments of the NBA playoff picture, one post-draft, and one post-free agency. Seems fun and easy and it may spur discussion on a Friday when it seems like everyone is beach-bound. We’ll tackle the East today, and head West Monday.
EAST
Definitely in the playoff mix:
Chicago Bulls – Eventually, someone, somehow will produce points in the paint
New Jersey Nets – Even without VC, we keep them here and yes, it’s mostly because of Sean Williams
LeBron Cavaliers – LeBron goes down and they’re a 20-win team
Detroit Pistons – Billups stays and they stay; Billups leaves and they’re on the playoff bubble
Miami Heat – Wade will need help sooner than later … and Daequan Cook is not the answer
Toronto Raptors – Eastern Conference champs has a nice ring to it …
Washington Wizards – Phoenix East? Minus a warm body inside, of course
Should contend for a playoff spot:
New York Knicks – assuming Zach Randolph’s babysitter does his job
Orlando Magic – Really need a free agent splash, because the draft was blah
Boston Old Men – The window will be ajar for two more years with Allen gunnin’
30-35 wins and a cloud of dust:
Atlanta Hawks – Give the young kids a year or two
Milwaukee Bucks – It’s not about Yi, it’s about Mo Williams … and even then, they’re only contenders
Charlotte Bobcats – J-Rich gives them offense, but Morrison is who worries us
Indiana Pacers – Regardless of what deals are made, these guys stink
Philadelphia 76ers – Totally would have been a contender if not for a putrid, horrible, draft

The boobs at ESPN (Chad Ford to be exact) gave Philly a A grade for their draft picks! Can I have what he is smokin on!

I agree on the Sixers draft.
Glad you enjoyed my video of Noah. God I hate him.

I think the Knicks should move up into the definitely in the playoff mix category. Can’t believe I’m saying this, but Isiah deal, with all the usual “character” qualifiers was a steal. Getting Randolph for two bench players AND getting two more “better fit” bench players back. Absolute heist.

I HATE BILLY KING, and I hate Chad Ford for making him look good

I HATE BILLY KING, now I hate Chad Ford for talking him up

Um, yea, You’re still talking about the Knicks there buddy, settle down. Zeke has made 10 moves that make absolutely no sense whatsoever, so you may be jumping the gun on the slobber on the knobber of zeke fest.
Oh, John Paxon thanks isiah for tyrus thomas and jokim noah as well. *STOMACHPUNCH*

What’s wrong with Thad Young, Jason Smith and Derrick Byars as a draft haul. Those are very good prospects. Philly still has time to address their need for a veteran lowpost guy. What did you want from them at 12? There was no one available at that spot that could be an immediate help to their post game. Al Thornton and Nick Young probably could have helped them the most this year, but Thad Young has the better upside. This team is rebuilding so I agree with taking the guy with the most upside.
I think Sean Williams would have been nice if he had slipped to their second pick, but 12 was too high to gamble. Is that why everyone is upset? Did Philly fans want Williams or a big trade? What’s the deal?

Huh? Who’s slobbering on Zeke’s knobber? Sure he’s made some dubious moves, but this wasn’t one of them. The Randolph trade is great. Also, why is Thomas and Noah a stomachpunch? Thomas has great unrealized potential and Noah hasn’t played a minute in the NBA yet. What was a real stomachpunch is signing Wallace to an absurd contract and losing Chandler and now being desperate for post scoring but Zeke didn’t have anything to do with that.

I hope Detroit makes some moves to get a couple of frontcourt players, because what they have now isn’t gonna cut it. Dumars gets some good players later on in the draft, and his early picks usually suck. So Stuckey better be the real deal.

Randolph is overweight, slow and over-hyped. Both he and Curry can’t play defense. Outside of Curry and Randolph, who do they have? Q? Crawford, David Lee, Nate Robinson. That’s a playoff team?

Dan – Isn’t Thad Young a 3? Isn’t Byars a 6-7 Iggy clone?
To me, they drafted two guys who look a lot like Iggy. That’s not drafting needs. Jason Smith? Eh.
If i was giving out a grade, I’d be a C- or a D+

pardon, KS, I cant even tell if you were supporting zeke, or not. Its a stomachpunch cause the bulls got last years 1st and 2nd picks for eddie, i cant jump 11 inches and have a heart condition that could make me die any instant, curry.
You should have watched the playoffs and the end of the year, unrealized potential is not the phrase i would use to describe TT. Freak? yes, that sounds right. i know noah hasnt played yet, im also well aware that the sun rises in the morni9ng and sets in the evening, but uh, the guy’s gonna be a helluva defender and has the athleticism of TT almost, and is taller.
Desperate is the one word i would never use to describe the bulls either. hence why they havent sold off the team to acquire some asshat from LA. The bulls have a plan and are sticking to it. Zeke just made that plan easy as hell to carry out with his stupidity and knack for being totally dupped.
Tyson chandler sucks, the guy averages 18 fouls per 40 minutes. keep him, i like big ben and what he brings. anyways, the bulls needed to get some money on their roster for future moves. its hard to make trades without any money to make a trade work, ya know, since the bulls guys are all draftees that have signed for the rookie base and then get a lil bump after prooving themselves. unlike the knicks who gave 100 bazillion dollars to steve fucking francis.
