Peering Into Woody Paige’s “Bimbo Brigade” at Cold Pizza
Courts, Legal, ESPN, Media Gossip/Musings June 29th. 2007, 8:45pm
While Denver Post columnist and ESPN talking head Woody Paige attemps to weather the roughest week of his professional career, a nation wonders: are we going to see Woodrow and that silly chalkboard on Around the Horn ever again? We’ve been pestering our sources over at ESPN for information on the developing situation, and most believe the four-letter is going to take the ‘wait and see’ approach with this case, as opposed to calling him into an office and firing him instantly, like they did to Harold Reynolds. As others pointed out on our previous thread, this woman does have a book coming out, so perhaps the timing is a bit curious.
At any rate, here’s what we were able to gather from a source close to the Cold Pizza/First Take set:
“Paige was ALWAYS bringing women to the set. They were always “new girlfriends.” And he had them sit on the set so they can watch him in person. The camera men used to call it the “Bimbo Brigade.” Finally the executive producer went [to] Paige and told him it was a distraction and that any guests were allowed to watch the show from the “green room” but not on the set. He had a hissy fit, called a bunch of the Bristol brass — who by the way are no strangers to sexual harassment cases — but they backed the EP and his babe parade was relegated to the green room.”
The source adds that one of the other ESPN names in the suit, production director Lori Berlin, was “one of Paige’s best friends when he was in New York and spent several holidays with him.” Perhaps this is one reason Paige’s and Crawford’s alleged misdeeds went on for so long.
We’re curious – has Paige been on Around the Horn the last two days? We haven’t been watching. And as always, if anyone out there is hearing anything, drop us a line.

And it’s not like we needed to remind you, but it has been a rough week for the Denver Post.

As a viewer of “Around the Horn”, I can point out that Woody appeared on the shows of June 25th and June 26th this week. He did not appear on the June 27th show before getting pre-empted the rest of this week by U.S. Women’s Open Golf.

I saw him on the show this week but i cant remember if it was yesterday or tuesday.
Is there a dedicated Harold Reynolds sports blog? If not, i think someone should start one, i wish espn didnt turn into such monsters and get rid of the good ones.
Also, can i ask why there isnt great public outcry for bud selig to step down? i cannot understand that AT ALL. THE GUYS WIDELY CONSIDERED A CLOWN

The last time Woody was on Around the Horn was on Tuesday. He make a comment on Tuesday that stated that he was not coming back until he got an apology from Stat Boy Tony! I know they were going to be off this week because of golf but that seems kind of fishy that he would make that comment on Tuesday and then all of this stuff comes out.

HR is not that innocent or that good of a baseball anyalst. Everyone talked shit about how he sucked when he was on bbt, but now everyone was to blow him
June 29th, 2007 at 10:16 pm
The HR/Kruker banter was what made BBTN enjoyable for me to watch. It hasn’t been the same since, IMO. And I don’t mean that in a good way.

yea rim job what are you talking about? Harold Reynolds MADE baseball tonight. that was HIS show. who’s analysis was better? i mean, the guy knew what he was talking about, he played for a long time, all star? i think so, cant remember. he was good, he was the last credible person to appear on the network i feel. Try to remember, when did ESPN become everyone’s enemy? after they fired harold cause they lost all their credibility. you think berman brings that to the table? fuk no he dont. i agree with jam jam
June 29th, 2007 at 10:55 pm
The man never stopped stuttering. He always defened the players no matter what they did. Screw HR bring back Eric Byrnes.
June 29th, 2007 at 11:13 pm
um, ok, i agree, this current, soul-less version is much better, actually, i think the show has only gotton better in every single way since HR left, i mean was fired cause he’s black, i mean, shit man, can you say that? oh well, its there now and i cant take it back. Eric byrnes is fine, but gimme a fricking break, harold was on bbt for like 10 years, he is up there with dan patrick and olberman if you ask me credibility wise, and it doesnt matter if he defended the players, he was accurate with most of his analysis, plus he wasnt a screaming talking head making wild predictions and trying to be in the spotlight all the time, i think he brought an even keeled calmness and reasonable opinion to the 4 letter that it hasnt seen since his removal. i cant wait to see him working again. and, seriously, any comments about selig?

Johnny – not only is selig not going to be fired, but he just got a raise. He make somewhere in the neighborhood of $14 mil a year. Think about that..

Bud Selig gets off on huffing on old women’s crotches.

Let’s note that Woodrow has been down this road before.
From the linked story:
This is not the first time Paige has been accused of sexual harassment. In 1992 he was forced to resign as executive sports editor of the Post after a female assistant accused him of verbally haranguing her and calling her a crude term for the female anatomy during an argument in his office.
The woman, Carrie Ludicke, later reached a financial settlement with the Post and left the newspaper. Paige denied harassing her.

Baseball Tonight is Karl Ravech’s show, if you ask me, though Harold just nearly as important to the show as him. It was best when it was Ravech, Reynolds and Dave Campbell. They also made the best commercials for it.
Steve Phillips is ok, but Kruk is (and pretty much always has been_ painful. At least he’s not writing for Page 2 anymore. If he was looking for a way to make his TV appearances look better, his writing effectively did that…

This is the toxic brew that develops when megalomania, unacountability and not a shred of talent mix. When sportswriters become delusional and think they’re TV stars, diarrehea like this happens.
June 30th, 2007 at 7:27 am
so how do you get rid of him, seriously. baseball is the nationaljoketime, all thanks to budbur fuddlig. isnt he essentially a public servent? couldnt a call for his head bring him out of office and force action by mlb? his reign has brought only a soap opera steroid controversy and bullshit allstar game exhibitions and rampant drug use among players. what am i missing here? federal laws are constantly being broken on his leagues behalf. i think he is a criminal

Another Mike Tirico at ESPN. Tell us something we all do not already know.

Harold Reynolds was a huge part of Baseball Tonight, and the chemistry between him and Kruk was a great thing – which makes the way Kruk shiat on him even worse, but that’s another story. Sounds like Woody was/is allowed to be quite the P.I.M.P. on and around the set of his shows, and even now that charges are a huge story and embarassment for the network and himself, he’s still allowed to not only continue to work but appear on tv? Wow. After seeing how the Reynolds situation went down, you can’t really say w/a straight face that that doesn’t stink. On one hand they fire the guy right away and don’t allow him any rights in the process (you’re supposed to have SOME, albeit not all that many); on the other hand they act as if nothing’s happening at all and conduct is, as always, A-OK. Smooth sailing for Woody and all. It’s a shame cause he’s funny as hell, too.

What doofus print-press suck-up hires guys like Paige and Mariotti and Bayless? Let us puke!

Seriously, is Woody Paige that vital a component to ESPN?
They could put Joakim Noah in his spot on ATH and it would be just as entertaining and insightful.

In Bristol, if you do not MikeTirico a woman, you do not make it on the air. It’s that simple.

J.A. Adande has the “Adande Lounge” while Joakim Noah would have the “Running Man Dance”
