Yardwork: Why Hargrove, Why?

Seattle 2, Toronto 1: Jose Guillen was the hero, homering and getting the game-winning hit – a walkoff single! – as the Mariners gave coach Mike Hargrove a nice sendoff. We’re still perplexed by his departure – did you know the Mariners are just one game behind Detroit for the Wild Card spot? Cincy firing Jerry Narron we can understand. But Hargrove? Shocking.
Texas 2, Boston 1: The baseball Gods keep giving the Red Sox chances to lock up the American League East – seriously, their magic number is like nine or something – but Boston’s offense refuses to cooperate. The Rangers can take three of four in Fenway with a win today.
Los Angeles 5, San Diego 0: Chad Billingsley is nice. Nine strikeouts, three hits allowed, and the Dodgers averted a sweep. The NL West rat-race looks this way: San Diego, followed by Arizona and Los Angeles one game back. Can’t wait for September … when the winner goes down in the first round of the postseason.
San Francisco 13, Arizona 0: Lights out Lincecum struck out 12 in seven innings and picked up his first win since May 12. We’re just putting this together now, but wouldn’t it be rad if Bonds tied or topped the record on Friday the 13th?
Houston 12, Colorado 0: Lance Berkman’s percolating. He hit his sixth homer in nine games and rookie Hunter Pence (potential all-star snub?) went 3-for-4 in his continued quest for the NL Rookie of the Year award as the Astros took three of four from the Rookies.

Are you crying? Over Hargrove?
Nice to see those estrogen pills are working.

I wish I could hold a press conference and quit everytime I “lost my passion” for something.
“I can no longer go to the gym on a daily basis. I’ve just lost my passion for it. I just want to spend more time at home with my bacon and pornography.”

Richie Sexson beat him in a game of “The Bigs” on Nintendo Wii and actually made him uphold his end of the bet.

Hunter Pence continues to get snubbed… first all-star game… and now the Big Lead shorting him a hit (he went 4-5!!).

Maybe Hargrove’s “lost passion” is in the same place Shawn Michaels “lost his smile”.

While you make a decent point about the NL West (they’ve gone 3-9 in the NLDS since its inception), a close pennant race going all the way to the wire can do nothing but good for a team, especially with the NL looking like baseball’s version of the NFC and the Eastern Conference. I think whoever wins that division will go to the Series for the NL.
