Brandon Spikes of Florida Caught on Video Gouging the Eyes of Georgia’s Washaun Ealey
College Football, Video November 2nd. 2009, 10:00amBrandon Spikes, Florida’s best linebacker and a lock to be a 1st round NFL draft pick in 2010, is No. 51. Around the 8-second mark, you can see the tail end of Spikes raking the eyes of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey. Then, Spikes digs into Ealey’s facemask to do some real damage. How can the SEC not suspend Spikes for this malfeasance? [Florida Today, Miami Herald]

November 2nd, 2009 at 10:09 am
He better be glad Spikes found his eyes and not his crotch!
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:09 am
Typical Gator thuggery.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:10 am
Bravo TBL, in all seriousness. You borrow Duffy’s thesaurus?
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:10 am
Which is worse: getting your eyes gouged out by someone who just joined the pile Ray Murda-style, or getting punched in the nuts by a Michigan player after recovering a fumble?
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:15 am
Its football that shit happens.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:16 am
typical michigan thuggery.
then again, do we really care about a team that just got shredded by illinois? the answer? yes…just because michigan sucks and the entire program, from the players to the coaches to the AD to the fans, are one giant fraternity o’ queers.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:16 am
Spikes obviously needs to spend 5 minutes with Tebow.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:16 am
Since it’s the SEC it’s not cheap, it’s hard nosed defense.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:18 am
Lotta good that chokeslam did the Buckeyes that day, falling to a Badger team minus the immortal Jim Sorgi.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:19 am
lee evans!!!
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:19 am
He did after the Miss State game, apparently there was an altercation. Spikes don’t need no jesus.
Whichever one involves a nationally televised game featuring the number one team in the country, duh.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:20 am
SEC football, right there.
They do it in the NFL too… coincidence?
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:27 am
I’m really turning on Mark Richt, used to think he was pretty good, but he’s terrible. That team is nothing but penalties and turnovers, and has been for a while. No wonder they sucked ass last year despite multiple 1st rounders. I hate all the showboating also, guys make a tackle down 21 points and gets up dancing and showing off. Absolutely no control of discipline on that team. UGA is fraud city.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:30 am
The fanbase and local media is starting to turn on him as well. He’ll have to clean house with his staff this offseason to win them back.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:31 am
georgia got waxed because of their HIDEOUS unis.
dawgs…please never wear those again. ever. kthxbai.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:36 am
Personally, I think the downfall for Richt was The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party in 07 where he had the team go nuts on the field after the first score. It was a cool symbolic image, but I think it took away from who he was as a coach. Before that Richt was a pretty stoic disciplanarian, and after he’s just let the patients run the asylum. Your better of staying true to who you are, then letting the AJC convince you that you need to be more like Urban Meyer.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:37 am
I know a couple of UGA fans that actually liked them. Then again, they are UGA fans, so take that with a giant rock of salt.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:39 am
Richt has always been garbage. His teams are undisciplined as hell, always have been. He’s Fulmer light. Loads of talent, no control and no results.
As for Spikes. Fuck that guy. I saw that happen in the game and I was blown away. I hoped it would be talked about.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:40 am
UGA will be fine. They are in between QB’s, and Richt was hoping Cox could manage the game with a running game, but the O-line is weak. Next year they will be loaded on offense. The big question is the defense. The big “if” is whether Martinez is gone or not. If Richt can stomach firing the best man at his wedding, a new staff should help a ton. UGA wins 9-10 games next year easy, and all of the UGA is falling apart talk is gone. They are in a transition year this year, no doubt about it and the defense has must be changed, but the offense will be fine. It’s just one of those years.
As for Spikes, I don’t care if that stuff happens at the bottom of piles or not. He was caught on video doing it, and he should be suspended. Simple as that
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:43 am
I want Tech to make a BCS bowl and play Florida. Watching them get there assed kicked will hopefully remind them that two years and 20 wins a program does not make.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:43 am
there = their
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:44 am
Unfortunately for you we’ll probably get Notre Dame.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:44 am
It is hard to judge them when you have a QB as horrendous as Cox. He’s UGA’s answer to the GT “Reggie Ball years”.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:46 am
Really drinking that cool aid Gods. I assume AJ Green is gone, so what exactly makes your offense “loaded” next year. You had the #1 QB, #1 RB, and two great receivers last year and it got you a whopping 9 wins.
I dont care what talent you have when you can’t go 2 minutes without a ridiculously stupid penalty.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:48 am
You’re right, but it is easier to scream that the sky is falling as opposed to looking at Aaron Murray who owns almost all of the state of Florida’s passing records.
I think the Irish drop another game, but if they do play Tech, I know I will be a big Tech fan. Fuck the Irish.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:51 am
Seeing as how AJ is a true sophomore, I think it would be crazy to see him go early. Murray is going to be a badass. Orson Charles at TE, Marlon Brown, AJ Green and Tavarres King at WR should be sweet. Ealey at RB will be great and UGA will have a stronger o-line (unless injuries hit them…again). The big thing is what happens on defense. If the same staff is there, nothing will change and the offense will have to score 40. But there is talent on UGA’s defense, but the coaching is killing them.
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:57 am
You assume wrong.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:00 am
GOTG…man, the SEC East is going to be loaded next year. I think UF, UGA, UT, & SC could all be Top 15 teams next year.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:01 am
AJ can’t leave, so we have him for another year. They have tons of talent on the offensive side of the ball but they have a fucking retard at the most important position. What sucks is they have to go through the learning curve that Aaron Murray will have (read: Richt, play him now). All in all, it is not the offense that I am worried about next year, it’s the defense. It is, quite possiblty, the worst use of talent I have ever seen.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:03 am
Tennessee won’t have a QB and the defense will lose a ton of talent. Florida loses a shitload as well, but they are Florida, so they will still win 10 games. I am not sold on SCAR. They don’t have the depth. I think the East will be down. The West, on the other hand, will be ridiculous.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:05 am
Thats the most ridiculous thing ever written on the internet, congratulations.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:07 am
You’ve never met Paolo.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:08 am
Good thing for UGA, we get Miss State, Arkansas and Auburn. All told, you can’t ask for a much better slate of West teams.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:11 am
You don’t read much, do you?
And I stand by the statement.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:13 am
i tried to put in a more ridiculous statement, but the filter ate it.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:17 am
The SEC will be loaded next year, but there’s no way they have 5 teams in the Top 15 at one time.
Good thing for UGA, we get Miss State, Arkansas and Auburn. All told, you can’t ask for a much better slate of West teams.
That’s an insanely fortunate draw. Dodging both LSU and Bama (fuck Ole Piss), wow.
If UT gets ANY QB play next year, they will make the biggest jump in the SEC. I’ve been really impressed with their team this year.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:25 am
+internet points
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:26 am
You can’t win in the SEC with a true freshman QB. Tennessee will lose a lot on defense and on its o-line. I think they win 7-8 games this year and next year. Year 3 will be when they break out.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:28 am
Don’t forget Vandy!
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:30 am
GotG - You think Richt should burn the redshirt on Murray? That seems to be the prevailing wisdom.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:31 am
You can’t win in the SEC with a true freshman QB.
I never said they’d win the SEC next year, just make a larger forward stride than any other SEC team.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:34 am
You might as well. He will get 5 games (assuming they make a bowl game). That should help take away from the issues that a new starter has to deal with. Look at it this way, Cox is done. When they pulled him, in favor of Logan Gray, that was it. Gray showed why he hasn’t been playing QB, so what other option do you have?
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:37 am
He should have burned it after the Tenn game. Now? I don’t know. UGA has 4, most likely 5 games left. I think they probably should to get him experience so they don’t have growing pains next year (or at least not as many of them). It was a mistake not playing him against Vandy in my opinion.
I didn’t say when THE SEC, I said win IN the SEC. Playing a true freshman QB will get you killed. Tennessee has Florida, Bama, at UGA, at SCAR next year. Not good for a true freshman.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:42 am
Am I the only one who thinks UF takes a HUGE step backwards next year? Bama will be the team to beat next year, in the SEC and the nation.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:44 am
Thought I’d pipe in, but what exactly are we losing on defense? We lose McCoy and most likely Berry, but otherwise everyone is back. And a lot of new studs coming in from recruiting. I’m not sure I buy that statement. Plus we have another year of the current guys in Monte’s system. If anything, I think we’re better on defense next year. And we’re damn good now.
As for the Freshman QB statement, that’s definitely the Big question mark, but I don’t think that will be the case. There’s a good chance Stephens will start next year and manage the game, a la McElroy at Bama, at least until the Freshmen are ready. With Bryce Brown at Tailback, we should be alright. The offensive line will be a big question mark as well.
And we always have Florida, Bama, UGA, and SC. And SC is a joke. We own them.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:44 am
I could see it. They are going to lose so much to graduation and the draft on both sides of the ball. I could see 3-4 losses.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:47 am
You lose 6 starters on defense including your best DT, LB and DB. 4 of 5 offensive lineman are gone.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:47 am
And Gods/dwalthi: I feel for you guys. Seriously, your team is exactly like ours was in Fulmer’s last years. I’m sure you’ve heard it now, but you guys have loads of talent, but tons of penalties, off the field issues, poor execution, poor gameplans, etc. etc. This is at least the 3rd year I have seen this from Georgia. I don’t think Richt will be there in 2 years.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:47 am
I remember when that was said about a certain 5th year, red haired QB before the season started.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:50 am
I forgot about Dan Williams, but that is only 3 true starters (Wes Brown starts, but he only plays half of the snaps, if that). As good as Berry is, I don’t think we’ll lose much in the secondary. Our secondary is ridiculous, and Janzen Jackson is absolute stud. Seriously, I think our D will be better next year. We’ve had a ridiculous amount of injuries at LB this year.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:51 am
Ha. Well, Crompton is doing the same thing this year, with mixed results. I think our running game/defense is a lot more suited to actually do it though as opposed to UGA, no offense.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:52 am
The difference is Richt is landing QBs. UGA will be fine and Richt will too. This is the only bad year he has had in his 8-9 years at UGA. People just need to calm down and realize that they are rebuilding and they have a very bad QB. It is what it is. Now, if they are still god-awful next year, that is a different story.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:54 am
No doubt. UT has a better o-line and a solid back in Hardesty. UGA lost two of its best lineman after the first qtr of the first game. Just shitty luck.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:55 am
It is strikingly similar. Who knows, if Richt makes the defensive changes that he needs to make, maybe this will be a bad three year blip on the screen. If not, nobody is safe forever.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:57 am
They went to the Sugar Bowl in 07, won 10 games in 08 and are having a bad year in 09. Not the worst 3-year stretch. People need to calm down.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:57 am
Yeah, this is Richt’s first “bad” year, but he has had quite a few underwhelming and mediocre years. A la Fulmer. And those were years with a lot of talent on the field. Just saying. There are a lot of similarities.
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:00 pm
At the very least, I think we can all agree that Spikes is a total pussy and should be suspended. Also, Florida is going to take a massive step back when Tebow leaves and Urban has to actually coach a team.
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:00 pm
Anyone know if Gameday will go to Bama-LSU or Ohio State-Penn State?
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:02 pm
Just to clarify, I don’t think Richt is going anywhere, nor does he need to. He, simply, needs to make some some adjustments that have needed to be made for a couple of years now. We shall see.
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:03 pm
I just don’t see it. Fulmer went 5-7. Richt is going to go 7-5 at the worst before the bowl game. Say they get some shit team in a shit bowl. They go 8-5 with a terrible QB and a bitch of a schedule and the cupboard is full coming back on offense. I think they are fine, but that is contingent on the defense getting better. If Martinez stays on, I don’t see anything changing. In my opinion UGA needs an entire staff remake on defense. LB, DL and DB coaches need to be replaced. Sadly, I don’t see that happening.
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:03 pm
They’ll probably go to Cincinnati or Boise St or some shit. I haven’t understood Gamedays venue choices this year at all. It must be the economy.
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:04 pm
They’re going to Air Force as part of a salute to the military.
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:05 pm
Most likely OSU vs Penn State but we all know where it should be.
/ducks under the table
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:06 pm
Gods: I don’t think you’re at 7-5 yet. Granted, you’ll beat Tenn Tech, but Kentucky, Auburn, and definitely GT are all very loseable. I think 6-6 is very likely. I’m just looking at it from an outside perspective. I’ve been in the same boat.
And while I agree that the defense is the problem, you guys really have a ton of bad penalties on offense. Frustrating, fundamental type stuff. It’s not all defense. Plus you guys have no running game whatsoever.
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:08 pm
Ha! See!
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:09 pm
The o-line has been the biggest led-down, moreso than Cox. But they have lost so many due to injury. It has been a perfect storm this year. Stuff schedule, awful QB play, awful defense. Again, it’s just one of those years.
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:11 pm
I hear you. I know you guys have the talent, because we wanted a bunch of the guys currently on your team. I’ll just be interested to see if the discipline can be there. Plus of course what would seem to be a new D-coordinator next year.
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:15 pm
UGA should have a DC that teams fight after every off season. No one is knocking down Martinez’s door. That should tell Richt something. They have a lot of talent, and a lot of it is young, but if Willie is still there, nothing will change. It’s one of those things where a change needs to be made because sometimes that is all that can be done. Willie has been there 5 years and they have not gotten better. A good DC who plays aggressive ball would make UGA a solid team. Very solid.
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:19 pm
I am in no way justifying Spike’s actions, but I have never seen a team talk as much trash while getting their asses handed to them as the Georgia players did on Saturday.
Spike’s should definitely be suspended for the SEC Championship game.
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:22 pm
Yeah, it was lame on their behalf, but Spikes is a punk who will get what he deserves. He should be suspended for at least one game, it not more. That was some bullshit right there. Dude is bitch.
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:27 pm
Looks like Urban took a hard stance*: Spikes has to sit a half against Vandy
*sarcasm
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:31 pm
That’s fucking laughable. Meyer is such a fucking hypocrit and a bitch. Unreal. Can’t wait to hear Florida fans defend this.
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:37 pm
at most he should get a game. who cares if he plays, its vandy. good timing on his part.
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:37 pm
This is where, if Slive wasn’t such a sheep, he would step in and do what’s right. Of course he won’t, but he should.
November 2nd, 2009 at 1:52 pm
Video is gone.
