A Brief Brett Favre Reminder
1-liner, NFL November 2nd. 2009, 5:15pmBrett Favre: Saw that Peter King wedged Brett Favre into the MVP race today. There’s no question Favre has been impressive this season and he’s one of primary reasons the Vikings are 7-1 and Super Bowl contenders. But is is worth noting that last season, Favre peaked in weeks 10-11-12. In wins over the Rams, at New England and at Tennessee, Favre had a QB rating over 100 in each game and five TDs vs. one INT. The Jets were 9-3 and thought to be Super Bowl contenders. You know how that ended. Yes, things are different in Minnesota – only one trip west (at Arizona) late in the season, Adrian Peterson in the backfield, and a defense that leads the league in sacks – but a late season implosion wouldn’t surprise us in the least. In fact, we expect him to flounder – perhaps in Chicago – and the inevitable “too old?” columns to surface. [Grading Favre]

They will have the division wrapped up by the time they play Chicago. He may not even play.

ESPN’s MVP: Ted Thompson

Their defense has a weird habit of getting lazy in the second halves of games…they were lucky to escape against Baltimore and the Packers weren’t good enough to complete the comeback but still they make blowout wins closer than they should be
Helps that their secondary isn’t very good so if you slow down their rush odds are someone will be open

Bingo

that would be too awesome for words.

To be fair, Winfield was out. It’s another animal when he’s in there.

Also, their safeties are two guys named Madieu Williams and Tyrell Johnson. Yes, those are their real names, and they actually exist. I never thought I’d miss Darren Sharper.

I thought the same thing a few years ago when he left Green Bay thinking the team would be better off…and then Marquand Manuel happened
November 2nd, 2009 at 5:33 pm
Haha yeah. If Tyrell ever gets his head on straight I think he’ll be good. Madieu shows flashes and is a good hitter but meh. Not a fan.

The only chance he plays in Chi is if they are in the hunt for home-field advantage which is possible seeing their schedule is very easy.
I think the most likely outcome to their season isn’t Favre imploding, but “Chilly” coaching defeat from the jaws of victory. For such a hyped up game yesterday those might be two of the worst head coaches in the league right now.

You can repost this after Brett Favre throws a backbreaking int in the NFC championship and Sharper runs it back to the house.

I feel your Marquand Manuel pain.
November 2nd, 2009 at 5:35 pm
Brett Favre is still playing?
November 2nd, 2009 at 5:38 pm
I didn’t want to say it, but this is exactly right. I fear Childress far FAAARRRRR more than a Favre implosion.
November 2nd, 2009 at 5:40 pm
I have no idea why he would implode in Chicago, if he did play. Bears are horseshit, and Favre woould have several minutes to find receivers each play
November 2nd, 2009 at 5:42 pm
favre is leading for mvp right now. more tds, fewer ints than manning and brady.
November 2nd, 2009 at 5:42 pm
I would fear the Chilly contract extension talks as well.
November 2nd, 2009 at 5:44 pm
Sadly, it’s a foregone conclusion. He’s in year 4 of a 5 year deal, so barring a complete collapse this season (not impossible), he’ll get a 3 or 4 year extension sometime in the next few months.

Time for a brief review, here. I think most here have no problem with BF if he can still get er done. More power to him. Most have a problem with the way he’s waffled and held teams hostage and sniffed and sobbed. He showed last year he can get it done for awhile but suck eventually. this could still happen this year. Did I cover it?

2007…dude no longer wants to play in poor weather

My two biggest surprises of the year are that Denver is 6-1 and Brett Favre is killing it in Minny. I gotta give him props. He is, AT LEAST, in the conversation between he, Manning and Brees at this point.
Who knows in 10 weeks how it will look, but right now, he would get some votes, deseredly so.
November 2nd, 2009 at 6:13 pm
Should he be getting the votes or should AD be getting them? Or Jared Allen?

By this logic, his o-line could get a few votes. He’s been pretty accurate, though many of the hook-ups seem to be the kind that you can;t believe the DB didn’t get a hand on that or INT it. threading the needle is a pube away from turnover

vezina,
I’m of the camp that believes that the quarterback gets too much credit and too many MVP votes.
Take Brees for example. He is the man, but he is not the reason why the Saints are taking it to another level this year. He puts up the same numbers year after year. The difference this year is Darren Sharper coming in and bringing stability and credibility to their once-horrific secondary. He deserves a lot of MVP consideration too.
November 2nd, 2009 at 6:47 pm
Favre should get MVP votes, and Jared Allen should be Defensive Player of the Year (so far)
November 2nd, 2009 at 6:51 pm
MVP: Carson fucking Palmer.
November 2nd, 2009 at 6:59 pm
Jay I’m with you on all that. there’s the world of what should be and the world of who the media blows. you could make an easy case for o-lines on great teams to share MVP trophies. nuthing happens without the uglies
November 2nd, 2009 at 7:55 pm
If MVP could be any player:
1. Darren Sharper
2. Adrian Peterson
3. Kyle Orton
