Bill Walton is Retiring from Broadcasting
1-liner, Former Athletes, Media Gossip/Musings November 2nd. 2009, 1:45pmBill Walton: He is retiring from broadcasting. The former college basketball star at UCLA who had a very good, injury-plagued run in the NBA, is citing back problems as the reason. He’ll be missed. We maintain that the best NBA announcing trio in the last decade was Marv Albert, Snapper Jones, and Bill Walton. Here’s an example. And here they are in the 2002 Western Conference finals. You’ll be missed, Bill. “Throw it down” in retirement. [SBD]

Best trio? Yes. Best duo? Kevin Harlan and Trent Tucker. Nobody else comes close.

This is the biggest news in the history of western civilization.
/Love LOVE Bill Walton. If you haven’t seen HBO’s doc on John Wooden and his UCLA dynasty, it’s amazing. Walton had some eye opening things to say in it.

My favorite Walton moment was a couple years ago. I was flipping through and the Nets were playing someone and Bostjan Nachbar flopped and Walton goes “That is ridiculous. Don’t flop. That is pathetic. It should be a crime.” Tirico starts chuckling and goes “A crime? What kind of crime would it be?” and Walton goes without missing a beat..”A crime against human decency.” I was dying.

is Harlan the “flamethrower!” guy?

I used to love watching Bill Walton and Screamin A go back and forth on ESPN

Wow. Sucks for the NBA. Walton was outstanding. He was great with Costas back in the NBC days too.
Can we get Bob Costas back to calling NBA games?

I stopped caring about NBA broadcasting when the NBA left NBC.

A couple of years ago he was doing a Lakers game, and after a bad pass by his Luke resulted in a turnover, Bill unleashed this gem: “teerrrrrible pass by Walton. I have failed him as a father.”

+1 hugh. That is funny.

Isn’t Harlan “WITH NO REGARD FOR HUMAN LIFE!!!”… love that shit.
November 2nd, 2009 at 2:48 pm
Love(d) this call from Harlan…
Harlan is the tits on the NBA. His “right between the eyes” and ” ____ is an assassin!” is the shit, too.
Also, Bill Walton never really did it for me. Too much hyperbole and weirdness, probably from all those drugs he did.

not sure if my sarcasm meter is broken or not but bill walton is my least favorite nba announcer, maybe of all time. and I was just talking about this at lunch.

Favorite Walton moment: Vladimir Rodmanovic was hitting a bunch of threes one game for the Sonics and Walton says: “When Michaelangelo was painting the Sistine Chapel, he was struck by a bolt of lightning, and the end result was Vladimir Rodmanovic”.
Close second: “Robert Horry is the greatest inbounds passer of all time”
