Rudy Gay: The Memphis Grizzlies’ dunking machine couldn’t come to an agreement with the team yesterday and will become a free agent in the summer of 2010. He wanted $12 million a year because that’s what Danny Granger of Indy received; they were offering $10 million, tops. After three seasons, Gay has career averages of 16-5, which were dragged down by his rookie season. Only 23, he could probably be a 20-7 guy for the next 5-6 years. Think Richard Jefferson. Problem is, the Grizzlies need his defense more than his scoring, and if you ask OJ Mayo, Rudy doesn’t play any. With Conley, Mayo, Randolph and Gasol, the Grizzlies will be fine. The only question left - trade Gay this season, or just let him walk? [Yahoo]
