Cole Hamels vs. Brett Myers
Baseball November 3rd. 2009, 1:55pm
Brett Myers, the biggest douche on any postseason roster, picked a fine time to rib his teammate, 2008 World Series MVP, Cole Hamels, last night after the Phillies beat the Yankees.
Brett Myers in the clubhouse to Hamels: “What are you doing here? I thought you quit.”
Hamels: [Expletive.] (Guesses: Bleep you? Eat poop you wife-beating bastard? Go trip on another one of your kid’s toys you idiot drunk?)
According to Yahoo’s Tim Brown, the situation was diffused by a Phillies official. Supposedly Myers was “kidding” and he has since apologized. Myers’ explosion likely stems from this curious Hamels quote after his game three struggles: “I can’t wait for it to end. It’s been mentally draining. At year’s end, you just can’t wait for a fresh start.”
In an effort to keep things balanced … this one’s for the Phillies fans. [WSJ]

Myers: You’re retarded
Hamels: You’ve used that one already. Oh, OK. Can you spell ‘retarded’?

Those Hamels quotes are out of context. He said that right after saying he wanted the ball for game 7.

Yeah Leslie Gudel on Comcast Sportsnet said she was standing right there and that they were joking. Yahoo seemed to be the only ones who ran with this this morning.
Yeah and what lefty said about the Hamels quote. Classic case of not reading the whole story, or taking the last line someone says and making that the headline.

Aren’t you going to ask me how my day was?

if they don’t use happ tomorrow i’d prefer happ in game 7

I think they’ve got to at least try with Hamels first. Hamels when he’s good is a lot better of an option than Happ. I just think you have to give him a quick hook because when Hamels has fallen apart, he has done so very quickly.

Erroneous.

The opening line. Wow. Just, wow.

I am 100% serious when I say this.. if Brett Myers was hit by a truck tomorrow, the world would be a better place. And the same goes for Tom Cable. “Men”(and I use thast term in the loosest sense) who hit women are nothing but fucking cowards and shouldn’t be allowed to function in society.

Why let facts get in the way of a good story?
Appropo of nothing: Mrs. Cole Hamels (on the bottom…not so safe for work)

Their payroll is only $208 million. Girardi is doing this with smoke and mirrors.

Really? The WSJ article doesn’t really say anything Yankee fans don’t already know and the post pokes fun at dysfuctional opposites on the Phillies. Maybe I just can’t connect your dots, TBL.

Joboo i’m not totally against throwing hamels out there with a short leash, i just don’t get why our most consistent pitcher this year has faced about 6 batters in the whole playoffs. Hamels has been horrible. Why not try happ, you can always bring in hamels in long relief if happ isn’t good.

Apparently ARod and Pedro are no longer on the post-season rosters.

Well, in all fairness, he is a foreigner. No self-respecting, flag-waving, baby-loving, apple pie-eating American would ever do that, right?

no, we’d shoot it.

Joe Nathan for Cole Hamels.
November 3rd, 2009 at 3:02 pm
For the same reason you start Pedro over Happ. If the worst case scenario happens, you at least know Happ can come out of the bullpen and be fine. He’s done it before and he can likely handle the mental side of doing it more than Hamels…or, at the very least, how Hamels will handle it is an unknown.

How was Cole Hamels not in School Ties?
