The Roundup: Cavs Tough Start Continues, Chase Daniel Gets in Twitter Altercation with Kansas Fans

Kate Beckinsale … this Fort Hood massacre is terribly sad … good read on the never-ending debate about anonymous commenters on newspapers articles … Obama and golf, try to keep it civil … well, this is really depressing for a Friday morning … video of an inmate attacking a prison guard, and other inmates come to the guard’s rescue … clinic tells man he is too obese for human x-ray machines, and that he needs to go to the zoo – he refused, and later died … really strong, potentially polarizing piece about the lack of leadership in our country at every level …

That german guy didn’t die because he wouldn’t get an X ray at the zoo, he died because he was carrying 5 bills around in his 50’s.
That happens more than you think with people, especially with MRI machines. They just don’t fit.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:05 am
Yeah because huge crybaby bitches do well in the NFL.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:06 am
Parcells is not even remotely a solution for the Redskins…Parcells is fine if you want to make your team decent, but otherwise, nope.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:07 am
The guy who wrote that Obama thing is clearly a racist.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:08 am
i cant comprehend 500 pounds on a person. you cant tell me you have a thyroid problem or some kind of other disorder. you’re lazy and you’re a hog.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:08 am
“I’d offer, but my dad’s kinda racist.”
November 6th, 2009 at 9:09 am
The media’s coverage of the Delonte West mess
never knew he lashed out at reporters recently. I watched the Bulls game last night. Are the Cavs at full strength right now?
November 6th, 2009 at 9:11 am
The most sophisticated Americans, experienced in how the country works on the ground, can’t figure a way out. Have you heard, “If only we follow Obama and the Democrats, it will all get better”? Or, “If only we follow the Republicans, they’ll make it all work again”? I bet you haven’t, or not much.
This is historic. This is something new in modern political history, and I’m not sure we’re fully noticing it. Americans are starting to think the problems we are facing cannot be solved.
That article is very sobering. I can’t name a single person I’ve talked to recently that has faith in our political leaders.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:11 am
Oh Yankee fans. So glad their 9 long years of suffering are over.

sadly yes…delonte i guess you could call not 100% with his mental shit…but no one is out with an “injury”
November 6th, 2009 at 9:15 am
wtf, i thought the shooter was killed.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:16 am
Gems. This show gets funnier and funnier every week. I’m definitely sold.
Parks, on the other hand, is a hopeless cause.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:16 am
@Mattryan: i had the same thought when reading the piece. it’s sad, but in our current information age, is it all that surprising?
November 6th, 2009 at 9:17 am
Like I’ve said before, no way Delonte should be allowed to play..sitting their with felony weapons charges and his unstable mental capacity. How is a bigger deal not being made of this? Just b/c “basketball seems to be his best medicine?” What? That’s pretty convenient right?
November 6th, 2009 at 9:17 am
@ bsanders
I’ve been saying ‘Tampon Time’ for a few weeks now. I’m really impressed with that show.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:17 am
Thats how you celebrate. That Gary Glitter song reminds me of the Bulls Championships.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:18 am
Per the article:
In the confusion of a day of wild and misleading reports, the major and the officer who shot him were both reported killed in the gun battle, but both reports were erroneous.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:18 am
Parks, on the other hand, is a hopeless cause.
I always watch this one first, so it’s out of the way. What a shitty show. The #1 problem is Amy Poehler, too.
I do the same thing with Cougartown. I watch it, and save Modern Family for later. Please don’t ask me why I watch shows that I think are terrible, because I really dont’ know.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:18 am
man…my brother just got out of jump school in fort benning…i can only hope he doesn’t get stationed in fort hood…isn’t this the third time something like that has happened there?
November 6th, 2009 at 9:19 am
In a way, I think that’s good. People need to stop looking to career politicians to solve their problems. It’s become apparent that even Barack Hussein Obama is not, in fact, the messiah…but simply a community organizer with good PR and a well-thumbed copy of Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” in his coat pocket.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:20 am
They don’t feel anxious, because they never had anything to be anxious about. They grew up in an America surrounded by phrases—”strongest nation in the world,” “indispensable nation,” “unipolar power,” “highest standard of living”—and are not bright enough, or serious enough, to imagine that they can damage that, hurt it, even fatally.
yessir.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:20 am
How is a bigger deal not being made of this?
Tony Kornheiser agrees
November 6th, 2009 at 9:21 am
i watched the first episode, didn’t laugh for the first ten minutes and turned it off. bsanders is right, Amy Poehler is terrible. don’t know why people think SNL cast members are funny outside of SNL when SNL isn’t even funny.
modern family, even on a down week, is still by far the funniest show of the week.
getting pissed with flash forward. i want to like it, but it’s not doing itself any favors lately.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:21 am
That was A-Rod….but that wasn’t Kate Hudson…
November 6th, 2009 at 9:22 am
Nobody calls him “the messiah” except right winged pricks who are trying to push propaganda.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:23 am
It’s because you don’t have a job.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:23 am
Cool. It would be a shame if the Yankee staff came down with Steve Blass Disease. You know, as he wore #28 for the Pirates.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:24 am
Its pretty clear LeBron is leaving Cleveland, Right?
November 6th, 2009 at 9:24 am
Nobody calls him “the messiah” except right winged pricks who are trying to push propaganda.
bravo, tampa.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:24 am
I’m the same way…if I decide to follow a show, I generally stick with it, no matter how bad it is. See e.g. the latest incarnation of Melrose Place. Beyond terrible. But I haven’t missed an ep yet.
As for Parks, you are right, Poehler is the prob. The supporting guys are pretty funny, and, of course, Rashida Jones provides the requisite eye candy. In fact, I suspect she is the reason we keep tuning in.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:25 am
Jay V = TBL?
November 6th, 2009 at 9:25 am
It’s because you don’t have a job.
That’s got to be a contributing factor.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:25 am
This
November 6th, 2009 at 9:25 am
I did this with The League the first week, but last night I only made it three minutes. Vagina hubris? No thanks, frat boy writers’ room. Modern Family, 30 Rock and Community are my favorite comedies right now, with Always Sunny and The Office after that. Oh, and Curb.
It’s certainly not “bad,” but it’s making it hard to commit 44 minutes each week to it. And Fiennes’ bad Christian-Bale-as-Batman accent is tough to take.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:25 am
BINGO.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:27 am
Fail, Hawkeye, Fail.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:28 am
412- Dont link a fucking blog. Perez Hilton has a blog too.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:29 am
If by “celebrating” you mean “stand there and talk to the guy next to you,” then yes, that’s what they’re doing. CC looked like the only one really enjoying himself. Minka looked bored, like a tag along or something.
Good call on the messiah stuff, Bo.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:29 am
412, how is that any different to those who call obama hitler, or the anti-christ? lunatics on both sides. I voted for obama and i never called him the “messiah” or my savior
November 6th, 2009 at 9:30 am
who is the chick tampa
November 6th, 2009 at 9:31 am
Re: FlashForward – It’s no LOST or Fringe or anything that Sci-Fi/Drama-y, but it’s not bad. I thought last night’s episode was the best of the season thus far. My friend and I were talking about what the show is missing – you’re not really invested into characters. You want to like them but there’s no reason to. If viewers can’t connect to characters, then the show will fail.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:31 am
it’s becoming increasingly convoluted. im leaning towards “V” over flashforward mostly b/c i’m not spending half the episode trying to figure out whats happening or remember what someone’s flashforward was. cool concept, but… i dunno. it has it’s moments, like when they actually create situations where the future they saw can be changed, but it’s on life support for me at the moment.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:31 am
Steve Phillips’ porky fuckbuddy.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:32 am
Whenever someone feels the need to write out the president’s middle name, I know to stop listening to whatever they have to say.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:32 am
TBL, I know you hate the Colts, but there’s no reason for the post you’ve got going up in two hours.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:32 am
This is a huge mess in a ton of ways. Delonte is likeable, so the Cavs FO and players don’t want anything to happen to him. However, he is unstable and seemingly getting worse by the week.
The Cavs need him on the court, healthy (mentally and physically). Delonte needs to be on the court for his well-being. That said, I think he should be someplace getting help because he is obviously not right in the head.
Tough spot for the Cavs. But, I think they are going to have to move on and find someone on their bench or elsewhere to be able to help them.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:33 am
I did this with The League the first week, but last night I only made it three minutes.
This is the worst show I’ve ever seen, im’ pretty sure. I fast forwarded through at least half of it the first week, and was disgusted and didn’t laugh once.
I still almost recorded it last night.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:33 am
i cant remember the last time someone has actually put the word President in front of his name. its weird.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:33 am
The ironic thing with Right wing loyalist is the fact they deridingly call Obama the messiah when in fact the whole Reagan myth was created by their religious like devotion to him. If there is a different viewpoint or outlook on the issues that confront us today as compared to the 80’s, the reason would be because of the very politics that brought Reagan to power. People vote emotionally. They vote for some false sense of patriotism or some contrived outrage. Reagan fed on that and manipulated it to cover up for a lack of a domestic plan, while he spent us into a deficit and almost collapse paying for 800.00 toilet seats to fight a bogus cold war. He perpetrated like a strong leader, but was exposed for being clueless after Iran Contra.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:33 am
I’ve got that fucking Ne-Yo song “down” stuck in my head. Not the start to Friday I was looking for.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:34 am
mo williams is a much bigger problem than delonte. they both suck though
November 6th, 2009 at 9:35 am
Sunny In Philadelphia was outstanding…AGAIN…last night.. That show never fails.
Flashforward was really good also last night. I like that show..
November 6th, 2009 at 9:36 am
He perpetrated like a strong leader, but was exposed for being clueless after Iran Contra.
he was actually already senile.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:36 am
I feel like as I get older, there’s less and less of people saying “President” in normal conversation. When I was a kid, Bush and Clinton were my “president”. No it’s just “Bush” or “Dubya” or “Obama”. Maybe its a lack of respect thing, or a growing partisan split?
November 6th, 2009 at 9:36 am
Not surprising, but not any less disheartening. It’s one thing when I was in college and you are around a bunch of pessimists and people with hate for “the man”. But when you start to notice leaders of businesses and other people have those same feelings… well, it sucks for lack of a better term.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:37 am
412, whoever made that site has serious mental problems. Ron Artest thinks that site is crazy.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:37 am
btw, Beckinsale and Burke are both my dream wives. Insanely hot at their age.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:38 am
I’m going to love to hear the reasoning behind this statement.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:38 am
You mean like this? The Reagan Smash?

November 6th, 2009 at 9:38 am
Wouldn’t it be sad if Lincecum went to jail.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:38 am
come on, we were all calling Clinton, “Bubba”
November 6th, 2009 at 9:39 am
I know it is just a “fucking blog” (I type in the comments section of…a fucking blog). And, I do agree that some have gone over the top in attacking BHO on a personal level. But, then again, the other side did the same thing to GWB and continues to do this to Palin.
Either way, it isn’t terribly productive. If you see me do it I’m just trying to be provocative in the comments of a fucking blog. I don’t hate BHO personally–just his politics.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:39 am
Tampa, we know he won’t, and you know why.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:40 am
I zoomed in on that Beckinsale photo. I see two rings, but not the important one. I did not know she was single (please be true).
November 6th, 2009 at 9:41 am
btw, Beckinsale and Burke are both my dream wives. Insanely hot at their age.
you subsitute Halle for Burke and I’m with you…ageless.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:41 am
Maybe its just an adult thing. I was a child in the 90s. When I was younger I think it was taught more to respect the office of president and whoever was holding it but now it seems thats out the window.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:41 am
I think it’s media types(mostly internet) growing up with a lack of respect for the title. Even former presidents get called “Carter” or “Reagan” now. Maybe we just live in a lazy world now where saying or typing “president” in from of their names takes too much time.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:42 am
i thought she was married to the director of that movie she starred in and had a few kids with him
November 6th, 2009 at 9:44 am
when i was in the military, we had to always use Honorable Mr. Bush. I dont think that has changed.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:44 am
I twittered a few weeks ago that in my flash forward, Flash Forward was canceled. It’s not an awful show, but holy Tara Reid is the acting horrendous. On every level. Lost has some bad actors, but also has some incredible actors. FF has nothing but terrible performances. Gabrielle Union is the only one who is decent. Feinnes is atrocious. Wow.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:45 am
Yep, she’s hitched to the director of Undeworld, Len Shittymovieman.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:45 am
I think people see the whole “messiah” thing kinda like ESPN/Madden/Peter King’s love affair with No. 4.
I think people see GWB and his completely failed policies and Sarah Palin and her cuntiness (yes, I made up a word), and criticize.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:45 am
Yes. I think a good bit of this has to do with the polarization of the nation. There were an awful lot of people who loathed the POTUS prior to BHO and would never deign to give them that respect. And, it is generational as well. My grandmother hated Ronald Reagan’s guts, but would still refer to him as “President Reagan”.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:45 am
I zoomed in on that Beckinsale photo. I see two rings, but not the important one. I did not know she was single (please be true).
Sadly not true. She’s married (with kids) to hack director Len Wiseman — the guy who put her in the Underworld movies in tight latex.
Hmmm….Beckinsale latex.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:45 am
Question: How long can FlashForward last? Shouldnt everything culminate by next April? How can it go multiple seasons?
November 6th, 2009 at 9:45 am
/Tea Party’d
November 6th, 2009 at 9:47 am
Well the Island on Lost got bigger and bigger by the episode. Writers are creative.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:47 am
Well, figgity fuck.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:47 am
i stopped watching Lost last season. I guess I didn’t have the patience. This upcoming season is the last and im sure there are still a lot of unanswered questions. Its unfortunate because I spent so much time on it.
Watching a few episodes of Flash Forward reminded me of that and I gave up on it already..not at the fault of the show.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:47 am
Of course that hasn’t and won’t change. The president holds the highest rank in all of the military. But on a civilian level, it’s almost like talking about the manager you dislike at work. “Boy, that Obama makes me soooo mad!” “Isn’t Bush stoopid?”
November 6th, 2009 at 9:48 am
Because hes a baseball player, right?
November 6th, 2009 at 9:48 am
clown – I really don’t think the race of the President has any bearing on how people are reacting to him. In this day and age, most people don’t give a flying fuck. And the ignorant fucks that do are certainly not bothering to attend Tea Parties.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:49 am
I can see them stretching three seasons out of it. I get your point about April 30, 2010, though. I mean, that’s the flash date. Perhaps they figure out why it happened in S1 and have to take down the bad guys who did it in S2 or something. I’m just along for the ride right now.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:49 am
Bob sanders is made of Legos.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:49 am
/My Lambo is blue
//To be fair, the left was pretty hard on Pres. Bush.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:50 am
Wish that were true, but it’s naive to think so.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:50 am
cuz he’s rich?
November 6th, 2009 at 9:50 am
YOU LIE!
November 6th, 2009 at 9:51 am
Correct. Think about how that show started to where it is now. No fucking way anyone could’ve predicted this. The writers (Abrams, Lindelof, Cuse) have had a master plan all along. Yeah, they tweaked characters and storylines, but the concept and theme and direction of the show were planned since Day 1. Kinda bananas when you think of it.
So, yeah, FlashForward could take us anywhere (if the writers are as brilliant as the LOST guys).
November 6th, 2009 at 9:52 am
i havent liked a president since clinton and i was too young to know his politics. im sure i wouldnt have liked him either.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:53 am
wow. feisty friday crowd. still getting caught up on yesterday’s emails and such … looks like we will have a debut later of our new potential hockey writer. he’s a commenter.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:53 am
it just seems that the politicians in washington dont give a shit about their constituients (sp?) and vote the opposite of what they want
November 6th, 2009 at 9:54 am
Congrats, sg
November 6th, 2009 at 9:54 am
Agreed. Racism is still strong in this country and anyone who doesn’t see/understand that is naive or ignorant. No direct offense to you, 412.
I can’t speak for everyone… but I know people who didn’t vote for Obama because he was black. And they didn’t use the word “black” to describe him either. I know people who know people like this, too. So it’s not just me. These aren’t your shotgun-in-truck window, toothless, flannel wearing people, either. These are managers, suits, maintenance men, coaches, etc. And we were a blue state this year.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:55 am
Yes, he is. Thank goodness for Melvin Bullitt. Bill Polian’s an oracle.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:55 am
Follow the money.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:55 am
their constituents are the lobbyists who pay for their re-election, so they are doing their job. it’s just a formality they get our votes in the process.

i thought she was married to the director of that movie she starred in and had a few kids with him
Yeah, she’s definitely married.
I rememebr watching Brook Burke on “wild on” years ago. So fucking hot on that show; drunk, half-naked, and doing all types of crazy shit. That reminds me… has anyone seen that show on one of the HD channels where the two hot chicks travel around the world and basically do/see attractions in each place wearing something revealing the entire time? Cool show.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:57 am
HA!
November 6th, 2009 at 9:58 am
any chance you can get an additional world cup writer? maybe one to go along with the usual. it would be nice to have one that can relate to us common folk.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:00 am
Congrats, sg
+1
November 6th, 2009 at 10:00 am
That narrows it down to 5 of us then.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:00 am
cant believe we forgot to add beckinsale to the top 5 cougar list last week..
November 6th, 2009 at 10:00 am
I’m looking into going to the WC next summer. Money is obviously the big issue. If I do it, I was thinking about asking TBL for a daily post about the goings on.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:01 am
That’s a good call. Daily WC stuff would be good next summer…
And + A LOT for the great start to the morning. Kate Beckinsale is the the goddess of all goddesses.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:01 am
Sick, aristocratic burn.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:02 am
Not old enough for cougar status. MILF? Certainly, but she’s still in her 30’s.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:02 am
but I know people who didn’t vote for Obama because he was black.
I’d think the same percentage of people who didn’t vote for him based on race, voted for him based on race.
/We’re all racists
November 6th, 2009 at 10:05 am
most certainly. i asked my fellow students at school who they voted for and one replied, “i gotsta vote for the black man.”
November 6th, 2009 at 10:06 am
still remember her issue of playboy hitting the newsstands.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:07 am
i dont know what kelly ripa is wearing today but she looks great. her tits look magical
November 6th, 2009 at 10:11 am
excellent.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:13 am
Well, yes, there is something to that. But, everything has to be about race and 1% of 1% of the people opposed to BHO are racists, so let’s just lump all opposition in with them.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:15 am
is there a gallup poll with a pie chart so i can see some visuals?
there’s latent racism in nearly everyone
November 6th, 2009 at 10:17 am
Racism is not always visible and often drives people’s decisions and attitutes without them even realizing it.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:18 am
damn, just saw your last post wilhelm. what you said.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:21 am
This is the red herring of red herrings. If you think the civil rights movement was about the fact that a white guy preferred another white guy you don’t now shit about history. It’s about the fact that white guy preferred ANY white guy over another black guy. I don’t have a problem with the fact that white people root for a Tyler Hansborough or a Tim Tebow a little disproportionally (We all know race has a little to do with it). It’s only when they ignore the achievements of other guys who play gritty or scrappy that there’s a problem.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:23 am
black players arent scrappy though. this is well documented.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:28 am
Al Sharpton ran in the 04 Democratic Primary and did not receive anywhere near the bulk of the Black vote.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:34 am
that’s b/c he wasn’t the messiah nor a very good community organizer with a great PR machine. see how it goes full circle?

November 6th, 2009 at 10:45 am
I finished Peter King’s book, he does not list Bob Sanders in his current list of the top 100 current players.
I think that Community is improving every week.
Parks and Rec is funny because of everyone but Amy.
We love Modern Family.
Prediction: Broncos get beat by Pittsburgh by 10, that fantasy is over.
November 6th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
This just in: Kate Beckinsale is a 15 on a scale of 1-10.
