Red Sox Trade For Jeremy Hermida
1-liner, Baseball November 5th. 2009, 6:18pmJeremy Hermida to the Red Sox: The first big move of the off-season involved old trading buddies, Marlins and Red Sox. Boston sent two young prospects – Hunter Jones and Jose Alvarez – to the Marlins for a big-leaguer the Fish weren’t planning on rewarding monetarily. According to City of Champs, scouts were very pleased. The Red Sox fired their scouts years ago, so they couldn’t be reached for comment. (Boston Herald)

Alvarez could be a player in 3-4 years. Jones is your typical ‘left hander with a pulse’ type.
I like the trade for the Red Sox. Hermida can hit righties pretty well. Red Sox will have the luxury of only using him in situations where he is likely to succeed.

Good trade for the Marlins, kinda pointless for the Sawx. Anytime you can get young pitchers with upside for an outfielder, you take it. Not sure what kind of role Hermida (avg OF) will have in Boston. Guess Theo intended to take some of the attention away from NY?

Theo’s loading up to make either the Felix or Adrian Gonzalez trade. Book it.

Good move.

The Marlins NEVER make a trade w/out getting AT LEAST one pitcher in return, no matter what. I remember hearing either Samson or Beinfest say that on the radio once.
Too bad the Marlins weren’t able to hold onto Adrian Gonzalez many moons ago (although they wouldn’t have probably won the 03 Series w/out Machete Urbina either).

Damn. That’s the joke I wanted to make, but couldn’t put together. Well done.
