The Cowboys Out to Prove John Harbaugh Wrong
College Basketball, NFL November 8th. 2009, 8:10pm
And erase the salty memory of last year’s season-ending 44-6 thumping at the hands of the Eagles. Here’s the quote from Ravens’ coach John Harbaugh that’s sure to anger Jerry Jones:
… what Andy Reid and his program stand for is the opposite of what the Cowboys stand for. The Cowboys are a star system. It’s all about building around individuals first and collecting talent, collecting great players. Andy has always been about building a team … The Cowboys stand for everything that’s wrong with the NFL.”
Pick: Eagles 31, Cowboys 20. And that completes a lengthy day of blogging.
Another busy day tomorrow – especially on the college basketball front, as the season opens Monday night. We’re going to save the Vitale interview for Tuesday.

like the eagles have 5 trophies
November 8th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Eagles gonna put it on Dallas tonight. Extra hot.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
mocing it up, Prince of Persia was actually important to you guys? As a videogame geek of the era, never really cared.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:22 pm
Neither team has won shit. Yes, the eagles has been better this decade but the last time i checked, the eagles havent won a superbowl so there isnt much of a difference.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:22 pm
Andy Reid is too smart for his own good. Oh, look, there’s Faith Hill!

I hate the Cowboys more than any team in sports, but these comments are pretty assinine considering the Lombardi Trophy count between the men he mentioned, Jerry Jones and Andy Reid. I will now chop off my hands…

Me neither. Never really played it. I made a really funny comment about the movie on the last post. Did you see it?! Did ya!? I can re-post it if you didn’t!
November 8th, 2009 at 8:29 pm
Nice of NBC to show us the entire “Prince of Persia” movie
November 8th, 2009 at 8:29 pm
There’s a big difference between several NFC title games and a Super Bowl appearance and no playoff wins since college freshmen were in Kindergarten.
Harbaugh’s right. Dallas has great history, but they’ve been mediocre at best for nearly 13 years.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
Eh. I turn you to Chuck Klosteman from Simmons book (which you will roundly mock, and I will not have the energy to disagree with):
“If we erase the social meaning of their careers – in other words, if we ignore the unsophisticated cliche that suggests the only thing valuable about sports is who wins the last game of the season – which of thse two men is better at the game.”
He was arguing Wilt over Russell, but I think this is a good thought to have, generally, about teams and players.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
Chuck Klosterman is a genius. I find it hard to believe he slummed it and went to school here.
He’s also absolutely right on Wilt. And he’s tall.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
The game was awesome, bit I cant get angry about them making it into a movie.
If they did the same to ‘God of War” however…
November 8th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
The Simmons book is very entertaining, and I’m not even a huge NBA fan. Probably helps that I’m a big Simmons fan.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:33 pm
Who has a bigger game: Miles Austin or DeSean Jackson?
November 8th, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Eh. I turn you to Chuck Klosteman from Simmons book (which you will roundly mock, and I will not have the energy to disagree with):
when I mocked Simmons’ 700 page basketball book as being 697 pages too long, irish ripped my head off and took a 30 lb dump inside, so I won’t mock that fucking book ever again
November 8th, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Romo wearing sleeves? It’s 53 there, you pansy!
November 8th, 2009 at 8:34 pm
If they did the same to ‘God of War” however…
Good idea. With “Immigrant Song” by Led Zeppelin blaring over the end credits. I have put some thought into this stuff….
November 8th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
Romo wearing sleeves? It’s 53 there, you pansy!
Hey! He played with a broken finger while we were at a baby shower!
November 8th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
He’s also absolutely right on Wilt. And he’s tall.
a year ago i spent the better part of an hour on here having to argue that Wilt was better than Dwight fucking Howard.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
lol
I remember seeing a preview for a ‘Zelda: Ocarina of Time” movie and nearly shit my pants. I called about 10 people before someone told me it was a prank. I was never so depressed.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
Am now blasting “When the Levee Breaks” for Jay.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
That would be the coolest movie ever. Best video game ever made.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
I can only guess who said this
November 8th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
A Metroid movie would be fucking sweet if done right. Like by Ridley Scott or Zack Snyder or someone of the sort.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
was i part of that discussion? because i have argued for wilt > dwight howard too. only a retarded homer[discreet head tilt to irish] would think that dwight is better than wilt.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
Ah ha NEWMAN.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
smart play by newman.
I would be the first online for the Zelda movie. My favorite video game of all time, easily.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:40 pm
That’s the most ridiculous thing ever. One was an offensive machine, the other has zero offensive moves.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:41 pm
My only problem with a Metroid movie is that it has Michael bay’s name written all over it.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:41 pm
Wilt was beast, no doubt, but don’t overlook the fact that he played only for himself.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:42 pm
I prefer Link to the Past, personally.
I wish they would have made Chrono Trigger into a movie. The Final Fantasy movie kinda sucked.
/yup, I’m a dork…

Ha! Nice.

there were a few who shall remain nameless, but one was our statistically fanatical friend who was ban hammered
November 8th, 2009 at 8:42 pm
Is it hard to argue for Wilt over Howard? Is that wrong? Becuse at my old office that sort of thing happened all the time.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
Nevermind a movie, how about a real sequel?
November 8th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
I was completely shocked… SHOCKED… when I found out Samsus was a girl. Had never known that until a couple years ago.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
Didn’t Wilt lead the league in assists one year just for fun or something like that? Reminds me of Ty Cobb
November 8th, 2009 at 8:44 pm
No he said Wilt was better than Russell. Which started a shit storm.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:44 pm
I wish they would have made Chrono Trigger into a movie. The Final Fantasy movie kinda sucked.
/yup, I’m a dork…
No your not. I once wrote down an entire cast list for a Final Fantasy 7 movie and recorded me playing it while editing out all the non boss fighting. And i’m cool…. right?
November 8th, 2009 at 8:44 pm
You all talked about Trigger a while ago and I was pissed that I missed it.
By the way, a Professor Layden movie is coming out.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
Why? Wilt was better than Russell.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
i dont care if he played for world peace. dwight cant hold wilt’s sneakers
November 8th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
I wish they would have made Chrono Trigger into a movie. The Final Fantasy movie kinda sucked.
/yup, I’m a dork…
Everything you’ve said is true. I’m too old for gamecube. Found it offensive. Suspect I’ll play Ocarina when I’m sixty and be happy as fuck. FF 3 and Link to the Past came out in same Christmas, I think 93, happiest winter break of my life.
/oh, also a big fan of chrono trigger, and easily a movie.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:46 pm
Wilt was better than russell
November 8th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
depends on the year… I’m going to spend my life having Bill Simmons’s opinions. fuck.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
Wilt lead the league in assists because he decided he wanted to lead the league in assists. He paid no nevermind to whether that would help his team or not.
Also, Tashard Choice is better than you.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
Cowboys just marched down the field for a touchdown.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
No he said Wilt was better than Russell. Which started a shit storm.
So starting shit storms is frowned upon? Better watch myself. I’m still kinda new.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
Video games back then we’re waaayyy better! CT, Super Metroid, FF3, Actraiser, Legend of Mystical Ninja, Contra 3, SF2, MK2…
/old man
November 8th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
I’ve liked all of the Zelda games except for Zelda 2. Although I found the last zelda lacking, but thats because I was spoiled by Ocarina and Majoras mask.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
Me too. Still own the official strategy guides for both. I upgraded to the Final Fantasy Anthology for PS… has IV, V, VI while the other one has Chrono Trigger and FF 2.
Never got into the stratics or strategy game they made. Didn’t care for it all that much. The new one comes out for PS3 in February. I’ll probably buy it and fail out of grad school.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
beadle: it initially started when our Orlando friend said “Move over Dwight” for breaking Wilt’s record for most rebounds at his age (forgetting he started at 18 in the league)
here’s another funny one. good times
November 8th, 2009 at 8:50 pm
FF3 was the shit.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
We talked about this a couple days ago, but the shit they were able to do on the N64 still shocks me to this day. Mario64, the Zeldas, Goldeneye… I still don’t think I ever beat Diddy Kong Racing..
/thinks about it
Fuck… I never beat diddy kong fucking racing!!!
November 8th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
i’ll settle for a good video game movie
November 8th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
I thought Windwaker was pretty weak.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:52 pm
LOL Jersey. I don’t think I ever played that.
I’ll get laughed at but don’t care… the Tetris they made for N64 was fucking awesome with the blocks and everything. Think I wasted a lot of nights getting high, playing pool and that game in a friend’s basement in the late 1990s.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:52 pm
I enjoy the amount of grad students on this site consistently. Grad school is defined by “I’d prefer not to be real yet”, even if you have a realistic goal outside of it.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:52 pm
Fuck that, Cross was awesome.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:52 pm
Suspect I’ll play Ocarina when I’m sixty and be happy as fuck.
You will. One of my fav’s as well. Still go back to it. Legend of Zelda: Collectors Edition that used to come with Gamecubes was a godsend.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
Don’t worry, NOBODY liked Zelda 2.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
Windwaker was okay. it was for DS so they try to tailor it for kids. Like mario Sunshine (I’m not trying to say that Mario was dark before that, but they tried to make it all puuurdy and cute)
November 8th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
I’ve liked all of the Zelda games except for Zelda 2. Although I found the last zelda lacking, but thats because I was spoiled by Ocarina and Majoras mask.
I loved Twilight Princess. It’s gigantic. Just play it with a Gamecube controller.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:55 pm
FF3 was the shit.
absolutely my favorite game ever.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:55 pm
Think I wasted a lot of nights getting high, playing pool and that game in a friend’s basement in the late 1990s.
Not a waste by any strech of the imagination SC.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:55 pm
best at, original super smash bros. but I didn’t have the passion for it (like Agassi)
November 8th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
That’s the reason I went to grad school – also helped that since I was in engineering I could make some $ while I was there as well.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
Oh, and the CDi games should never, ever count.
Ever.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
This was the beginning of the end for me. I was gonna by a gamecube just to get this game, and thats when I decided, this is too much. I dont know anyone who owns Twilight Princess, but I read it was the new wheel.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
I could smoke you with Kirby.
Although my friend would kill us both with Fox.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
6 p.m. pacific time and I just put shoes and a shirt on for the first time. Here’s to Sundays in November!
November 8th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
Sadly GSG we’ve (I’ve) been drunk before, this conversation has happened, and I would kill you and your friend with another friend teamed up if I was Fox.
/this is way too early for this sad thread.

Cannot even tell you how many middle school after school afternoons were spent playing 4 player SSB.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:59 pm
That’s me in a nutshell.
I’ve beaten Ocarina every which way possible: getting all the hearts/heart container, all the spider things, all the items, etc. Doing it just on 3 hearts. I’m a nerd.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:59 pm
This was the beginning of the end for me. I was gonna by a gamecube just to get this game, and thats when I decided, this is too much. I dont know anyone who owns Twilight Princess, but I read it was the new wheel
That’s exactly what I did. Totally worth it after you by Mario Kart: Double Dash and 3 more controllers.
November 8th, 2009 at 8:59 pm
(and items were set on high) need me items
November 8th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
jpq – You’re right about Pistol. He was ahead of his time. He would have thrived in the early 00’s. On Wilt, though, I’d have to say Russell was better.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
Twilight Princess is good, but just seemed like OoT just with different dungeons. Windwaker was fucking beautiful, played like a dream, and would have surpassed OoT if not for the tacked on minigame searching for the the damn treasure chests.
Also, for those that really like Link to the Past, check this

Your correct, but damn it’s fun. It’s the BallzDeep effect. Huge non-sports related tangents.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
Master Quest too?
November 8th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
That game was the tits. My brother and I would compete on sprints all the time. He got over 800 a couple of times. I think the best I have done is about 600. Damn I may have to break that out tonight after Dexter.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
Twilight Princess is good, but just seemed like OoT just with different dungeons.
Yes, exactly. That’s why it was so awesome. More dungeons, larger area, better graphics. Ocarina of Time 2.0. Though nothing can replace OoT for me. It’ll always hold a special place for me.
/not ghey

I failed out of my second college partly due to my enjoyment of destroying my dorm on this game 3 on 1. One of the few times I did coke in my life I ended up back on my floor and beat the fuck out of three of them while occasionally abandoning the controller to rewind Buckcherry’s “Lit Up” over and over again.

Anyone ever play Mario Tennis? That game was sick.

the thread on it was kind of all over. JJ is a great defensive player that despite his last season will be a major upgrade in the Twins middle infield offensively and defensively. Brewers at worst get one of the best center fielders in the league. Milwaukee saves a shit ton of money. It’s just smart for everybody.

balls: I was just busting yours before, like SC and his mean-spirited comment directed at me above
you need I Pulled a Groin here for
strikelessons. he walked me through it for about 20 minutes. Now I can do it, but it would take me 20 minutes to explain it to someone.November 8th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
Well… I need 40 points to hit my over.
FML.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
Hardy has the potential for a huge comeback season. His BABIP was in the toilet and most of his peripherals were basically the same. I’m very excited.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
taguchi: is that movie like a Fast Food Nation?

Ok. Hard to be mad at a Stones fan.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
I’m confident you could teach me how to hire and fire. And manage my money. And when I have kids (it’ll be a while), I can only hope TBL is still active so I can come to you to determine what to do when the little bastard ruins my sports collectables.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Ok. Hard to be mad at a Stones fan.
Mick and the boys make all things better, like coke
November 8th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
metallica sucks.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
Brewers saved money but now it depends on what they do with that money.
Gomez is now just another hole in the lineup. With Escobar, Gomez, the pitcher spot and who knows who the catcher will be almost half the lineup has no power whatsoever.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:50 pm
No, it’s a documentary, its kind of about the same things. It’s fucking terrifying. And 95% of it isn’t crazy people talking to you (except for this successful as fuck crazyass independent farmer they found), it’s just scary fact after scary fact and salt of the earth type people looking at you with dead eyes. Did you know that in 1979 there were literally over 10,000 major slaughter houses and today their are 13? Every hamburger is literally thousands of cows.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:51 pm
Thats why you gotta buy from a local butcher shop.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
man I sure do kill things. You know what else kills threads? crappy cowboys football.

/nodding head ’till neck is sore
November 8th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
that’s just sad.
Good defensive play is underratted, a lot, but JJ was going and they got something useful. They’d have probably releases him. Anywho, Cards get by with one offensive player, Brewers still have Fielder/Braun with a little Weeks (the year?) Gamel and Hart thrown in. It can work.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
After watching SNF all sesason so far I am really starting to hate Cris Colinsworth.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
especially in center. That’s really an underrated huge guy to have.

SC: I’m afraid I’m stepping into a sarcacism IED you layed for me here, but I will say one of the SADDEST (and maddest) moments of my life was when I came home from college after Freshman year, and my mother had decided to throw out all of my card collections and SI issues I had had for years. I’m talking NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL cards from probably 1968-1977, and SI issues from about 1973-1979.
I literally wanted to kill her, and then, 10 years later, when that Honus Wagner card got sold for like $500K, I wanted to kill her all over again
November 8th, 2009 at 9:56 pm
yeah because they had so much potential. give me Rage Against the Machine
November 8th, 2009 at 9:56 pm
I mean this
November 8th, 2009 at 9:57 pm
His defense is his only real positive that I see. Hart could be traded. Less likely but possible would be Gamel traded.
The Cards also had great pitching throughout the year as well, dont forget that. THe Brewers are still looking for a couple of starters. You can get by with less offense when you have to Cy Young candidates in Carpenter and Wainright, quality starter in Pineiro and even Lohse most the season.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
Ballz you suck at coding haha
November 8th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
At worst he’s still going to be much better than what you had. Like I said, it really makes sense for everybody. His cost reminded me Neyer had a post about the Twins being willing to pay for eh (sp. hernandez and monroe) but not going for it with great players.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
Hart thrown in
no. think of everything that Ryan Ludwick means to your team. Now take away every tool he has and add mediocre speed. You have Corey Hart.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
No sarcasm IED. If my 1990s Bulls memorbilia (I have EVERY Chicago Tribune and Sun Times from the day after they won the title and quite a few other things) ever gets destroyed, I will put the kid up for adoption.
Ok, I take a lot of crap for liking the Yankees. Here’s a good one. I own 132 different newspapers’ sports sections from the day after the Red Sox won the World Series. I got the Boston Globe signed by Nomar Garciaparra when he was a Cub. Couldn’t believe he signed it.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
Ok, I suck. Look up U2 and Mick Jagger performing “Gimmie Shelter” at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert. I give up.
yeah because they had so much potential. give me Rage Against the Machine
YES. Rage was my first concert ever. University of San Diego.
November 8th, 2009 at 9:59 pm

November 8th, 2009 at 10:02 pm

Rage loves me. I got a shirt signed by the whole band when they reunited at the Coachella Music Festival.

The Ace of Spades!
November 8th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
SC, you’re all over the place. I dont think I can defend you anymore
November 8th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Do you guys think we like Ryan Ludwick? That was a shit season though. Still, he’s much yonger. Is Kendall gonna catch?

I liked him too, when he was on the Dodgers. He’s from Whittier too. Right down the Imperial Highway from the BallzDeep Penthouse.

Still trying to post a link. Beer 8.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:06 pm
Ballz: at the end of Curb tonight, they had an ad that HBO is showing an edited version of those concerts on Sunday 11/29. I’m psyched. That version sounded great.
I remember hearing Gimme Shelter on Steel Wheels w/ a young Lisa Fisher. I saw that tour 4 times, and got chills every time she sang w/ Mick.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:07 pm
It scares me to death what Melvin will do with his money he has.
Last time he spent 44 million on Jeff Suppan
November 8th, 2009 at 10:08 pm
I’m a huge Stones fan. Feel like I need to see them ASAP before one dies. Never seen ‘em.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:09 pm
I’m convinced that every female singer out today age 10-25 sounds exactly the same. They just showed the Band hero game and and I cant tell ehr voice from anyone elses
November 8th, 2009 at 10:09 pm
God I hope Kendall is not back.
Word is Jonathan Lucroy could be their catcher.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
True. His fascination with Dave Duncan creations is great. No pitcher to sign is the problem. If you’re paying anyone besides lackey/Holliday/Bay this offseason I don’t get it, and I don’t think those three will be worth their contracts. It’s a bad offseason.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
He played college ball at Georgia Tech, on a really great team that also had Varitek, and the older brother of one of my good buddies was a starting pitcher. They ended up losing to Oklahoma in the championship game at the CWS.

Souvi – I think you need a 12 step program for collecting sports memorabilia.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:11 pm

November 8th, 2009 at 10:11 pm
Angels were smart as hell to lock down abreu to a reasonable contract.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:11 pm
I got the Boston Globe signed by Nomar Garciaparra when he was a Cub. Couldn’t believe he signed it.
my Mom died last summer, and when I went back to go through the house, I found this bag with all these newspapers wrapped up in them that she had saved for me. I had forgotten all about them.
They were the days right after JFK’s assassination, the days around Neil Armstrong landing on the moon, and the days around Nixon’s resignation because of Watergate. I sat there and read those papers for about 4 striaght hours. Pretty cool.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
Boxes upon boxes at my folks house, Hawkeye. I’ve been asked to clean it out several times… NEVER!
Oddly enough, as one of the few hockey fans on this site, I only have one piece of hockey memorabilia. Eddie the Eagle’s mask from an auction. Not exactly worth much now. No JR, Chelios or other famous Hawks.
My old man has a Mikita game worn jersey though. He loves Stan. His fave is Tony Espo, though.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
Gotta give him credit for last season, even if as always he inevitably wore down and sucked ass near the end.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
Word around here is the Brewers are lookin at Washburn and/or Mulder as a low risk high reward option.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
I’m a huge Stones fan. Feel like I need to see them ASAP before one dies. Never seen ‘em.
We’re too late brother. I’d still see them, but it’s too late. I don’t know how old you are SC, but if your around my age (27), we were born too late.
Ballz: at the end of Curb tonight, they had an ad that HBO is showing an edited version of those concerts on Sunday 11/29. I’m psyched. That version sounded great.
If I wasn’t such a drunken idiot i could give you a link to the whole song. I like it so much because I love U2 as well. They just don’t make ‘em like they used to. This years MTV VMA’s was the most depressing thing i’ve ever seen on television.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:15 pm
Ugh. Eddie the Eagle. I’ll buy it from you for the explicit purpose of taking a shit in it.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
He played college ball at Georgia Tech, on a really great team that also had Varitek, and the older brother of one of my good buddies was a starting pitcher. They ended up losing to Oklahoma in the championship game at the CWS.
Hey, that’s something! Good for you, Lefty!
/I’m a snob/total dick.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:17 pm
You’re pitching coach has some kind of connection to Mulder I think. God that trade was the worst of this decade for me. I doubt he gets much, low risk. I think spending on league average starters is dangerous, for the most part.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:17 pm
JPQ – I have a lot of them from 9/11. In my lifetime, there really wasn’t another huge national event that occurred. Maybe the Lewinski scandal but I was still only like 13 when that happened. I recall attempting to read the Starr report. Had no idea what the hell half of it meant.
You should frame yours or get them matted at least. Those are pieces of history.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:17 pm
Great Ed Balfour story SC: He came to my hometown and played a charity game and when he was walking back to the tunnel he handed me his stick and then autographed it. I was like 10.
He also went to my college and won a national title, if I’m not mistaken.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
I had no idea Chris Chambers played for the Chiefs until today.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Springsteen played with U2 as well. But i’ve never met a Springsteen fan in California and i’ve lived here my whole life. Strictly an east coast thing I guess.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:19 pm

November 8th, 2009 at 10:19 pm
So I guess all that stuff about Michael Turner and 370 carries was wrong?
November 8th, 2009 at 10:19 pm
Balfour was always great at giving back to the young, mentally challenged children.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:19 pm
Some of my earliest memories are chanting “Belfour” at the old Arena in St. Louis.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
@fetch – That’s fucking awesome. He was my favorite Blackhawks player when I was young. I loved Eddie. My dad was a goalie, therefore I gravitated to goaltenders.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
He didn’t until this week. The Chargers waived him, the Chiefs picked him up. They put him in the starting lineup and he caught 2 TD’s…

yeah jarry angelo the Bears couldnt have used him at all.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:21 pm
Oh thanks. That would be why…
November 8th, 2009 at 10:22 pm
it’s just not so. We’ve got the best position player and two of the best ten starters in the NL. Accidents happen.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
How come the Bears almost seem to be defiant at picking up or trading for a receiver?
November 8th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
Some of my earliest memories are chanting “Belfour” at the old Arena in St. Louis.
Best goalie in all the classic sega genesis NHL games also.
/tix on sale tomorrow for U2 here at Landfucker Stadium. I’m gonna go
Tix went on sale last monday for U2 at wanna be LA angel stadium down the street from me. Saw the show at the Rose Bowl last month. Fuck Anaheim.

Uh, 7>8 according to an old post.
Belour was from my teams glory year(s)
November 8th, 2009 at 10:24 pm

huge deal supposedly because Floyd was going to make points this week. Other reasons apparently.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:24 pm
yeah jarry angelo the Bears couldnt have used him at all.
mrejr: not defending Angelo, but Chiefs got a shot at him first (like draft order on players waived)
sorry tbl, but fantasy is as boring as talking about video games and Simpsons quotes
November 8th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
Because Holliday had nothing to do with that and because a 5 game series really tells the whole story right?
November 8th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
November 8th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
shit happens in small sample sizes. Cards aren’t just fine, but they can certainly win their division or wc next year and accidentally do well lik 2006.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
I don’t get it.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
Fetch is pointing out NCAA National Championships. My alma matter is on the lower end.

how was it? My cousin saw them in Tampa and said it was meh, but my wife and I like them too much to NOT see them. Elevation was the last time I saw them, and that was one of the 5 best shows I’ve ever seen in my life
November 8th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
rondo they have this crazy notion that because the receivers we have arent completely horrible that they are good. devin is 18th in the league in receiving yards and they think this is the year he makes the leap! it isnt. the highest he should be on the wr depth chart is no. 2 maybe even 3.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
The Nationals had 9 3+ game winning streaks this year. Shit happens.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
TSG whats your opinion on the Ryan Franklin extension?
A bit premature no?
November 8th, 2009 at 10:27 pm

Fetch it was a soccer post where someone was saying that there were more attractive Italian women than British women, but the counting was off.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
maybe so but angelo said that a guy like chambers wouldnt have helped because of the scheme change and also the guys we have now arent so bad. he said the “arent so bad” part when asked why he doesnt pick up a marvin harrison or matt jones.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
I listen to WSCR a lot on my way to work and back and they seemed to dwell on that quite a bit. Besides Olsen, who is a tight end, who the hell is a go to receiver on that team? No one.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
The numbers hasd nothing to do with the championships you all were talking about
November 8th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Sometime in the past few years my mother threw away boxes of SI’s i had collected throughout my childhood. talk about depressing. i also have boat loads of hockey cards and box sets of baseball cards from the late 80’s to mid to late 90’s, hopefully those don’t go anywhere either.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
JPQ – Best show I’ve ever seen was Pearl Jam at the United Center in 2001. They closed with The Who’s Baba O’Reilly (who wayyyyyyy too many people think is called “teenage wasteland”). It was outstanding.
I think you and my old man have similar music tastes. He’s 53, so only ~10 years older than you. He loves Steve Miller Band, The Stones, George Thorogood, Peter Frampton, Sly and the Family Stone, Steely Dan, Clapton etc.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:30 pm

It was amazing. Can’t describe it. I’ve never seen them before, so yeah, a seminal moment in my life.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
Oh no!!! Swept in a 5 game series?? The Cards shouldnt even compete next season. Plus dont forget the Holliday misplay.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:32 pm
Didn’t like it but it’s not a lot of money. He’s just not that good. He was real lucky in the first half. But I still think (hope) our front office knows that, and I think LaRussa secretly thinks that.
Ok, good luck with that. But not just beat. Swept.
…yes? That’s kind of baseball.

I feel sorry for Alex Smith.
What? 5 differet OC’s in 5 seasons?
November 8th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
I’m really hoping U2 schedules a date here in Minnesota. Their last tour was one of the best arena shows I’ve been to
November 8th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
WSCR >>>>>>>> WMVP. I love wscr except for boers and bernstein.Go to receiver? ours? shiiiiit we dont have one.it looks like hester has bulked up and lost some of his speed. knox disappears. earl is gonna be good but he is young. i thought aromashadu was someone to keep an eye on but apparently he is hurt all the time. chambers would have helped a lot.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
The Cards shouldnt even compete next season.
Yea, that’s what i’m saying. The Cards schooled the Dodgers during the regular season and ended up laying a total egg when it counted against a team whose only prime time player is well past his said prime. Any realistic hope of winning another championship is gone. You had the best hitter and two of the best pitchers in baseball last year and couldn’t manage a single w in the postseason.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
The Bears getting Cutler, but no recieivers to help him reminds me of Ted Thompson thinking A Rodgers is this great QB, which he may be, but gets him no decent protection to keep him from running for his life.
Makes little sense.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
SC: Yeah, Pearl Jam cut their teeth on old Who songs. That VH1 Honors of the Who was pretty cool. They did The Real Me and I thought did a great job.
Yeah, I’m 48, so our tastes seem pretty similar. The Who was my favorite until I saw the Stones on Steel Wheels and tours since then. Before that, they SUCKED in concert, mainly due to Keith. I saw them on July 4, 1978 right before he got nailed for heroin. About 3 songs in, he passed out, and roadies dragged him by his legs off the stage and we never saw him again that day.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:38 pm

I used to hate Boers and Bernstein but they are slowly growin on me. It pisses me off though when they dismiss any opinion other than their own may me correct.
I like J Hood at nite the best.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
What you’re really saying is: The Cards beat the Dodgers a bunch out of 19 times, but then had a 3 game losing streak at the end. I can tell you know your baseball.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
jpq – is that right?
November 8th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
just so silly.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
you’re preaching to the choir. the crazy thing is that their is talent in free agency right this minute that could at least help the bears and they just refuse to sign anyone.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:42 pm

November 8th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
Just please dont talk baseball anymore. You are clearly baseball retarded.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
@mrejr – I hope we buy an offensive lineman (much like we did John Tait) because we don’t have the draft choices. They need to build the defense via the draft.
Which, yes, will be difficult with the limited picks.

Lawrence Holmes is the only thing I like about WSCR anymore. Terry and Dan have turned me off so much that I can’t listen. Love Waddle and Silvy and love the Afternoon Saloon on WMVP.
In the morning… yeah, I’d probably listen to Mully and Hanley over Mike and Mike.. or Matzah and Meatball as JPQ says.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
Oh yeah. I think I was thinkin of Lawrence Holmes. He actually seems to be critical of the Chicago teams and a realist.
There was some guy before baseball started I think Jason Goff, dude was saying there was no way the Cubs dont win the division and was dissin anyone trying to tell him otherwise. We got a lot of those homers up here in Packer country.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
Just please dont talk baseball anymore. You are clearly baseball retarded.
Well gee whiz! I guess we’ll find out, won’t we.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
Are Boers and Bernstein really like the dickheads they come off as on the radio?
November 8th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
hawkeye: no, the concert story is 100% true. How’s this for an eclectic mix? April Wine, Taj Mahal, The Atlanta Rhythm Section, and Journey were the opening bands before the Stones came on. People were completely baked (in numerous ways) when the Stones finally hit the Stadium stage in Buffalo. I was almost 17, so it was a fun day-lol
November 8th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
We’re already about 95% of the way there
November 8th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
I saw Pearl Jam in like 2001 at Alpine Valley on a cold October nite. It was awesome.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
there are a few on the free agent list unless we find a late round sleeper pick that is the only way we can address the o-line need. there will also be some stud wr free agents as well. i could see tommie harris getting traded for 3rd rounder(maybe second which is doubtful but he is young)
November 8th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
heh. I recognize two of those bands. Of course, I was just about two at the time….
November 8th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
What??
Roy Williams with a nice catch???
November 8th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
Well gee whiz! I guess we’ll find out, won’t we.
we’ll find out it’s statistically unlikely but completely coneivable the Cardinals could win the series next year? I’m pretty sure if you run twenty-three leage average players with the last seasons of Carpenter, Wainwright, and Pujols you can make the playoffs in the NL central. I don’t in any way think they win the World Series next year, but your reasoning is quite flawed.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Did they just say no catches for Miles Austin tonight? Fucking figures.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
do your college hoops homework tonight, people.
there will be a prize for whomever picks the F4 correctly
November 8th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
Cris Collinsworth was always a likeable guy to me, but the constant praise for this, and complaining about that, gets real old during a live game.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:55 pm

I do my best to pretend college hoops doesn’t exist.

I’ll bet you something to be negotiated later that my throwing darts will do just about as well.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
^^^THIS
The goal is to get to the playoffs and then with the Cards starters and Pujols anything can really happen. Look at the teams in the last 10 years to go to the World Series and there is no way you can say it CANT happen.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
I’ll bet that there’s not one school from the SEC or Pac-10 in the Final Four this coming season. That’s the only bet I can make. Action?
November 8th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
I don’t in any way think they win the World Series next year, but your reasoning is quite flawed.
I don’t think they will either. The only reason I mentioned is the one that gave me the chance to make fun of my pussy ass favorite team.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
terrible pass by mcnabb. he has burners at WR, why isn’t he bombing everything? not a good game for D-Mac, IMO
November 8th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
nice pick
/goddmanit
November 8th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
McNabb just threw another INT.
Calls for Vick anytime soon?
November 8th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
i find it a virtual abomination how all announcers suck off T Newman. he’s a bad CB. weak tackler, not a smart defender, seems to play many bad angles.
the only thing i can think of is that he’s on national TV a lot, so his miscues are heightened. im sure more CBs would be terrible if they were on national TV 4-5 times in the first 8 weeks.
November 8th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
Roy Williams again!!!
Cmon Boys!!!
November 8th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
there is no way you can say it CANT happen.
I’m not saying they can’t. I’m saying they won’t. You know this, I know this, gooch knows this, and the American people know this.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
al davis?
November 8th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
uhhhhh yeah. he only had 1 int the whole season before this game.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
THROW A FUCKING TOUCHDOWN ROMO SO I CAN WIN MY FANTASY WEEK YOU GOD DAMN COCKSUCKER
there. I feel better
November 8th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
This is exactly what NOT TO DO if you are the Eagles. Bomb everything???
November 8th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
I’ll bet you something to be negotiated later that my throwing darts will do just about as well.
beat me to it.
/I’ll go w/ my alma mater for the Final Four, as they made it in my freshman year when it was in Indy also, but got smoked by Darrell Griffith
//SC’s Iowa team also went that year, btw thanks to Ronnie Lester
November 8th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
Guess I should have taken the under… -3 still looking okay though.
I’ll actually make a solid bet that’s worth taking. No SEC, Pac-10 or Big Ten team outside of MSU in the Final Four. Anyone? You know where to find me.
And yes, I do pay up.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
I assure you the 2006 Cardinals couldn’t lick the 2009 Cardinals jock.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
Exactly, but thats the point. The playoffs are a crapshoot.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
How we ever let Lute Olsen go, I’m not sure, JPQ. That was a mistake.
At least they didn’t make the same mistake with Hayden and football. Wish I was alive to see them in the Rose Bowl in 198w. I was only 2 when they played UCLA in 1986.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
why isn’t he bombing everything?
Ted Kaczynski?
November 8th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
I assure you the 2006 Cardinals couldn’t lick the 2009 Cardinals jock.
Ok, as long as you assure me.

SC: I went to the Rose Bowl in 2001 to see Brees lose to Marques Tuiasasopo(?) and Washington.
Here’s a little tidbit: My friend and I stayed at his cousin’s place in Pacific Palisades and went to a New Year’s Eve party where I got to meet Teri Hatcher…which is nice
November 8th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
I’m not saying I’d have sex with you to be close to 2001 Teri Hatcher… but I’m not not saying it.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
I’m not saying I’d have sex with you to be close to 2001 Teri Hatcher… but I’m not not saying it.

JPQ: My best friend from HS, his mom is a Purdue alum. Perhaps around your time. Let me know if the last name Doyle rings a bell in your tower. She was a sorority girl.
I’ve been to Mackey twice. Once for an Iowa game. Another time to see them beat Indiana. It was like a winning a Super Bowl when they beat Indiana. That rivalry is intense.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
JPQ: My best friend from HS, his mom is a Purdue alum. Perhaps around your time. Let me know if the last name Doyle rings a bell in your tower. She was a sorority girl.
SC: I was a fraternity guy.

/don’t think so on the name, but have a couple good Jim Young (football coach) daughter and Gene Keady and his wife stories for another day
November 8th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
mcnabb has never (will never) throw a ball right into the hands of a receiver.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
Gotta punt it near midfield right?
November 8th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
I hope they dont get this.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
nope go for it. Every time. My NFL team wouldn’t even have a punter
November 8th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
this is why baseball replay and football replay are totally different animals. You can not fix football shit half the time.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
he made it, good challenge
November 8th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
I dont give a fuck.
You have allowed one TD all nite long and you go for it at midfield in the 4th quarter of a tie game???
Dumb.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
You can’t see football shit all the time.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:20 pm

So they need to go put some lotion on?
And does that make the White Sox Leonard Washington
/no, Chappelle Show jokes are not old.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
WOW!!! I thought they would move the ball but not enough for a first down.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Eagles deserve to lose. Idiots.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
You allow one TD through 3+ quarters and you give the momentum right back to your division rival.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
Barber is a bad bad motherfucker.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Good point by Collinsworth – Asante Samuel either needs to man up or get off the field.

November 8th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
Dumbass Reid goin for it at midfield instead of pinning the Boys deep in their own territory.

November 8th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
hey dude, going for it was the right call, chill.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
I dont think it was. Make the Cowboys go the length of the field, dont give them the ball about 20 yards from FG range when your D has been effective all nite.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
You should read advancednflstats.com Clearly you’re a statistically inclined guy from your baseball posts. Should be right up your alley.

November 8th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
why can seth macfarlane make fun of how retards talk but i can’t?
November 8th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
I am pleased with that outcome. That’s how I like games to end. The team winning, holding the ball, running the clock out.
Good stuff.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
Why is Harbaugh even talking about Dallas? Look at his team imploding before our very eyes!
November 8th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
Damn.
Demarcus Ware is one big bad MF’er but has the soft voice of child!!!
November 8th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
Why is Harbaugh even talking about Dallas? Look at his team imploding before our very eyes!
It just came out in a book published re: the Eagles, but it was said last year, after Baltimore demolished the Cowboys at home, and just prior to Philly demolishing the Cowboys 44-6 to end their season.
It’s relevant because it’s in a book, and its’ the first time the teams have played this year.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:57 pm
The Cowboys success and winning streak every season makes the crash and burn in the last couple of weeks that much sweeter.
November 8th, 2009 at 11:57 pm

dirt: I read it earlier. I was laughing at his anger at Jim, when it was John who said it
November 9th, 2009 at 12:00 am
OH ok. Thanks Dirt. But that is just a biased view coming from a Cowboys rival. How many SB’s has Andy Reid won? How many playoffs has his team choked away?
November 9th, 2009 at 12:01 am
