Ballin’: Thunder Rip Magic, Stan Van Gundy Rips Team
NBA, Video November 9th. 2009, 10:45am
Orlando 74, Oklahoma City 102: The poor shooting (36 percent from the field, 3-for-16 from three), short-handed Magic plus the hot Thunder (57 percent shooting, 9-for-16 from three) equals this, from Stan Van Gundy: “We have no defensive toughness and right now we aren’t a very good team. The Thunder are much better than us right now. They would have beat us if we had everybody. They would have beat us here or in our place.” Oklahoma City didn’t get its third win until Dec. 19 last season.
New Orleans 88, LA Lakers 104: Another listless performance from the 2-5 Hornets (except Chris Paul – nine assists, no turnovers) – who couldn’t even be competitive despite the Lakers being without Gasol and Bynum. Starting in the middle, DJ Mbenga has 12 points and 12 rebounds. Kobe, who leads the league in scoring (33 a night), had 28 points for the 6-1 Lakers.
Minnesota 93, Portland 116: Great news! Greg Oden played 22 minutes and only committed one foul. In every other game this season, he’d picked up 4 or 5 fouls. Travis Outlaw pumped in 19 points in 18 minutes off the bench.
Golden State 107, Sacramento 120: Amazing stat of the weekend – the Kings are 2-0 without injured Kevin Martin (wrist). After surprising Utah Saturday, Sacramento topped the Warriors on the strength of seven players scoring in double figures, led by 23 from rookie Tyreke Evans. He’s now averaging 15.9 ppg. For the Syracuse fans: Even Donte Greene is playing well. Stack Jack, who led the 1-4 Warriors with 21 points, said, “Another beat down, what can I say?”
Phoenix 102, Washington 90: Nearly two weeks into the season and the 6-1 Suns are the biggest surprise in the league. Channing Frye (18-10) is playing like he did as a rookie in NY, and he’s added the three-point shot. Steve Nash is averaging career bests in points and three-point shooting. The Suns lead the league from deep (46 percent). The Wizards, despite a profanity-laced tirade from injured Antwan Jamison recently, lost for the fifth time in six games since winning their opener.

shitty game. of course SVG is ripping the team. that is what he does. like i said this AM, 4th different lineup in 6 games. Orlando is not full strength. enough with the excuses from me.

you’re right – no VC, no Anderson, still no Lewis. that’s three of their Top 6 players. Tough to win. No excuse for lax D, though.

Durantula.

I’m hitting that OKC over. Finally I make a good NBA bet

i agree 100%. new faces, new places. Once everyone is back, we will see what happens.

Magic are fine I’m not worried. I don’t like the tactic van gundy is using though I think everyone sees through it

Wouldn’t be shocked if the Thunder finish around .500 this year. Durant and Westbrook are both sick.

The Thunder would be a playoff team in the Least, that much we know.

The 28-point win over the Magic was the largest margin of victory ever in Ford Center

Gilbert is referring back to his old ways… Needs more Mike Miller and ‘Twan.
November 9th, 2009 at 11:05 am
Stephen Jackson needs to get the Marbury treatment.

Its amazing what happens when you take a black hole out of the middle of the lane and let Nash do his thing
November 9th, 2009 at 11:09 am
that’s racist

helps when you dont play Orlando either

and Ben Wallace. He has been a defensive force these first couple weeks.

The Suns will cruise to 50 wins simply because they have an identity. Half the league does not.
And yes Irish that does help.

SO 1/10th of the way through, Kobe is your MVP and it’s not even close. No Gasol, Odom shooting 40% (he’s 6′11).. Fisher is done, bench has been awful, and that team is 6-1. Granted, easy schedule. Kobe is becoming a dominant post player and looks like he’s getting better with age. So much fun to watch him play at that level.
November 9th, 2009 at 11:18 am
What’s funny is that Hollinger will say “look at those assist totals…blahhh” fact is, Kobe is carrying the Lakers.

think working with Dream over the summer helped?
November 9th, 2009 at 11:22 am
It was funny this past week, Kobe was quoted as saying “there’s nothing in my game that’s original.” While that probably would draw some criticism, it’s so true. He’s borrowed everything from the game’s best. If you’re going to steal, might as well steal from Jordan and the Dream right? Although Jordan wishes he had Kobe’s footwork and range.

@cursed- i wish Dwight would learn a few things from Dream. I really dont know what Patrick Ewing is doing

Sweating and traveling

We have no defensive toughness and right now we aren’t a very good team
If the Magic are still playing defense like this a month from now, I’ll start to get concerned
November 9th, 2009 at 11:37 am
It’s crazy that working with one of the best centers ever is more helpful to one’s game than rocking a “Check My Stats” shirt in St. Tropez.
November 9th, 2009 at 11:39 am
@clown- but he can come out of nowhere and block shots
November 9th, 2009 at 11:42 am
You know why that Wade play was good, b/c Mike Breen wasn’t there to butcher the call. He’s ruined more NBA finals than the Spurs!

Anyone think OKC is much better this year? Or am I getting ahead of myself this early in the season?

Just you and Bill Simmons.
They’re not a bad team but it’s still very early in the season. The NBA is not the NFL. A bad start isn’t indicative of how you finish.
/angry Hornets fan deluding himself about this team.

me too, and me neither. This guy could be as good as anybody ever was.

Does Ewing do a bad impression of SVP? Maybe he taught Dwight that

I’m staying with the Rockets. I’ve been in Texas 10 years now and the Hornets have never gave me a reason to watch a whole game(other than cp3). Fuck them, they wasn’t there when I left, and they suck. Besides, I got a great deal on T-Mac jerseys(two for 50$, foot locker knew before everyone that he would break down) a few years ago, I might as well wear them.
