Ballin’: Greg Oden Continues to Impress
NBA, Video November 12th. 2009, 10:25am
Cleveland 102, Orlando 93: Was never close. Mo Williams, postseason choker, started 9-for-9 from the floor and finished with 28 points. As for Orlando … it’s still early, and Rashard Lewis has to sit one more game, but … where’s the Magic defense? Cleveland scored 66 in the first half. The Magic are allowing opponents to shoot 47 percent; that’s up from 43 a year ago. LeBron scored 36 after declaring he’s no longer talking about next summer. The much-anticipated showdown between Shaq and Dwight Howard fizzled; Howard picked up two fouls in the first six minutes and took only three shots; Shaq played just 19 minutes.
Atlanta 114, New York 101: The Knicks got smoked in the second half and fell to 1-8. For the second night in a row, FSU rookie Toney Douglas was the lone bright spot, scoring 23 points. July 2010 can’t come soon enough for he Knicks. Imagine the No. 1 pick in June … oops, Isiah traded that away. Bummer. Guess they’ll just have to settle for two high-end free agents! That really is all the Knicks have to look forward to. At some point, D’Antoni is going to have to suck it up and start Jordan Hill. We’re not talking about crushing the confidence of some potential-laden teenager here; start him in the middle with Lee at PF and Gallinari at SF and force these guys to play together.
Portland 107, Minnesota 84: The Blazers are 2-3 with Andre Miller coming off the bench; 4-0 with Miller – who had 10 assists last night – starting. The bigger story, though, was Greg Oden’s 18-11 in 26 minutes … and he didn’t commit a foul! That, friends, is amazing. The Portland bench was 9-of-14 from three; reserve center Joel Przybilla collected the same number of offensive rebounds (3) as the entire Timberwolves team.
Dallas 82, San Antonio 93: The Spurs finally played something resembling defense, and once again newbie Richard Jefferson was a major offensive force (29 points) with Tim Duncan and Tony Parker out of the lineup.
Denver 102, Milwaukee 108: Young Money scored 32 points and was perfect from the foul line late in the game as the lowly Bucks stunned the Nuggets despite 32 points from ‘Melo. The Nuggets opened 5-0 but have dropped three of four on the road. We’re only two weeks into the season, but Jennings (14 points in the fourth) looks terrific. Get that kid on the All-Star ballot!

Is he a freshman in college? That’s pathetic.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:27 am
how bout some love for will bynum?
November 12th, 2009 at 10:28 am
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again:
WHY THE FUCK DID WE TAKE LEE INSTEAD OF JENNINGS?
I really dont get the logic. Even Walsh somewhat regrets passing on the guy.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:30 am
Did you leave off the suns game because of your prediction here
where you said the suns will only win 30 games this season?
November 12th, 2009 at 10:33 am
and as much as I hate that little girl rondo that was a nice play to end the quarter
November 12th, 2009 at 10:33 am
How about that Bulls implosion last night?
November 12th, 2009 at 10:34 am
where’s the Magic defense?
relax chief. Once everyone is back, i can understand the criticism. VC is not 100% healthy either. Jameer Nelson is fucking killing me so far this year. Saw him after the game last night and i told him he needs to be traded in December. he gave me a nice look and then i told him he was #1 with my finger. i was a little pissed off last night.
Howard picked up two fouls in the first six minutes
bullshit calls(for cursedcleveland)
The Magic are allowing opponents to shoot 47 percent; that’s up from 43 a year ago
oh no 4 % in only 9 games
Cavs had 4 days off and that helped them. they came out full of energy and took care of business on the road
November 12th, 2009 at 10:34 am
i was looking forward to TBL shitting all over salmons…what gives
November 12th, 2009 at 10:35 am
D-Ho is averaging 18/10, numbers similar to Z-Bo, Kaman, and David Lee.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:35 am
you really do love basketball. that’s some passion.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:35 am
Got to love “BYNUMITE!!!”
November 12th, 2009 at 10:35 am
Is he a freshman in college? That’s pathetic
Do you even root for an NBA team? and dont say the Knicks, because that is a fucking emabarrassment
November 12th, 2009 at 10:36 am
can’t we all agree that the magic are a different team without Rashard Lewis? That’s kinda a big loss to start the year.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:36 am
According to my “The Young Urban Male in the South Behavioral Guide” if he’s gonna maintain any street cred you were shoved in a wood chipper about eight hours ago.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:37 am
God thats awful…
November 12th, 2009 at 10:37 am
Bosh was pretty monsterous yesterday.
TBL, Oden put up those numbers against a depleted T-Wolves team, I wouldn’t get too excited about it.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:37 am
Howard picked up two fouls in the first six minutes
bullshit calls(for cursedcleveland)
technically, the made the calls up by sitting Shaq with two cheapies too, but those were cheap calls on Dwight early. I quit watching before the first half ended, and fast forwarded through the rest of the blowout.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:37 am
Sorry, I meant Hill. Jesus.
Also, what about Wilson Chandler?
November 12th, 2009 at 10:38 am
that would be the Bulls second half last night.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:38 am
i was looking forward to TBL shitting all over salmons…what gives
I think TBL drunk dialed a bunch of people in Chicago and got it out of his system. He was on fire l last night, though.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:39 am
did you say contract year?
November 12th, 2009 at 10:39 am
D-Ho is averaging 18/10, numbers similar to Z-Bo, Kaman, and David Lee
in 9 games slick. you are better than this. Mavs lost last night to the Spurs w/o Duncan AND Parker. sad
November 12th, 2009 at 10:40 am
Great Gorilla biscuits Pete Rose’s new woman is fine.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:40 am
I do. Although I don’t see why that would matter. You have to admit, that line read pretty bad.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:41 am
Sweet Jesus!
November 12th, 2009 at 10:41 am
And the magic have already beaten the best team in the league, the team to hand miami and boston their only losses so far this year.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:41 am
Greg Oden Continues to Impress
TBL, Oden put up those numbers against a depleted T-Wolves team, I wouldn’t get too excited about it
he will. TBL is going down swinging with O-Done. Lets see Greg play a full season. I bet that wont happen this year either
November 12th, 2009 at 10:41 am
Last nights game means nothing, it was good for the cavs mentally but both teams will look very different by the seasons end. The only thing we “learned” is that Vince is still a ball chucking no defense playing POS, but most people already knew that.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:42 am
Good lord
November 12th, 2009 at 10:42 am
Mavs lost last night to the Spurs w/o Duncan AND Parker. sad
that’s just mean, man.

This is where Irish shines. Good work.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:44 am
yea Pete Rose isnt in the HOF but he fucks bitches like he is.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:45 am
I heard Keith Bogans was on fire.
/runs away crying
November 12th, 2009 at 10:46 am
The only thing we “learned” is that Vince is still a ball chucking no defense playing POS, but most people already knew that
he is chucking. he is having issues still with his ankle and isnt taking it to the hoop with authority. He does play better defense than MJOT though
November 12th, 2009 at 10:47 am
i used that excuse for the cavs last year and you roasted me for it.
MO NAMATH!!! FTW!!!
/nobody will remember this game in april
November 12th, 2009 at 10:47 am
Oden put up those numbers against a depleted T-Wolves team
I know he’s coming off a knee injury, but Al Jefferson was still there, not exactly a bum of a center
/Blazer fan, putting all my cards on the table
November 12th, 2009 at 10:48 am
I heard Keith Bogans was on fire
13 points for big Keith. nothing special. Dirk had a nice game though. he is bringing it this year. he must have a clear head now that he doesnt have to deal with Crystal Taylor
November 12th, 2009 at 10:49 am
i used that excuse for the cavs last year and you roasted me for it
when did Orlando have 4 days off before they played Cleveland? and yes, Mo Namath was on fiyah last night. That is what you needed in the ECF
November 12th, 2009 at 10:51 am
That is what you needed in the ECF
to play against a statue of Jameer Nelson.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:51 am
can’t we all agree that the magic are a different team without Rashard Lewis? That’s kinda a big loss to start the year
Rashard and Ryan Mr Umbrella Anderson will space the floor against the Cavs. We were missing that advantage last night
SVG’s wife passed out at home or something and SVG didn’t do his normal post game presser which is a cant miss. hope she gets well
November 12th, 2009 at 10:52 am
I think the game would have been different had a) Lewis and Anderson been in the game and b) Howard didn’t pick up 2 quick fouls.
Also, I will wait till around the next meeting to gauge just how strong both teams are. Cleveland will eventually find its groove, but come the playoffs, Shaq (and his fat ass) is going to be fatigued, and Mo may likely dissappear some ‘mo like last year.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:53 am
to play against a statue of Jameer Nelson
that production from Mo Namath. Jameer needs to step it up asap. he is getting pwned by opposing pgs
November 12th, 2009 at 10:53 am
Different = a win for the Magic
November 12th, 2009 at 10:54 am
I love how when Orlando drops to Cleveland, everyone says it’s early, doesn’t mean anything, we didn’t have Lewis or Anderson, etc.
If Cleveland would’ve lost that game, we’d be seeing everyone writing about how the Cavs are struggling, they’re not a top tier team, Lebron’s gone, they’re frauds, etc.
I get that it’s early, and ultimately the game won’t matter that much come playoff time, but Cleveland struggled against Orlando in the regular season for quite some time now, and a win in Orlando no matter when in the season it is will always be nice. The matchup problems Cleveland had in the playoffs don’t look to be as big as they were, and I don’t think Lewis will make that much of a difference if we’re playing at full strength as well. Hedo and Lee killed us last season, and they’re gone, so…
I’m more worried about Boston at this point.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:56 am
telling you, the first half of last year was the outlier for Jameer. This is him.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:56 am
I love how when Orlando drops to Cleveland, everyone says it’s early, doesn’t mean anything, we didn’t have Lewis or Anderson, etc
so missing Rashard and Anderson means nothing? you can get all the confidence that you want out of this win. its one win buddy.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:58 am
and I don’t think Lewis will make that much of a difference if we’re playing at full strength as well
Lewis killed the Cavs in the ECF. you must have been drunk, passed out, and beaten to a pulp down in the Flats.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:58 am
I think its because Cleveland has more to prove. That team was a question mark coming into the season with Shaq, and them struggling out of the gates didn’t help the situation.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:58 am
The Nets are the only winless team left. That is awesome.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:59 am
Nothing that happens in Nov matters. Clev needed it more, mentally and record wise.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:59 am
If Cleveland would’ve lost that game, we’d be seeing everyone writing about how the Cavs are struggling
after having 4 days off to prepare, yep.
/hate losing the Cavs
November 12th, 2009 at 11:00 am
I didn’t get a chance to watch the game, but did Shaq do anything particularly douchey? I read he was getting booed on every touch, and something about scoffing at the Superman theme music for Dwight.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:02 am
except season ending injuries
November 12th, 2009 at 11:02 am
This is similar to what someone mentioned last night. When picking winners in the first 50 games of the NBA season, always look to see who is going to be more motivated.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:02 am
i think artest means that 2/3 of what really killed cleveland is gone and that helps the cavs in the long run. shard will definitely will whorelando, but it won’t definitely mean bad things for the cavs.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:03 am
but did Shaq do anything particularly douchey? I read he was getting booed on every touch, and something about scoffing at the Superman theme music for Dwight
he did the same last year. He is the biggest villain in Orlando
November 12th, 2009 at 11:05 am
i would guess the reason from the boos would be their “history” from last season
November 12th, 2009 at 11:08 am
Bigger than Cruella Deville or Captain Hook?
November 12th, 2009 at 11:08 am
i think artest means that 2/3
that guy is a Cavs fan. Of course he is going to favor the Cavs
November 12th, 2009 at 11:09 am
Bigger than Cruella Deville or Captain Hook?
He took them to the Finals, where they got swept. next year, took them back to the ECF where they lost. then he bolts to LA and wins titles. goes to Miami, wins a title. I would say Magic fans are still very bitter about him leaving the Magic for LA
November 12th, 2009 at 11:09 am
don’t forget all the wicked witches.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:11 am
He took them to the Finals, where they got swept. next year, took them back to the ECF where they lost. then he bolts to LA and wins titles. goes to Miami, wins a title. I would say Magic fans are still very bitter about him leaving the Magic for LA
Seems like everybody might hate Shaq before too long, chinks in his “I’m so lovable” armor are coming fast and furious, and it’s so much easier for people to hate you when you start to suck.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:12 am
last year when they beat down the cavs by roughly 400.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:14 am
but irish, you’re right…the cavs needed THAT mo namath back in may. that’s just plain fact.

w/o a doubt Spencer. Namath playing like that will make the Cavs cruise. I was impressed with Mo last night.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:17 am
Of course I’m biased for the Cavs, but I’m not unrealistic. Sure, with a healthy Lewis and Anderson, the Cavs won’t win as easily as they did, but after the All Star break and come playoff time, we’ll have Delonte and Powe in the rotation, which will even some of that out, especially on the defensive end. Shard definitely had a hand in beating the Cavs last season, but Lee shut down Mo who shredded Jameer last night and Hedo was the MVP of that series, IMO. The matchup problems that killed us last year aren’t there this season or at least aren’t as problematic. I think Orlando out thought themselves letting Hedo and Lee go and bringing in VC, but I still think they’re top 3 in the East.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:19 am
he was white hot in the first half…got big balls disease in the 2nd tho.
cavs prolly won’t shoot like that from 3 again and the magic won’t shoot that poorly from 3. it’ll be much closer next time around, so im not reading much into it.
but DAMN did lebrizzy hit some ridiculous shots last night.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:19 am
1. Dwight was fined for calling out refs the other day.
2. The early Dwight Howard calls were complete BS.
3. I bet this was all just one big coincidence.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:20 am
i remember that game…what a nightmare
November 12th, 2009 at 11:20 am
salacious!!!
November 12th, 2009 at 11:22 am
The biggest matchup problem you had last year was their tall wings shooting over your short guards. That hasn’t improved.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:23 am
we’ll have Delonte and Powe in the rotation, which will even some of that out, especially on the defensive end
Bass > Powe
The matchup problems that killed us last year aren’t there this season or at least aren’t as problematic
how can you say that w/o Rashard in the lineup? He will be starting at the 4 spot on Tuesday
November 12th, 2009 at 11:24 am
1. Dwight was fined for calling out refs the other day.
2. The early Dwight Howard calls were complete BS.
3. I bet this was all just one big coincidence
i dont know about that. Shaq is a load to guard
November 12th, 2009 at 11:24 am
In regards to Shaq leaving Orlando, don’t forget that Orlando low balled him. The Lakers offered more money. If you want to hold onto your Superstar, you have got to offer the max. Do you think the Cavs are going to try to give Lebron less than another team when it comes time to sign him? You gotta pay in this league, and Orlando wasn’t willing to do that.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:27 am
You gotta pay in this league, and Orlando wasn’t willing to do that
i dont recall the offer the Magic gave him. what was it again Pilot?

I have no recollection of that offer.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:29 am
shaq’s gotta load in his underoos.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:30 am
The win means nothing for the Cavs. Cleveland has no one who can guard Rashard Lewis, period. Good luck when the Magic are back full strength. What’s the Cavs record against the Magic the last three years?
November 12th, 2009 at 11:31 am
they have this guy, you may have heard of him, lebron james. he won’t have to guard hedo now and can focus on shard. that’s HUGE.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:33 am
What’s the Cavs record against the Magic the last three years?
5 wins out of 17 games. i could be wrong

funny.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:38 am
Yea, but then who guards Vince? I think adding Anderson and Bass, along with Vince, possess the same matchup problems for CLE. Magic still have shooters on the wings like last season. Jameer isn’t playing that great now, but remember they didn’t have him at all last year. CLE needs to get rid of Mike Brown/Shaq and push the ball, Suns-like. I think they could be deadly with a smaller lineup. They need to get Lebron some help, either this year or next in free agency.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:39 am
The 3 point line and age.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:41 am
Very big game tonight. Suns at Lakers to see who gets first in the Pacific. And the good Bynum should be coming back. I haven’t stepped on a crack in 3 days, so i’m confident we’ll see the Next Laker Center tonight. And thankfully ESPN is reporting that Phil was just joking when he said Gasol would be out until Christmas. Still day to day though. But then again, aren’t we all…..
/classic Charlie Steiner’d
November 12th, 2009 at 11:42 am
Quin…who guards vince? moon, parker, west…he’s not 6′10 like hedo…you can guard him with a conventional 2.
and the cavs don’t need to run, don’t be an idiot like barkley. they’ve gotten deep playoff runs out of a reltaively poor roster with defense. but yea, they could run like the suns and win all sorts of championships…oh wait, the suns haven’t won dick. no running team has.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:42 am
Cleveland can just let the open basket gaurd Bass. It’ll take care of itself.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:43 am
Last nights game means very little but what gives me confidence as a Cavs fan is the lack of matchup problems the Magic present. Cavs matchup well now with Shaq able to guard D-Ho and Lebron on Lewis. No longer need to worry about Hedo as West, Parker or Moon can stick with Carter.
Lots of length on the floor last night with Shaq, Z, D-Ho and the Hammer.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:43 am
The Cavs just need to get Amare next year. That’s a championship team. Mo-Parker-Lebron-AV-Amare, Powe-Gibson-Hickson off the bench. Spread the court and let them run.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:44 am
Cleveland can just let the open basket gaurd Bass
ha. you must be talking about that blown layup he missed last night. He needs to improve on defense as well
November 12th, 2009 at 11:45 am
Lots of length on the floor last night with Shaq, Z, D-Ho and the Hammer
Tuna- i cant recall the last time i saw 4 centers on the floor at once in a game
November 12th, 2009 at 11:45 am
please stop.
“amare” and “championship” are two words that don’t belong together. the magic and celts would live in the paint while amare sulks and plays matador.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:47 am
Maybe not Suns-style specifically. The Suns have problems because Nash couldn’t guard a wet blanket. Cleveland still has good individual defenders, and maybe the best help-defender in Lebron. The Lakers just won the title last year with a VERY poor defensive team, with one great defender, so it can be done.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:48 am
November 12th, 2009 at 11:49 am
silly coop, euorpeans don’t count as white.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:52 am
Oden no TO’s too, impressive.
And Quinn, the Lakers were a great Defensive team last year.
No ball movement from O town last night.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:52 am
Please. Until Boston won two years ago, Garnett was dogged for not living in the paint and shooting jumpers all the time, but of course he was also a defensive force. Boston is much more a perimeter team with slashing guards than a team that is going to punish you in the paint. And Orlando will always present problems inside for whatever team they’re playing as long as they have Dwight. If CLE can’t beat em trying to play ORL game, they need to switch it up. They are not going to beat ORL playing their current style of ball come playoff time.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:53 am
It’s fucking November!!!
November 12th, 2009 at 11:55 am
Derek Fisher was abused by every point guard he went up against. Who had heard about Aaron Brooks until that LA-HOU series?
Gasol got punked by Landry/Nene/Martin, etc. Ariza and Kobe were good, that’s about it.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:57 am
It’s fucking November!!!
Yes, well, alright. Your right.

pacers winners of three in a row. Hansborogh had close to another double double
November 12th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
Well he did cost them a few NBA championships by bolting for LA, I know I’d still boo him if I were a Magic fan.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
Derek Fisher was abused by every point guard he went up against. Who had heard about Aaron Brooks until that LA-HOU series?and Shannon was good…
But you are using a few series to judge the Lakers defense the entire year?
The Lakers are a very good defensive team, they are big inside with Pau/Bynum, Odom is versitile at the 4, all these guys are above avg on pick and roll,
the main reason dfish has a job is for Defense (and understanding the triangle) but he is slacking and brown should probably play more.
Lakers were not O town, Boston, Spurs level but very close and could easily be this year

November 12th, 2009 at 12:09 pm
I agree that they could be this year, and Artest really helps them out. Brown is good defensively, but Fisher plays so many minutes he does become a defensive liability. The problem with Odom and Bynum is that sometimes they just look lost out there on defense; they don’t play instinctively. Pau is just too skinny and timid, like every European ball player.
Of course you don’t win a title without being adequate on D. I’m just saying the Cavs are too focused on maintaining their defensive strength, and instead need to change up their style of play to give the Magic a new look, because they aren’t going to beat them playing their current style of ball.

Geez, I know man. I was just overly excited, though wins still count toward playoff positioning. Same as in April. I guess you wanted a chance to use the cool slashes, like the grownups do! No worries mate, though i’ll have to repost something I said after Sparty originally pointed that out to me:
Yes, well, alright. Your right.

Dare I say, rookie of the year?
In other news, Contract the f’n Hornets!
