The Death of the Spread Offense
College Football November 12th. 2009, 12:20pm
The Big 12 had five teams averaging over 40 points per game last year, and five teams passed for over 300 yards a game. This year, only two teams (Texas, Texas Tech) are scoring 40 a game, and only two teams (Texas Tech, Kansas) are passing for over 300 a game. These facts, along with Nebraska and Kansas State surging to the top of the Big 12 North on the strength of ground games, have lead some to believe that perhaps the spread offense is dead. “Teams in our conference are slowly but surely fading out of the spread offense. I think it goes back to the old adage that coaches want to run the ball, control the clock and play great defense,” said portly Kansas coach Mark Mangino. [KC Star]

also Defenses are now catching up with the spread.

Where is NickP with his small sample sizes?
November 12th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
thank god! that schlock has done more to ruin the development of quarterbacks than the run-and-shoot.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
Just glancing at the top 25, it looks like about half the teams there run the spread or a variation of the spread. I wouldn’t say it is dead, it has just plateaued.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
there’s football on today!
November 12th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
the spread is dead, LONG LIVE THE SPREAD!!!
November 12th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
also one can factor in — since this appears to be just about the big XII — that bradford was hurt and the missouri quarterback went to the nfl. so oklahoma and missouri have had to use backups.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
Is OK fazing out the spread or breaking in a new, freshman QB? The latter.
Is Missouri fazing out the spread or breaking in a new, sophomore QB? The latter.
Is OK State fazing out the spread or just simply not as good as last year? The latter.
Defenses might be faster and I’m sure time/scheme has caught up to the spread, but that doesn’t mean the spread is “dead.”
November 12th, 2009 at 12:30 pm
Amen! I’ve been waiting for any type of football post today to ask if anyone has any strong feelings on the game tonight. I’m thinking the Niners handle the Bears.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:30 pm
that schlock has done more to ruin the development of quarterbacks than the run-and-shoot.
The spread is just a variant of the run and shoot. So you can put Chase Daniel in the same garbage can you put Andre Ware.

this is funny.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:32 pm

November 12th, 2009 at 12:33 pm
So last year the Big 12 put up monster numbers and people said, It’s because the defenses suck.
Now, they put up modest numbers and it’s because, Spread doesn’t work?
November 12th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
triston…i think it’s more that the big XII in general sucks.
gayest. conference. EVAR!!!
November 12th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
Also, Reesing has had a hurt groin all of this year, that’s why he’s sucked. Sure, he’s still leading the conference in passing, but he’s not the same Todd.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
The spread is a philosphy NOT an offense.

November 12th, 2009 at 12:35 pm
Rather convenient comment when his team tried to continue to run it but sucks.
Ndub is right. TBL you are making long-term judgements based on short-term cycles. A team needs the right personnel, including especially a special real passer of a quarterback, to run this offense successfully, and it is not dead.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:37 pm
They’re the 2nd best passing team in the conference dude.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:38 pm
Pay no attention to the fact that the Big XII North is awful, or that the number 1 team in the nation runs a spread offense, or that teams all over the country are using the spread and its philosophies to turn their programs around. I must have missed the memo that the Big XII North was the barometer for all of college football.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:38 pm
Except when domintating the Big 11 in bowl games, right? Right?
Oh, you meant this year. Yeah, you’re right. Just above the Big 11
November 12th, 2009 at 12:39 pm
New England runs a ton of spread formations, and they’ve always been successful with it. But they have a guy who who throw really good 5 yard outs, really quickly.

November 12th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
TBL you are making long-term judgements based on short-term cycles.
I don’t think TBL made any judgments in that paragraph. Example:
These facts, along with Nebraska and Kansas State surging to the top of the Big 12 North on the strength of ground games, have lead some to believe that perhaps the spread offense is dead.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:44 pm

November 12th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
so…college football?
November 12th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
correct, he didn’t make any judgments in that paragraph. it just happens to be the title of his post.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:46 pm
I also find it amusing that the play diagrammed above is one that Georgia Tech runs. I’d say their offense is humming along pretty good.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
i should have said entertaining. at least college football is actually watchable, unlike a bunch of retards throwing up bricks and everyone saying how college kids care about defense.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
fag.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
Mizzou lost a badass WR, badass TE and a QB who ran the spread for 8 years going back to HS. Nebraska lost its QB, top-2 WR’s and is on it’s 4th string RB due to injuries. The offenses are down because the talent is down, not because the spread has been figured out. If Gresham and Bradford had not been hurt they would have a ton of stats as well. This is a knee-jerk thought in my opinion. Fla, GT, Texas, Cincy, Boise, Oregon, etc.. all run a spread. Now, it does help the B12 that Texas, OU and Nebraska all have significantly better defenses from a year ago.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
correct, he didn’t make any judgments in that paragraph. it just happens to be the title of his post.
All that does is say what the KC Star article is about though. You know what, it’s not really important.

November 12th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
izzo is a douche.
November 12th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
That’s the key. This stuff works its way from the lower levels upward, not the other way around. As long as there are a ton of kids that ran something other than pro-style offense in high school, you’ll see those offenses in college. Don’t look now, but you’re starting to see the philosophies in the NFL as well. Like dirt said, the Pats run an offense based on the spread philosophy, and the Dolphins have fully embraced the single wing/wildcat philosophies, and run that pretty well, no matter what the Jets defense may tell you in the media.

I could give a shit about that study. What is needed but won’t happen or is just not publicised is a real study on marijuana’s high gateway effect to stronger drugs.
Otherwise it is a pointless debate on this highly-druggy site, as those who have been on marijuana week-in week-out for years will affirm that it is NOT addictive. I have yet to meet one person disagreeing who does not smoke it regularly.
And then of course weeks later, these same folks seldom remember even sports arguments like much of the rest of life.
They live on their own timeless own time, and if that is their choice great but don’t give me this shit that they are EQUAL members of society making judgements unimpaired.

(If you smoke it regularly now, no need to respond because we know your opinion in your smoke-filled haze or otherwise; of course whatever it is it is only for the moment and you won’t remember much tomorrow)
Good luck with your life and being stoned, and I hope you don’t make it to rehab and just give us a cheaper alternative to your rehab.
The only thing wrong is when society has to pay for the consequences of your “right” to smoke it when things go bad.

Because this would make sense. The fact that Cigs and Alcohol are legal, yet weed isn’t has nothing to do with what is or is not harmful and everything to do with weed being a threat to the aforementioned groups’ bottom line. The minute William Morris Co. figures out how to grow and sell weed for insane profits they will back legalizing it. Again, the side affects to weed pale in comparison to many drugs made by Pfizer and GSK.

November 12th, 2009 at 1:21 pm

True, though I first got high and lost my virginity at too you an age while drunk. As for marijuana’s addictiveness, I have been addicted to a hard substance (opiates: vicodin, oxycontin, et al. even tried snorting heroin a few times because i’m afraid of needles). I’m not trying to brag or anything stupid like that. I’m just saying i’ve felt the sickness, the pain, the anxiety, depression, sleeplessness and uncontrollable cravings. It’s pure hell. Weed, on the other hand, is basically Atari 2600 compared to that. No withdrawal. A little insomnia. But you won’t rob houses or pawn all your stuff to get a dub sack.

Ballz does not count as a pothead with his medical scrip so long as that is it for him. He’s legal and I am okay with that even where illegal, but it is seldom used legitimately for such medical purposes where illegal. None of my business though if not for Ballz it’s his life.

and that was a pretty nice response. there’s no rage here, i smoke too much to get upset in a petty argument. see? weed is good!
/science
November 12th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
Bullshit! You have NOT been to Las Vegas or many other urban weed-havens. They are peaceful like that in Colorado though.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
i will say that tobacco would be. first thing most people try are cigs.
caffeine comes first, unless you count sugar, which would make you lame.
Paolo, I don’t smoke the weed, but I support its legalization and taxation, both for medical and recreational use.
It’s not a gateway it’s a path, everybody chooses where they get off. Spot one doesn’t make you go to spot two.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
It means she really is over Steve Phillips.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
You have NO fucking clue what your talking about. The people robbing houses are crack addicts…they might smoke pot, but it’s the crack that has them stealing
November 12th, 2009 at 1:32 pm
ummm, I have never had a weedhead try to sell me a dvd player. ever.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:32 pm
eh, don’t 100% agree with that. part of addicition is about chasing a high.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:32 pm
i have. nobody i know who smokes weed, and weed only, commits crimes.
hell, we rarely get off our asses even to get food. it’s not digornio, it’s delivery.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:32 pm
A physician has his name and license on the line for Ballz Spencer for starters, so there is a MAJOR difference.
Go back to your illegal stuff and get over your rage.
Enjoy it illegally irrespective of the ultimate consequences or your willfully impaired judgement. May the consequences of consistent impaired judgement, even when you are NOT using, be swift, peaceful and inexpensive to society as a whole too. Same for you Gods.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:33 pm
Who the fuck goes to rahab for weed? Seriosuly. If you are rehab for weed you are a fucking idiot and you being an idiot should not fuck things up for the normal people. My wife comes home and has a glass of wine to wind down, how the fuck is that any different than coming home and taking a bong rip to wind down?
November 12th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
By definition that’s false.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
yes. smoked pot for years, never pulled the Home Depot scam to score weed.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
Ballz does not count as a pothead with his medical scrip so long as that is it for him. He’s legal and I am okay with that even where illegal, but it is seldom used legitimately for such medical purposes where illegal. None of my business though if not for Ballz it’s his life.
you realize that ballz is probably smoking shit that 1,000x more potent than what i smoke, right?
Thanks for being respectful to me guys(seriously, not sarcastic), but I really didn’t want to start a big debate/argument. I will say, though, that in the past two months I think I only smoked like 2 or 3 times. I got my scrip originally to help with opiate withdrawal symptoms like insomnia, pain, anxiety, depression, and I wasn’t eating either. I was basically anorexic and bulemic. I wouldn’t ever eat, but when I did, guilt and the desire to take pills on an empty stomach would compel me to induce myself to vomit. I was kicking pills and at the same time had my heart ripped out by a chick. That was awful and I don’t do well with stuff like that. But time helped. Sometimes shit still bothers me, and when it does I know I can get high and feel MUCH better. Heck, not smoking as much means whenever I do smoke, I get ripped, which is good!
November 12th, 2009 at 1:36 pm
my shit may be illegal, but while ballz is buying his, im getting mine from the guy who grows it, so i see the plants 3-5 times a week whenever i hang out with him.
i know EXACTLY where my shit’s coming from and what’s going into it.
but keep generalizing…it’s fun.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:36 pm
Aren’t you in Cali, Ballz?
November 12th, 2009 at 1:36 pm
well, that ain’t true.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:37 pm
Suck a dick.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:37 pm
Paolo, do you agree with medical drugs? I’m a ‘pothead’ in part because it helps me relax at night (or on a weekend morning, woot!) and in part because I find it to be the least addictive and damaging to my body than alcohol or any of the medical drugs I’ve been prescribed. I find medical drugs to be way harsher than taking a toke from the peace pipe, or pulling a tube. I guess my question is do you hate prescription drugs and alcohol as much as you hate pot?
November 12th, 2009 at 1:37 pm
nobody I, PERSONALLY know, sparty.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:37 pm
i know EXACTLY where my shit’s coming from and what’s going into it.
and this all goes back to my point about organic farming. The circle of life folks.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
My wife comes home and has a glass of wine to wind down, how the fuck is that any different than coming home and taking a bong rip to wind down?
My wife has a glass of wine if it was a good day, two if it was a bad day, and a gin and tonic if it was shitty (and we have limes).
November 12th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
no because he’s either a hypocrite or has an agenda.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
the wine smells better?
November 12th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
Spencer, the act of smoking weed is a crime. That’s not even really semantics. It might be a stupid law (I think it’s a stupid law) but you are committing a crime by doing it.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
The TBL Marijuana “Scoreboard”
Potheads Who Can’t Get Enough Of It And Are Hooked:
Trey, Makblunt (who is cool and apathetic about it), Gods, Spencer
Reasoned Dissenters:
Ballz, TST, Sparty, Dirtheavy
Valued Members Of The Audience Commenting:
Jimmy, Mizerle06
…so the readers know whenever this discussion surfaces again what the potheads will say often well before they rage and rant not to mention misstate my position as explained clearly above.
Again if they are hooked or used the stuff regularly, their opinion obviously is going to be what it is usually without reason.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
im pretty sure trey doesn’t smoke.
i’ll begrudgingly agree because it’s completely true.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
I knew with this number of posts about the spread offense, it was either Paolo or another Brazilian porn day.
cj: plump ass from clearwater? Might be one of tampa’s exes.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:42 pm
hug it out, bitches.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:42 pm
Bullshit! You have NOT been to Las Vegas or many other urban weed-havens. They are peaceful like that in Colorado though.
I thank you again for seeing it from my view Paolo, but I live in SoCal and have been to Vegas many times. Meth lab galore out there. And as for going to rehab for weed, when I was in rehab a speaker who always told the same jokes came to one of our NA meetings every week and said “if your here for pot, go home and get yourself a real drug. People who know, KNOW.
/doesn’t want to pile on the fella.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:42 pm
No way.
Paolo, why the hate for weed? Seriously. What is it about it that you hate (or fear) so much. You never answer this. You always deflect the question and rant and rave about nonsense.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:44 pm
-”You said looks like someone’s tokin some reefer, what’d you mean by that huh?”
-”nothing. just smelled some pot that’s all. just an observation”
-”oh an observation? who the hell are you? isaac fuckin newton? so i’m smokin some weed, so i’m a fuckin pothead! what’s it to you? huh? out of observations? why don’t you observe while i kick your ass.”
November 12th, 2009 at 1:44 pm
What he’s saying is: #killyaself
November 12th, 2009 at 1:44 pm
Paolo…I don’t smoke pot…haven’t smoked pot in years.
In my line of work I deal with a lot of potheads, cokeheads, and pillheads.
The worst? The people using the legal prescription drugs. They’ll do anything to get their hands on them.
I am not a pothead, never really been a pothead, and never plan on it.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
wait, Why am I in the “hooked on pot” list. It’s been 13 f’n years!!!
It’s because I’m black, isn’t it? You racist bastard!
November 12th, 2009 at 1:47 pm
It’s because I’m black, isn’t it? You racist bastard!
Wait a minute, you’re black?
November 12th, 2009 at 1:47 pm
i thought you were cajun.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
I KNEW it!!!!
November 12th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
Is this what his rage is about? That it’s illegal? Fucking speeding is illegal and hurts/kills more people than pot does, why not bang on everyone who sped into work today?
November 12th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
I think I need to move up on the list Paolo. I definitely can’t watch “Parks and Recreation” without it.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
You ever suck dick for weed?
November 12th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
maybe creole, but not cajun. I can’t speak that shit.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
Bbryan thanks for a reasoned comment even as you admit yourself a pothead. I have news for you though in that if you use it nightly, you are hooked. Try going one week without it. I hear this from many a user who affirms they are NOT hooked.
Yes I am against much of the Rx industry as it runs, but of course we are better off with all the advances than without them. Homeopathic and natural remedies just would not do the whole job but have a greater place, but at least the focus is now on prevention of bad health by more people than ever though obesity is at a record high enough even for the NFL to have been involved for the sake of the kids.
The government is not involved near enough in protecting the food supply in the US either, as we eat more food with additives and artifical fillers than just about any country on the globe.
On alcohol, it is an adult choice but should be further regulated outside private residences but not with what has become onerous and fa$ci$t drinking and driving enforcement (one drink does not equal “impaired” like in too many areas now). At least more states have opened up to more points of sales for those who are social drinkers like me.
Of course if one has to drink alone without a meal to go with it daily, of course I am against that because that’s usually an alcoholic but at least there is solid help for them.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
nothing more disturbing that working in a rehab, and finding a pill head on the floor of the bathroom, legs spread wide open, and pulling out a bottle of pills from her vage.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
I used to smoke the weed, for a long, long time.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
Miz,
It must be true
November 12th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
Marijuana on one, reefer on two…
November 12th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
stopped me in my tracks too.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
If I could bet, I would put it on more than 50% of those who have tried pot went to try something else. A substantial portion get hooked. Spot one sure does not make one go to spot two, but for some folks they cannot get off the train when already impaired.
That’s where I disagree with you TST. It’s not a “slippery slope” for too many folks it’s a path straight down.
And that is what ought to be studied and disclosed even more before just admitting folks to rehab on the company or government tab.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
Weed? Gimme a fucking break. Going a week without weed is easy as pie you dumb fuck.
Wow. All I can say is wow.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
And what about “spread offenses” that primarily run the ball?
November 12th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
Jesus.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
i’ve quit smoking on a whim numerous times. wanna know why i start up again? because it’s awesome and costs $50 a week and im not hungover.
if that makes me an addict, i don’t care.
i could quit week LIKETHIS. i don’t think i could EVER quit caffeine. and quitting tobacco would be HUGE. but weed? that shit’s easy.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
how the fuck did you pass our company urine test?
November 12th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
It depends if the QB smokes weed.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
Perhaps for you Gods this is true, but that is hardly not the case for so many.
See if you can go a month and let us know then? Just do it instead of talking about it as you puff away on the next social occasion that arises. I would love to hear of your successful experience in that regard for once.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
exactly what i said when i opened the door and saw her.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
I thought Dirt had already proclaimed it to the world:
I’m a black, Saints fan
November 12th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
”oh an observation? who the hell are you? isaac fuckin newton? so i’m smokin some weed, so i’m a fuckin pothead! what’s it to you? huh? out of observations? why don’t you observe while i kick your ass.”
Good job Maver1ck. Except you skipped the part when Clint says “then why’d you say that, chief!?”. I just like when he calls him chief.
The worst? The people using the legal prescription drugs. They’ll do anything to get their hands on them.
That’s probably true. That was me. And I still have dreams about coming up on pills or swiping some. Almost every night. And I got out of rehab on July 7th. I was there for 2 months plus a week in detox(my second detox stint). And if I saw someones else’s pills or any bottle that had one of the magic words on it(hydrocodone, oxycontin, etc.) I KNOW i’d take it without a thought or even a blink. It’ll be with me my whole life. Pot helped me immensely. Believe me. I’m not bullshitting.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
So without pot these people would never have tried anything else?
November 12th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
for all of you that don’t understand addiction, don’t make comments like this.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
You need to get more upset about this. Our food supply is more terrifying than these reefer fiends.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
i would make this bet in a second.
my roommate comments on here too…he can verify that i wouldn’t be smoking. care to make a bet?
November 12th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
How I wish too …that was some fine Chilean ass too. Tampa had a hot Latina girlfriend but he did not say where she was from.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
I haven’t smoked weed for over 50 days now, and I was an “everyday” smoker for the last 4+ years of college.
/Upcoming drug test, date TBD
//50+ days is still impressive, right?
November 12th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
Sparty, the Brazilian porn thread was yesterday.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
So without pot these people would never have tried anything else?
Isn’t it more the type of person who would be willing to try weed is more apt to be the type of person who would be willing to try harder drugs? Just like you’re unlikely to find someone who tried weed who never drinks?
November 12th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
no. but it is typically the first illegal substance most people try, because there is no fear of taking a hit and then ending up ODing.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:58 pm
Tampa? I thought you were a Bears fan?
/a few weeks ago’d
November 12th, 2009 at 1:59 pm
Trey, my apologies you threw me off with this and previous comments.
Okay you are not a pothead, but affirmatively we disagree on this point likely based on different experiences with such folks.
Mine is from the law enforcement side of matters indirectly.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
you’re all missing the seedy underbelly of this story…what was sparty doing in the women’s bathroom?
November 12th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
peeing sitting down.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
unisex bathroom, buddy!
November 12th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
Weed is not a physical addiction like other substances. Quitting weed (as I did after smoking it for 4 straight years and smoking a ton of it) was easy and I’m exaggerating. I would have a harder time giving up sweet tea than I would pot.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:02 pm
Makblunt I must have misunderstood your previous post and your screen name. Okay thanks for reminding us that you are black what is your point other than to joke around?
Makblunt is just misnomered and not a pothead then. I think.
Bump TST up to pothead status, but even so he seems a bit more reasoned like bbryan somehow. Maybe it’s just a weekly tradition for him instead of daily or at every social event.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
gods- i am going to assume that you drink alcohol. would you call yourself addicted to it?
November 12th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
nothing more disturbing that working in a rehab, and finding a pill head on the floor of the bathroom, legs spread wide open, and pulling out a bottle of pills from her vage.
Wow. All I can say is wow.
Very true. Not trying to make it a pissing contest, but that, and alot worse happens in those places. Detox and rehabs. It’s amazing that I was around over a hundred other addicts and alcoholics while there and almost none of them even like to smoke weed. It made them all paranoid. I couldn’t believe it. Especially the alcoholics. They were almost anti-weed.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
smoking weed DID lead me into a more serious drug. Smoking cigars. I quit that shit too, but it was MUCH harder to do.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
I’m an all Saints fan
November 12th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
I thought Dirt had already proclaimed it to the world:
I’m a black, Saints fan
Nobody listens to me. Even I forgot.
MakBlunt is a Black Saints fan. I proclaim it yet again! He’s also not as frustrated with the Hornets as he was this morning, but the more he thinks about it, he’s going to realize that this was a cheap cost cutting move anyway.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
Thanks for the reasoned answer. I just got off a 3 week clense where i avoided herb, alcohol, white flour & sugar, red meat & caffine. So yes I can stop for awhile. I also had no problem stopping for a month over a year ago when I had to get a new job.
If you consider pot a gateway drug, do you also give that same label to alcohol? Most pot smokers I know (myself included) had alcohol before they had weed.
I agree with this 1,000,000%. It’s criminal what some of these companies put in our food, and it’s criminal that schools will teach 4 year of english, but only 3 months of peronal health and only 3 months of personal finance. But that is an argument of another day I suppose.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
Absolutely. They would have stayed legal like all but a few of us like me. Ask your pot-smoking friends yourself what else they have tried before trying to argue against my point, but then again in a few days you’ll conveniently or impaired forget about all this chat just as you have your lame past commentary about SEC and Nebraska and Southern superiority Gods.
Enough of that let’s not go there again we fuckin’ hate each others’ guts and that’s no secret for months on here. Hope you get to the grave peacefully having fun stoned though!
November 12th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
only reason i ask Gods, is because there is a big difference between the physiological and the psychological addiction.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
I don’t drink much alcohol. I drink on Saturday’s for football, but after that I don’t do it much. I can’t stand being hungover and the feeling of being drunk has very little appeal to me. I drink 1-2 beers a week when football is done. So no, I am not addicted.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
I’m… not giving up food. Most of that stuff is delicious!
November 12th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
Isn’t this an argument to legalize pot? I mean, what pot really does is teach kids that a drug that isn’t very dangerous is illegal, so this other stuff they’ve been told that is actually quite dangerous also must be relatively safe.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
I finally gave up on them. I moved back to the Rockets.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
i’ve never tried coke or heroin. taken oxy a few times and didn’t like it. taken adderall and other RX stimulants but didn’t get addicted. never tried acid. eaten mushrooms a handful of times, but don’t really want to ever again.
i’ve drank booze six times since new years eve.
/and thanks to one of those times, i have an embarassing pic that miz always fucking posts
November 12th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
Just like usual, you don’t answer anything and rant about nonsense. Also, if you think I believe southerners are superior you are dumber than I thought. I think Southern women are hotter than northern women and the weather is better. That’s all. Now go suck a dick.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
Weed? Gimme a fucking break. Going a week without weed is easy as pie you dumb fuck.
Well, for me, going without weed would be like not being able to watch your favorite TV show or sports or something. It kinda sucks, you’d rather be doing it, but it’s ok. That may not be the best metaphor. My body SCREAMED for pills. I NEEDED them. When I mentioned withdrawal symptoms above, I forgot the constant sweating. You’d be cold as hell, but you’d have to change shirts during the day and your sheets at night because of all the sweating that goes on during detox. Quitting weed for me was like quitting soda.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:12 pm
I finally gave up on them. I moved back to the Rockets.
Come on over to Dallas. They need support, and at least they’ll make the playoffs.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
The government is not involved near enough in protecting the food supply in the US either, as we eat more food with additives and artifical fillers than just about any country on the globe.

//see what i did there?
November 12th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
fixed.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
And your point TST?
Alcohol is both legal and not as commonly addictive, often due to genetics when it is and faciliated more greatly by hard times and oddly enough bad weather, as are those harder ILLEGAL drugs.
No doubt alcoholism and legal Rx addiction have their social costs as well not to mention resulting violence, but the vast majority of folks use these substances responsibly by either volition or be enforcement of laws.
Find me someone who uses something harder than marijuana responsibly if not marijuana itself in too many cases (as in usually not irresponsibly when one is on the beach in Mexico or private at home, et cetera)
November 12th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
and at least they’ll make the playoffs

November 12th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
Spence, I believe you mentioned that you play guitar once or twice..
Try doing coke one night during a jam session with a friend or two. It won’t kill you. Then never do it again. (that’s what I did)
November 12th, 2009 at 2:16 pm
I don’t like Dirk. I do like Cuban as an owner. Maybe I’ll go to one of their games. I’ve never been to one NBA game in my life.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:16 pm
it’s legal sure, but how can you say it’s not addictive? that’s just false.
right, because they’re available and the simple use of them isn’t illegal.
if weed was illegal, then THE VAST MAJORITY of people would use that responsibly as well.
your argument, flat out, SUCKS.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
That pic is excactly how I pictured Spence.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
and at least they’ll make the playoffs

you’re killing me today, Irish. I need to go find Jersey and take my aggressions out on him and his 50 win Grizzlies.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
I hope I didn’t come off as too preachy or too eager to tell my sob story. I just wanted to present the point of view of someone who’s been through it. Who’s felt real addiction, and also smoke copious amounts of weed in his past, both legally and illegally. I should add I didn’t go doctor shopping for my scrip. My regular doc offered it to me.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
In my younger days i smoked a whole lotta dope and it lead me to other stuff (basically because i have a genetic addictive personality) but i wouldn’t exactly say its a gateway drug, it really depends on the person. I know people who have smoked for 15 years and refuse to touch anything else other than the hippie lettuce, me on the other hand got bored and moved on. I don’t smoke anymore (makes me paranoid and retarded). just thought i’d add my two cents
November 12th, 2009 at 2:19 pm
That pic is excactly how I pictured Spence.
It certainly puts his ranting and raving into perspective.
@ Mak – you don’t like Dirk? That’s retarded.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:19 pm
What the fuck is this shit? Booze is so much “worse” for you than weed and it is not even close. You also seem to hung up on the legality of weed. If it were legalized tomorrow would you say it was okay in moderation?
November 12th, 2009 at 2:19 pm
you’re killing me today, Irish

I hate power forwards that shoots mostly jumpers and don’t rebound. Mostly David West, but Dirk falls into that catergory as well. He’s great from the outside, don’t get be wrong. If he was a reeeeaaaallly tall small forward, I wouldn’t mind. But don’t take the power out of PF.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:23 pm

Then NEVER do it! You won’t know what you’re missing and you won’t be tempted to chase it. There is a reason those drugs are so addictive. They make you feel better than you ever thought possible, albeit in different ways. Stay golden Ponyboy!

Meet enough folks not of Northern European descent including Italians, Greeks, Spaniards, Latin Americans, et cetera and you’ll see this is clearly the case. Cultural attitudes towards drinking vary greatly, and such attitudes are re-inforced as in my case by upbringing.
I won’t go into my personal preferences now or her, because the average American is quick to label anyone with a vast knowledge of booze an alcoholic.
Many such folks like me drink only socially or when visiting friends, which in recent times is not too often for me even when I was out with my girlfriend for awhile.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
where the hell is Big Brain on Brett’s weekly whatever it’s called? It’s pissing contest week, revisited, around here.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
im usually in the same boat, but i love dirk like my long lost brother.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:26 pm
You did it the right way Ballz and more power to you and to Bbryan who are honest about your situations, but I sure hope there is a pathway for you OFF the stuff at some point.
If that is what you want that is …to be continued another day perhaps …
November 12th, 2009 at 2:26 pm
brett’s doing “research.”
November 12th, 2009 at 2:26 pm
anybody that says THC isn’t an addictive agent, is fucking out of their mind. some people are more apt to a physical and psychological addiction than others. if you say otherwise, gods particularly, you are speaking out of ignorance, again.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
but i love dirk like my long lost brother.
there’s not a bigger star or better player in the NBA that gets fewer calls his way. The refs don’t understand that guy. He’s easily one of the all decade team, though. And he gets a lot of rebounds on a non-rebounding team.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
I have zero desire to be hyper. Just not my style I guess.
It’s a special kind of hyper. I wouldn’t even call it hyper. It’s a euphoric, outgoing, industriousness, followed by a crash that comes quicker and gets worse the more you do it. You pay for the euphoria.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:28 pm
Good lord no. Needles give me the willies. I love the feeling that weed brings and that is fine by me. No need to go after more than that.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:28 pm
No dude you are just stoned or stupid most of the time even when not smoking it …just accept it and quit denying it and hope that your South like that apparent tattoo of Dixie on your penis will rise again.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:28 pm
with that said…no problem with decriminalizing weed, as long as alcohol is legal.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
brett’s doing “research.”
He was here this morning, for about a millisecond, in the comments of the roundup. He basically announced his presence, and disappeared when nobody got all excited.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
id agree…what he did against the spurs before getting salvatore’d in the finals was straight up pimp-balls-amazing
November 12th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
Wait, so 90210 is on?
November 12th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
It’s a mental addiction for sure. But (at least in my experience) it is one that is very easy to curb. The only time you miss it is when you’re bored. High and bored > bored.
I’m from Nebraska you stupid prick, I live in the South. Big difference.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
Brett needs some major competition to get him to up his game and analysis. It has sucked majorly all season for college football on here, and we hope damn well that TBL Godfather can do better.
Or maybe this just is not a college football site? But damn do they love their lame college basketball! Or does the latter make for better gambling for them?
November 12th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
You did it the right way Ballz and more power to you and to Bbryan who are honest about your situations, but I sure hope there is a pathway for you OFF the stuff at some point.
Thank you. I felt bad because I was spilling my guts and because i’ve never written such long comments. It’s the opposite of the goofy shit I usually write. And since nobody was responding to them I thought I alienated myself or came off sounding like a DARE cop, or some drug no-it-all who was just bragging about how hard core he is. Talking about that shit does help me. I’d really like to thank you guys for listening(maybe) and, once again, being cool about it.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
Ah okay the worst of both douchebag worlds okay you hilljack I sit corrected …fuck you Gods smoke another one all the way to your prompt peaceful Southern grave you jackass douchebag fuck!
November 12th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
if we didn’t just engage in a 200 word argument, i’d give you a huge high five.
aw fuck it.
/high fives paolo
November 12th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Ballzdeep- you and i need to get a cup of coffee.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Fist bump spencer the rest is cool with you. And may OSU win the Big Televen as Iowa was never worthy even with Stanzi and Penn State obviously did not show up even at home, but man what a weak conference again. Then again, all the conferences are down this year.
It’s hard for me to pick between Texas and Florida and Alabama now as opposed to a few weeks ago. Each of them is maturing its games as is OSU. Hopefully Pryor works on his awkward passing skills in the off-season.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
ballz…na, you’re cool. i just can’t relate at all and would feel like a dick jsut saying “damn man…” over and over.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
It’s a mental addiction for sure. But (at least in my experience) it is one that is very easy to curb. The only time you miss it is when you’re bored. High and bored > bored.
Your body can develop a chemical addiction to pretty much anything that is over used. Sugar, salt, caffeine, etc. Whether you can live with the symptoms, that’s the rub. When I don’t drink coffee, around 5 pm I get a splitting headache. When I didn’t smoke weed, It would take me HOURS to fall asleep. I did smoke a ton though. So there is a chemical addiction associated with THC, as well as psychological.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
id like alabama more if they could, you know, score a TD. still like em more than UF…
texas is the king, right now tho. and you have no idea how much it pains me to say that.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
you give me the heebie jeebies Ballz. I think you and Sparty should seriously talk.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
my wife tried to stop drinking coffee…went 2 months…said fuck it and may be drinking more than ever now.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
i tried to stop drinking coffee and red bulls and realized it’s just not worth it.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
That’s impressive Maverick and hardly the norm. Congrats to you too, but don’t go back to it. Replace it with food and exercise and more sex perhaps.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
Ballzdeep- you and i need to get a cup of coffee.
Sounds groovy dude. And that would give me a chance to set you straight about your top 10 football players of the last 30 years list! No Rice/Montana?! Jerry only scored more TD’s and gained more yards than anybody, ever! All within our lifetime!
ballz…na, you’re cool. i just can’t relate at all and would feel like a dick jsut saying “damn man…” over and over.
Roger, Spence. Understood.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
I don’t know about Texas. They have played one good defense all year long (OU) and they made McCoy look really average. They have no running game at all either. The BCS title game is going to be really low scoring I think. The Longhorn defense is stout, though.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
if you use groovy in a sentence, the conversation will end right there.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
Ballz, Sparty is bad at lists. He’s even worse at making brackets that include the top 64 sports movies of ever.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
I like coke…
November 12th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
Coffee is definitely addictive, and I am not sure it is just the caffeine. Most annoying are all those coffee-people in the mornings at any given workplace. So perky so cheery so loud so annoying as if on booze!
I am allergic to coffee but it is not the caffeine, as sugar-free energy drinks have been my redemption for those days when I have to get up early as naturally I am a night person.
I went to school ten years too early on that count and suffered those cold mornings mercilessly to make sure to put up the good grades. No more of that shit except when I have to go to corporate training, for which it is still hard for me to adjust to a day shift.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
what bracket is made?
November 12th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
i love the taste. my wife working at starbucks made me a snob with all the taste testings i sat through.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
Sounds groovy dude
/Not everyone in Cali talks like me. Honest.

you give me the heebie jeebies Ballz.
Made me laugh. Why, praytell?
Replace it with food and exercise and more sex perhaps.
Masturbation. Don’t forget masturbation.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:49 pm
Man, I always miss the drug rants and Paolo’s sensitivity and understanding training sessions..
November 12th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
Man, I always miss the drug rants and Paolo’s sensitivity and understanding training sessions..
you gotta start ditching health class, Matty.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
the blue monsters?
that’s my drink of choice.
and exercise is definitely addicting. as is food. i’ve battled both of those.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
if you use groovy in a sentence, the conversation will end right there.
Funny. I use “groovy” alot when I talk as well as write. “Holy Smokes” to. Yea, my friends/family think it’s weird.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Dude. You guessed he was 27 like 3 days ago. New joke time. Move it along.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
Is it ironic that I skipped health class to go get high and have a couple brews?
For some reson Dirt has grown on me, like an abusive father I just can’t quit loving.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:56 pm
I can go back to ignoring him, I guess. I also always knew he was right around 27 anyway.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
Honestly, I’m in pretty good shape but the food addiction is going to catch up with me soon. I can start to feel it.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:59 pm
So are you saying your second place finish in MVP voting is your high water mark?
November 12th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
I go for Rockstar Zero Carb, as in the “Blue Rockstar,” and Hdyrive Energy Orange flavour. The latter is available at Target, and the former is harder to find but is out in more grocery stores including Safeway/Vons/Genuardi’s and Giant now.
November 12th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
Nice quote fail, asshole.
November 12th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
So the great Paolo has an addiction to artificial sweeteners, known to be worse for the body than caffeine… HYPOCRITE!
Hey, my OPS was higher than anybodys and I had the best fielding percentage. Fans need to quit voting.
November 12th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
Wait, there’s fan voting? That’s some bullshit.
November 12th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
Why do I bother? Or he’s just stoned and joking I guess. No, not every day.
November 12th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
You are a smart man Spence, good Cocaine is a HELL of a drug. Although if I’m set for a long night out with the boys I’ll still rail up a fatty before the festivities start. The key with cocaine is to not go back for a second round, because before you know it you’ll be on your 10th round of the night. Just one fat rail and leave it at that.
November 12th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
Why do I bother? WHY DO ANY OF US BOTHER?
Or he’s just stoned NO
and joking I guess. YEP
And artificial sweeteners are horrible for you.
November 12th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
id rather die from my insides being devoured by cancer than to be fat.
/twisted, but honest logic
November 12th, 2009 at 5:26 pm
I’m sorry, but this 299 comment thread is driving me nuts. Had to make it an even 3 hundy. So here’s to the Captain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Get well soon Murdock!
