We’ll Think of Paul O’Neill During the Super Bowl
Music, NFL November 12th. 2009, 5:30pmThis used to be the song that was played when Paul O’Neill stepped to the plate at Old Yankee stadium. (Three Yankees mentions today? Wait till they actually get Granderson!) Memories. Hey, a blogger breaking news! (Hot Clicks)

Wow. It’s REALLY slow, eh? Feels like the All-Star Break right now.
Yankees are going to call up that kid from their farm system (Austin Jackson?) to replace whichever guy they don’t resign in Damon or Matsui. I don’t see Cashman pulling off any trades unless it’s for a bench bat, pinch runner or defensive replacement.
He’ll sign what he needs. Yankees are stacking their farm with talent now.

The Who?!?!? The NFL does realize this isn’t 1968 right? This is getting ridiculous and I actually like The Who.

I’m not sure there’s ever been a baseball player I hated more than Paul O’Neill.

Are they going to get the zombies of Keith Moon and John Entwistle to play with them?

Simmons brought up a good point on his podcast a few weeks back (I think it was with Klosterman) - 20 years from now, what bands are playing the Super Bowl halftime show? Everything is pointing towards using the same bands they’ve used the past few years since there are no more “big” bands.

There are plenty of big bands. I just don’t think Radiohead gives a fuck about playing the Super Bowl.
November 12th, 2009 at 5:55 pm

Isn’t there a royalty timespan on those songs, hence they can use them and not have to pay?
/could be totally wrong
//if there was a way to make an extra buck, Page could do it

Radiohead wouldn’t fill the owner’s box at a Super Bowl. Van Halen and Bon Jovi are the last two they could get of that genre, I think

I just found this out yesterday while doing a quiz on sporcle. I was born 20 years after this song even came out and have only ever heard it called Teenage Wasteland.

The younger viewers are addicted and watching regardless. The NFL is looking for Dave Jennings to tune in.

If the first thing you think of when you think of The Who is Paul O’Neill…well, then, that is beyond sad.

didn’t grow up in the 70s. couldn’t name another song by The Who
November 12th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
Thats not really true. I know a lot of people my brother’s age who don’t give a crap about the Super Bowl. The reason they had Janet Jackson and TImberlake that one year was to get the younger viewer to stay. If you look at the demos of Super Bowl ratings they always skew older.
The NFL is just choosing “safe” acts. It has nothing to do with ratings. If it did Miley Cyrus would be performing every year.

I barely grew up in the 80s and I know Magic Bus, Pinball Wizard, Who Are You, Squeeze Box, Summertime Blues and My Generation.
You’re just not a music fan. Big difference.
November 12th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
You’re just not a music fan of good music, judging by your video and iPod selections you’ve used/mentioned. Big difference.

me also. Top 3 or 4, depending on the day/mood/song playing that gets me thinking about them or remembering a show I saw again

@Jay V: And Tino. They played Baba for Tino too. Man, those were the days.
Actually, Pearl Jam is the reason I know The Who. Eddies lives for covering The Who.
