Derek Jeter, Actor
Baseball, College Basketball, Movies November 13th. 2009, 7:38am
The Roundup will be tardy this morning. In the meantime, feel free to poke fun at one of the greatest shortstops in baseball history. Why is Derek Jeter wearing a wig? Because he’s a in a movie. With Marky Mark and Will Ferrell. We’re ripping up today’s agenda and winging it. We’ll try not to reference 2012 too many times. It opens tonight. We’re totally going. Also, it is Harrison Barnes day! The Des Moines Register has blanket coverage. His decision comes between 2-4 pm. If he selects Duke, Dick Vitale will silently cheer in his Sarasota home. [D-Listed]

November 13th, 2009 at 8:08 am

I just googled it, and WTF? haha
November 13th, 2009 at 8:10 am

November 13th, 2009 at 8:15 am

November 13th, 2009 at 8:17 am
Agreed. Between that picture and the snippet of the movie Antichrist a buddy sent me, my nightmares are now full.
/Please don’t watch a minute of the Antichrist movie
//I’m not kidding
November 13th, 2009 at 8:17 am
If you say its to show he wants to be like Russell with the championships…
November 13th, 2009 at 8:18 am
Whats the Antichrist movie, TCS?
November 13th, 2009 at 8:18 am
@ TexansFan its out of respect to jordan or something. he wants #23 retired lby everyone.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:19 am
thinks highly of jordan and doesnt think anyone should wear his number. i missed the first part but im sure he said he should also be the logo instead of west. something to that effect
November 13th, 2009 at 8:19 am
Thats not bad. So basically he did the same for the game that Gretzky did for hockey?
November 13th, 2009 at 8:20 am
anyone hear lebron say hes going to change his number to 6 next year?
it’s a rolling number, tied to the number of posts tbl does on the rumors of what different city he will play in next year. In two weeks, they will announce he’s wearing #20
November 13th, 2009 at 8:21 am
No argument here. Although for me I wish the new logo would be starks dunking on Jordan.
/The Knicks have been shit for years
November 13th, 2009 at 8:22 am
lebron’s going to look weird in a #6 cavs jersey next year. why 6? i hate when basketball players don’t wear basketball numbers.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:22 am
lol thank god for his 2-18
November 13th, 2009 at 8:23 am
i might be of the minority but 6 also looks weird on a qb
/cutler and sanchise
November 13th, 2009 at 8:23 am
yes?
(”this” was alternative appropriate response)
November 13th, 2009 at 8:24 am
They can’t change the logo. West is the shit and a class act.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:24 am
i make an ass out of myself more often then not, miz. i apologize
November 13th, 2009 at 8:25 am
If this was said in person, you’d have to wearing a black leather jacket and white tshirt underneath.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:26 am
is there a movie post today?
i’d love to see this movie if they could just edit out the plot and cut together all the disaster sequences in HD.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:28 am
exactly.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:28 am
Anyone else hear that “Precious” is apparently this years Oscar champ already? The movie about he fat girl who has two kids, and Monique is in it.
/Yes, a movie with Monique is up for an award that start with “Source” or “BET”
November 13th, 2009 at 8:29 am
i figured this is it and michael jackson already won it
November 13th, 2009 at 8:31 am

/group hug
//fuck you Karma
///kidding

/////yes
November 13th, 2009 at 8:33 am
@GSG – the buzz on “Precious” is tremendous. Supposedly, Monique is a totally monstrous in the role as the mother. Part of my job involves working with kids like the Precious character; I was thinking of seeing with some of my colleagues, but I hear it’s incredibly raw.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:34 am
@GSG, to clarify, supposedly Monique is great in the role as the mother, but the character is monstrous.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:35 am
uh, virginia Monique is Monstrous.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:36 am
@Virginia – I’ve heard that it’s really bad. I stay away from the theater during the summer, but I’m finally being drawn back in.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:36 am
Yea, I heard she hits the girl with frying pans and pushes her down stairs.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:37 am
anyone else believe the hype surrounding Woody Harrelson’s performance in The Messenger? Supposively his best since the People vs. Larry Flynt
/I kid
//really want to see that movie
November 13th, 2009 at 8:37 am
Dicky V lives in Lakewood Ranch
November 13th, 2009 at 8:39 am
it comes out today, badger? thats gotta be the worst job in the military
November 13th, 2009 at 8:39 am
makes it even funnier. it’s safe to assume there’s some sarcasm involved when I comment…unless it’s about TBL’s college football knowledge. then, I’m dead freaking serious.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:39 am
If this was said in person, you’d have to wearing a black leather jacket and white tshirt underneath.
you forgot the toothpick. there’s definitely a toothpick dangling from your mouth
November 13th, 2009 at 8:40 am
So is BBoB confirmed to be TBL or Jerry O’Connell yet?
November 13th, 2009 at 8:40 am
im quick to pull the trigger, miz. too quick
November 13th, 2009 at 8:40 am
Lebron doesn’t think anybody should wear 23, because of Michael Jordan’s number, and then he’s going to go put on #6? If we’re retiring numbers league wide, wouldn’t you start with Bill Russell.
@v4L, I saw the one with Katherine Keener and Juno about child abuse, and I was sick for weeks. I couldn’t get it out of my head. I’ll pass on Monique being even worse (from what I”ve heard). I’ve also heard role of a lifetime for her, though.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:41 am
@GSG, the NYT movie review a few weeks ago made me teary. Watching a movie about a girl haveing two kids by her own father is really tough stomach. I work in it, not sure I want to see it on screen.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:42 am
Wow, I did not know that was it. jesus
November 13th, 2009 at 8:42 am
Jay Cutler’s on pace for 30 interceptions this season. Ouch.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:43 am
Wow, so many typos in that last post…
@dirt: I’m thinking I may pass too; my colleagues are still wanting to do the group thing. We’ll see.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:44 am
my colleagues are still wanting to do the group thing. We’ll see.j
do tell……
November 13th, 2009 at 8:44 am
think it is safe to say he is not in any top 10…er…top 15 discussion right now of QBs.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:44 am
Not sure Texans, I saw a trailer for it last night, but didn’t catch the release date. Looks extremely powerful.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:45 am
@GSG here’s the Times review

November 13th, 2009 at 8:46 am
He’s still tremendously talented, but yeah, we could be heading for Jeff George 2.0.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:47 am
roundup is up. miz, did we decide when we’re going to have this silly college football contest?
why dont we start with picks this weekend? just as a warm up. you pick 3 games that we have to predict (with the spread) and i’ll pick 2 games we have to predict. most out of 5 wins.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:47 am
If we’re retiring numbers league wide, wouldn’t you start with Bill Russell.
sports didn’t exist before the 70’s
/commenter science
November 13th, 2009 at 8:48 am
I didn’t have the game, and my streams kept dying. I read a recap that said Singletary eschewed a 49 yard FG in favor of punting, and Chicago marched right down the field for the win, excepting the INT.
Tell me this…was San Fran in a prevent again, or were they trying to apply pressure on Cutler?
November 13th, 2009 at 8:49 am
Jay Cutler’s on pace for 30 interceptions this season. Ouch.
his #1 WR is a converted CB and is best known for returning punts and his OL is terrible. what do you expect?
November 13th, 2009 at 8:49 am
JPQ, that number has moved. It’s like 1992 now. Anything prior to that, and kids think you’re just making up the names.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:50 am
That’s a large part of it, yes. His bad reads and hubris are also part of it.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:52 am
That’s a large part of it, yes. His bad reads and hubris are also part of it.
or the fact that his helmet is worn so low he can probably hardly see where he’s throwing it.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:52 am
what does that prove?
November 13th, 2009 at 8:53 am
or the fact that his helmet is worn so low he can probably hardly see where he’s throwing it.
gotta protect the bangs
November 13th, 2009 at 8:54 am
his #1 WR is a converted CB and is best known for returning punts and his OL is terrible. what do you expect?
I didn’t realize they caused him to make bad decisions, especially in the Red Zone. Sorry
dirt: you are correct on 1992. What was I thinking?
November 13th, 2009 at 8:55 am
no offense intended, TBL, but that’s gotta be the dumbest way to determine college football knowledge. however, I’ll go along with it, and if I lose, we will proclaim you the college football knowledge master king.
with that being said, here’s my three games:
UAB @ Memphis
Delaware @ Navy
New Mexico State @ Hawaii
November 13th, 2009 at 8:56 am
Virginia – thanks for that.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:56 am
I didn’t realize they caused him to make bad decisions, especially in the Red Zone. Sorry
he’s only got one red zone target, greg olsen. take him away and every decision is a bad one.
November 13th, 2009 at 8:57 am
dirt: re: last night. Yes San Fran was trying like crazy to prevent a victory, but Cutler would have none of it.
Millen went so far as to say before a snap “all they need to do here is throw a 10 yard out, then they will have 3 shots at the end zone”.
Cutler proceeds to then throw the 10 yard out with :13 seconds left, and they had 3 shots at the end zone…but somehow San Fran didn’t expect that
November 13th, 2009 at 9:00 am
The first and last interceptions were terrible plays by Cutler, he had no business forcing those throws into the end zone. The other three were kind of fluky… a receiver slips coming out of a break and falls down, interception right to the db. on the third, the receiver runs into the umpire running a crossing pattern and isn’t able to finish his route. not exactly Cutler’s fault. The fourth pick was a bit questionable since the db looked like he got there a bit early and made could have been flagged for interference.
i’m no cutler apologist, but not all of them were terrible plays by the guy.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:01 am
miz, again, there’s no way to prove shit that is subjective. we’ve been over this.
x is better than y. you think one thing. i think another. Kiper thinks another. we’ll know in five years.
what does memorizing stats prove?
who cares if i can remember Tony Rice running the option for ND? or the Irish backfield of Brooks and Bettis that dominated in the Sugar Bowl?
this is all very silly. all this college football conjecture is subjective. opinions. that is all. i’ve never professed to know “more” about the sport than anyone else. just have opinions on the sport. and i voice ‘em.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:04 am
by the way, TBL, if this is going to be fair, we need to have a mediator that we email our picks to before they are posted in comments, or wherever else. I nominate sparty or CRM. your thoughts?
by the way part 2, can you get the lines on the three games I listed? I have no freaking clue where to find that info. thanks.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:06 am
dirt: re: last night. Yes San Fran was trying like crazy to prevent a victory, but Cutler would have none of it.
This worries me about Singletary the coach. He gave one away earlier to Minny doing that. You’d think he would have learned.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:09 am
This is disturbing.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:10 am
agreed. unless it’s an essay/discussion forum.
agreed. it’s not about memorizing stats or trivia. it’s about understanding the life of the game. i.e. how Oregon can be ranked higher than an undefeated Boise after a head-to-head loss, how LSeaUx can gain a spot in the BCS rankings after LOSING a game, how Colt McCoy and Tim Tebow have no business being in the Heisman discussion with their current 2009 resumes.
it is silly, but it is also fun. that’s the point of the post/comment thread relationship, no?
November 13th, 2009 at 9:18 am
oregon-boise … that still is up for debate. ask 10 writers, you might have a split. nothing you or i say is “right”. All opinion.
LSU in the BCS? Impossible. only 2 per conference. Alabama or UF have it locked up. Unless a meteor hit one of their campuses …
Colt and Tebow = more subjectivity.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:25 am
dude, did you read all the words I wrote? I’m talking about having and understanding of WHY it happened.
dude, did you read all the words I wrote? I’m talking about having and understanding of WHY it happened. there was nothing in there about LSU actually getting a BCS game or even mention in the championship discussion.
dude, did you read all the words I wrote? I’m talking about having and understanding of WHY it shouldn’t happen.
the bottom line is I’m in no way saying I know more facts/trivia/have better opinions than you. I just think I understand the monster that is college football better than you do. I know you’re a busy guy, and I supposedly have a job as well that I’m supposed to be working at while I’m instead commenting here and at S&F (click on my name!!!). I honestly think the only way to settle anything is a point-counterpoint discussion where we each submit topics to a third party and discuss a couple of those topics picked by said third party. of course, that idea is probably lame because I’m a somewhat lame guy.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:27 am
It’s some fucked up movie by a fucked up art house director who apparantly was having a severe depression. He then decided to fill a movie about a fucked up family who accidently kill their kid, run into a talking fox eating its own entrails and then decide to remove each other’s private parts while having sex. Roger Ebert in his review wrote:
That’s Entertainment!

of course, that idea is probably lame because I’m a somewhat lame guy.
I gotta respect a guy that’s self-aware

miz is winning.

I call it The Aristocrats!
November 13th, 2009 at 9:33 am
so you want to just talk about college football? sure. sounds good. probably not going to get done in the comments today. you around tomorrow?
weak early games, but i should be around for the ND-pitt game thread.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:38 am
not gonna be around tomorrow or any this weekend. check your email in a few.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:40 am
but i should be around for the ND-pitt game thread.
he’ll be around specifically NOT watching the best and most relevant game of the weekend,

+1.5 GSG
This typical ESPN’d Jeter and Yankee shit was our filler and excuse for a late round up? At least GSG, Miz, and TexasFan provided some real content and entertainment value. Texas rocks too Hoorah!
