Chris Coghlan, Your NL Rookie of the Year
1-liner, Baseball November 17th. 2009, 1:00pmMLB Awards: Determined Florida Marlins outfielder Chris Coghlan captured the NL Rookie of the Year award. One day, while in high school, he returned home to the news that his father died in a car accident while on a business trip. Coghlan found solace in the batting cage. Goodness this story is sad. Coghlan was hardly being recruited as a junior in high school; he was an 18th round draft choice in 2003. We’ll be rooting for him from now on. [St. Pete Times]

Nice story, but only one question remains: when does he get traded to the Red Sox for three minor league pitchers?

Sad backstory. Happ and/or Hanson still deserved this award more.

Someone should have let the Sportswriters know JA Happ and Tommy Hanson are in fact rookies and in the National League.

good for him. Marlins know how to identify talent.
Anybody watch this month’s Real Sports about Nick Adenhart? After watching, I didn’t realize how dusty it is in my house!

Jeff Neimann should have won

Wasn’t sure if this is sarcastic or not, but Neimann is in the AL.

Randy Wells pitched forty more innings than Hanson and pretty much just as well as Happ, but nobody loves him.

Baseball writers are so easily swayed by stories.

ugh. Randy Wells. Talk about a guy who i just kept on waiting to start sucking all year in fantasy (but never did). I have a lot of “sports hate” for that guy. I have faith he will suck next year, for no particular reason.

I have the same faith about Happ. Hanson is going to be an unstoppable monster of death though.

Randy Wells isn’t in the majors, that’s why.
There is talk of Hanson moving to closer…
