Who is Behind the Incredible Failure That is the @InsidetheBCS Twitter Account?
College Football, Twitter November 20th. 2009, 3:15pm
The BCS had the bright idea to start a twitter account – @InsidetheBCS - perhaps in an effort to blunt the tsunami of criticism that is being rightfully heaped on the farce that is the end of the college football season. Who’s behind the account? A reader with a keen eye noticed that the first peopel to “follow” the account were … you guessed it, publicists.
Bill Hancock, the new executive director of the BCS, must have known he had no shot of handling this fool’s errand by himself, so why not farm it out? We emailed the first “follower,” Trent Duffy of HDMK, but he didn’t reply. The second follower is another publicist at HDMK, Lisa Chapman. We called Chapman and were told she “stepped out.” (Even though we’ve never met her, we are all too familiar with the drill when you don’t want to talk to someone, and we’d wager that the person we spoke with was Chapman.)
Dan Wetzel is having a blast with @insidethebcs, which is getting destroyed hourly. The problem? There is no defense for the BCS. It is the worst ending to any postseason in professional sports. The BCS doesn’t care about champions. It cares about money.

Second in viewership only to the superbowl with ratings that dwarf anything MLB/NBA gets. And the game will be discussed for 5 weeks straight.

except for reggie bush, it is not professional sports.

1) It’s designed to match 1 vs 2 – something that was very rare 20 years ago.
2) no shit.

Movie studios don’t care about making art. They care about money.
PF Changs doesn’t care about serving the public a fine faux Chinese meal. They care about money.
The KKK doesn’t care about running minorities out of the country or burying them under it. They care about money… wait that one might not work.

What does this BCS post have to do with Notre Dame?
They still have Atlanta Dream billboards around town to hype it as some great spectacle. Makes me laugh.

So, uh, my boss left for a “meeting”, and I’m the only one left in my isolated cubicle.

i’m pretty much tired of discussing this as no one can explain how it is that the money that everyone makes will disappear. a playoff system would have awesome matchups followed by more awesome matchups that lead to a potential champion instead of one game deciding it and the rest being meaningless. how is there not money to be made in this scenario??

I demand an apology!
November 20th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
Some big conferences with automatic $$ in the BCS system may not get the same $$ if a playoff system happened.
/I think that’s oversimplified
/may just be wrong entirely

I think “Ty” Duffy should just explain himself in the comments.

It’s not that the money will go away with a playoff. It’s that the money will go to different people/organizations, and the people who currently profit most (bowl presidents/organizers) will lose out and therefore fight against a playoff.

There are Minka “haters”? That said, she doesn’t look all that good (for her) in those pics. Cap’n Jetes hair looks great though
November 20th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
@TSH – who’s had a tougher few years Tara Reid or Lindsay Lohan?
November 20th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
Earl Boykins benches almost 3 times his body weight. Jesus.

Love pepperoni, almost to the bacon level, but not quite.
But I find the pastrami to be the most sensual of all the salted cured meats.

Bwahahahahahaha.

Agreed/This/Ditto/Co-sign/Whatever the kids here are saying these days…the BCS is defensible and has helped the sport much more than it has hurt it, if it’s hurt it at all
November 20th, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Trust men The days before the bcs were awful.
November 20th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
I hate the BCS and DEMAND a playoff. (Making demands is fun.)
But this bears repeating. Or ReTweeting, whatever it is we do these days.
