Vernon Wells is The AL MVP, Except The Exact Opposite
1-liner, Baseball November 22nd. 2009, 11:45am
American League LVP: “Still, I think Vernon Wells wins the 2009 LVP Award. You know, Wells was a good player in 2008 and he was a good player in 2006 so perhaps he’s going to have the even-odd thing that Bret Saberhagen had going for a while. But in 2009, he was brutal. He posted an 88 OPS+ which is bad enough, but it was only that good because he had a good last three weeks. He was hitting .247/.300/.389 on Sept. 5. And he was entirely unplayable in center field the whole year.” Vernon Wells has fallen apart faster than Caddyshack II. With that said, he’ll be a Met by early February. [Joe Posnanski]

Every time I read about Vernon Wells contract I laugh for a moment and then remember he’ll make more in a year for being bad at baseball than I’ll make in my life. Anywho, WINERY DAY! YES!
…no football day though. sigh.

Winery Day in Missouri?
What do you do, go to Kroger and walk through the frozen juice concentrate aisle?
November 22nd, 2009 at 12:00 pm
Bah, Missouri is all about the (generally shitty) wineries JPQ, we got tons. There is one called Monticello that I genuinely love though, they do great things.

I’m not drunk yet, and I’ve made Thomas Jefferson live somewhere. It’s gonna be a fantastic day.

When the Cubs decided to pay an aging shitty outfielder a shitton of money and continue to pay him a shitton of money for years like the Blue Jays did… oh wait.
By the way, seven million for John Grabow Mrejr?

I never knew Missouri had grapes. I remember years ago going to vineyards in Southern NYS that grew grapes for a huge elch’s plant in Erie, PA. That’s what made me think of the juice.
You’ll probably have more fun than watching the Rams game, right?
November 22nd, 2009 at 12:04 pm
true, but it’s probably the last home game that won’t be blacked out, and I do enjoy watching St. Louis crowds bow to their lord and savior Kurt Warner.

Word of advice — drinking like it’s the last 15 beers on earth is a bad idea.

When did bill simmons start writing for tbl?
When he starting buying Hernia’s spectacular hair styling products
November 22nd, 2009 at 12:25 pm
Hernia, I was in the same boat, but I got up at 6.45 to a crisis and a catastrophe.
I was drinking $4.40/bottle wine.

Does Chaz Cheeseburger usually have Sunday pressers? He’s got one today in about 20 minutes.

He’s gonna leave and work out a break for ND on the buyout (cut the number/extend the payout years).

That means the alumni probably cancelled his Sunday Breakfast, Sunday Brunch, and Sunday Lunch, so he’s angling for a crafts table to get set up somewhere near him.

soflywpb: easy trigger, I can be in WPB in 40 minutes and issue an old man beating like you’ve never seen. Think Charles Bronson in Death Wish

jpq – What do you make of these Weis to Buffalo rumors?
November 22nd, 2009 at 12:34 pm
The Wells contract is killing the Jays. Not blaming him because it’s clear that he is trying and he is as disappointed as anyone that he sucks. The guys body just got real old, real quick.

i think it was a traveling vaudeville show

I saw Mortenson & Schefter talking, but wasn’t in the room. Was it to be HC I assume?
He literally had the Bills job about 5-6 years ago, but couldn’t interview due to the Pats being in the SB (old interview rules). The Bills got nervous and hired Mularkey
November 22nd, 2009 at 12:47 pm
Charles Bronson was good in Death Wish 9.
November 22nd, 2009 at 12:47 pm
I didn’t see the piece either (I prefer Food Network to NFL pregame shows), but I just saw a few mentions of it on twitter. I’d assume it’s the HC job.

agree 100% . My DVR is 40% full of shows on there
Weis is on now. Waiting until after Stanford game to talk about future. Makes sense.

Hey, I hate that movie as much as he does. I will crane kick his double chin if he thinks he has Caddyshack II all to himself.

O/U on how long it takes Simmons to send Hernia an email that starts with “Young Tim”?
