Texans Lose, Continue to Pedal Inexorably to .500
NFL, Video November 24th. 2009, 10:45am
Chris Johnson racked up 151 yards rushing and looked like an MVP candidate. Vince Young made all the necessary plays and looked like a capable NFL QB. The Houston Texans looked like … the Houston Texans. The same ‘ol destined-for.500 Texans.
Titans 20, Texans 17. For the second night in a row, one of Peter King’s projected division winners suffered a costly loss that will likely keep it out of the playoffs.
We had hoped for video of the awesome Johnson run where he bounced off tacklers, but that’s not online. A reader sent us video of Vince Young hi-fiving the ref at the end of the game, but we can’t embed it. So you’ll have to settle for this.

yes sir
November 24th, 2009 at 10:48 am
I’ll say it.
CJ > SJax > Peterson
November 24th, 2009 at 10:49 am
Only part of the game I caught was the 4th quarter. All I could think was that the Titans should scored a lot more considering how piss poor Houston’s pass rush was.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:50 am
What are the odds that Tennessee makes the playoffs? How many times do they have to play Indy?
November 24th, 2009 at 10:51 am
Bye bye Kubiak
November 24th, 2009 at 10:53 am
I always said Jack Del Rio was the Tommy Bowden of the NFL. It’s obvious to me now that he has serious competition.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:53 am
It’s really funny that the Texans have a rival. It’s funnier that they’re 4-12 all time against their hated rival.
Maybe two tight ends wide, Johnson and VY in the backfield and 7 offensive linemen. If I were tennessee, I’d never throw it.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:53 am
One more time, two weeks from now.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:54 am
Bye bye Kubiak
The bears should call, and offer big $$$ for O/C. No joke.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:55 am
favre is pulling away
November 24th, 2009 at 10:55 am
He’s still Texas A&M’s wet dream. He’ll take over there when Sherman is sacked.
/no joke
November 24th, 2009 at 10:57 am
titans are only 4-6. have to hurdle too many teams.
Duder, you musta missed the post yesterday on MVP.
Mike: i’d put CJ and AP on the same level right now. changes week by week, but CJ’s been incredible this season. unreal that FOUR RBs were taken ahead of him in 2008.
all still have potential to be very good … dont think any of CJ potential.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:57 am
Kris Brown needs to make a FG, assclown.
/titans-over tease
//big fat loser
November 24th, 2009 at 10:58 am
5 minutes. That’s how long Gary Kubiak will be unemployed. He may even get head coaching offers in the NFL.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:59 am
Cowher to Houston? Why not?
And Kubiak to A&M makes so much sense. They’re desperate to regain their spot in the CFB hierarchy.

Texans Lose, Continue to Peddle Inexorably to .500
Just realized this, but shouldn’t it be ‘pedal’.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:03 am
Are the Texans not traveling about with wares for sale toward .500?
November 24th, 2009 at 11:03 am
They’re 2 games out of the Wild Card. The teams at 6-4 are Jacksonville (the most bi-polar team in the NFL), Denver (who looks like a 6-10 team right now), and Pittsburgh (who can’t win without Polamalu).
Why not?
November 24th, 2009 at 11:03 am
Its frustrating that the World Champions are forced to roll around in the Wild Card muck with nfl peasants such as Hou/Jax. Its not a place I like to be, but thanks for the choke job Chris Brown.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:04 am
I really see that head to head loss in week 1 with Pittsburgh as what will ultimately doom them
November 24th, 2009 at 11:06 am
Chris Brown.
The RB or the girl-beater?
I think you mean Kris Brown.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:07 am
Who thinks Ben Roethlisberger with a concussion can even make it out of the Ravens game conscious? Because right now, that’s their plan for Sunday night.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:12 am
I am imagining this being said the same way Verne Lundquist said it at the 86 Masters.
The news is worse for the Bears/Browns/Seahawks/Bills fans since Fisher probably isn’t getting fired now.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:12 am
i pray that’s their plan.
and it was great watching stillers OL regress mightily against the stone wall that is the chefs (/great googily moogily) DL.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:13 am
Big Ben should not be playing. Unless the Steelers only plan on having him for 3 more years.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:14 am
The news is worse for the Bears/Browns/Seahawks/Bills fans since Fisher probably isn’t getting fired now.
I actually think that Bud Adams–that eternal shithead–’leaves the picture’ before Fisher does. If he can resurrect this season, he’ll likely be there until that profane, team stealing bastard kicks the bucket.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:14 am
Can’t Blame Fisher for early woes.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:17 am
that’s fine…can’t give credit to caldwell for early success either then. at least until he actually speaks on the sideline.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:19 am
Is anybody giving Caldwell credit for anything?
November 24th, 2009 at 11:21 am
I also am refusing to give Childress any credit thus far.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:21 am
Please explain to me how a guy that was absolutely terrible in the college game is now considered a great NFL coach?
Oh wait, he doesn’t have to do anything…carry on.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:21 am
Is anybody giving Caldwell credit for anything?
Having sat at the right hand of St Tony for 10 years?
November 24th, 2009 at 11:22 am
Being the luckiest guy in the history of Earth.
/from doing a shitty job at Wake Forest to babysitting Peyton Manning
November 24th, 2009 at 11:22 am
Right now Caldwell is 3rd behind Childress and Payton in the Coach of the Year race. So I don’t think anyone is giving him credit for anything.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:24 am
for meanmuggin.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:24 am
Caldwell would be another zombie on a bad team
November 24th, 2009 at 11:24 am
so the Coach of the Year basically is a direct function of their team’s record? nothing else?
November 24th, 2009 at 11:24 am
CJ is MVP. After yesterday, up to 6.2 a carry. That’s insane.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:24 am
Off-topic. Great article on Blackwater in The Nation. My favorite line was:
“If there’s one person they’re going after and and there’s 34 people in the building, 35 people are going to die. That’s the mentality. (of the Predator drone bombings).
November 24th, 2009 at 11:25 am
Caldwell coached at Penn State, he’s a genius.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:25 am
easy…mamalickbootay is a colts fan and i wanted to get a dig in.
is that so wrong, mr. air of superiority? IS IT?

Army buddy of mine told me that the next in-house fight at the Pentagon is going to be regarding how to curtail PMCs before they get too powerful.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:27 am
Right now Caldwell is 3rd behind Childress and Payton in the Coach of the Year race.
I’d put him behind the recently departed Dick Jauron. Try coaching a team with no talent who is missing 25 guys (including 14 on IR) instead of coaching a Ferrari and let’s see how good he is
Caldwell is the same as the Cowboys Barry Switzer post Jimmy Johnson era
November 24th, 2009 at 11:28 am
manning always wins at least 12 games a year
November 24th, 2009 at 11:29 am
How about Sean Payton for coach of the year?
November 24th, 2009 at 11:29 am
not really.
aside from peyton, reggie, dallas clark and the two ends, this team is average at best from a talent standpoint.
put peyton on the bills as they’re constructed and they’d probably have at least six wins.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:29 am
so the Coach of the Year basically is a direct function of their team’s record? nothing else?
Isn’t that the case? It goes: 1)How big a turnaround you caused? and 2)What your record was?
Before their nosedive, I’d have said Josh McDaniels was the clubhouse leader with Marvin Lewis right behind him. But the Broncos did nose dive and the Bengals, while a major turnaround, are not going to finish ahead of the Vikings or Saints or Colts.

If you read the article (and it is 11 pages) I think Blackwater (or Xe Services as it is known now) is already there. They have their hands all over JSOC.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:30 am
bengals are going to miss the playoffs.
/dreaming, but i fucking hate em
November 24th, 2009 at 11:31 am
Look at Peyton’s playoff record. You can’t tell me he’s some kind of quaterbacking God, better than everyone else. If he was he’d have more RINGS.

That’s kind of what he was saying. He said it would take either a Sec of Defense or the head of Joint Chiefs basically falling on his sword to take them out.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:33 am
They hate you too spencer.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:34 am
fuck the colts. That stadium will be half empty once peyton retires. Bsanders will have to find a new team to support.
/bitter cheap shot’d

sounds like State of Play w/out Rachel McAdams as the pesky blogger
/good flick
November 24th, 2009 at 11:36 am
bengals are going to miss the playoffs.
It’d be easier if Baltimore wasn’t playing with one hand up its ass and Denver had continued playing beyond Week 6.
fuck the colts.
Is any team as tied to one player as the Colts are to Manning. I might have said the Pack with Favre, but well…you know.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:36 am
TBL: still planning on seeing “The Road” this weekend?
November 24th, 2009 at 11:38 am
Rachel McAdams as the sexy blogger
Fixed.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:39 am
titans are only 4-6. have to hurdle too many teams.
Looking at the AFC standing the Titans have a long hill to climb to make a wildcard spot over the next 5 weeks, but there’s one thing working greatly in my boys’ favor: the teams that are in front of them are the Steelers (could be sans Big Ben for a while, already slumping without Troy P.), Broncos (slumping hard), Ravens (Flacco is struggling, D isn’t what it was), Texans (can’t close), the Jets (somehow Sanchez threw 2 INTs in last night’s game) and the Dolphins (missing Ronnie Brown, but they’re the one team in this cluster who are improving).
It’s a tough climb, but definitely possible at this point.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:40 am
I liked that movie a lot, jpq. Thought it was a solid political thriller.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:41 am
Oh, and Jacksonville, who are by no means a juggernaut or consistent.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:42 am
jags are frauds.
garrard is terrible, they haven’t beaten a good team, and they’re still the team that got waxed 41-0 by the fucking seahawks.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:44 am
I liked that movie a lot, jpq. Thought it was a solid political thriller.
me too. Thriller movies like that are my favorite. probably why I hate the movies now, because there’s no plot, just CGI. When one of these comes around AND it’s good, it’s like Christmas
November 24th, 2009 at 11:48 am
Look up “Green Zone” with Matt Damon. Not sure when it is coming out, but Paul Greengrass is directing (same dude who did the last two Bourne Movies). Looks badass.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:51 am
Link to Green Zone.
November 24th, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Gods: that looks good. thanks. I hadn’t heard about that. I’ll definitely check it out. That guy Jason Isaacs is a badass in Brotherhood on Showtime (Michael, the “bad” brother)
November 24th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
plan to read the road before seeing the movie. once again i say, viggo mortensen is putting together a nice little body of work–history of violence, ring trilogy, eastern promises, now the road
spence i appreciate the googily moogily
