Jimmy Clausen’s Parents Have Sold Their Home in South Bend and Other Notre Dame Musings
College Football November 25th. 2009, 10:15am* The Clausens bought a house when their son enrolled at Notre Dame. They put the house up for sale in July, and it recently sold.
* Following this weekend’s game at Stanford, coach Charlie Weis will return to South Bend instead of recruiting on the West Coast.
Everyone knows Weis is gone. And Clausen appears ready to be a Top 10 pick in the draft (Redskins?). This probably also means Golden Tate will be declaring for the NFL, too.
Who replaces Weis? We’re putting no stock in soft denials from Stoops, Meyer, Kelly, whomever … until Notre Dame formally presents an offer and gets rejected.
In a football note, Clausen v. Luck should be a thrilling 41-40 barnburner Saturday.

If your site wansn’t so badass I would rip my head off when I read this stuff. Why would stoops or meyer go to ND? It is not the job you think it is. Florida has better resources and the academic requirements pale in comparison. Same for Stoops at OU. Kelly makes sense (a lot of sense) but the others don’t.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:24 am
This has all the makings of Balloon Boy 2.0.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:25 am
And Clausen appears ready to be a Top 10 pick in the draft (Redskins?).
please god, no. every single ’skins pick next year should be on offensive linemen.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:27 am
I watched The Leader’s so-called “news” programs for the first time in a while this morning while sleeping in.
Do they really think that the Notre Dame story is THIS important? Do people really think it’s this important too? This is actually more offensive than Brett Favre. I can imagine what it’s going to be like when there is something to actually report. Right now it’s more like “Our top story is that there is no news at Notre Dame.”
And I saw the Charlie Weis press conference. He says he’s only answering questions about Stanford and the dick in the audience keeps asking him questions about everything except Stanford?
And Charlie Weis is the dick.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:27 am
isnt it a trend to go to college in the south?
November 25th, 2009 at 10:27 am
I think he’d be a decent fit for the Rams.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:28 am
We’re putting no stock in soft denials from Stoops, Meyer, Kelly, whomever … until Notre Dame formally presents an offer and gets rejected.
They’re going to make an offer to somebody, who’ll turn it down. Then, they’ll make a panic offer of an incredibly huge sum to somebody who would never take it in a million years.
Then, they’ll try to lowball Kelly, and his agent will end up getting him 90% of the huge panic sum.
And four years from now, he’ll have the same overall winning percentage as Weis, Willingham, and Davies. But he’ll be 50 million dollars richer.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:28 am
I can’t even read another ND post. Sorry man.
Stoops and Meyer aren’t going to ND.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:29 am
Dear God, the voice of reason. I wish Danny would hire you
November 25th, 2009 at 10:29 am
Clausen’s a top 10 pick, Seriously?
After Weis’ endorsement of Quinn I wouldn’t touch him.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:30 am
@sanders – have you seen and of director chan-wook park’s revenge trilogy? includes “oldboy”, “lady vengence”, and “mr. vengence”? i watched oldboy a few years back, loved it, then ran into lady vengence last week. it’s not quite as solid as oldboy, but i like ‘em.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:31 am
Where is Clausen on Mel Kiper’s big board?
November 25th, 2009 at 10:31 am
clausen is much better than quinn was
November 25th, 2009 at 10:31 am
I’ve only seen Oldboy, but I was a big fan. I’m eager to check out the others, though. O/T, but Kerry Rhodes is being benched.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:32 am
There are more subway alumni out there than you think. Like it or not, its a “national” program. There a ton of idiots like me who hang on every bit of news about this stupid football program. My delusions of grandeur are becoming few and far between. It will never be 1993 again. It will never be 1988 again.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:33 am
Things are going so poorly for Charlie that I almost feel sorry for him.
Then I remember how much a pompous ass he has been in the last 5 years and I get over any semblance of pity I have for him.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:33 am
Go fuck yourself.
I think Kelly will win there. Maybe not National Title win, but he will do well.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:34 am
Indeed. It’s not even close.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:34 am
If I was the Redskins I’d much rather get a lineman and take my chances with Hawaii-boy than Clausen.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:34 am
There have been fewer Alabama posts this season than there have been about Notre Dame.
/just in the last 12 hours
November 25th, 2009 at 10:34 am
You sure that Clausen doesn’t look better because he has 3 NFL prospects playing WR and TE? Quinn looked awfully good at ND without that type of talent flanking him.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:37 am
And I’m sick of them hijacking the sportscasts and the networks kissing their asses.
All I wanted to see was who won the basketball games last night. Not a laundry list of which coaches might be interested in a job that isn’t even vacant.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:38 am
Their only game against a currently ranked team took place in the first week of the season, what exactly are we to talk about? Their shitty QB? Their solid defense? Their ability to grind out ugly wins against bad teams?
November 25th, 2009 at 10:39 am
Forgot LSU, but to be fair I’m not so sure they should be ranked (I kid).
November 25th, 2009 at 10:39 am
So let’s have 3,634,923,634 posts about at 6-5 team whose best win is against Nevada.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:40 am
Coop. Aren’t you a Texas fan? Speaking ill of schedules is sort of funny if you are indeed a Horns fan. They have a bitch-ass schedule if I’ve ever seen one.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:40 am
Simple econ. That’s all. 100 idiots like me wanting to hear the latest “news” vs 10 guys like you tuning in for a score. Sell to the idiots.
Riiiiiight. Its been vacant since 5 minutes after Navy.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:41 am
espn is like cnn/fox/msnbc. Make news until it becomes news
November 25th, 2009 at 10:41 am
Not sure I follow. Success at Notre Dame is like success playing or managing for the Yankees. You may hate it, but it doesn’t change the fact that the national slurp job and celebration of success is like no other.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:41 am
Isn’t the biggest reason to go pro the players association contact. The soon to come rookie cap has to be in play for all college players.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:42 am
There have been fewer Alabama posts this season than there have been about Notre Dame.
Why would anyone post about the #1/2 team in the nation?
/obvious sarcasm
November 25th, 2009 at 10:42 am
we’ve been over this 7,005 times since we floated the Stoops idea – Weis proved you can recruit talent to South Bend. He just wasn’t a good coach. And he didn’t recruit defensive talent.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:43 am
Penn State, who has the worst schedule and whos biggest wins are Northwestern and Temple (and I’m not joking). But I’m not complaining about lack of coverage or disrespect and would have no problem if someone said PSU shouldn’t be ranked.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:43 am
He’s a PSU guy in Buckeye land, if memory serves.
Isn’t that what message boards are for? A show that holds itself up as a national sports news program should probably focus on, you know, actual sports news.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:44 am
Cleveland, STL, Wash, Seattle, and Buffalo will all probably be looking at QB’s. Whether or not they take one in round 1 is a different matter.
Call me crazy, but I don’t think Floyd and Tate will do much at the next level.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:44 am
Their only game against a currently ranked team took place in the first week of the season, what exactly are we to talk about? Their shitty QB? Their solid defense? Their ability to grind out ugly wins against bad teams?
Aren’t you a Penn St fan?
November 25th, 2009 at 10:44 am
The difference is the Yankees aren’t constrained by different requirements. The Yankees don’t play on a seperate field, so to speak. ND does. Why is this so damn hard to understand? Florida is a MUCH BETTER JOB THAN ND. That doesn’t mean ND should fold up shop, but it means that they need to understand what they are. Right now they don’t. Until they loosen the academic requirements for admission (which the won’t do) they will never be like a Florida or USC in today’s CFB world.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:45 am
bring back Lou Holtz
November 25th, 2009 at 10:46 am
Lefty, you know better than that. $$$ and viewers trump all.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:47 am
I’m not saying its right, but again, what Alabama story or angle are we to discuss? They are pretty good, not great, and boring as fuck. Nothing wrong with that, but not a lot to discuss.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:47 am
Question: what’s the best type of food to eat the day before thxgiving? i’m leaning mexican, kinda craving fajitas.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:47 am
If you can manage to get some perspective from outside of the Notre Dame spin cycle, pretty much everybody (Schlabach, Barnhart, Wes Durham, and on and on and on) is saying the same thing: Notre Dame’s place at the table ain’t what it used to be, and it ain’t what a lot of their fans/alumni seem to think it is.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:48 am
Because getting top-flight defensive talent is hard to do. tenuta is one of the best DC’s in football and he could do nothing at ND. Did he forget how to coach when he left the college football power that is Georgia Tech? Tech never landed (or rarely landed) top-25 recruiting classes yet he always fielded stud defenses. Why? because tech would let dumbasses in if it meant getting a good football team and ND won’t.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:50 am
Didn’t he get the #1 defensive player last year?
November 25th, 2009 at 10:50 am
And they won’t give Tenuta complete control over the defense. He’s co-coordinator or some dumb shit. I get a kick out of the ND fans that say “fire Tenuta!”. We’d take him back, and so would Ohio State. In a heartbeat.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:51 am
I’m not saying its right, but again, what Alabama story or angle are we to discuss?
As a Bama/SEC fan, I’m glad TBL chooses not to post about either. Other than several commenters on here, the college football knowledge ’round these parts is subpar, at best. no offense intended, i just prefer college football specific blogs for my news.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:51 am
I think if Brett Favre kept jumping back from playing for the Cowboys and retiring to coach ND TBL’s head would explode, and ESPN would just show a still photo of splooge on a camera lens.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:52 am
If Cleveland goes the Charlie Weiss pupil/ND route again in less than 4 years I’m going to have no other choice but to trade my football interest to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:52 am
Could not agree more. I don’t think they ever get back to the prominence they once had. Being competitive would be nice. In all actuality, they could be 2-9 right now. Easily 2-9.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:52 am
And the option please.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:52 am
Come on, nobody’s tuning to SportsCenter to see the latest on Weis, and then changing the channel when NBA highlights are shown.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:52 am
I want him at UGA, STAT!! I’ve heard Manny Diaz’s name mentioned around here as well, but I would kill for Tenuta and his blitzes.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:53 am
They could be 9-2 just as easily.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:55 am
They should probably be thankful that they’re not. Another bloodbath in a BCS game would do them more harm than good.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:56 am
think tenuta is the guy who gets credit for springs, winfield, plummer, etc
November 25th, 2009 at 10:58 am
I don’t think they’ll take Clausen, but they could take Bradford off the board. Not likely either, but you never know with the Browns. It’s not a very deep QB class, especially if Locker stays (which he should), which increases the chance of someone trading to get him like the Jets did with Sanchez. Teams like SF, Denver, or Carolina would be likely to make such a move.
November 25th, 2009 at 10:58 am
True. I guess my point in that statement was that good teams (Bama, Fla, Tex, even OSU, PSU) beat who they should. YOu would never say, “well, Bama could be 2-9 right now”. I love ND, but the days of greatness are long gone and are not coming back
November 25th, 2009 at 10:59 am
wow, fuck you.
/doesnt know anything about college football
November 25th, 2009 at 11:00 am
Still waiting on that list of super interesting Alabama topics. Did they just hand the ball off again in practice? That would be awesome. Did they just agree to play a series against Wofford? Sweet.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:01 am
My point is, it will always remain an attractive job because of the giant bronzed wang that awaits at the end of the tunnel. Whether it’s realistic or not is irrelevant, big names will always be thrown out there for this job. That’s how it was, how it is, and how it always will be.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:03 am
Seriously? A PSU fan talking about schedules?
Big names will be thrown out, and when they say no thnaks, they will get the Brian Kelly’s of the world (who is a damn fine coach). If you can’t land the big names, you yourself are not a big name.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:04 am
Isnt this the point? Its a good job because, right now, there are low expectations and if someone comes in and brings them back to a BCS bowl, they’ll be worshipped.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:04 am
ironically bama plays penn state next year
November 25th, 2009 at 11:06 am
No fucking shit. But if someone comes in and does bring them “back to glory,” like many of their student-made tshirts would like to indicate, you are a god.
That’s why ND remains in the discussion and that’s why the ND head coaching job is discussed incessantly. That’s the fucking point.
No one is saying ND is currently an elite program.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:06 am
+1. Tenuta is a great, great coach.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:07 am
I wasn’t the one complaining about lack of coverage. PSU sucks and should not be discussed, unless you are discussing average teams who didn’t win a big game all year.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:07 am
Weis got them to two BCS bowls. Where they got waxed. And the expectations are anything but low. A certain (and substantial) portion of the fanbase (unlike CelticLaw) still thinks it’s 1966, and that they should be top 3 every year.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:08 am
The expectations are throguh the roof. rational people see them as lower, but fans are not rational.
Fixed.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:09 am
1) Nick Saban may leave to go coach Notre Dame.
2) Mark Ingram is a fraud because he doesn’t play for Notre Dame.
3) We don’t know anything about Greg McElroy, but we’re pretty sure he’s Irish so he may be the next coach at Notre Dame.
4) The next Notre Dame head coach may be Nick Saban.
5) We’re just floating this out there, but Saban could be near the top of Notre Dame’s list of coaches.
/TBL
November 25th, 2009 at 11:10 am
Still waiting on that list of super interesting Alabama topics. Did they just hand the ball off again in practice? That would be awesome. Did they just agree to play a series against Wofford? Sweet.
Well, I’m not sure they have many headline stories, such as, their head coach shitting himself on the sidelines, or their “star” QB getting knocked the fuck out by some fan, or their freshman robbing local gas stations, or their players swarming dorms to beat the shit outta other kids, or their players fighting the basketball team over some chick on facebook, or their coach being a complete dick, wait… scratch that last one. But you get my point, nothing THAT exciting!
November 25th, 2009 at 11:10 am
It should be noted that the last men hired at Notre Dame were:
Lou Holtz (coming off a two-year stint as head coach at Minn where he went 10-12)
Bob Davie (internal hire–D. Coordinator)
George O’Leary (decent coach at GT, but won more than 8 games twice in 8 years)
Ty Willingham (coached Stanford for 7 years with a 44-36-1 record)
Charlie Wies (NFL assistant coach)
They haven’t had a big name in YEARS. They should consider themselves extremely lucky if Brian Kelly is interested and takes that job. He’s the best they can get and would be their best hire in decades.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:10 am
The guy that wrote this post said, in no uncertain terms, that Notre Dame was a better job than Florida. Presumably with a straight face.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:11 am
/Sparty’s source
November 25th, 2009 at 11:12 am
Um, two of the last three coaches they had led them to BCS bowls. And Willingham had a 10-win season.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:12 am
I never said that.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:13 am
Well, Julio Jones did take that booster-paid fishing trip, but he proved to be a fraud this year so the story was swept under the rug.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:13 am
Nebraska?
/sad but true
November 25th, 2009 at 11:13 am
@miz – you forgot that Saban could possibly be the next in line for the Jets’ gig.
Bama did get a shout on here once, I think it was when TBL said the Jets should draft Arenas. Ballin’!
November 25th, 2009 at 11:14 am
Yes, and now he’s a celebrated, household name because he won a national title at Notre Dame.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:15 am
Didn’t say you did. Author tag says TBL, and he’s the one that said that.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:15 am
Well, Julio Jones did take that booster-paid fishing trip, but he proved to be a fraud this year so the story was swept under the rug.
Says the fan of the team with a 20,000ft lcd widescreen in the college stadium.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:16 am
Meyer has been quoted as saying ND is his dream job. That + money = Hello South Bend. Not that complicated. Plus when Timmy graduates he’s going to take a big step back. What more can he do at UF?
November 25th, 2009 at 11:17 am
whose freshmen robbed a gas station? our freshmen robbed a Hyundai.
/even worse?
November 25th, 2009 at 11:17 am
Just a wee bit of wishing on behalf of the Vols in all of that, right?
November 25th, 2009 at 11:17 am
So sorry guys, thought I was more clear… I mean a coach who gets them a BCS bowl WIN. The winning part is what is important. Ya dig?
November 25th, 2009 at 11:18 am
Um, oops. My bad.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:19 am
Fixed.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:20 am
Not at all. I hope he stays and we kick the shit out of his team for the next 10 years. I’m just saying it’s not as unlikely that he leaves as so many people believe.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:21 am
I’m not gonna lie, Ron Zook being fired and Herban Meyer being hired was sad for me.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:22 am
whose freshmen robbed a gas station? our freshmen robbed a Hyundai.
My bad, miz.
According to the police report, the victims of the robbery were in their car outside a Pilot convenience store, parked next to a Toyota Prius, when a black male approached wearing a hooded sweatshirt, brandishing what appeared to be a handgun, opened the driver’s side door and said “Give me everything you have.” A second black male also wearing a hooded sweatshirt then came around to the passenger side of the victims’ car, opened it and said, “Give us everything you’ve got.”
better?
November 25th, 2009 at 11:22 am
Actually it equals a contract extension which is what followed that comment. It’s called leverage, and as long as Florida believes Meyer could leave for ND, they’ll pay top dollar to keep him.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:23 am
Meyer will take an NFL gig before he goes to ND.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:24 am
I’m sure that is a part of it too, but there is also some truth behind it somehwere.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:24 am
miz, before you challenge anyone to a college football quiz or whatever, you need to take on GOG in a play-in game.
really. some of your stuff lately has been …. wow.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:25 am
I may have shed a tear or two for the departure of Jim Donnan.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:25 am
no, doesn’t mention the 1999 Hyundai.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:25 am
oh, and i never mentioned saban in the same sentence as ND.
only guy i floated at the beginning as an idea was Stoops.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:25 am
This is a wow. Clausen.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:26 am
Huh?
November 25th, 2009 at 11:27 am
It does mention the Prius, though, which is gold in its own right.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:30 am
That’s the best part of the enitre story. A fucking Prius. At least they are environmentally sound.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:30 am
I do believe you originally challenged me. either way, I’m game. by the way,
huskerdawgGotG wants nothing to do with me.I was tailoring a list of newsworthy items about Bammer football to your college football post wheelhouse…IN JEST. I’m just having fun here, Mr. Big Lead. simmah down.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:31 am
really. some of
yourbig brain brett’s stuff lately has been …. wow./made accurate
November 25th, 2009 at 11:32 am
Why is TBL calling you out? Also, is this like a trivia thing? I do love me some triv.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:32 am
nothin’ wrong with ridin’ dirty in a Prius. these guys are trendsetters…staying green while busting heads.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:35 am
I do love me some triv.
even if it’s a trivia fight to the death?
November 25th, 2009 at 11:35 am
by the way, this was in jest.
TBL, you would be the tuneup for squaring off with GotG. and, you need to get rid of
Jerry O’ConnellBBoB and bring back GotG for college football posts./being serious now
November 25th, 2009 at 11:35 am
They were just offsetting the carbon footprint of the cheeseburger they tried to steal.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:36 am
Besides, think of all the things that you can get away with while driving a Prius. Everyone looks at you as a hippy, pot smoker, love the Earth person. No one would ever suspect gun fire coming from it or it to be used in a hold up.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:38 am
I hope bbob really is Jerry o’connel. If he is a writer who has a vote that would suck. Though having an AP vote means jack anyway.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:38 am
Sparty doesn’t make you guys sign non-competes?
November 25th, 2009 at 11:41 am
they didn’t even take the cheeseburger though, right? what an effing waste! hold up some hillbillies in a Hyundai, get no money out of it cause they already spent it all on their cheeseburgers, said hillbillies offer cheeseburgers instead, scoof at the cheeseburgers, leave with nothing, potentially go to jail for 5-10…sounds like a well thought out plan.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:42 am
In blood. Fo real
November 25th, 2009 at 11:43 am
You couldn’t make this shit up. Just priceless.
November 25th, 2009 at 11:46 am
You got it miz. Those hillbillies are from my hometown. Making me proud.
November 25th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
bbob is jerry o connell? ha!
no.
