Stephen A. Smith Won’t Give Up His Social Commentary Options on TV, Remains at Odds with Philadelphia Inquirer
1-liner, Media Gossip/Musings December 1st. 2009, 5:40pmStephen A. Smith: He’s back at the Philadelphia Inquirer, but strangely, all of his Allen Iverson news is appearing on Fox Sports (Smith has a radio show on Fox). Why are the two sides at an impasse? “It’s really about not appearing on television on anything unrelated to sports. That’s their position … I have no problem with any policy that’s already been in place that everybody has to fall under. My issue is making sure that I’m being treated fairly, you understand? And if I’m not treated fairly, you’ve known me long enough to know that I’m not going to stand by and take anybody mistreating me in a manner they’re not treating anybody else. That’s me. That’s the way that I’ve been and I’m not going to change.” The Inquirer is paying him (one would imagine that includes health benefits) while both sides sort this mess out. Calling it a “mess” might actually be kind. [SRI]

God Damn his “journalism” career took the exact same arc that Iverson’s did. And shit, now they’re both back. But they’re both shells of their former selves.

Smith has a radio show on Fox? Is this just something you hope happens like the Stoops to ND, or is it fact? I can’t find a schedule listing him with a show on FS Radio anywhere.

TBL, you said I was unrealistic about ND in a post yesterday and I didn’t get a chance to respond.
My take is simple (and extremely realistic). ND is a good job, but it’s not as elite as OSU/USC/Florida/Texas. There’s nothing wrong with that. Should it get heavy media attention? Sure. But you’re giving it disproportionate coverage.
Which is fine. It’s your blog and you can cater it however you want. Just be fair about things, and we’ll all remember this when you rail on other media outlets and their disproportionate coverage.

CC what bigger opening is there in football to talk about right now?

Cursed, my ornery friend – click on the Fox Sports link.
See his byline.
Also, you could click the SRI link, where you’ll find this: “And since I’m the new nationally syndicated host for FOX Sports Radio which we begin next month, FOX Sports said we’ll print it.”
are you really that lazy, bud?

fair opinion to have. we’ll agree to disagree.
as for your other mention of “Stoops to ND” – not once in any post did i state that. All along, all i’ve written – ND should go after Stoops, it makes sense. Also, i want them to go after Stoops. I had one post where i had a source saying they ARE going after stoops. I want SToops to go to ND.
not once did i say stoops WAS going to ND. feel free to go through all the posts

He was on Morning Joe on MSNBC yesterday or the day before at 6:30 AM when I got up. A little too early for him (at least for me)

Are you being serious about calling me lazy? You’re worse than Paulo on here with your combattive nature.
I listen to more FSN radio than probably anyone on here. I figured you were wrong about the link. Sorry if that put you in a bad mood dude. Any other names you want to use to get it out of your system? You seem real combative around here lately.

Didn’t say it wasn’t a big opening or that it doesn’t deserve a lot of press. But there is an amound of press that is too much right? I think TBL has exceeded it. Which again, is totally his choice. If he doesn’t want the criticism, he can close down the comment section. He’s the biggest basher on here, so I’m sure he can handle it.

I never said you’ve declared that. Others have though, I haven’t seen you write that it will happen.

Nobody here in Philly reads him. Seriously. Everybody hates him almost as much as Howard Eskin and Angelo Cataldi. They’re all douchebags.
Although, the Inquirer does have some decent sports guys, Phil Sheridan and Bob Ford are very good, and Gonzalez (one time interviewee here) isn’t too bad, albeit redundant in his schtick sometimes.

I’m all over the FSN radio website, and there is no mention of Stephen A on their roster. It just haven’t been updated yet. (I’ve yet to here a promo on the station for his arrival). Sorry to take a shot (which was intended in humor) at you based on the information I had.
Can we be friends?

That is all…

Notre Dame is the biggest college job for the same reason USC is second, and tOSU is third. People love to either see them win or lose. Everyone has an opinion of the Irish. If Texas or Oklahoma loses a game, college fans care. If Notre Dame loses, even your wife knows about it. It’s the high profile job in college sports.

I’m pretty sure my girlfriend couldn’t even tell you if they were good in basketball or football, and I gaurantee she doesn’t know they’re Catholic or that they just fired a coach.

I’m gonna file this under Not a Problem
December 1st, 2009 at 7:40 pm
I need both for my career! TBL needs his…arms.
December 1st, 2009 at 8:16 pm
A lot of commenters seem to think TBL is the only one interested in and/or covering the ND coaching search.
Give me a break.
It’s an elite job whether you like it or not. Always will be, sorry.
Calling Ohio State a more elite coaching job than Notre Dame is nothing but hilarious.
If Jim Tressel did in South Bend what he’s done at Ohio State, he’d be celebrated and looked at in much higher regard. That’s just how it is.

I see this declaration a lot, but I’ve never read a convincing argument to back it up.
December 1st, 2009 at 11:09 pm
The second winningest coach in the history of major college football, who oversaw one of the most successful programs of the past 25 years has retired/been forced to resign at the very same time Notre Dame fired a coach who only had a winning record for 2 of his 5 years. Which one is the bigger national story?

+1 Darrell
Everyone wants a convincing argument when its staring them right in the face.
