Quickest QB Hook in NFL History?
Uncategorized September 11th. 2007, 1:46pm
He played a half. He stunk. And now, he’s gone. Charlie Frye, who started the Browns opener and was terrible for a half, has been traded to Seattle. Jay Glazer over at Fox makes it seem like Brady Quinn is a lock to start this week. What, you think they’ll go with Derek Anderson? Ha! We will now begin searching for the best Cleveland Browns bar in NYC. Because that’s where we’ll be Sunday (assuming they have wireless). We may even purchase a Kellen Winslow jersey this week. Giddy up!

Giddy up?
2nd Lock of the Week: Cleveland still loses to Cincy this week.
TBL, please refer to the post yesterday regarding this topic. This move doesn’t do anything for Cleveland. They are in the same position as they were last year. Bottom of the division.

The rumor in c-town now is dorsey will actually start this week with BQ off the bench or starts 1st game against the raiders.
i couldn’t tell you how happy i am…i heard the news and jumped out of my office
go browns!
September 11th, 2007 at 1:52 pm
Yes. Cleveland will lose. But Brady Quinn will make it exciting!!
Ken Dorsey? They might as well start Bill Maas …
September 11th, 2007 at 1:52 pm
Also, this is also the Frye’s greatest day. Finally he gets himself out of Cleveland.
He’s not a bad QB. He’s a solid backup for Seattle.
September 11th, 2007 at 1:54 pm
How does Quinn make it exciting? They still have a horrible team. The QB wasn’t the problem.
September 11th, 2007 at 1:55 pm
THANK GOD THANK GOD THANK GOD THANK GOD THANK GOD THANK GOD THANK GOD THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
no more charlie frye!!!! it was only a matter of time anyways until the coaching staff realized, “hey, we only have one guy on the roster who can make an NFL throw and not make our team look half-retarded.” best week to do it was this week seeing as the bengals D is almost as bad as the browns’ and theyre on the road. plus after last week, the annual browns-bottom-out came really early. plus they traded frye to the absolute farthest possible geographic location with an NFL city AND GOT SOMETHING IN RETURN!!!
if quinn wins, cleveland will explode. yes, thats how desperate this city is. we’d light couches on fire if the tribe won 2 of 3 from the mariners.

Oh no. I hoped I would never see “Son of Tim Couch; the Return” in my lifetime, but it looks like the Browns like sequels. Brady will be thrown to the wolves because the other two sports teams in town are this close to taking over the spot of the Browns in the heart of the locals. With the Indians taking a young team to the play-offs and the Cavs in the Finals, the Browns may actually lose their #1 spot in town (if they haven’t already). Still, though, does the front office have no foresight? They couldn’t get one of the veteran QB’s on the market this offseason? Not happy here.
September 11th, 2007 at 1:58 pm
I find it amusing that Cleveland fans think it was the QB. Frye failed, Anderson failed…Put Brady in there and the Browns will still stink,
Frye is a good QB.
September 11th, 2007 at 1:58 pm
wait wait wait…charlie frye not a bad qb?
you did watch the game on sunday right? have you seen a browns game in the last 2 years? open recievers were underthrown and missed completely. he hung onto the ball (despite what the FanHaus’ Steelers felatiator JJ Cooper says) FAR too long and scrambled when he doesnt have the ability to create anything. TERRIBLE qb.
September 11th, 2007 at 1:59 pm
What will it take to get people to STFU about Brady Quinn? What is supposed to motivate me to care about this?
September 11th, 2007 at 2:03 pm
all you people are insane saying frye was not a bad qb…he is the very definition of bad qb…makes stupid decisions, holds onto the ball wayyyy too long and had a weak arm. he was never the long term answer here…ever.
this season after they drafted BQ frye and anderson were just stopgaps until brady was ready. after sunday last year and the preseason it was time to let him go.
and the browns are not a terrible team…brady will make this team look much better with his decision making.
go browns!
September 11th, 2007 at 2:03 pm
Charlie Frye had to go. You don’t hook someone after a quarter and a half and then go back to him when Derek Anderson struggles.
The fans want Brady Quinn and they’ll willingly accept him stinking up the joint. (All rookie QBs struggle…unless you’ve a SuperBowl ready squad). He’ll take his lumps and learn and maybe go the Troy Aikman/Peyton Manning route…and not the way of so many other rookie QBs.
September 11th, 2007 at 2:05 pm
also the people who say this is tim coach v2.0 are just as clueless…tim was thrown onto a expansion team with no line, no rb and basically no talent.
this years browns have a much improved line, decent recievers a great TE and a good rb…defense has one of the best young lbs in the NFL in kameron wimbley…and good corners in booden and wright.
go browns!

*couch
September 11th, 2007 at 2:07 pm
lets not let the thread become munilot.com…
even with brady the browns will still lose. but the pieces are there to come together. hes the only capable NFL qb on the roster. he’ll learn the game faster. but win right away? doubtful.
September 11th, 2007 at 2:10 pm
TBL I am starting to wonder about your fascination with Quinn, it is rivaling your facisnation with Kim Kardashian. I am a Notre Dame fan and ever I don’t give a crap about Quinn playing.
And which Charlie Frye is it that people saw to make them think he is a good QB? That’s like saying Ryan Leaf was a good QB, it was everyone else around him that sucked.
September 11th, 2007 at 2:11 pm
You need your air-conditioning fixed … Charlie Frye is your guy.
You need to drum up interest in a team and sell out a stadium and MAYBE give your team a chance to win … Brady Quinn is your guy.
Frye: 14 TDs, 23 Ints in his career.
Who can find his won-loss record?
September 11th, 2007 at 2:13 pm
Dear Phil Savage,
Thank you for being incompetent. I might even send you a taste of the action after I make my mortgage by taking Cincy to cover this weekend.
Cleveland rocks,
Thomas
September 11th, 2007 at 2:14 pm
all you need to know about his won loss record is that the browns had some pretty high draft picks the last two years.
September 11th, 2007 at 2:16 pm
Go to Blondies on the UES. Was there on Sunday, never been around so many annoying Browns fans my whole life.
September 11th, 2007 at 2:17 pm
“the browns had some pretty high draft picks the last two years.”
And now, thanks to Brady Quinn, so will the Cowboys.
Only one question remains: Will ESPN interrupt regularly-scheduled programming to air the Brady Quinn press conference live?
Actually, I just thought of another. The ESPN “Brady Quinn” coundwown clock on the Bottom Line will be starting any day now.
September 11th, 2007 at 2:18 pm
Dear Phil Savage,
Thanks for McFadden.
Love,
Jerry Jones
September 11th, 2007 at 2:33 pm
LOL @ McFadden.
UES? Shit. We rarely venture north of 14th after hours and on weekends.
Quinn is either going to be a smashing success or an incredible failure. Something tells me the guy will make a good pro. Just a hunch.
September 11th, 2007 at 2:43 pm
TBL, I heard the Blue Oyster is a big Browns bar in NYC.
September 11th, 2007 at 2:44 pm
you wanna know why browns fans flock whenever somethign is said about their team? BECAUSE IT NEVER HAPPENS. you think we give a sh!t about the giants or pats or cowboys? HELL NO. its always, “cleveland sucks, cleveland sucks.” we do suck, but we also see a light at the end of the tunnel.
September 11th, 2007 at 2:45 pm
Bigger question here is when does Crennel get blamed for this crap? Terrible job handling the QB situation from day 1 of camp. He fostered division in the locker room and never gave support to ANY of the QB’s. Whoever gets the start this week will do a little better against the Bengals than Frye did last week against the Steelers. More at halftime adjustments.
September 11th, 2007 at 2:46 pm
Good to know that Charlie Frye was the only thing that kept the Browns from running roughshod all over the Steelers last week. You could go dig up Otto Graham and the Browns would still get throttled.
Unless BQ is going to start at RB, CB or OL, this won’t make a bit of difference for the Browns. But I guess Brownie fans need all the hope they can get.
September 11th, 2007 at 2:49 pm
spencer, who do you think will be the coach when that light gets brighter? (I really am interested in who you think could/will win in Cleveland)
September 11th, 2007 at 2:58 pm
I hope Browns fans dont expect Quinn to go in and save them..Cincy at home, at oakland, baltimore at home, at NE..good luck
September 11th, 2007 at 3:00 pm
it wont be romeo.
September 11th, 2007 at 3:03 pm
Browns aren’t bad? Like I said, Brady couldn’t get 10 wins from this team. Chicago, SF, and Arizona are perfect examples of teams with decent QBs that can carry a decent team. Quinn will not get any more wins out of this team that Frye couldn’t. A change in QB is not the answer. Frye is not a starter, but he’s a decent back-up.
And yes, the Browns are that bad. I would say that they contend with Atlanta for worse team this year. A different QB is not the answer. Especially one who hasn’t proven anything in the NFL. There’s a reason he got drafted where he did people.
September 11th, 2007 at 3:29 pm
The Browns make the Lions look good.
Let the BQ worship begin. Hey, at least when you finish 3-13, your biceps will still attract the poon.
September 11th, 2007 at 3:32 pm
browns are not as bad as a team as people think. bad qb play magnifies mistakes with the team. we have a better line and a smart qb like brady will not hold onto the ball too long and get sacked or make bad desicisons leading to turnovers (DA and Frye)…
i dont think we will be great this year but brady will be the best thing to happen to the browns in a long long time.
September 11th, 2007 at 3:34 pm
talent doesnt win football games alone. romeo is as equally to blame as any of the qb’s. he puts the browns in terrible positions and expects them to come through. he’s a terrible motivator and terrible manager of ego/time/substitutions.
this year is a wash, that was evident after the first quarter. the browns are like heroin, you just cant kick the habit.
September 11th, 2007 at 3:36 pm
Nothing so embarrassing as an optimistic Browns fan.
I guess the devastating hits by the Stillers’ puny little WRs on the ramshackle Browns defense was missed.
You can’t draft that attitude. The Browns look defeated, the Oline is a gathering of washed up bums, Jamal Tippytoes can’t run with authority, the D is whipped already, Joe Thomas is another Big Ten pussbag, Romeo has his head lodged way up his ass…
It’s a mess. But, hey, Kellen Winslow…
The Stillers have the division wrapped up, I think.
September 11th, 2007 at 3:36 pm
romeo is a terrible HC…D coordinator i could see but he cant gameplan..does nothing for halftime adjustments and has never won a replay challenge…
who knows who the new coach would be but i would prefer someone with head coaching experience in the NFL
September 11th, 2007 at 3:40 pm
Hollywood Wags you sound like Miami Hurricanes fan still pissed off you lost to The Ohio State University. Get over the hate man.
September 11th, 2007 at 3:49 pm
hollywood wags…you lose all credibility when you say a division is wrapped up after WEEK ONE.
youd look defeated too if you gave up 14 points in the first 5 minutes of the game.
its a long season, the browns look crappy, but its still the first week. frye sucked and had to go, crennel sucks and will go. no need for everyone to spew hate about the browns.
September 11th, 2007 at 3:54 pm
Why would I be pissed? The Browns have never done anything.
They gave us The Emperor and Lord Cowher after all.
September 11th, 2007 at 3:55 pm
i love it how the line is a collection of washed up stiffs..steinbach hello?! and thomas is a pussbag after 1 game.
lol
go browns!
September 11th, 2007 at 4:27 pm
Finding a Browns bar in NYC is as likely as finding Kyle Boller as the centerpiece of someone’s fantasy football team.
September 11th, 2007 at 4:49 pm
“no need for everyone to spew hate about the browns.”
No, there is a need.
It’s not hate, just objective analysis.
The Browns are truly awful. Look how they stood against the Steelers.
Rode hard and put away wet.
September 11th, 2007 at 4:52 pm
42 posts on this? We are talking about the Browns, right?
September 11th, 2007 at 4:52 pm
I’ll be searching for a Detroit Shock bar in Albany, NY as long as it has dial-up…
Wait, what?
September 11th, 2007 at 4:53 pm
I think its pretty safe to say that no one has any idea how good or bad Quinn will be, but they know how bad Frye and Anderson are, so the devil you don’t know is better than the devil you do know.
My guess is he looks like shit, because all rookie qb’s look like shit (except for Big Ben).
Go Steelers.
September 11th, 2007 at 4:53 pm
Also, SVPS, you read about my fantasy team?
September 11th, 2007 at 4:54 pm
Oh yeah, TBL…
The quickest hook in history was probably Jim Miller getting yanked for Mike Tomczak after a few series in which he showed his lack of mobility.
September 12th, 2007 at 1:08 am
How is that quicker than Frye getting hooked after one quarter, and traded two days later?
