HGH in Boston. But Who?
Uncategorized September 21st. 2007, 1:58pm
Fun guessing game of the day: in a New York Daily News report Thursday about HGH, prosecutors claimed to know the names of two athletes who received HGH. All they’ve done is say that one is a “well-known athlete in Massachusetts†and the other is an “entertainer-athlete who is 6-foot-5, 276 pounds.
It seems clear to us that the latter is a wrestler. Since we don’t follow fake sports, we’ll let you decipher that one. But it shouldn’t take long for someone to find a wrestler that size who has lived in the state.
The other one is the real mystery. ‘Well-known’ probably isn’t enough to formulate an educated guess, but we should remember this – most of the athletes who have been busted getting HGH shipped to them have done so to recover from injuries. So we’re looking for somebody who has been hurt (it’s a bummer that no timetable was given). ‘Well-known’ probably means one of two teams – the Patriots or the Red Sox. We’re going to rule out the Celtics, but only because the NBA seems to have had little or no connection with HGH. We’ll let you folks have at it in the comments.

Rodney Harrison…hasn’t this been reported?

The first person I thought of who qualifies as “entertainer-athlete” was The Rock. As for the well known athlete in Massachusetts, that could be anyone! My top guesses would be Big Papi, Manny, Jason Veritek (who’s overall size has shrunk noticebly in the last year or two), or gasp Tom Brady. Gabe Kapler would be a gimme for HGH if he was still in the states, but I don’t consider him well known. This is interesting.

John Cena, he is from Massachusetts and the size sounds about right

the wrestler is probably john cena
big papi?

There’s 2 people involved
1) athelete from Mass
2) entertainer/athlete – didn’t say he was from Mass.
Wrestler is probably Hulk Hogan as he’s 6′5, 275. Rock was never 276 and Cena is 6′3 at the tallest. Hogan makes the only sense.
Athelete was probably Nomar.

Cena isn’t 6′5″. HHH is about that size, although he’s noticably slimmed down lately.

It won’t be anyone has well known as Big Papi or Manny or Schilling – if it was, it would have leaked by now. Normally we’ll be talking minor, but since it is “well-known”, it means it’s a mid-level player (like Troy Glaus).
My guess: someone who is a local fan favorite, but not so much a big league star – Tim Wakefield (highly unlikely), Dave Roberts (local legend), Jon Lester (to help with the cancer recovery?), or an oft-injured outfielder – JD Drew or formerly Trot Nixon.
Or obviously Rodney Harrison, if we are talking football.

May have been HHH, but he’s been off for awhile. It was evident by his belly getting fat. Plus, HHH isn’t really an entertainer/athlete. I think it’s Hogan. Neither would surprise me though,

Hulk Hogan, legally known as Terry Bollea is and has been for at least the last 20 years, a Tampa resident…..it ain’t the Hulkster……though I am sure in his day he ingested as many muscle pills as anyone.

They’ve greatly exaggerated Bill Simmons size.

“Athelete was probably Nomar.”
this is why people don’t respect the internet

Highly doubt it’s Hulk, and The Rock isn’t from Mass.
I think whoever said HHH may be onto something.
As for the ball player, when i think of injuries in recent years, i know Josh Beckett has had arm problems. No Tommy John, though. Rodney Harrison has been reported, but there’s if it were him, wouldn’t they just name the guy? Leads me to believe it’s not him.
Nomar is interesting. A ton of injuries.

John Cena is 6-1 so I doubt its him. The Rock is now an actor and probably weighs 225 now. Plus he has zero ties to Boston. So I dont know…or care…but the athlete…please god let it be Brady

Is he well-known in Massachusetts, or well known playing in Massachusetts?
I vote Buckner.

Could the entertainer-athlete be Killer Kowalski? He’s old (80 years old) but runs a wrestling school in Massachusetts that has trained a lot of wrestlers. He’s 6′ 7″, 275.

Hulkster?? Say it ain’t so.
You do have to wonder about a 50+ year old guy with guns as defined and as much size as the Hulkster sports. I don’t think its from eating pudding before and after workouts.
September 21st, 2007 at 3:22 pm
Yeah, I think if it was someone earth-shattering like Ortiz or Ramirez the story would have already leaked.
September 21st, 2007 at 3:25 pm
Again, the entertainer/athlete IS NOT from Mass. It said there were 2 people. 1) athelte FROM Mass & 2) entertainer/athlete with NO location given. So this “wrestler” doesn’t necessarily have to be from Mass.
Plus, HHH is from Conneticut, not Mass either.

It’s Bill Maas.
It was a typo.
And the other guy is Gabe Kaplan.
September 21st, 2007 at 3:47 pm
Wasn’t it Ortiz who, a couple of years ago, came out in defense of the Latino players and their inability to understand exactly what is and what isn’t a PED? It’s a copout, yes, but maybe he was setting up a Sammy Sosa-like “No comprende” defense just in case?
September 21st, 2007 at 3:49 pm
Tom. Brady.
September 21st, 2007 at 4:18 pm
Say it ain’t so Wags, Mr. Kotter (Gabe Kaplan) is on the juice?

…This just in we’ll have breaking news….or an internet rumor….or something later…or maybe tomorrow…and maybe it will be about a team or player in Texas….or New York….but definitely today….unless its tomorrow….stay tuned….
nice journalism there tbl.
