Yardwork: The Rockies? Really?

New York 7, Florida 6: Billy Wagner blew another save in the ninth, but the Mets were victorious in the 11th on a David Wright single. Their NL East lead is 2.5 over the Phillies, who lost to the Nationals.
Colorado 7, San Diego 3: Despite getting swept by the Rockies – at home, no less – and letting Colorado creep into the playoff hunt, the Padres still lead Philly by half a game in the wild card chase. We really want to try and get to Milton Bradley’s meltdown today, but it may have to wait till Tuesday.
Boston 4, Tampa Bay 5: So is Tim Wakefield close to losing his postseason rotation spot? That’s four losses in a row.
Toronto 5, New York 7: Moose wins his third straight start since getting booted from the rotation. The Yanks can claw within a game of Boston with a win Monday. The Red Sox are idle.
Cleveland 6, Oakland 2: The Indians win the AL Central for the first time in six years when Grady Sizemore goes 4-for-4. The Tribe are half a game ahead of Anaheim for the best record in the AL.

While the Cards/Astros game had no meaning, it’s still nice to see Brad Lidge in post-season form.

What’s worse, the NFC or the National League?

I don’t know that Wakefield would have been in the postseason rotation anyway. You’ve got Schilling, Beckett, and Dice-K, presumably, which would leave Wakefield, Lester and Bucholz for long relief or a spot start. If the bullpen can get its act together, I think the Red Sox should reach the Series.

What’s worse, KFC or the Justice League?

I’ll give you Schilling and Beckett, but Wakefield and Dice-K are both going into the postseason in slumps.
Wakefield has been hit hard in his last four starters and Dice K has won once since Aug. 10.
The favorite seems to be changing by the day, but … why not the Indians?

now don’t get me wrong, steve phillips is an idiot. but remember back in early august, when he picked the rockies to win the NL wild card? everyone laughed and laughed and laughed. probably 1. because phillips is always wrong, like i’ve said, and 2. most fans on the east coast weren’t aware colorado had a baseball team. well, looks like steve is close to being accidentally right about this one. get used to it, too. they’re young and only getting better.

That is some in-depth analysis today in Yarkwork. Couldn’t get that recap anywhere else … well besides the hundreds of Web sites that post MLB scores.
