A Brett Favre Unauthorized Bio?
Uncategorized September 28th. 2007, 11:14am
Interesting little rumor that floated our way last night: “Two writers are currently pitching unauthorized Brett Favre biographies that would detail Favre’s infidelity, which includes a tryst with a Packers employee. Both pitches would also go into great detail about Favre’s alcohol and drug (painkiller) use that was well-known during the Super Bowl days, but that he has been doing on the down low ever since.€
If this book ever sees the light of day, we’ll be reading. Any NFL writers want to chime in?

Why? Is there really a big story in a boozin, womanizin’ gunslingin’ sonbitch from Kiln, MS?

Peter King and John Madden would kill themselves and I’d cry myself to sleep for a month if true

anyone can write an unauthorized bio, so how much stock can you put into the claims unless someone can publicly corrborate(sp?) the story.

if palmeiro doesn’t test positive for PEDs and Giambi’s testimony doesn’t leak, does Canseco’s book really matter? no, because without any obvious proof that the public can see, its all just accusations, and that is how people were looking at his book until that info got out.

if anything it makes favre more of an ‘american hero.’ there is nothing this country loves more than a figure overcoming faubles to achieve (some kind of) greatness. hes already the NFL version of clint eastwood, now he’d be a martyr.
and its not like people dont know this stuff already, its part of the gunslinger mystique that makes people become infatuated with the dude.

Scott Van Pelt kills me

Apparently they’re hard up for cash and publicity. Maybe if they were better at their respective jobs, they wouldn’t need this type of stuff to propell their career. Sad, quite sad. We all do shady things once in awhile, let it go and let the guy be.

Also feel that there is a huge double standard in the NFL, Favre was addicted to painkillers in the mid 90’s, admitted to struggling with alcohol as well, and yet is portrayed as the rugged white American hero. Javon Walker, who as far as I know had never had any character issues, asks for a new contract and its just another n***** that wants more money.

When they make a movie out of the book, who is going to play Bruce Pearl? I say either Jeff Garlin or Big Pussy.
September 28th, 2007 at 11:36 am
Anthony Anderson can play Reggie White

I don’t get it- how does this make me like Favre more?
@Hakeem- the american public may be fickle, and even racist… but they can relate to an unfaithful alcoholic more than they can to a guy that wants more than the millions he already makes for catching a football. I’m not saying its right, but I understand as I agree with the people on this one.
September 28th, 2007 at 11:41 am
lets see. favre comes out and is apologetic in interviews and comes across as a tragic figure wrapped in addictions, somethign many americans can relate too, especially mid-west white americans.
javon walker asks for more money when he was already making more money than most of these people would in a lifetime.
agree with the double standard however i try to justify it, it isnt right at all tho.
September 28th, 2007 at 11:44 am
Oh- and if they make a movie, can Mike Holmgren be played by Craig Stadler?
September 28th, 2007 at 11:56 am
I agree with the fact that he was already making alot of money. But when Favre came out and spoke publicly on the subject, I lost all respect for him. It killed Walker’s chances of getting a better deal that he deserved after his performance the season before and then Walker subsequently blew out his knee.

Somewhere, buried in a plate of nachos and chicken wings, John Madden softly weeps.
September 28th, 2007 at 12:08 pm
i totally agree. im not a huge favre fan and when he spoke on the teams behalf saying walker should get into camp, that was a pretty classless move. favre appears (to me at least) to be the roger clemens of football (without the mercenary tactics) and his whole offseason routine is getting really old.
but the addictions and womanizing is not particulary groundbreaking. if he didn’t do it, itd be surprising.

I’m not a big Favre fan, but I do respect the man for what he has accomplished on the football field. Big Whoop! There is another UNAUTHORIZED tell all book about a guy that had a some problems over 10 years ago. The two issuses that are allegedly going to be tackled (pun intended) in this book are personal problems that Favre have seemed to overcome. Sorry folks, this is just a frivolous ploy to make serious money…The sad part is? It’s going to work…

Spencer – to Cheeseland, it would definitely be news. THey protect him up there like the President. Heck, when was the last time you read something NOT fawning about Favre?
September 28th, 2007 at 1:05 pm
oh totally, cheeseheads love favre like coloradans(?) love elway. im just sayin that the womanizing and painkiller/alcohol abuse has been documented before but then again, my response is probably a ton different than someone from GB.
speaking of embattled former iconic QB’s (dont mean to threadjack) but has any non-clevelander seen bernie kosar lately? the dude is falling apart at the seams. sad stuff.
September 28th, 2007 at 1:17 pm
Should we dig up dirt on Marino and Elway’s personal lives while we are at it?
TBL, I disagree about coverage of Favre. Football pundits and the sports blogosphere have been repeatedly bashing Favre over the past 2 seasons.
Dude popped pills and had a shit tun of sex, while he was one of the best players in the NFL? This is OLD news and a cheap attempt at pub by 2 hacks. Yes, I am a Packer fan. GBAY is 3-0, playing rival Viqueens, and Favre is about to set TD record.

Is it just me, or is that Landry from friday Night Lights in that pic?
September 28th, 2007 at 2:30 pm
“Heck, when was the last time you read something NOT fawning about Favre?”
Have you even been following the NFL the last 2 years???
September 28th, 2007 at 2:57 pm
If the inet was big like this towards the end of Elway’s playing days, it would be exactly the same. Elway has plenty of dirt that everyone knows about yet is considered old since it was exposed 10 years ago.
September 28th, 2007 at 4:39 pm
TBL, don’t listen to the haters (unless you’re writing about TV or movies). This is a great story.
September 28th, 2007 at 4:51 pm
TBL you could not be more wrong about this book being a revelation to Packers fans back in the Super Bowl years the antics of Favre and his Three Amigos buddies were pretty well known to most Packers fans. Most of them gave it the old nudge nudge wink wink routine.
Remember this is a fan base that saw Max Mcgee and Paul Horning win championship after championship all the while doing stuff that would make Favre seem like a choir boy. McGee is famous for how well he played in Super Bowl one since he has broke curfew and was as hungover as a sailor after shore leave.
It is not that we were not aware of Favre’s faults it is after 30 years of not winning we did not care what he did off the field he won on the field so we looked the other way. Nudge Nudge Wink Wink and that stuff was a decade ago. You never hear about anything going on like this now days.
you also have to remember it is a much smaller pond up here in GB or Milwaukee and Packers players are HUGE fish in that pond it is hard to do anything and not get noticed.
so no nothing in that book would surprise us and most of us would not even bother to read it.

With the media/public outrage with “performance enhancers” in baseball, why is it that pain killers are not a big deal? After all, they are no more naturally occurring than testosterone or HGH injections, they do you allow to perform athletically when you otherwise wouldn’t be able to, yet someone is gutty when they pop a few painkillers and get back on the field, while someone is a cheat when they’re juicing in order to become stronger or recover faster.

And don’t forget the wife with breast cancer–you know, the one he didn’t bother to marry until their oldest kid was about eight or so. Dumb, dumb Deanna.
September 29th, 2007 at 3:14 pm
hahaha. Favre. cheats at football, cheats at marriage. what else is new? unless these books are gonna say he cheated with Strahan off the field, they’re not turning over any new rocks….
