Put a Cork in It, Theismann
ESPN, Media Gossip/Musings October 15th. 2007, 12:05pm
Joe, we get it. You think Tony Kornheiser put the knife in your back. You’re angry that your football announcing days are done, and that a writer without an athletic bone in his body is still doing the MNF thing. But did you really need to say that MNF has “become a three-hour Tony Kornheiser show. When I was let go, they explained they wanted more of an issue show and less about football. They’ve accomplished that.” Seriously dude, get over it.
Theismann: MNF a “three-hour Tony Kornheiser show” (Sports Media Watch)

I might have a little sympathy for Theees-man (that is how your parents and grandparents pronounced it, right Joe?) if he were that good, that insightful of a game analyst, and I missed his presence on MNF.
But he wasn’t, and I don’t.

douche

Thiesmann could use a warm glass of STHU, but I must admit that Kornheiser is pretty annoying. He brought the world stat boy and for that he should be punished. I hate ESPN.

Right message.
Wrong messenger.

As much as I dislike MNF these days (Kornheiser’s great on PTI but out of his element here) it’s still better than last season which while funny when TK would call Theismann on his contradictions was often uncomfortable
October 15th, 2007 at 12:39 pm
Wait?!? People are still interviewing Joe Theismann?
October 15th, 2007 at 12:44 pm
i really believe theisman would be fantastic at, maybe, nfl radio on sirius or having his own radio show. i mean, the guy has diarrhea of the mouth. but he does know his football, x’s and o’s.
but as an analyst, he was/is brutal. never shut up. constantly contridicted himself during the game. everybody was either a hall of famer or a scrub arena league player that had no business on the field.
that’s great for talk radio; rotten for game analysis.
two words joe:
nfl network.

Thank jeebus the news cycle wasn’t around when Theismann and Cathy Lee Crosby broke up. I’d hate to hear what Joe had to say about that bitch.
Be thankful you’re doing infomercials now Sunshine. After all, you could be doing college football.

Right message, wrong messenger is perfect. Joey T. was a bad listen. Remember that Mark Shapiro (boy genius????) signed Joey to a 4-year deal as Mark (now 3 Flags, check the stock price) Shapiro was walking out the door.
Tony K. is beyond annoying but it’s a typical writers-protecting-writers case. Nobody circles the wagons like hack sportswriters. When you’re one of them, you’re immune, especially at the WWL.

Screw Theismann. However, I’d rather hear TK’s radio show than see him on MNF or PTI.
October 15th, 2007 at 1:07 pm
Wow… he’s still talking about this? That’s just sad. Joe… Please stop. It’s a freaking job on a TV show. Not even a very good one.
Also… Lawrence Taylor.

Joe sucked and still sucks. I am especially appreciating Jaws after a big play…..interception or TD or something….they come back from commercial and dude has it all diagrammed just like he did with Merril Hoge and Suzy and tells you why the play happened, who did good, who got beat and why…..he is doing something other TV guys don’t do…ala John Madden who usually just circles a hot dog cart or the belly of some fat lineman…Jaws is hands down the best with a telestrator
October 15th, 2007 at 1:23 pm
Joe Theismann is football’s equivalent of Joe Morgan… all he did was talk about himself and when he played. MNF is certainly not a three-hour Tony Kornheiser Show. Good riddens JT!

How many lame jokes is TK good for tonight? Over/under of 5? His opening remarks provide little but displaying his possession of a large vocabulary. I thought they canned Dennis Miller for that.
Theisman should worry about keeping his restaurant afloat. I heard the food sucks like Joe Gibbs’ clock management skills.
October 15th, 2007 at 1:26 pm
All the announcing sucks for MNF
Chris Berman shoudl take over regins on Monday night football
Chris Berman and Tom Jackson would be a perfect fit
and Kenny Mayne for the humor, great fit
October 15th, 2007 at 1:29 pm
Lawrence Taylor is appalled at the lack of toughness from Theismann.
October 15th, 2007 at 1:37 pm
He is a douche . . . but he’s right, isn’t he?
October 15th, 2007 at 1:41 pm
Actually, Baby Boomer Esiason cried ten times as much as Joey T. when they canned his ass from MNF. Remember that crap from Norman? “The ABC honchos don”t know how important I am, don’t they know I’m a Super Bowl quarterback, Michaels won’t help me, Hey, I’m Boomer The Great, if I make any mistakes it’s always someone else’s fault…..Waaaahhhh, waaaaahhhh, waaaahhhh, I wan’t my bottle.” Try listening to his dopey analysis on MNF radio. Bleccchhhhh!

sunshine really needs to realize, he wasn’t replaced my TK, he was replaced by Jaws which is a GIGANTIC step up for MNF. still won’t watch more than a half of the game, but the broadcast is so much better without sunshine there.
October 15th, 2007 at 2:13 pm
Best way to tolerate MNF is by pushing the MUTE button or easier yet, not watching it. ESPN has destroyed MNF, IMO.
October 15th, 2007 at 2:26 pm
I wasn’t about for the legends of the past, so I can’t say if MNF is a shell of it’s old self as many claim it is.
I like Mike Tirico. He does a swell job. Jaws is super football smart; we all know that. But does his studio analysis transfer to a three-hour live football game? Eh.
I’ve always liked TK. But does his sense of humor and delivery transfer to TV? He’s a great writer and good on the radio, but TV is a completely different animal.
Oh yeah, Theismann sucked and still sucks. Quit whining or I’ll send LT to get you.

He’s totally right, Korny just barges in on everything.
Jaworski doesn’t have the balls to get that douchebag to shut up and stop giggling and making 6th grade dumbassed jokes.
I can understand why people in the 70’s wanted to throw a brick through their TV when Cosell came on.
Korny is leagues worse than Howard.
October 15th, 2007 at 4:12 pm
I agreed with what jgp3553 said, being an avid fan of TK’s columns(when he still wrote one) and a huge fan of PTI I was willing to cut him some slack. And with the addition of Jaws I though it would make the booth better, and it did, but TK is now seemingly more annoying than ever and I know he is suppose to be the every-man but I’m already him, I dont need someone on tv telling me what I’m already thinking…..Lose TK and Tirico, let a real play-by-play guy run the MNF booth…Brent Musberger, with him and Jaws that could be a solid team.

I was at a buddy’s place this past Sunday hanging out waiting to go see Van Halen (13th row, fucking killer show)…
I noticed something that bugged the shit out of me.
CBS: lots of constant laughter, but no one can really speak when busting up at something Sharpe tried to mumble out
FOX: Bradshaw giggling, everything is hilarious to Manatee
ESPN: laughing at everything, nothing is funny, but yet it is
ESPNMNF: tittering, giggling, yuks galore, more comedy than football, don’t forget to tip your waitresses
So what’s the deal with all the goddamn laughing…
SHUT THE FUCK UP
