Ballin’: Duncan Goes Down (But X-Rays Were Negative)
Uncategorized December 3rd. 2007, 9:06am
Cool tattoo, huh?
Portland 79, San Antonio 100: Even though Tim Duncan went down with knee injury in the second quarter, the Spurs had no trouble defeating the Blazers. Nobody’s sure how serious the injury is yet, but x-rays were negative and he’s getting an MRI Monday. Still, there is geniune panic at the Alamo.
Orlando 104, Los Angeles Lakers 97: Should we believe yet? The Magic are now 15-4 following their first road triumph over the Lakers since the ‘Nam. Everytime we ask anyone how/why we should believe in the Magic, we get a lot of, ‘uh, well … ‘ and nobody seems to be able to pinpoint the reason. ‘Dwight Howard is a beast’ doesn’t count. Will ‘karma for Stan Van Gundy’ suffice? Kobe had 28 points, but just nine after the first quarter. Andrew Bynum blocked seven shots and Odom went for 19-17.
Cleveland 70, Boston 80: LeBron didn’t play, so why are we even writing about this? Boston’s 14-2.
Indiana 101, Los Angeles Clippers 95: No Jermaine O’Neal and the Pacers won! Imagine that. Bird’s boys are 9-9 after Jamaal Tinlsey scored 29. But how about the Caveman’s 22 and 22? Or Dan Dickau’s eight assists. Man, Dickau was nice a nice player at Gonzaga.
New Jersey 95, Detroit 118: Didn’t somebody predict the Nets would reach the NBA Finals? Surely it was a talking head. Wish we could remember which one. Anyway, the Nets need OT at home Saturday to scrape by the 76ers … and then aren’t even competitive in Detroit. Sure, there are some injuries, but Vince is close to 100%, Kidd is healthy and Jefferson is scoring 25 a night. What’s wrong?

Don’t know who you’re thinking of, but Charles Barkley picked the Nets to go to the Finals on Bill Simmons’ podcast

Orlando is just as for real as any other team in the East. And I think “Dwight Howard is a beast” is as good a reason as any.

I understand the Cavs wanting to play it safe with LeBron and his pinkie (or whatever finger he sprained), but how many lumps are they going to take while they wait for him to get better? Tape it up and tough it out, man.

The NBA is more about how you finish, not how you start. The Magic are an impressive 15-4 but on this date last year they were an almost as impressive 13-4. Will they be able to sustain such a hot start this season with Lewis and one more year of playing in Dwight Howard? Maybe…but unlikely. Methinks this team is closer to a .500 team and a 7-8 seed than a 55 game and divisional winner.

well, then again…that Southeast is trash. Maybe they are a .500 team AND a divisional winner.

Orlando will have some bumps in the road — it’s a long season. It’s usually about who you’ve got in the low post (Cavs and LeBron notwithstanding) in the NBA. So no matter if he’s paid too much, Rashard Lewis really helps Howard and even has freed up Turkoglu to get a lot of open looks. I don’t know if the Magic match up well with teh Pistons right now. That was an ugly game for them a while back. We’ll see after they play them a few more times.
